Hi, I’ve not tried Keto before so any advice welcome.

Anyone else just starting out, we could support each other.

Wow. you're really going for it!

I keep thinking of Dr Jason Fung saying that exercise has many benefits but weight loss isn't one of them! Are you working out three times a week? No wonder you felt it was a struggle that third session.

I don't understand the repercussions on the metabolism of presenting your body with a totally different way of eating and 3 high intensity work outs per week but I imagine it could be stressful for your body leading to too much cortisol.

Nothing more than a feeling really but I'd say if you can't face a high intensity workout session and it's your third that week, feel NO guilt about replacing it with a walk.

Listen to your body!

justgoingforanap · 20/07/2020 10:59

Surprisingly down about 1lb to 81.2, which the considering the week I had is not too bad!

KetoIFWinnie · 20/07/2020 11:00

Better than a plateau!

OuzoWoozo · 20/07/2020 11:48

Ahh thanks, I started the training a few weeks ago, so it was interesting to see how this is affecting it. I exercise a lot anyway - one of life's fit but fat people 😂

JustMoved123 · 20/07/2020 12:13

Well done you dedicated Ketoers! I gave the scales a swerve this morning! I’ll report back later in the week though have to confess I’m not feeling very motivated today and craving bread! I’ve not caved in so hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow.

Another 1lb off this week, I'm thrilled that I'm now just over half a stone off in 3 weeks without feeling deprived at all. I managed my first run in ages this morning too as I suddenly seem to have more energy. I'm really enjoying this way of eating!

justgoingforanap · 20/07/2020 12:34

@JustMoved123 I definitely haven't been dedicated! I was really surprised to have lost something - really just by reducing processed carbs, it was not Keto! Hope you have a better week this week.

hamstersarse · 20/07/2020 14:48

@OuzoWoozo

Sounds like an amazing first week!
So glad you can feel the difference already.

The sleep / dream thing is really weird! I had it for the first month...I felt like it was the best sleep I’d ever had and despite being a ‘snooze button’ person for 40 years, I’m now always awake before my alarm and never ever have a day time nap.
I’m sure there’s a study somewhere on what causes this change to sleep by cutting out the crap in your diet!

Speaking of crap, I drink and have throughout keto. My observations on alcohol....I get drunk very quickly. Almost instantly! I really have to reign it in now. I just can’t sit and drink all night (with friends btw...starting to sound like I have a problem!), I really only can ‘have a few’

JustMoved123 · 20/07/2020 15:25

@hamstersarse - what do you drink? Do you think it’s affecting you more as you’ve lost weight or because there is less food to absorb it?

I've just had this for my dinner - a whole can of tuna steak in oil, 2 artichoke hearts in oil and garlic, 2tblsp creme fraiche with a bit of watercress and basil, dressing, chilli flakes and black pepper. Delicious and so filling. Is it really ok and only 4g of net carbs?!

Starting Keto Diet tomorrow
KetoIFWinnie · 20/07/2020 18:14

Sounds delicious! That's a good net carb count for your whole dinner.

I had a tesco finest angus steak beef burger, 80 grams of cucumber, 4 cherry tomatoes, another avocado (had one earlier as well) bit of cashel blue cheese, some walnuts, Caesar dressing. I feel so full and can't believe I just about came in under the 20 net carbs (19!). Calories only 1090. Any other diet I've ever been on, I'd be so hungry at 1090 calories, I"d have to eat something else, but I took my -ketobaby slowly over to the sofa where I will have to sit still for a while now!

KetoIFWinnie · 20/07/2020 18:14

19 net carbs for the whole day I mean.

Would love a glass of wine! But I can forgo that. Plus, it's MONDAY

KetoIFWinnie · 20/07/2020 18:17

Well done! and especially well done on the run. I had a day off today and ventured out for a walk. I used to run. Can't quite get it together for a run right now.

Honestly about 2 months ago I felt to cumbersome to run. Don't have that excuse now. Maybe I will think about a run.

pontiouspilates · 20/07/2020 19:43

I felt the same ketowinnie I've run for years, but the weight crept on and it's been months since I last got out. I did week 2 of Couch to 5k this morning (figured I'd have some muscle memory) it was hard going, but I felt great. Give it a go!

justgoingforanap · 20/07/2020 20:03

@KetoIFWinnie I'm on 24 net carbs but 10!!! of those were full fat milk in my first coffee of the day. I just love my milk frothy for that first cup of the day. I've had 2 other almond milk coffees, but it's just not the same. I really need to find an almond milk that will froth!

I am hungry again now though. I'll see if a Diet Coke will tide me over until bedtime. But I have to make my daughter some dinner so it's going to be hard to avoid picking.

KetoIFWinnie · 20/07/2020 21:39

Wow. I feel your dilemma. Did you crack and treat yourself today or do you have to allow this many net carbs for milk every day??

Luckily i can cope with almond milk in coffee but I had to give up tea. I cant cope with anything except good old fashioned cows milk in tea. Anything else ruins the tea. Teeeeeeaaaaaaa. Would love a cup now. 😭

justgoingforanap · 20/07/2020 22:02

@KetoIFWinnie I did have one today, and other coffees with almond milk. I don't really drink tea unless I'm in the office, or with cake! Neither of which I'm doing ATM. I did see some barista almond milk in Sainsbury's (not the Alpro one) but it was £3.50 whereas the Alpro unsweetened was on special offer for £1. But I might treat myself!

Even with the cows milk I'm still only on 24g and 1022 calories (I did just cave and have a bit of cheese which is annoying as it's late).
I'll do some frothing research!

Turkeydrumstick · 21/07/2020 09:12

God I miss tea! I normally only have one a day in the morning with lots of sugar.

I’m starting to really struggle with actually eating though, I’m just not hungry. I’ll get halfway through a meal and get bored of eating. I’ll have some snacks during the day but be really full from say a handful of nuts or some cheese so I’m hitting 1200 calories but forcing myself to. I can’t wait to start swimming again to see if that will give me a reboot!

hamstersarse · 21/07/2020 11:46

@Turkeydrumstick

You are probably fat adapted and your hunger / satiety hormones have started to reset. And from this comes a strange previously unbelievable lack of appetite!

Just run with it, you won’t run out of energy. You body is firing on all cylinders, just eat when you are hungry

I do think it’s really a habit thing that is off putting, your day is usually punctuated by the need to eat and suddenly those intermissions in your day are gone. I still struggle sometimes if you’ve been out for a big walk, for example, you’d ‘usually’ want to go for a bite to eat straight after, but you just aren’t hungry and it sort of changes the occasion, if you know what I mean!

But I wouldn’t go back to craving food all the time for a million dollars

KetoIFWinnie · 21/07/2020 13:49

I reckon tea is part of the reason i got fat! Some days i had ten cups of tea. 50 mls of cows milk in each. An insulin spike sending glucose to my fat cells every half an hour!

pontiouspilates · 21/07/2020 13:57

Same here regarding Tea. I am still having a couple of cups a day using lacto free milk, not ideal, but better. I'm also trying to get used to enjoying my coffee without any milk. What's the almond milk like? We usually have oat milk as a dairy sub but that's off the cards too isn't it?

justgoingforanap · 21/07/2020 15:16

I find the almond milk fine, and ok on its own as well, it just doesn't froth!

KetoIFWinnie · 21/07/2020 16:46

Yeh oat milk full of carbs. Shame, it is nicer than almond milk.

Almond milk might be nice on its own, as a drink its own right! It adds a nutty flavour which i can just about accept in coffee but not tea.

Is lactose free milk lower in carbs then?

pontiouspilates · 21/07/2020 18:27

Yes. For example Sainsburys own brand Lacto free semi skimmed is 100ml at 3.3grams whereas normal semi skimmed is 4.8g for the same amount.

KetoIFWinnie · 21/07/2020 19:47

Oh ill have a look. You cant beat a bit of mill in tea.
