Morning all!

I see a few have braved the spreadsheet already, and some nice results coming in Smile

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_zdJLFAioyDd3ePLj7Tg5HnIu6E8JbdmsVyqP28Xsak/edit#gid=1892381976

I love this week because it's so often a (lovely) surprise for so many - especially anyone who hasn't low carbed before.

I have noted several lapses already, however! Remember, this WOE isn't very forgiving, so it is really important that you don't cheat. (Hospital stays etc are clearly something you can't do anything about, however).

But let's put last week behind us, and focus on a good, strict, week ahead, before we move on to Bootcamp Light.

We've been invited to friends' this evening, for a music night (choosing an album from '1001 albums you must hear before you die' - a bit like a book club). It's pizza night, apparently, so I've made the shallot and Gruyère tart from the recipe thread to take for us.

Here's to a good week Flowers

I’ve noticed my tummy making lots of funny noises lately - is this a common thing? I’m not hungry and it’s not the same kind of noise as when I am, more like gurgling 🤷🏻‍♀️

PunksVersusBrats · 21/05/2024 20:18

I'm the same @OpalTiger, I think it's all the water 🙈

Another no-wobble day:
B - yoghurt and cream
L - ham, cheese, boiled egg, salad and sour cream dip
D - soy sauce baked salmon and roasted veg
After-work munchies - 2x Babybel
Water - 2L 🥳

Gingerwarthog · 21/05/2024 20:26

@prettybird
Glad to hear it's healing.
Still 10'9 - eating yoghurt, salad and drinking tons of water. Hoping it will come off in one large gulp at some point.

Is that what they mean by a 'whoosh'?

Gingerwarthog · 21/05/2024 20:30

I think so @MissBeck !
Have been pretty good with the exercise too (hiking/ swimming) so fingers crossed again for a better result later in the week.

😮I don't do any exercise! I did Jan-April on my Wii Fit, but then stopped when I fell off the low carb wagon! 😂😂

Had Bootcamp this morning ( the actual one in a gym! ) was a challenge ,
No breakfast as I don’t like to eat before going to the gym , had an early Lunch of tuna salad , tinned in sunflower oil , then dinner tonight was pork fillet ( a bit disappointing , quite chewy ) with lots of stirfied greens and a creamy mushroom sauce
Went for a walk , then put all my indoor plants on the patio , did some repotting , cutting off of leaves and thought they’d have a nice shower in the rain that’s been forecast , but we’re still waiting , off to get the watering can

lastchancesalmon · 21/05/2024 22:08

@MissBeck I agree - it's pretty quiet 🤷‍♀️

Got bored of leftovers tonight so I defrosted a portion of chilli and had that over leaves and 1/2 an avocado with cheese and crème fraiche on top. I am struggling a bit with the water. Easily managing 2 litres but struggling to reach my 3.4 target. I think maybe not enough in the moment (sipping coffee).

BIWI · 21/05/2024 22:13

A whoosh is what we call a sudden drop in weight, usually around 3lbs in one go, typically after a few days of no loss

I've noticed that quite a few people haven't updated the spreadsheet yet. If you've decided not to continue, please could you let us know?

DrBlackbird · 22/05/2024 00:26

I’ve been at work and probably had less than a litre of water today. Must do better tomorrow. That soya salmon sounds lovely. Too tired for anything but an omelette tonight, but took leftovers to work for lunch and avoided the sandwiches and crisps. Felt v virtuous 😇

Goodiewhemper · 22/05/2024 05:44

Hi everyone, I have been absent from the board pretty much since BC started. I had a D&C and polyp removal the Friday before we started and had a bit of a tough time after followed by developing orbital cellulitis which was horrendous.

I did well to stick reasonably well with BC light and even though I was mostly bed bound I did manage a small loss. I am back to work and keeping on light and getting some movement and walking in. I am staying on light for this week but might go hard next week.

@prettybird from your post up thread I see you suffered a burn injury. That sounds so painful - hope you are recovering well. I hope everyone else is doing well.

I have just had a coffee with cream and plan to have my usual shake with avocado, cucumber, kake and mint with a slice of the low carb bread (Low Carb Londoner's recipe) for proper breakfast later. Lunch is roasted veg soup and two booked eggs. Dinner will be sea bass with buttered leeks and baby corn. Have a great day everyone.

Baystard · 22/05/2024 06:40

That sounds horrific @Goodiewhemper, hope you're on the mend. Flowers
Good to hear you're getting better @prettybird, with all that lavender oil you must smell marvellous Grin
No rain here either @LilianaVikavanovich, in spite of it threatening to all day - I didn't dare put out laundry but then still had to water the garden.

Yesterday I planted out the sweet peas so I'm anxiously waiting to find out if they're OK this morning (one year when I put them out they were all eaten overnight).

Today's job is to make mayonnaise. When I do I invariably think "oh, how easy it is, I can't believe I don't always make my own". And then I add another jar to the shop! I made egg mayonnaise for lunch yesterday (with toasted LC bread) and might have the same again today.

alwaysonadiet1 · 22/05/2024 08:42

I had a lovely sports day picnic planned with chicken drumsticks, Caesar salad and quails' eggs but it is pouring with rain and sports day is cancelled ... hey ho.

NigellaAwesome · 22/05/2024 09:20

My plan for dinner tonight is pan fried salmon with green veg and hollandaise sauce, baby potatoes for the others.

I'm still at hospital - we are doing 12 hour shifts sitting with our relative, and I have just braved the hospital canteen for breakfast. Sausage, bacon, scrambled egg. I suspect the sausage has carbs and the scrambled egg probably made with lots of milk. Does anyone have any ideas for snacks / food I can take with me? There is no fridge, so rollitos or baby cheeses aren't that practical. I just packed a bag of snack carrots on the way out last night, but not ideal.

EveryonesFavouriteNumber · 22/05/2024 09:22

Ooft, getting through an airport when you don't have time to stop at a restaurant and need to grab something for lunch and your flight is tricky - everything is sandwich based and loads of the salads aren't ok. Got a pret tuna Nicoise for the flight but caved for lunch. Felt so guilty after. Ugh.

lastchancesalmon · 22/05/2024 09:29

@NigellaAwesome how about an avocado (you can cut it and then put back together/sprinkle with lemon to stop going brown) that you can eat with a spoon from the shell. Hard boiled eggs. A really simple packed breakfast which would be ok out of the fridge for a while is smoked salmon, hard boiled egg and spinach.
I've just started a thread about portable low carb food on the receipe board and included my frittata 'recipe' which works well too.

For snacks I also have bags of jerky in my cupboard (check pack carefully as lots have sugar, I like the Ember one.)

crosspatchdownthehatch · 22/05/2024 09:38

Morning! Another half a pound off.

I made A LOT of homemade pizza for others yesterday and had ne’er a bite.

I was going to make cauliflower pizza but couldn’t be bothered and instead made cauliflower rice stir fried with some of Lidl’s chopped smoked ham which I really recommend, just a sprinkling adds tons of flavour and an egg. Then butter lettuce and tomato with tarragon vinaigrette.

going to make some mushrooms ham and eggs shortly.

Then some baked savoy Cabbage with salmon later and the hopeful plan is to start some savoy sauerkraut too.

Black coffee and water all the way. Planted up some spearmint yesterday as apparently spearmint tea amazing for skin? I will report back.

UnOeufIsEnough · 22/05/2024 09:55

@Goodiewhemper sending a big hug. It sounds like you're having a horrendous time

@NigellaAwesome maybe the SRSLY low carb rolls might be good for this? Or olives, pickles, salami?

@crosspatchdownthehatch your baked cabbage sounds lovely. Do you cut it into wedges?

Our building work has started and although I'm really excited, I'm struggling to concentrate! Made the cardinal sin of not putting out biscuits for the builder yesterday as I'm so out of the habit of eating them Blush

somanylights · 22/05/2024 11:53

@Goodiewhemper goodness, that sounds so tough, and you've done so well to stick to it. I hope you keep recovering well.

@BIWI your tart sounds amazing...I'll be making that when we can eat nuts again! I saw a dip in the shops the other day which I'll try making when seeds are back on the menu: raw garlic, oil, ground flaxseed, salt, lemon juice, cayenne. Will report back if it's any good!

@Baystard or any other mayo-makers...I've never made it; are there any tips or fool proof recipes, or is it really a case of just follow any recipe online?

@EveryonesFavouriteNumber I got caught out at Heathrow recently; the choice at an airport really opens your eyes as to what's seen as normal food these days. I ended up spending about £6 on mini cathedral city bars (and felt like an idiot...!).

somanylights · 22/05/2024 11:54

Can I also please ask, what is butter lettuce? I've seen it mentioned a few times.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 22/05/2024 12:53

Struggling a bit on the way back to low carb after a week away. I felt hungry and tired this morning so:

Water and dog walk

B: boiled egg with 3 stalks of asparagus (boiled for 2 mins) lemon juice and butter.
coffee with cream
More water.

Feeling better - satisfied/not-deprived and more able to deal with the day ahead.

Lunch
probably salmon and sprouts (I think the weather is too dismal for planned ham salad) or cauliflower and roasted garlic soup

Dinner
curried chicken with a side of leeks and cabbage with butter

@BIWI your cheese and onion tart sounds amazing!

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 22/05/2024 12:55

somanylights · 22/05/2024 11:54

Can I also please ask, what is butter lettuce? I've seen it mentioned a few times.

I think it is a 'breed' of lettuce - one with soft round shape and mild leaves.

BIWI · 22/05/2024 13:01

@Goodiewhemper I had to Google 'orbital cellulitis' - OMG that sounds awful. I'm amazed you managed to stick to any kind of plan actually!

@somanylights this is butter lettuce
