@ultrababy

So what happens when you've lost the weight and just want to maintain it? I've lost the weight I needed to but have started to look at re introducing carbs with some trepidation. Can you do weekdays keto and weekends relax it a bit? Has anyone achieved this successfully?
ultrababy, You can start re-introducing carbs gradually until you find the sweet spot between maintaining and increasing your weight. Most people in a keto lifestyle stick with the low carbs. Relaxing over weekends will kick you out of ketosis and it will take time to get back into it plus you are going to have insulin spikes and carb cravings again. Some people can do it but it is not for everyone.

@ultrababy

I'm just not sure is it ever possible to have a bowl of pasta again? Having doe this for four weeks I'm amazed how I haven't been overweight before. I mean I run lots but this has proved you cannot out train a poor diet.
ultrababy You are so right. One of the people I watch on youtube had a picture of a fat man on a running machine, with the caption below - "You can't outrun a bad diet".

Ugh! I feel sick. Went to see a friend for lunch, thinking we'd go to the shops together to buy food as that's what we usually do. Instead she had bought a load of quiche, pasta salads, etc plus a whipped cream passion fruit swiss roll. I kept quiet and dutifully ate what she'd very kindly provided as I hadn't mentioned I was on keto and she'd spent the money. The pudding has given me major brain fog, a blocked nose and a queasy stomach. On the plus side I weighed myself 2 days ago and I'm down to 9st 3lb. Just 5 more lbs to go to get a BMI of 22!

WinnieLo · 09/08/2020 20:33

@mattberryshair you and me both, i hope you enjoyed it though?

I went to my brother's for lunch, knowing I'd already put back on a couple of pounds. We had pizza, and he had doughnuts with chocolate sauce, strawberries, raspberries and ben and jerry's for dessert. I didn't stuff myself like there would be no food for the rest of the week but I ate ''well''. Back on strict keto for the rest of the week to try and lose 3lbs by next Sunday.

MattBerrysHair · 10/08/2020 14:54

@WinnieLow it was ok but I didn't enjoy it the way I used to enjoy white carbs and sugar. It's lost it's appeal and now I get excited about low carb high fat food as I love how I feel when I stick to it, less hungry, less anxious, more energy etc. Today i feel sluggish and bloated and don't feel like the stodge was worth it.

ultrababy · 10/08/2020 19:46

So tomorrow will be the test. I did have a relaxed weekend but choosing carbs for one meal only on Saturday and Sunday. So we shall see if there is a gain.

SummerNamechangeHappened · 10/08/2020 22:39

Hello can I join you please?

ultrababy · 11/08/2020 06:53

I gained two pounds. 😡 when I think about it. I have always classed carbs as bread, pasta and potatoes but it really isn't. It's all the little things you don't think are carbs then you combine it with a bit of bread as a treat and bang! You're back to weight gain. What I have found easiest is that I only eat in work. I have long days so I can have my evening meal before I leave work. The down side to this is that I eat the same two meals a day all week. Yes I lose the weight but there is a sense of punishment which in turn makes you want to treat yourself on the weekend. If I was better prepared and made meals for the week that are interesting I might not self sabotage on my days off.

ultrababy · 11/08/2020 07:06

I am also not 5'2". Maybe that's the key ingredient we're missing Smile

Hi everyone.
I am thinking of starting Keto after my hols in a couple of weeks.
I have tried before but never stuck to it for more than two weeks!
I have loads of weight to lose.
I have ordered some Lo Dough bases (can be used for many things), has anyone tried these? It's a UK based company.

To be honest, I wouldn't use anything like that. It is advertised as low calorie and contains wheat gluten, which is not keto lifestyle. There are so many recipes out there for keto bread etc which would be better and cheaper. Try the following link just as a starter, there are also good youtube channels. www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/recipes

How are people getting on with the keto diet . I am planning to start next week , but have had many failed attempts. The first few days of coming off my terrible ‘ eat everything diet’ is extreme acid hungry feeling , light headedness, and exhaustion . Does anyone know how to stop these feelings please as my will power is not always enough ?

Winnielo · 12/08/2020 18:49

Hold out as long as you can, but when get that starved for something soft and carby, make a keto mug cake. I dont make a habit of it but once or twice ive put about 75 grams of ground almonds, an egg yolk, a level spoon of cocoa, 50 grams of erythritol sweetener, a heaped spoon of peanut butter and 25 mls of water in a mug and give it 45 seconds.
Mmmmm so carby.

This is not low calorie. It's low carb but v high in calories, so not a regular go to for me, but if you're dying for the feeling of carbs while you adapt, it could work to get you through the craving.

Erythritol sweetener doesnt provoke an insulin response

I had bad keto diarrhoea on day 3. Headache day 4. Had walked to bus stop and had to come back home. Glad i didnt risk it! Sorry, this is charming I know. 😦

MattBerrysHair · 13/08/2020 07:08

@NK3cb3a07cX127fca449b1 if you look at the Diet Doctor website there is a lot of information about how to keep the 'keto flu' symptoms to a minimum. You lose a lot of water and electrolytes when you first start keto so adding salt or electrolytes to your water helps with headaches and feelings of exhaustion. I drink a pint of water with electrolytes first thing in the morning and I slowly drink half a litre with the same throughout the day on top of regular drinks and it's really helped.

ultrababy · 13/08/2020 18:49

Is it wrong to be scared of pasta? Was all set to have pasta as a treat and ended up having the tiniest amount with loads of veg. Is this my life now?

Takingontheworld · 13/08/2020 19:04

Hi all, late to this thread.

I'm 5'2 (and a smidge!) Too!
Ive been on keto since may 19th and have lost 2stone.

I'm finding that one single meal remotely "off plan" equals a 2-4lb gain on the scales and i spend a good week getting it back off. This is SO frustrating. The scales are so much harsher than they are on slimming world (only other diet I've done)

Ive 3 more stone to go, so really a lot to do.

I'm rotating the same few meals atm and can't get enough Kale!

Does anyone have any quick and easy meals that are family friendly? Im exhausted and have found myself hungrier (despite the fat) and losing willpower recently.

I do 16:8 as many days of the week as possible. For a good while i wasn't hungry or craving anything at all but i reintroduced sugar free lemonade so I could have a nice drink in the garden with everyone else but it seems to have sparked sweet cravings i think?

I seem to swing between losing nothing for a week or losing a lb every other day or so for a week or so!? Anyone else?

ultrababy · 13/08/2020 19:25

It sounds as if you're doing great and feel like a lot of us here. Maintaining is hard but I'm not craving carbs which I thought I would. No recipes here. I eat the same thing twice a day.
Spinach
Chicken
Avocado
Cucumber
Feta
I snack on a handful of nuts. Maybe yoghurt and raspberries.
I only had half a stone to lose and did that in three weeks but instantly gained two pounds after last weekend.

AWryGiraffe · 13/08/2020 20:25

A veg omelette with cheese is family friendly, or scrambled / poached eggs with veg on the side, slice of toast for the carb eaters.

Spag Bol is low carb and you could have it with courgetti or on a bed of kale, or even just with cheese and broccoli on the side. Same with chilli.

WinnieLo · 13/08/2020 20:34

very low in carbs

I like discovering new foods that aren't meat.

Takingontheworld · 13/08/2020 21:30

Id turned 90% veg for a year before this sowas gutted to reintroduce meat and so much of it too, but equally i needed something to act fast for my health. I'd like to go veggie again when i reach target or near enough.

Right now i eat alot of fish, bolognaise, chilli with no beans with crispy kale and salads. Definitely need to get more creative.

AWryGiraffe · 13/08/2020 23:35

I'm veggie - been eating a combo of portobello mushrooms with mozzarella as a meat replacement type thing, or roasted aubergine with cheese, there's some quorn stuff that's low carb - the plain pieces or fillets, fake bacon, think the naked glory tikka strips are ok. Most veggie mince isn't bad either.

AWryGiraffe · 13/08/2020 23:36

Also veggie fajitas with avocado and cheese (wraps for the carb eaters), egg fried cauli rice is a staple.

Takingontheworld · 14/08/2020 02:36

Sadly i blinking hate mushrooms!

I'm finding that so many fruits and veg are carby that I'm eating a small selection (but in high quantity, a half - full bag of kale a day 😳)

WinnieLo · 14/08/2020 08:12

@Takingontheworld i completely get that. Would feel cuttinh down on meat and eatinh more veg is more instinctive, but i need to figure out how to stay slimmer than i was.

tempeh is nice and has fat unlike quorn. Although quorn fried in butter and garlic is something i want to try. Gonna do some tempeh in peanut butter and soy sauce with chilli powder this weekend. Leave out the maple syrup 😓 I crave more veg and feel sick and heavy if i have a lot of meat. I made the keto bread rolls linked up thread and that has helped because if i have one at lunch they are really filling and i think phew! Another meal that didnt have meat in it.
Im going to make more keto bread rolls at the weekend and freeze them. Eating meat once a day max about 4 days out of 7 id say.

Takingontheworld · 14/08/2020 09:32

Its definitely hard to do this veggie isn't it. Im missing chickpea curries and all the beany chillis and Mexican food i made. Perhaps i need to set aside some time to see how many veg based meals i can come up with. I work 2 jobs and with the kids home too its so tough trying to dedicate time right now.
