Hi, I’ve not tried Keto before so any advice welcome.

Anyone else just starting out, we could support each other.

@Winnerella

Lol at your screen name. And the fact that lardass was taken and you had to settle for *@lardass88*
I KNOW! Wish I was born in 88 😂 there's obviously more than just me on here.
lardass88 · 25/06/2020 18:23

@Winnerella

Good start with the cambridge diet though. Is that quite high in carbs!? Your body wont know what hit it!
Yeah it was ok .. but that because I was barely eating anything :/
AdriannaP · 25/06/2020 19:35

I also like the Easy Keto Uk facebook group. Some good tips there. And get a waffle maker 😅
Don’t start baking with sweeteners etc, I would recommend sugar detox for the first weeks. Going back to that now Shock

Winnerella · 25/06/2020 20:05

Oh i must join that one. I am in an American one and the products that are available there are so different.

Yes I'm in that group (as a lurker!).

I'm reluctant regarding sweeteners. I do struggle with sugar - I have fibromyalgia & CFS and find it very easy to resort to sugar/carbs when my fatigue is bad. I don't want to end up using sweeteners on the same way.

Winnerella · 25/06/2020 22:46

yes, i'm reluctant too, all the baking with sweeteners that they do on the american keto site, and it is missing the point a bit, I want to learn to not want the sweet stuff, so it is important not to go looking for these sweet fake puddings especially at the beginning. For a birthday cake, lovely idea. I saw a keto carrot cake on youtube. maybe one day i'll make it but not until i'm in this habit more firmly.

AdriannaP · 26/06/2020 06:53

Agree don’t start making these puddings, chocolates etc. Most of them are only ok if you eat them in tiny quantities and the beginning it’s more important to cut the sweet stuff out and eat well, instead of focusing how to still eat cake/bake muffins etc.

wildthingsinthenight · 26/06/2020 08:41

I have to have a keto type dessert in the house in case I crave sweet things. Then I have that instead of a bar of chocolate or a biscuit. It's by no means every day. This way it's a more long term and sustainable way of eating for me. The dessert ideas may help others too. We were all different and I have great losses. It's the way I do it and it may help others. It helps me on certain days when I'd like a sweet treat

wildthingsinthenight · 26/06/2020 09:19

Food plans here today are boiled egg and bacon salad for lunch with avocado and chilli on a bed of broccolli and cauliflower topped with cheese for dinner.
What has everyone else got planned?

JustMoved123 · 26/06/2020 10:24

I don’t know what to make for dinner, I have chicken thighs in, any ideas?!

I’m not really missing sweet things yet but I miss the crunch of a crisp or cracker!

We’re going to a drinks party this evening and I’ve made little Thai meatballs, just hoping the taste ok, if not I’ve got cold meats, cheese and olives just in case 😂

I agree - I bought the waffle maker and now eat lots of chaffles.

wildthingsinthenight · 26/06/2020 12:46

I think you can make crackers from grated cheese JustMoved123
Individual mounds on a greased baking tray and baked in the oven til the edges darken. When cooled they harden. Nice for a change!

Winnerella · 26/06/2020 14:05

What's a chaffle?

pontiouspilates · 26/06/2020 16:11

Someone recommended peanut butter mixed with cream cheese spread along a celery stick for a good snack with 'crunch'

daisychicken · 26/06/2020 16:42

I quite like peanut butter on celery as a snack, it also goes well on cucumber.

Tea tonight... 🤔 I was going to do a traybake with sausages but don't feel up to doing much so I'll have sausages and celeriac wedges (hm potato wedges for rest of family), I might even do a fried egg 😁

wildthingsinthenight · 26/06/2020 17:09

That sounds good daisychicken
I'm grilling some halloumi to have with our chilli and veg

HeavenlyEyes · 26/06/2020 18:17

chaffles are waffles made from beaten egg with grated cheese.

AdriannaP · 26/06/2020 18:40

Lots of chaffles recipes online. You can use mozzarella, cream cheese, peanut butter etc

daisychicken · 26/06/2020 18:40

chaffles are waffles made from beaten egg with grated cheese.
Could you please post the recipe? Do you think they could be cooked like pancakes? We've just got rid of our waffle maker and I really haven't cupboard space for one!
AdriannaP · 26/06/2020 18:44

Some ideas here
I usually use
1 egg
1 table spoon cream cheese
2 table spoons almond flour
Half a tea spoon baking powder

Eat it with ham and salad

Thanks Smile

robinsnest1967 · 26/06/2020 18:46

I'm 5'2 and need to lose the weight I've piled on since March! Preferably 1.5 stone, not sure what that is in kilo. What do you all drink?

daisychicken · 26/06/2020 19:03

Water! I have 2-3 cups of tea with a dash of milk and 1-3 cups of black coffee (if dh is home and no coffee if he isn't) but otherwise water and lots of it.

wildthingsinthenight · 26/06/2020 19:06

robinsnest1967 cava! 😂
Is that what you meant?

In the day I drink coffee with cream, tea with almond milk, water with electrolytes and one diet pop a day

KetoWinnie · 26/06/2020 21:07

I did badly today. By old fashioned dieting standards, not too bad, but not keto :-/

wondering if i should make up for it with a fast tomorrow but then, no, I don't want to have to do a fast TWICE a week, I'll stick with a fast once a week on Wednesdays for now.

Just get back on the wagon tomorrow and hopefully weigh in a pound less on Sunday.
