Week 3 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Light or full-on?!

BIWI · 27/05/2024 08:43

Morning all.

This week sees the opportunity to add back into your diet fruit, nuts and seeds, chocolate and alcohol, by moving to Bootcamp Light.

HOWEVER!

All of the above in moderation.

Fruit - keep the focus on berries, and don't go mad by having lots of it, regularly. As with veg, there's a carb counter on the spreadsheet which you can use - just look at how few fruits are in the green section!

Nuts/seeds - there's a carb counter for nuts on the spreadsheet too (and when I get round to it, I'll do one for seeds. Again, go easy. While they're very good for us, they can get carby very quickly as they're so moreish.

Chocolate - aim for a minimum of 70% cocoa. You'll be surprised - if you've been avoiding sweet things for a while - at how easy it is to enjoy higher cocoa content chocolate. It's also actually good for us too. Lindt make a good 90% chocolate, but I prefer one that Sainsbury's sell, in their Taste the Difference range, which is a Ugandan one - https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-ugandan-90-dark-chocolate-taste-the-difference-100g

2 squares of this is very satisfying.

Alcohol - be very careful here. Partly because you'll find it has more of an effect on you if you're not eating carbs, and partly because once you start drinking you'll suddenly find yourself easily able to justify those crisps! But mainly because a) there can be a lot of carbs in it; b) all the time you're drinking alcohol, this is the source of fuel that your body will be using, rather than fat and c) even if you choose a spirit which has no carbs in it, chances are you'll be drinking it with an artificially sweetened mixer - and remember we're trying to avoid the artificial sweeteners.

The Benefits of Having a Healthy Relationship with Chocolate

Are you and chocolate on the outs? It may be time to make amends. Find out how having a balanced relationship with chocolate may be good for your overall health.

Good to read about everyone's day! We needed up going to Ikea, which could have been a disaster on a bank holiday but we didn't get there until after 3pm and it wasn't too busy. Got a few bits for our new garden studio and fripperies for the teens.
L - 2 sausages cooked in the air fryer (a revelation to me) with spinach wilted in butter and a fried egg
D - Ikea gravadlax and salad bowl plus 12 meatballs (possibly not that low carb, but no chips, peas or lingonberries so I'm pleased with myself)
Late night snack cos dinner was so early - cold chicken with mayo and little gem lettuce, last few anchovies and olives to eat up.

Not enough water due to IKEA activity but not a bad day.

Tomorrow I'm running around with half term errands - me and DD2 getting our hair cut in the morning and then immediate turnaround when we get home to pick up DD1 and all go to the dentist. Will probably get a Pret salad to eat on the train home as DD will find that a nice half term treat or if I'm really organised in the morning I could make myself something... we'll see 😉

Goodiewhemper · 28/05/2024 06:13

Good morning. I am adding my weight a day late. I stayed the same this week which I am happy enough with as I did cheat a bit for DD's 21st birthday. As I was on BC light for the past two weeks the plan is to switch it around and go full BC for this week and possibly next as well. I really want to get below 77kg this week. I have just had a coffee with cream and I am in the process of preparing a beef stew in the slow cooker for later. Breakfast will be my usual green shake and lunch is left over asparagus frittata from last night with some salad.

Have a great day all.

Baystard · 28/05/2024 06:54

I wobbled over the weekend (understatement - more of a swan dive off the wagon) but I'm slinking back in today.

What I did learn was valuable though, I ate some things that I expected to really enjoy because I used to enjoy them, but which were actually pretty horrible (UPF).

Relieved to be back on it today.

NotDonna · 28/05/2024 07:13

@PunksVersusBrats I forgot to say that I also add ginger, garlic & a splash of soy to the Vietnamese wraps along with a teeny bit of chilli & fish sauce.

NotDonna · 28/05/2024 07:16

@Bootcamp272 ive added your weight to the spread sheet - you’re down 2.2lbs this week and 5.8lbs overall 👏🏻 Enjoy Centre Parcs!

Superstar, thanks 🙏

mimosa1 · 28/05/2024 08:46

1.6kg ON - in only 4 days. Easily done, I know, aaargh. I know why (and wasn't complaining when the weight fell off easily in week 1 so...)

Anyway, I've made myself a luscious breakfast of a sausage sandwich in a SLC roll so I won't be hungry and back on the wagon it is.

I have a tonne of work travel coming up plus a long planned weekend with girlfriends next weekend in Italy so it's tricky but that's all excuses, I know.

Well done all for the losses, really inspiring.

LilianaVikavanovich · 28/05/2024 09:41

I swan dived too @Baystard it was the village agricultural show , weather was lovely … what could be better than sitting on a straw bale watching ponies ( and drinking wine ) with good friends and glorious sunshine

Very pleased to have lost 3lb

TheOnlyMrsW · 28/05/2024 11:08

So as well as muddy boots, a boatload of washing and an extra 1/2lb I appear to have also brought a cold back with me from not-so-sunny Lincolnshire! Will probably help me out with weight loss as I've no appetite at all and constantly thirsty so topping up on water and herbal tea as it's so cold!!!!

Nothing so far today as I'm a fairly regular IF'er, did make loads of spinach, peppers, tomato and chorizo fried in butter yesterday so have that option for lunch if I actually want to eat. Dinner for the carbies is chilli tacos, I have salad and roast pork (again if I'm hungry).

Really busy work week ahead, plus we're about to have roof work starting so need to empty our eaves. Also cover everything in the attic room with dust sheets so that should keep me out of the fridge! Possibly a cinema trip and lunch with DD on Friday which will be either Pizza Express or Nando's so need to plan round that............adore that girl but one thing I won't miss in September is the limited food choices!!!!!

BIWI · 28/05/2024 11:58

TBF, Nandos is usually good for low carbing, and if you go on their website, they show the nutritional info for all their dishes

Yes, Pizza Express not so good. Last time I went I had the aubergine in tomato sauce and cheese thing and it was awful, dry and chewy. I'd go for salad with no bread next time.

Glorianna · 28/05/2024 12:25

Morning all,

I'm seeing results from cutting out the snacks, with a 1lb loss, which I'm happy with. I have a good breakfast (2 large eggs omelette with feta and mushrooms, 1 avo, 1 chicken sausage (1.5g carb per 100g), broccoli and a coffee with cream.

And then have refrained from my go-to snack of nuts or cheese. I was having a small Kind bar every day pre-bootcamp, but don't miss them now.

Oh yes, their aubergine parmigiana is not good at all. I have a feeling they plonk on the aubergines without frying or grilling them first.

Glorianna · 28/05/2024 12:31

Speaking of aubergines, I'm very intrigued by this Azerbaijani Aubergine dish, stuffed with a sort of keema.

Week 3 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Light or full-on?!
alwaysonadiet1 · 28/05/2024 12:59

Half term is proving to be a test of willpower. So far I've already been roped in to help make chocolate brownies and vanilla cupcakes! I don't mind really. I'd rather make make them than buy the upf versions in the shops.

SpellitwithaY · 28/05/2024 14:49

Hey so off to a good start today.

B. Ffgy + cream and a few strawberries chopped in
L - salad, smoked salmon, cheese and roasted broccoli, mayo

Dinner will be roasted chicken with salad.

I also have X2 sausages if really hungry (v low carb ones) and I brought cream for my coffees! Glugging back water but probably not enough. Will redouble my efforts...

SpellitwithaY · 28/05/2024 21:29

Oh no! Did I break the thread!!! Oooooops lol 😆

prettybird · 28/05/2024 21:42

No you didn't @SpellitwithaY

The water really does make a difference SmileFlowers - so go and have another glass! Wink

I was very Halo this afternoon: my Dobbies card had "given" me two coffees and cakes as a birthday treat, but I had to use the voucher by the end of May. Dh didn't fancy going so I took ds' girlfriend with me. She had a cake and we got an Empire Biscuit for her to take home for ds. Halo

I used the opportunity to buy some veg plants, herbs and bedding plants (really should have grown them myself but I hadn't got my finger out early enough Blush) Now I just need to make sure I plant them out Grin

UnOeufIsEnough · 28/05/2024 21:53

A busy day here but mostly on plan (more water needed)!

Eggs and creamy coffee for breakfast with a mushroom crustless quiche for lunch. We had roast chicken with a big salad and feta for dinner.

Our building work continues so it's tricky to stay focused. The weather has been so rubbish that they haven't been able to go through the roof and use the scaffolding so they're needing to access things through the house. Chaos!

MissBeck · 28/05/2024 23:21

Quick check in as had a blue arsed fly day! Visitors only just gone home. Will catch up and read tomorrow.
B: Coffee with DC and cheese
L: 2 cold sausages and coleslaw
D: 2 x Lamb steaks, coleslaw and mushrooms
More Coffee with DC
ALL the water!

lastchancesalmon · 28/05/2024 23:45

Well you won't be surprised that I had a Pret salad instead of making my own lunch 😂

B - 2 x Courtado coffees at the hairdresser- not as good as a creamy one but very little milk
L - Pret Italian Chicken Salad
D - a slightly made up version of the Diet Doctor Chicken Cauliflower Alfredo using up lots of scraps of things in the fridge which as we know scores extra points
S - peanuts and a few glasses of wine
Finding half term and being at home a bit harder than work days, plus I found out today I didn't get a job I've been interviewing for, so will have to go back to work!
KOKO

I think it's time for another challenge!

This week, delicious low carb recipes for mince please! Can be beef, pork, turkey, etc - any kind of lovely recipe.

I'm making cheeseburger pie on Saturday which is what prompted the thought. I have a tired repertoire of mince recipes and could do with something new.

We do pork meat balls, rolled in spices and cooked in the oven. Served with ratatouille. Kids have pasta. I don't.

TheOnlyMrsW · 29/05/2024 08:36

Water absolutely does make a difference, pretty much more than anything else (for me anyway). Already only just below where I was after week 1 after 2 days back.
Still feel snotty and grotty but at least I only have one more load of washing to get dry (and tackle my boots).
Not sure about food today, genuinely don't feel like eating but know I should so will ponder after a cup of tea......definitely think I'll try to talk DD into Nandos later in the week

mimosa1 · 29/05/2024 08:39

Sorry to hear about the job @lastchancesalmon - hopefully something better will turn up soon. I know the feeling though!

Scales moving in the right direction again, but it's SUCH a disheartening faff to go back to where I was (better than keeping on gaining though) so hopefully it will be good inspiration for the girlie weekend I've got planned.
