I lost all my excess weight two years LCHFing. It's crept back on over the past year as ive reaching for the frackers, been, eating the kids chips etc. Carb creep and not tracking...means I'm 15lbs over where I like to be ☹️

So, I need to reboot.

I've started tracking today. My aim is to have less than thirty grams carbs a day...

I am armed with double cream, babybel and dark chocolate.

Anyone want to join me?

Thanks Zoti, it’s really good fun although I apparently have zero upper body strength and ended up with bruises on my arms and legs... but I will get better!

Aromatic welcome! 16:8 is interesting, I hadn’t considered combining the two.

I’ve been reading good things about gelatine helping weight loss so have been getting creative in making some soya/cream/gelatine dessert pots which are great for when sweet cravings hit.

50andgoingstrong · 15/06/2018 17:14

zoti I don't even look at the calories. Just carbs!

Welcome back banging thatsgreat you're back to where you were before holiday. Lol at yoga burlesque combo! Sounds fun!

Hello Aromatic sounds like you have your ur head in the game! Keep us posted!

Tried mfp to count macros today:
Carb -41g = 20%
Fat - 56g = 60%
Protein -41g =20%

I think, ideally, I need to drop carbs further?

BangingOn · 15/06/2018 23:47

20g of carbs is usually considered a start point for low carbing, increasing from there. Are you following keto as you mention macros?

50andgoingstrong · 16/06/2018 07:36

zoti that's a great starting point
The lower he carbs the better. I try to aim for 70% fat 10% carbs 20% protein

Yesterday was 69/11/20. If you click on food diary page there's a coloured pie chart at the top so you can see them easily.

OP posts:
50andgoingstrong · 16/06/2018 07:42

Keto macros are 70/5/25 I think.

OP posts:
Zoti · 16/06/2018 08:48

50 , I use macros loosely in that I am aiming for 20% carbs, 40% protein and 40% fat.
Actually, am I confusing the concepts?
Carbs in grams to be counted is net carbs right? As I understand it that means look at carb number deduct fibre number so that gives you net carb. So thinking of having Linda McCartney’s vege sausages this morning. Carbs in 2 sausages is 6.9 but fibre is 4.6 I think so my net carbs will be 2.3g to record?
As a newbie , what is the simplest thing I can record consistently please?

BangingOn · 16/06/2018 09:01

If you look back through the thread we’ve had debate about net carbs. I’ve concluded it’s an American term as their food labelling is different to ours, in the U.K. the carbs on a label are already net carbs. Polyoils are the exception.

Zoti · 16/06/2018 11:49

Thanks so much, bangingon! i checked out the page and very clear explanation. Wow, all this while i thought i understood it. Essentially my two veg sausages count for 6.9 carbs, not the 2.3 i was blissfully assuming.
Not funny! At least I know now. Glad I have done my body combat class today so by Fitbit counting have expended 570 cals so that must help.:)
Thanks again.

BangingOn · 16/06/2018 16:35

You’re very welcome! I’d made the same mistake previously and way overestimated my carbs. It doesn’t help that so much of what is written is American and so tells you to deduct carbs.

50andgoingstrong · 16/06/2018 19:15

Day 10✅ 51g carbs (16g fibre)

Weighed myself this morning. No change since before my holiday so that's great after all those ice creams etc ☺️

Got back into my old jeans this morning so although I'm not losing loads more lbs I feel so much better.

Still got a 6lbs to go, but after that I need to be a bit careful as if I lose too much my face gets really skinny! Not a good look at my age!

I'm getting not so bothered about the number of the scales now just on sticking to this way of eating and feeling good!

keep going....

Well done 50, that’s fab. You have a brilliant attitude to losing weight.

Takiwatanga · 17/06/2018 07:21

Hi 50, and everyone else!

I am back on this woe from tomorrow, just done my big shop for the week ahead and need to meal plan etc. Judy watched the dirt doc video link you shared, thank you. He is so dreamy isn't he, haha. But more importantly I really belive in his message.

I have done keto before and lost a lot of weight, but I was very rigid about it and got very obsessed with peeing on keto sticks haha. I am going to just try lchf this time, as I feel it'll be more sustainable for me and my personality type.

Looking forward to going forward with you ladies. 😀

Takiwatanga · 17/06/2018 07:22

Sorry for typos! JUST not Judy lol. And diet not dirt... 🙄

50andgoingstrong · 17/06/2018 09:26

Hi Taki and welcome.

I know what you mean about rigidity. I think in the past I've mentally been"on a diet" like you go on a holiday from life, so for a set amount of time with a "goal weight" in mind which always makes it a temporary thing in my head. Last time it took me six months to lose my excess weight, then a few months to start slipping into my old ways and then...it took two years, but eventually....it all went back on!

Looking at this now I'm viewing it as a lifestyle change for me. Forever! I'm not imposing it on my family but they are watching and already they are choosing lower carb stuff from my stash!

Dr A is very admirable isn't he., I've had a small crush on him since I came across his YouTube vid in 2014. Not just because is good looking honest Haha!.....but also, he has high moral values, and a total determination to get the message about the big pharma, the food industry and lchf out there.

Day 11✅ 46g carbs (16g fibre)

OP posts:
Linzdreamz · 17/06/2018 21:45

Welcome aromatic and Taki.
Zoti, I tried to count carbs, net carbs and found it really difficult as mostly I take a table spoon of this, half tub of that and then i need a calculator to add things up.Now going by diet doctor pics, so am only eating very low carb veggies, so sticking with the left hand side things, and making sure I am not eating more than 100gs of those at any time. That way I am always under 20gms per day, including the cream in my coffee. Hope what I am doing is right.
50, I always goes by the clothes as that is very easy to measure/feel. Were you hoping for a lose this week? I do have another 7lbs to loose, but then to keep it off. Like you I did lose all this in 2015 and it all came bcak. Hopefully I will be able to stay on this. I am soo glad this woe is helping me very much, every one started noticing, even from pics, so finally I am happy with what I am eating and it is working.
Weigh-in today, 9st 1 lbs, that makes it 11.7lbs total -( including 2 lb gained and lost week bfore)!

Actually My WI is monday, I was hoping to get it down to 8st something. But then went out with kids and dad for father's day, had to finish the food they ordered, as there was so much left over. I am still debating whether it was the right thing to do, but then what is done is done. 😞

Zoti · 17/06/2018 22:33

Linzddreamz, good suggestion about sticking to the left-hand side veggies and having no more than 100g. the less complicated this woe is the more chance i have of sticking with it.
I remain less bloated and that makes my clothes feel better and I am beginning to "feel my waist" if that makes any sense....just as well as it is where I carry most of my weight:(

50andgoingstrong · 18/06/2018 14:39

Yes a little disappointed that I'd not lost this week I will be honest. It is really motivating seeing the weight drop. However....I didn't put on any weight, I'd been on holiday enjoying myself the week before !

I agree you can tell by clothes. I can see my shape is changing even when my weight isn't dropping. My skin is better, my legs look much slimmer and smoother, the fat layer is just going and you can see muscle tone now. For example my tummy.. when I stretch my arms up you can actually see my muscles! Before it was just a jelly belly!

Takiwatanga · 18/06/2018 18:39

Thank you for the warm welcome
Day one for me was easier than expected, but I have eaten loads. Just now I am having clotted cream with pecan nuts. Hoping to minimize portions as I go on and it gets easier.

Has anyone heard of skinny syrup? Lovely syrups for deserts or coffee and 0% calorie and carbs. I'm hestitwnt to use them though as they're obviously not the healthiest... However I guess many of you will use sweetener? I'm unsure whether to go down that road...

50andgoingstrong · 18/06/2018 21:39

Sorry taki haven't heard of those.
Glad to hear it's going well. You'll get to know portions as you go along. Just eat until you're satiated. Then stop.

I'm terrible for not wanting to waste food. In the past eating stuff just so it won't "go to waste". Well it did. It all went to my waist!!

OP posts:
50andgoingstrong · 18/06/2018 21:41

I think the guidance is to avoid sweeteners so that you lose your sweet tooth. Helping you give up sugar.

I do drink squash with sweeteners in it.

OP posts:
BangingOn · 18/06/2018 23:00

I do use sweetener, in moderation, and it’s not stalled my weight loss, although I know for many people it does.

The low carb desserts I make are generally keto recipes and tend to be more creamy than sweet which strikes the right balance for me.
