Week 2 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

Morning all!

I see a few have braved the spreadsheet already, and some nice results coming in Smile

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_zdJLFAioyDd3ePLj7Tg5HnIu6E8JbdmsVyqP28Xsak/edit#gid=1892381976

I love this week because it's so often a (lovely) surprise for so many - especially anyone who hasn't low carbed before.

I have noted several lapses already, however! Remember, this WOE isn't very forgiving, so it is really important that you don't cheat. (Hospital stays etc are clearly something you can't do anything about, however).

But let's put last week behind us, and focus on a good, strict, week ahead, before we move on to Bootcamp Light.

We've been invited to friends' this evening, for a music night (choosing an album from '1001 albums you must hear before you die' - a bit like a book club). It's pizza night, apparently, so I've made the shallot and Gruyère tart from the recipe thread to take for us.

Here's to a good week Flowers

2.2kg off im so pleased! Especially as I've snuck into the 70s at 79.4kg. Hopefully I can use it as motivation as I've got a long weekend in Paris with all the family for the long weekend coming up...

I'm really struggling with breakfast. FFGYoghurt just doesn't fill me up and I don't love eggs every day. Any ideas?

How about something like bacon and mushrooms? Or a continental breakfast of cheese and ham? Or just leftovers from the night before! Doesn't have to be a specific food just because it's breakfast.

Moaning is what these threads are for @EasilyDefined!!!

I know it's difficult if you have specific needs/conditions to deal with - but doesn't it also make you realise just how ingrained carbohydrate is in the modern British diet? A million miles away from the traditional 'meat + 2 veg + potatoes' that we would have been eating in the post-war years, before pasta and rice (and pizza) became so popular.

I was surprised - very pleasantly and will recheck the scales later - as to how it’d be possible to lose weight eating all the cheese I wanted (and cream and butter) when these have been ‘bad’ foods in my mind forever.

Mostly have been quite strict about low carbs and even turned down the offer of a chip from DHs plate last night sticking to just the steak, mushrooms and cheesy asparagus. Big thanks to whoever posted that recipe.

Looking forward to next week however when a glass of rose can be back on the menu ;-)

DrBlackbird · 20/05/2024 12:08

The menu advice and suggestions are invaluable. HUGE thanks to @BIWI to organising and all the menu contributors 💐

BIWI · 20/05/2024 12:09

This is why I love this week so much @DrBlackbird - for all those posters who keep going despite believing it won't work! It feels like a real leap of faith, doesn't it, when we've been told for so many years that fat is the baddy.

I also meant to say that I was going to stay on full Boot Camp for an extra 5 days to make up for my aberration on my wedding anniversary Smile

lastchancesalmon · 20/05/2024 13:25

So pleased to see a 5lb loss for the first week (and I can feel it in my waistbands already too). Finding the BBQ season a help - we cooked a leg of lamb and some chicken thighs yesterday and I made Greek salad to go with, then easy lunch to bring to school today of leftover chicken and salad. Plan for tonight is rare beef (airfrying a little joint that was reduced on my grocery shop) and the others are having chips but I've got leftover cheesy leeks from earlier in the week to reheat, which should go really well with that. Doing well with water during the week but came up short at the weekend so need to make more of an effort with that. I do have to bring lunch every day this week because apparently it's British Sandwich Week and the caterers are using that an excuse to serve something in bread 3 days on the trot. 🙄

I like avocado vinaigrette for breakfast. I like vinegar or lemon juice to cut through the richness of high fat food.

alwaysonadiet1 · 20/05/2024 14:06

Also smoked salmon with capers and lemon juice

FairlyOddmother · 20/05/2024 14:13

I've done LC before, and I know it works, but I was amazed to see I've lost SEVEN pounds in week one!!

Not expecting much from week 2, but I'm inspired to be super strict. Off to refill my water bottle, lol

Thanks again BIWI and all the organisers, I'm over the moon!

mimosa1 · 20/05/2024 15:58

Thanks for the bfast suggestions, @biwi and @always on a diet. I'll give them a try x

Gingerwarthog · 20/05/2024 16:46

Up 1lb??
How?
Have been good all week apart from the rose so a bit miffed

MissBeck · 20/05/2024 17:03

Afternoon all,
I meant to post first thing this morning after weighing, but as reported last week, my manual scales are shoddy, and the needle sometimes sticks, so not convinced they are accurate, and definitely don't correspond with my daily weigh ins on my Wii Fit, so I've scrapped them!
So I've altered the sheet (without causing a catastrophy @prettybird )to what last monday should have been (although it does put me heavier than originally reported), but it now aligns with my diary.
So I was 157.41 (11 stone 3lbs) last week, and 152.34 (10 stone 12lbs) this morning which makes a loss of 5lbs!! Well chuffed!!

And congrats to everyone else!! There are some great losses already!! 👏

I normally don't count in pounds, so have to convert online, and just found this one which gives pounds, stones and kg in one go! Quite nifty (I'm easily pleased! 😂)

@Gingerwarthog Could it be your scales?? Mine were well dodgy this morning. Had a right game with them. They are now sacked!

Gingerwarthog · 20/05/2024 17:08

@MissBeck
I really hope so. Will weigh myself at work tomorrow and see if there's any change. Fingers crossed. I am not always the best at sticking to the rules but apart from the glass of rose it was salads and omelette all the way.

😟Maybe your original weigh in was off? Hopefully you'll find out tomorrow.

BIWI · 20/05/2024 17:19

It may well be your scales - but also you need to realise that it's not just the carbs in the wine. All the time you're drinking, that's the fuel that your body is using - it's the easiest source of fuel. So you're not burning anything else.

@MissBeck - good to "see" you on this Boot Camp and joining in so positively Flowers. I remember talking to you on the thread you started and telling you that you weren't too weird and encouraging you to join in officially Grin

@finallyhere is the spreadsheet monitor but just to let you know: there is already a pounds/stones/kilos convertor on one of the tabs on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Smile

BIWI · 20/05/2024 17:23

Has somebody deleted themselves from the spreadsheet? There's an empty row that's suddenly appeared! (Row 39, in with the 'j's)

Back from holiday in France and back on low carb today :)

Began the day with water
I had coffee and cream for breakfast
prawns with lemon juice and mayo and an avocado and water for lunch
tea with a splash of milk
Dinner will be olive oil baked herb and garlic chicken with a tray of olive oil baked veg (sprouts - baby sweetcorn - broccoli) - more water.

😮😮Oh God! Please don't let it be me that's messed it up! I only clicked the squares in my row, no-where else!

BIWI · 20/05/2024 17:48

No it's not you! Grin

@prettybird So sorry, mixed you both up! I saw the convertor on the tabs, but worried I'd mess the spreadsheet up. 😂That thing terrifies me!

I feel like a fraud because I'm another one who's also just had surgery (last saturday), so my initial weight was falsely elevated. I reckon I've lost a pound tho (compared with pre-surgery weight), which is great because I've been doing this since March, and have plateaued for quite a few weeks recently.

Was my child's birthday this week, and had to bake 2 cakes, and didn't have any. Ate far too much mascarpone to compensate tho (I can't get nice fresh cream where I am, but I've found a delicious 0% carb mascarpone, which I'm far too fond of...).

Am loving the support in this group, and all the food ideas!

OpalTiger · 20/05/2024 19:32

Just finished my dinner - trout with a big salad and my new favourite dish - @BIWI ’s coleslaw! I’ve had it just about every day since you posted the recipe 😋

Lunch was leftover soup from yesterday with cottage cheese (that’s permitted, right?) and snacks was olives with cheese. Loving this WOE!
