Morning all Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet for its final outing although that said, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added extra columns for anyone who wants to keep using it

I hope that all has gone well - and I notice that we have at least 2 Bootcampers who have reached/exceeded the 1 stone mark, which is fantastic!

Just because we've reached the end of the 8 weeks doesn't mean that you have to stop - or stop chatting. We'll keep this thread going for as long as people want to use it, and I'll start a new one once this one gets full.

Feeling very menopausal and large of tum.
Have been eating salads and tuna, exercising a lot, drinking water and have upped my HRT so hopefully it will sort itself out in a few weeks.

(That was for @Afternoonteavirgin)!

@Lougle at least you only have one pot. Go and buy yourself some clotted cream and mix that up with the yoghurt. It will be delicious.

Now there's a suggestion I don't need to read twice!!

Me neither and I don’t have 0% yoghurt! Sounds gorgeous!

Hello all! I've been sticking to LC all summer; was away from home and didn't have access to scales for about 7 weeks, but have been fairly consistent (apart from some slip ups involving too much extra thick double cream, cheese and nuts!). Am not weighing myself atm because I have some medical stuff that needs addressing (horrendous bloating due to pelvic varicose veins). Hoping I'll be back to normal in a couple of months after an op, but I'm sticking with low carbing, mainly because I can see how carbs have such a negative effect on me.

Can I ask for some food advice from you knowledgeable lot please? I have 2 types of coconut cream/milk. The cream has total fat of 22g (per 100ml) and total carbs of 4g. The light milk has 9g of fat and 1g of carbs. Since the fat content of the light milk is still high, would you choose that to cook with (since it's lower carb)? Or am I overthinking things...?!

BIWI · 04/09/2024 13:12

Go with the higher fat one (unless you're going to consume gallons of it!

somanylights · 04/09/2024 13:18

Thank you @BIWI ! It's another thing I have to watch, like dairy, because I am capable of drinking gallons of the stuff...(in a paneer curry, not straight from the tin!).

Morning lovely bc-ers!!!! Checking back in after another hectic couple of weeks, festival over the bank holiday, then overnight trip to DD's uni town during the week after and just home last night from a trip away with friends...........none of which was particularly bc compliant. Immense fun though, will have a fast today with lots of water and putting together a meal plan for the next couple of weeks!!!!
DD goes on the 21st which is the next "thing" to deal with (as well as normal life going on around it) so need to feel like I'm in control of at keast food or I'll be back to old ways in no time 😭. Nice to see some new (returning?) names and going to have a good look at the recipe threads too, not back at work until Monday so nice and chilled.

TheOnlyMrsW · 05/09/2024 15:54

Treated myself to a market shop instead of supermarket, and picked up 1/2 leg of lamb - offset by a cauliflower, savoy, swede, broccoli and kg of carrots for £5 😊. Happily planning the weekend (& hopefully a lot of next week) around that! Definitely feels more autumnal here so suits those veg I think.

TheOnlyMrsW · 06/09/2024 10:42

Serves me right for describing it as autumnal as it's 22 degrees here today 🤦‍♀️, at least I can get the washing dry!!!! 4lb down already this morning (I'm aware a lot of that will be plane water retention) but still another 7 before I'm back to my lowest and a full stone before I dip into the healthy weight bracket so a way to go yet.
Didn't eat yesterday but had plenty of water and herbal tea, this morning's breakfast was chorizo, spinach, mushrooms and pepper fried in butter with 2 poached eggs and grated cheese, very yummy and will last me til this evening, last day of leave today so am catching up on life admin and writing yet another list for uni packing!!!! Koko all and have fab weekends 😊

Hi everyone! 👋 Long time since I've been on these threads.

Thanks to @BIWI and @FinallyHere and to all the long-timers who make this such a great corner of the internet. Flowers

Finding my way back to fully LCHF atm, with some tweaks due to various issues I'm facing. Hoping to get properly enthused again and also back to full health.

PunksVersusBrats · 08/09/2024 09:52

Good morning all. I'm creeping shamefully back onto the thread, as I let the school holiday (especially perceived 'treats') get the better of me and have put lots of the hard-earned pounds back on again. Why, oh why, do I never learn! 😣

Anyway, onwards and upwards now that I'm back at work. I have a freezer full of soup, so that I don't to think about lunch (and can drink it while I work) and need to look at why I keep doing the same things, time and again, when I know what will happen 🙈

FinallyHere · 08/09/2024 13:03

Anyone else noticed that hunger, that urgency which feels as if I need to eat or die, isn't around much when we eat low carb?

I've been noticing all the reasons I think about eat long that have little or nothing to do with being hungry. Most commonly it seems to be appear when I'm a bit bored or finding what I am supposed to be doing a bit tedious. My mind jumps around thinking of, it's eleven o'clock time for a break, I'll make some coffee. While making it the thought of those biscuits we have 'for visitors' float into my brain.

And when it's 'time for lunch' or whatever other meal I can think of. If I ignore the thought it goes away ok these days (another joy of low carb). I'm am wondering just how long it might take if I just left it to see when I do finally sic feel hungry.

Anyone else found anything similar? Would there be any problem in just waiting to see what happens, so long as I do have suitable delicious food available so don't get stuck eating off plan because there isn't anything available.

One of the reasons I started thinking about this is that I enjoy doing group walks where on the longer routes we are advised to bring plenty of snacks. I just don't buy do drink lots of water. Not actually been asked about it yet but who knows when someone might. It would be good to know how long I can leave it between meals so long as I have plenty of water.

BIWI · 08/09/2024 13:23

Yes, it's because when you're low carbing you're keeping the key hormones (insulin, grehlin and leptin) in balance. That's what controls your hunger (not an empty stomach!)

Carbs lead to carbs - because if you're eating a lot of them, your blood sugar levels are constantly peaking and crashing. And it's the crashing which tells you you have to eat. Which is why it's very common, if you're eating a diet high in carbs, that you're hungry at around 11.00 and 15.00.

OP posts:
StuntNun · 08/09/2024 13:30

@FinallyHere fasting is like a muscle: the more you exercise it the stronger it gets. If you can fast overnight for 16 hours then 24 hours, e.g. from dinner time one day to dinner time three next, isn't much of a stretch as you're only missing one more meal.

FinallyHere · 08/09/2024 13:36

Thank you lovely people, that's good to know. Is there any reason to not try and see how long it takes till I really do feel hungry?

I know bootcamp rules include eat only when you are hungry, so maybe I should have been waiting all along. Ooops.

HappyDane · 08/09/2024 13:37

Oh also big thanks to @StuntNun! 💐

I knew there was someone else I was meaning to mention.

BIWI · 08/09/2024 13:57

No @FinallyHere - its "eat when you are hungry"! (Low carb stuff, obvs)

OP posts:
StuntNun · 08/09/2024 13:59

@FinallyHere don't try intermittent or extended fasting until you've adapted to eating low carb. And, like you say, make sure you've got something ready to eat when you do get hungry so you don't faceplant into carbs by accident!

BIWI · 08/09/2024 14:06

The 'eat when you're hungry' is an especially important guideline when you're just starting a low carb WOE, as you may find yourself still hungry between meals until your body has switched to burning fat for fuel.

FinallyHere · 08/09/2024 14:38

Thank you for the a timely reminder @BIWI and for the input alongside @StuntNun

IVbumble · 08/09/2024 17:22

I thought I'd seen a documentary about grehlin in that some people have higher levels dependent on their genes but I could be wrong about that & it wouldn't be the first time.

Sugar/carbs definitely lead to more eating on more occasions than if I cut down to really low levels.

Planning is key. My healthy eating plan for the whole week starts just by boiling eggs on a Sunday. As long as I boil those eggs I will then make the egg salads ready for the week. [I make 4 at a time]

If I eat the salad I don't eat anything unhealthy for the next 4 days until it's time to boil the next set of eggs. If I have the salad for lunch I'm then committed on work days to have porridge for tea [with a couple of frozen raspberries bunged in & a mascarpone dollop on top] & on non work days I swap them around. So porridge at 11:00 & salad for tea.

NotDonna · 10/09/2024 22:41

@IVbumble what are you using for porridge? I haven’t come across a low carb one.

IVbumble · 11/09/2024 07:24

@NotDonna I have 5 teaspoons of oats with water microwaved which keeps me feeling fuller longer & has low glycemic index which I believe doesn't cause sugar spikes after consumption.

NotDonna · 11/09/2024 08:53

@IVbumble ah ok I’m pretty sure oats aren’t low carb and wouldn’t be part of low carbing. You’re probs losing weight though!
