Week 3 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Light or full-on?!

Morning all.

This week sees the opportunity to add back into your diet fruit, nuts and seeds, chocolate and alcohol, by moving to Bootcamp Light.

HOWEVER!

All of the above in moderation.

Fruit - keep the focus on berries, and don't go mad by having lots of it, regularly. As with veg, there's a carb counter on the spreadsheet which you can use - just look at how few fruits are in the green section!

Nuts/seeds - there's a carb counter for nuts on the spreadsheet too (and when I get round to it, I'll do one for seeds. Again, go easy. While they're very good for us, they can get carby very quickly as they're so moreish.

Chocolate - aim for a minimum of 70% cocoa. You'll be surprised - if you've been avoiding sweet things for a while - at how easy it is to enjoy higher cocoa content chocolate. It's also actually good for us too. Lindt make a good 90% chocolate, but I prefer one that Sainsbury's sell, in their Taste the Difference range, which is a Ugandan one - https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-ugandan-90-dark-chocolate-taste-the-difference-100g

2 squares of this is very satisfying.

Alcohol - be very careful here. Partly because you'll find it has more of an effect on you if you're not eating carbs, and partly because once you start drinking you'll suddenly find yourself easily able to justify those crisps! But mainly because a) there can be a lot of carbs in it; b) all the time you're drinking alcohol, this is the source of fuel that your body will be using, rather than fat and c) even if you choose a spirit which has no carbs in it, chances are you'll be drinking it with an artificially sweetened mixer - and remember we're trying to avoid the artificial sweeteners.

Happy birthday @MissBeck

Good luck with the treatment @Rhabarberbarbara hope it all goes well.

happy birthday @MissBeck 🎂 and a great idea for @NigellaAwesome to borrow the big stick for DH!

Hi @Lougle i think I remember you from last time. Or a SEN thread maybe. I’m another with a tricky DD. Luckily not all of my 3 have food issues.

I’ve had a shocking week both food and alcohol wise. Down to very bad planning when staying at an Airbnb with DD whilst having her surgery. I’m really disappointed in myself. I’ve had quite a few fuck it moments and not sure why. I seem to do this. Have a good couple of weeks loss and then sabotage.

So I ended up falling off the wagon a bit last night - BBQ was chicken and veg and I stuck to my non-alcoholic gin and Prosecco so that was all good but my friend had brought Percy pigs and crisps and I succumbed to the temptation… back on it today though and have started off with FFGY with strawberries for breakfast. Going to a festival today so will find something bootcamp friendly there for lunch and probably have leftover BBQ for dinner…

Sending you flowers @Rhabarberbarbara

cancer teams in the NHS are outstanding

Absolutely @NigellaAwesome

DH has been in and out recently for all sorts and has had outstanding treatment and such kindness and compassion. Quite humbling.

@MissBeck belated Happy Birthday

@Rhabarberbarbara all the very best.

Omg @missbeck what lovely presents! You'll have to give us a review!

B - omelette with bacon mushrooms and sausage (didn't have this until about 12.30

D - soup from yesterday

I've been industrious today and I've made some fishcakes wrapped in bacon/ham (I didn't have enough bacon for all of them). I baked them in the oven. Just a fish pie mix, some spring onions, lemon zest, a squeeze of mayo and an egg. Thought I could have them with salad for lunches this week.

I've also made some coleslaw and baked a gammon joint.

Got a tricky few days coming up this week . Travelling with work Thursday with an overnight stay. The hotel should be fine but what to do about the office itself. 2.5-3 hour drive up there. I should be ok for breakfast before I go but I'm not sure what's available for lunch... On both days...might take something for Thursday and see if there is a supermarket nearby for a salad for Friday...

And I've a shopping trip with a friend Saturday... Should be ok. We rarely eat but do like a coffee....

Any way excited to see the weigh in tomorrow and Tuesday 😁
