Week 7 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - final fortnight

BIWI · 24/06/2024 08:10

Morning all.

Finally we're having some summertime! It seems like it's much easier to stay low carbing when the weather is nice, for some reason.

Tonight we're going to have fritatta (without the potatoes, obvs) as I'm using up veg in the fridge before I go shopping tomorrow. So it will be shallots, peppers, leek, courgette (all gently softened in plenty of butter) and a load of cheese. Will serve it with a green salad, with an oily dressing, as I have a lettuce that needs to be used. For lunch, I'm finishing up stuff we had at our barbecue on Saturday night - a beefburger, some marinated chicken and coleslaw.

Here's the spreadsheet some really good results so far, and still scope for losing a couple more pounds before we finish this Bootcamp. I'm hoping that when I next weigh (this time around my 'official' weigh-in is Thursday) that the scales might actually start with a 9. I'm so close to that it's tantalising!

However, although next week is our final week, I'm not going to be around for a lot of it, as DH and I are off to Vienna for a few days - my Christmas present! - so I really want to achieve this next target before we leave early next week.

Thank you @BIWI Flowers

Dh had his hip replacement on Friday. In and out in just under 12 hours Shock Fantastic care at the Jubilee Hospital and the "before and after" X-rays are pretty impressive. I hadn't realised that it wasn't just the ball and socket but includes a long piece of titanium that goes down into the femur Shock.

He's in a bit of pain, which comes and goes (and for once he's taking all the painkillers, including the ocycodin Wink) but is otherwise walking around the house slowly Smile He has to be nagged reminded to use the two sticks at all times Grin

I had to carve the roast chicken last night, rather than him, which means it was somewhat hacked Blush

BIWI · 24/06/2024 08:56

In and out in 12 hours is fantastic! Hope he's pain-free soon Flowers

Checking in.

Tiny loss for me of 0.2lbs this week. I'm definitely finding it harder to lose weight this time round - may be age (practically 50) and HRT.

I'm going to try and eat less dairy this week. I do find it hard though as am not much of a meat eater so tend to have cheese with salad for lunch every day.

Enjoy Vienna @BIWI. Hope your DH recovers well @prettybird

UnOeufIsEnough · 24/06/2024 09:17

@prettybird I hope your DH recovers quickly! Flowers

I'm 2.8lb up this week. I've not done anything drastically different so I'm chalking it up to hormones/water retention so I'll keep on going and hopefully it drops off again!

Water water water! 💦

NotDonna · 24/06/2024 09:26

Thank you for the heads up re the cashews BIWI luckily it was a small handful.
If you look at the spreadsheet there’s a lot at around 5% to 6% loss, which is fabulous in just a few weeks! Huge well done everyone.
It’s already steaming here so took the dog for a walk first thing and already drink a litre!
Lunch - ChickenCaesar salad no croutons
dinner - prawn, tomato, feta with ? ( with Crusty bread for DD1)
I don’t want bread as totally gone off it since starting this. Can’t say the same for chocolate!

BIWI · 24/06/2024 09:27

Well you can have chocolate! Just make sure it's at least 70% cocoa, and that you restrict yourself to a couple of squares. You should, by now, find that your palate has changed, and that a higher cocoa content is more pleasurable than much milkier chocolate. My go to these days is 90% cocoa - Sainsbury's do a lovely Ugandan chocolate, in their Taste the Difference range.

I'm in a huff with my scales this morning as it shows me back up at 19.1. I was 18.12 yesterday so I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears la la la I'm not listening

KOKO

UnOeufIsEnough · 24/06/2024 10:43

@SpellitwithaY It's the psychology of going back a stone bracket even if it's just by a very small amount!

Your body has seen that lower weight and you'll be back there before you know it! I've been hovering around the lower end of a stone bracket for a while but I just can't seem to get over the hurdle!

Thesoundofmusic23 · 24/06/2024 10:50

1.6lbs this week - definitely heading downwards and I am hitting new lows each week even if not on weigh in day. Looks like I won’t get to 140 this boot camp but pleased to be lowly and sustainably reaching my goals. Hope everyone has a good week.

Catching up on the chat after a weekend away and that Rose Elliot granola looks delicious - def going to bank that one for the future.

pinknsparkly · 24/06/2024 10:55

Hi all. I've been very quiet and struggling to stay on track. However, inspired by BIWIs comment about knowing that she's slipping if she stops weighing daily, I have downloaded a weight tracking app and have been weighing daily for the last few days. It's been utterly eye opening! I obviously knew weights fluctuate a bit but according to my scales I managed to put on 1.1kg in less than 24 hours and lost it all again in the following 48 hours! I'm (right at the top of!) the healthy BMI range so my weight loss will naturally be slower and I usually get discouraged when a weekly weigh in shows an apparent gain. How do the daily weighers choose their "weekly" weight?

Best of luck caring for the invalid @prettybird - I've got a 3 year old with a broken arm who isn't supposed to be running or jumping or getting it wet..... They live their life at a constant 110mph so I've had to settle for being happy with keeping it dry and not being tooooo crazy!

I've got veggies, a good splash of red wine vinegar, garlic, rosemary and lamb neck fillets in the slow cooker for dinner

Bex5490 · 24/06/2024 11:53

@BIWI Im crossing my fingers and toes for your 9. I last weighed 9 stone something when I was 24 but since I’m 5 ft 8, I doubt I’ll ever see that again!

3.2lb down this week which I’m thrilled about because I’ve been SO strict and even braved the gym!

Im off on holiday the Tuesday after our last weigh in so perfect timing to end boot camp strong. 🙏🏽

DrBlackbird · 24/06/2024 13:54

I forgot to weigh myself until after breakfast even if was only coffee with cream and 10% yogurt would it make massive difference?

All last week I was weighing myself and even dropped to 163.25kg at one day but consistently hovering around 164.

Then this morning back up to 165 so no loss last week?! Argh. Why is this happening? 😭 Yesterday was bad for water, but how can missing drinking water for one day have such an impact?

This honestly might just be the coffee. I go up at least 1lb after eating or drinking anything. I’d just try again tomorrow 😊

MissBeck · 24/06/2024 16:45

Afternoon all!

@prettybird Ooh, wishes of speedy recovery for DH xx

@BIWI Thanks for the new thread! Can't believe we're on week 7 😮

@SpellitwithaY I'm also huffing with you! 😤

@Stowickthevast I'm wondering if the dairy is also stalling me as I have cheese for breakfast every morning 🙄

@UnOeufIsEnough No biggie, bet you lose next week. 🤗

@Thesoundofmusic23 It's a great feeling isn't it. May be ups and downs, but the downs are great!

@pinknsparkly 'How do the daily weighers choose their "weekly" weight?'
I don't! 😂I weigh every night at 9pm in my pyjamas and record it, and then do 1 Monday morning weigh in for bootcamp, starkers as soon as I get up, and that it what I record on the spreadsheet, just the Monday morning one. And it's always identical to my previous Sunday night weigh in.

@Bex5490 FFS woman!! 3.2lb loss?? You're putting us all to shame!! 😂😂That's a brilliant loss! Well done you!!

@DrBlackbird I don't know how, but the water is magic!! 🎉

Well, put on 0.4lb this week. I actually feel dumpy as well. 😆Oh well, such is life! Got some kind of mystery meat and veggies for dinner tonight. Not sure what the meat is yet as I found it packaged in the freezer so just stuck it in the fridge to defrost. Must ask my butcher to write on the bags what stuff is! 😂Lunch was a prawn cocktail salad.

PunksVersusBrats · 24/06/2024 18:58

Nothing lost this week but nothing gained either so just more KOKO 💪

prettybird · 24/06/2024 19:17

I've posted the lemon posset recipe on the Desserts and other sweet things recipe thread.

BIWI · 24/06/2024 20:23

@DrBlackbird Don't worry about it - just weigh tomorrow, first thing, before you've had anything to eat and drink.

Ceo

NotDonna · 24/06/2024 23:13

I have NO clue what the CEO is about.
@pinknsparkly I weigh daily but still record my Monday weight as I know it’ll be down again by the following Monday (unless I’ve cheated). If I took the lowest weight of the week then it may stay the same (or be up) by the following Monday and then I’ll be grumpy. It’s all psychological - I’m sure plenty of others will take their lowest week on week. @MissBeck Im flabbergasted that you’re the same on an eve as you are in the morning! I’m MUCH heavier on an eve; a good 2-3lbs heavier.
Great result this week @Bex5490 🥳

Thanks @BIWI I’m going to use the elastic band trick and see how I get on.

I made a point of drinking more water yesterday and weighed myself before breakfast this morning (so even a cup of coffee seems to make a difference) and will update the spreadsheet.

After rereading the FAQ, I saw that too few calories can stall weight loss, which I think subconsciously I was thinking I had to do, but will ensure I stick to three sound meals a day. Planning really is key.

DrBlackbird · 25/06/2024 08:50

Honestly, these threads so vital to managing the process and I thought I knew about weight loss but am happy to be corrected on that!

BIWI · 25/06/2024 07:54

Weirdly the link I posted above isn't showing when I access MN via the app. So here it is again, @DrBlackbird:

Bootcamp FAQs

No 15 will answer your question about water

That would explain the number of times I've recently seen posts that supposedly have a link that doesn't seem to be there for me Confused

The app has supposedly been update but I can't see any changes or improvements in functionality (eg still no PMs) Hmm but there do seem to be some new glitches Shock

Lougle · 25/06/2024 09:22

Well I'm finally 1.3lb down this week. I'll stop moaning for now.
