Back on low carb, anyone want to join me?

I lost all my excess weight two years LCHFing. It's crept back on over the past year as ive reaching for the frackers, been, eating the kids chips etc. Carb creep and not tracking...means I'm 15lbs over where I like to be ☹️

So, I need to reboot.

I've started tracking today. My aim is to have less than thirty grams carbs a day...

I am armed with double cream, babybel and dark chocolate.

Anyone want to join me?

Only 24g carbs today but it's been tough!

Watching family scoffing roast dinners, crisps, , garlic bread, chocolate eggs, ice cream sundaes and baileys coffees!

torture.

Day 3 done ✅

frasier I think coffee is ok as long as you have it with cream not milk

The thought of bacon for breakfast tomorrow got me through

I'm in, starting Tuesday. I feel so much better eating LCHF. I don't binge, I feel fresher and I have more energy.

But why does chocolate taste so good??

TinaBacon · 02/04/2018 07:55

I’m starting tomorrow too. Does MFP calculate macros, or do you put them in manually somewhere? Am I right in thinking macros are the total carbs, fat and protein? I’m a bit confused about where net carbs fit into this.

TinaBacon · 02/04/2018 08:07

Sorry, another newbie question. What’s the difference between aiming for less than 50g of total carbs and counting macros? I’ve got a bit confused, to work out how many macros I need don’t I need to know my body fat percentage (or something)?

WhataLovelyPear · 02/04/2018 09:09

Morning all! I'm going to join you, if that's OK. I did the Blood Sugar Diet last year, which was brilliant but expensive. Now I've put most of the weight back on so I'm going to try again but with some substitutions so it doesn't break the bank.

WhataLovelyPear · 02/04/2018 09:11

And sorry, TinaBacon, I don't know the answer to that one Confused

AnnaT45 · 02/04/2018 09:12

Oh I would like to join please. I have 3.5 weeks till holiday and need to lose bloat. I've loosely done low carb before and it's always worked.

Can I ask what type of things you snack on? Cheese etc? Also can I just have black coffee? I don't like it with cream.

Well done 50 for doing this over Easter weekend!

TheDeuteragonist · 02/04/2018 10:23

@tinabacon

www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/

You can put all your info into the calculator and get your macros.

You can put in how many net carbs you'd like to hit and it works out everything around that.

I hope that's what you meant!

TheDeuteragonist · 02/04/2018 10:26

I think there's a handy link in there for body fat percentage as well, so you can estimate it.

It will work out how many g of protein and fat you need eating to your desired carb intake.

I'm tired so I'm aware I'm not making the best of sense.

Kleptronic · 02/04/2018 10:38

@tinabacon MyFitnessPal does it in percentages, so you have to shimmy about a bit with the grammes (which it converts to percentages) until you get 100%.

Net carbs is American, they split them out between fibrous and water soluble (I think that's what it is anyway) on the constituents list. We don't so don't worry about it, we just use total carbs so keep your total carbs less than 50g.

I also use the www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/ it's good, it'll explain about MyFitnessPal when you've calculated your macros.

frasier · 02/04/2018 10:50

Thanks for the coffee info.

I don't count the carbs as such. I know from last time what I can eat and follow a basic diet when low carbing most of the time with occasional flurries into creative cookery when I have a craving for something! (Almond flour muffins and the like.)

I do use ketostix though, anyone else use those?

Livinglifepeachy · 02/04/2018 14:01

I have my wedding in 4 months ans started my diet this morning.. I have lost the will to live. Helpppppp me stay on top of this as well. I just want to have a tirimisu that's in the fridge

frasier · 02/04/2018 14:10

Livinglife go to the shop and get yourself a treat that you can have. Go now!

I've sent DH out!

Livinglifepeachy · 02/04/2018 14:15

I've asked my partner to get me double cream and chicken going to stick with it I must get out of the rut of giving up. My hardest is soft drinks as I don't like the taste of water so I am drinking peppermint tea and green tea all day today

Threeminis · 02/04/2018 14:21

I'll join but not starting till Monday next week as the kids are off and we have loads of things happening this week - I know, excuses, excuses...

TinaBacon · 02/04/2018 14:54

Thanks for the info, will investigate. I saw on a website (maybe Blood Sugar Diet?) that a good general rule of thumb is that everything you eat should be below 5g of sugars per 100g. If I just stuck to that would that work, I wonder. I have a lot to lose (94kg).

50andgoingstrong · 02/04/2018 15:04

I have used ketostix in the past. I still have some, although they're probably out of date! I'm going to gauge how I'm feeling after a week. If im losing weight I'm in ketosis.

I think black coffee is carb free Anna

Put the tiramisu DOWN and go and get dark chocolate, mix with double cream and have with a mint tea?

That was to livinglife😃

50andgoingstrong · 02/04/2018 15:11

When I did this way of eating before I started with under 100g carbs, then after a week if so, cut to under 50g. I was losing weight. As I got used to eating this way my carbs naturally dropped down some days to under 30g.

I watched the diet doctor lecture on YouTube and it kept me motivated.

I think everyone is different. I'm aiming low this time to help me get out of my bad habits.......crackers and cheese, handfuls of the kids chips....the odd wee biscuit😜

I just had chicken with kimchi parsnips and carrot I kept eyeing the chocolate but got through it. This is my first attempt at going carb free I have never done it before. Does this affect your mood or give you a little dull headache?

50andgoingstrong · 02/04/2018 16:02

Can give you a headache and bit of a fluey feeling a few days in.
Drink lots of water and gave salt in your food and it passes. I use sugarfree electrolyte drinks.

Carrots and parsnips are relatively high carb veggies, but so much better than chocolate!

If you go on the boot camp threads they have fruit and vegetable lists. Low carb veg tend to be green and leafy. Also, fruit can be high in sugar.

Can I join too? As from tomorrow I want to go back to keto to get the next 3 stone off. I lost 3 stone last year and have maintained since then doing just low carb high fat. I now know I can keep my weight steady and no longer panic about the times I can't control my food. Eating out is okay, the odd deviation doesn't matter as low carb is for the long term. It does help that I don't drink though!

I'm not going to weigh, I'll go by my clothes this time. How's everyone else doing?

Livinglifepeachy · 02/04/2018 17:03

Thanks so much for the insight of the bootcamp there are recipes and all sorts. I think I let myself down today with the carrots and parsnips I thought I was on the right track oh dear. Will do better tomorrow!

I find diets a lot of the time harder than quitting smoking. Need to be more active as well.
