Week 3 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Light or full-on?!

BIWI · 27/05/2024 08:43

Morning all.

This week sees the opportunity to add back into your diet fruit, nuts and seeds, chocolate and alcohol, by moving to Bootcamp Light.

HOWEVER!

All of the above in moderation.

Fruit - keep the focus on berries, and don't go mad by having lots of it, regularly. As with veg, there's a carb counter on the spreadsheet which you can use - just look at how few fruits are in the green section!

Nuts/seeds - there's a carb counter for nuts on the spreadsheet too (and when I get round to it, I'll do one for seeds. Again, go easy. While they're very good for us, they can get carby very quickly as they're so moreish.

Chocolate - aim for a minimum of 70% cocoa. You'll be surprised - if you've been avoiding sweet things for a while - at how easy it is to enjoy higher cocoa content chocolate. It's also actually good for us too. Lindt make a good 90% chocolate, but I prefer one that Sainsbury's sell, in their Taste the Difference range, which is a Ugandan one - https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-ugandan-90-dark-chocolate-taste-the-difference-100g

2 squares of this is very satisfying.

Alcohol - be very careful here. Partly because you'll find it has more of an effect on you if you're not eating carbs, and partly because once you start drinking you'll suddenly find yourself easily able to justify those crisps! But mainly because a) there can be a lot of carbs in it; b) all the time you're drinking alcohol, this is the source of fuel that your body will be using, rather than fat and c) even if you choose a spirit which has no carbs in it, chances are you'll be drinking it with an artificially sweetened mixer - and remember we're trying to avoid the artificial sweeteners.

Sorry to hear about the job @lastchancesalmon

lastchancesalmon · 29/05/2024 09:39

Thank you @BIWI and @mimosa1 - I am trying to see the positive side of having got interviews at least - it's all good experience 😊

PunksVersusBrats · 29/05/2024 15:38

🤞 for the next one @lastchancesalmon.

Half Term is turning out to be a battle of wills, food-wise, although I'm proud to say that I haven't given in. Teen snacking - arghhh! I have one who is very underweight (genetics, according to doctors) so eats whenever and whatever they fancy and one who is a healthy bmi and is just growing at a ridiculous rate. Constant toast(ies), noodles, smoothies, fruit, it feels endless.

I had a good medical appointment this morning, with my efforts showing on the scales and through my blood pressure but the temptation to 'reward' myself afterwards is strong 🙈

Instead I've got a Babybel and a coffee with cream and I'm rocking in the corner humming 'We Shall Overcome.' ☕️🧀

BIWI · 29/05/2024 17:39

And you will overcome! Grin

PunksVersusBrats · 29/05/2024 18:05

Thanks @BIWI, I was starting to waver and consider egg on toast but I have girded my loins and will KOKO 😁

I've not had nearly enough water this week, which I'm sure is at the root of it.

UnOeufIsEnough · 29/05/2024 18:09

Good job @PunksVersusBrats 💪💪

I set myself a goal in February to lose two stone before going away next week. As of this morning, I've lost 27lb so I'm willing one more pound off before next Thursday!

Wallywobbles · 29/05/2024 18:14

Bloody good job @UnOeufIsEnough

UnOeufIsEnough · 29/05/2024 18:17

Thanks @Wallywobbles! My weight fluctuates hugely throughout the month so it's been really helpful to track it daily so focusing on the downward trend rather than the individual daily weight.

I've got loads to lose so after I come back, I'll need to set a new goal! Smile

PunksVersusBrats · 29/05/2024 18:30

That is bloody impressive @UnOeufIsEnough! 👏🥳👏🥳👏

TheOnlyMrsW · 29/05/2024 18:41

Well done @PunksVersusBrats & @UnOeufIsEnough good on you for the willpower and losses! Slightly more of an appetite today so I had some of the vegetables and chorizo with two poached eggs for brunch, about to put pie in the oven for dinner. Slowcooker beef, mushrooms and bacon lardons ready cooked from the freezer with cauliflower mash, and buttered broccoli on the side, can't believe we're still having "winter" dinners at the end of May. I've got salad in the fridge that needs to be eaten but no desire at all to go anywhere near it which is making me cross because I hate waste. I find it much easier to stay on plan if things are calm and planned, bad weather, lots of mess (admittedly self-inflicted as a result of the weekend) tends to send me into a bit of a spin which then leads to a case of the fuckits. Can't remember who coined that phrase from (I think) the last BC but it's scarily apt sometimes

SpellitwithaY · 29/05/2024 19:34

Another good day here. Very impressed with Unoeuf and your loss to date!

B ffgy and cream
L Chicken and salad
D chicken a sausage and more salad

Going to break out some chicken thighs and do like a creamy bacon mushroomy thing for dinner tomorrow! Not being too adventurous just yet just getting my head in the game.

MissBeck · 29/05/2024 20:36

Evening all,
Finished my taxi-ing duties for my daughter. Now I can eat!!

@TheOnlyMrsW Sorry to hear your still not feeling too good, but appetite is coming back.

@PunksVersusBrats I hear you with the teenager snacking. My 15 year old just doesn't stop eating, but in fads (Autistic). She's into something new each week!

@UnOeufIsEnough Bloody hell, that is fantastic!! Well done! 👏

I have a gammon steak under the grill, and I'll do 2 fried eggs and mushrooms with it. Oh, how I'd love to slap 2 or 3 pineapple rings on it as well! Luckily I haven't got any!! 😁

BIWI · 29/05/2024 23:21

Amazing @UnOeufIsEnough - really well done Flowers

I’ve allowed myself two squares of chocolate (not quite high enough coco content though) but am pleased that I wasn’t craving more. It’s been hard with cake, scones and nice bread in the house but I’m resisting. Inspired by @UnOeufIsEnough and laughing at Instead I've got a Babybel and a coffee with cream and I'm rocking in the corner humming 'We Shall Overcome.' ☕️🧀because those are my ‘treats’ for now!

NotDonna · 30/05/2024 01:52

@UnOeufIsEnough that’s a flipping great loss, we’ll done you!
@PunksVersusBrats I too have a skinny one - she was referred to ED clinic 2 years ago but it seems she’s no issues just picky, little appetite and just incredibly underweight. I’m constantly feeding her lots of very high fat, high carb, high calorie foods! And quite a lot of high sugar stuff too. Absolutely surrounded by temptation! So I feel your pain. We shall indeed overcome!
@TheOnlyMrsW i cook lettuce! Tbf only tried iceberg in a pan with butter and not for too long. So it’s warmed through rather than cooked per se. It’s actually ok. I have been to posh restaurants who char a wedge too. But fried in butter is best!

Busy with DD2 having surgery so missed bfast (usual for me) and lunch, annoyingly. Dinner around 8pm and had HUGE portion of chicken, courgettes, pepper, green beans, pesto & cheese. Definitely made up for missing lunch. Unfortunately not enough water though so need to really up that and ensure I have a bottle with me when out and about.

slummymummy35 · 30/05/2024 07:14

Hi I everyone, I'm loving reading all your posts and I be started following the low carb bootcamp rules. I know it's probably too late to join in properly but I just wanted to let you all know how helpful this thread is! Thanks!

Only on week one but I'm planning to do full low carb until mid June then lite at the weekends. Loving this way of eating so far.

Would it be ok if I stuck around and posted from time to time? I think I would find it really helpful! Thanks

NotDonna · 30/05/2024 07:56

Welcome @slummymummy35 I think it is ‘more the merrier’ here! And definitely the place to come with queries.

Pleaseandthankyou · 30/05/2024 07:59

Really well done @UnOeufIsEnough . That is a great achievement.have a great holiday. You must be feeling the benefits.

UnOeufIsEnough · 30/05/2024 08:02

Thanks everyone

I can wholeheartedly say it's down to @BIWI's rules! I really appreciate all the work that you've put into this. I've not added in extra exercise but I've stuck to the rules 90% of the time, which is unusual for me!

I've got another (at least) 2 stone to go so I've got my sights set on Christmas for my next target! 😊

headstone · 30/05/2024 08:07

I have had a stomach bug so missed two days low carbing but back again today. 1 kg down only 15 more to go 😂. I a always seem to pick up more bugs when loosing weight which is a shame.

MissBeckIsAtWork · 30/05/2024 08:49

Morning all!

@slummymummy35 Welcome! I'm normally @MissBeck but couldn't remember my log in details at work. 😂

@headstone Glad you've bounced back!

I have the office to myself today and tomorrow, and then have booked next week off as it's my B'day Saturday and I really need to sort my garden out, so with my work birthday collection, I'll be buying new garden tools and attacking it with a vengeance!

Currently chomping on cheese. 🧀

BIWI · 30/05/2024 08:53

You're very welcome @slummymummy35!

@slummymummy35 Welcome Flowers

People often jump in after Boot Camp has started. As long as you follow the strict Rules for your 1st 2 weeks, you'll be fine Smile

We're all here for support Flowers

I was up a pound this morning Blush - but far from being disheartened, I'm reminded to drink yet more water today Smile and avoid the almonds Blush

I'd already made the decision to change my mindset and give myself the target of an average of only 1lb/week between now and Christmas. That would be 2st ShockHalo. May actually decide at 1.5st down that I'm happy where I've got to, but I'd see when I get under 11st.

We've got no holidays planned this year because dh is expecting to be called for his hip replacement any day (which means we're living in limbo) but we do want to go to Oz in March for my cousin's wedding (which even better will be in a winery Grin), so that's a good target.

lastchancesalmon · 30/05/2024 09:56

@UnOeufIsEnough well done that is seriously inspiring.

Went to the theatre in London last night - such a long time since I've done that and it was so fun! Teens chose an Italian restaurant so it was another chicken Caesar salad for me - I'm going to look like one soon. I also ordered aubergine parmagiana but by the time it came DD2 had finished her salad and decided she was still hungry so she ate it 😂 - she eats LCHF all the time so I have company but I hadn't banked on competition! Good result though that she enjoyed it and is up for making it at home. Today they have a huge crowd of friends descending for a sleepover so need to get ready for that.

slummymummy35 · 30/05/2024 10:22

Thanks everyone! I'm totally inspired by you all and the amazing resources @BIWI has created. Todays plan is
B egg cheese spring onion and chicken muffins;
L chicken thigh and salad and mayo
D fillet steak; creamy mushroom sauce and asparagus Grin
