Week 2 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

Morning all!

I see a few have braved the spreadsheet already, and some nice results coming in Smile

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_zdJLFAioyDd3ePLj7Tg5HnIu6E8JbdmsVyqP28Xsak/edit#gid=1892381976

I love this week because it's so often a (lovely) surprise for so many - especially anyone who hasn't low carbed before.

I have noted several lapses already, however! Remember, this WOE isn't very forgiving, so it is really important that you don't cheat. (Hospital stays etc are clearly something you can't do anything about, however).

But let's put last week behind us, and focus on a good, strict, week ahead, before we move on to Bootcamp Light.

We've been invited to friends' this evening, for a music night (choosing an album from '1001 albums you must hear before you die' - a bit like a book club). It's pizza night, apparently, so I've made the shallot and Gruyère tart from the recipe thread to take for us.

Here's to a good week Flowers

Agreed, I lost 5lb in my first week, even with a couple of 'mishaps' 😳 but I know from past experience of Fast800 that every lb from this point on is going to have to be fought for. Nothing showing on the scales so far this week, despite being really disciplined, but I'm playing the long game this time.

B - yoghurt and cream
L - pickled fish salad
D - goat's cheese wrapped in ham and sauteed veg
Munchies - Babybel x 2 (can't wait for nuts instead!)
Water - 2L 🤩

BIWI · 23/05/2024 19:15

The other thing to remember @Bex5490 - this isn't a competition! Everyone loses at a different rate.

@PunksVersusBrats pickled fish ? In a salad? That sounds unusual. What's it like?

PunksVersusBrats · 23/05/2024 20:27

It's herring, from Sainsbury's @mimosa1. The marinade does have some sugar in it, but it's in oil and not vinegar. I chop up one fillet (about 60-70g) to have with cheese and salad. Keeps for weeks in the fridge in a tight container, so handy for days when I need to shop, or the kids have done a locust on the fridge.

I’m trying to upload onto the spreadsheet but I can’t seem to do it easily, maybe because I’m on an iPad?

anyway, it’s sort of going well but I had a huge sugar addiction which is hard to control. I’ll keep trying…

MissBeck · 23/05/2024 21:52

Good Evening all,

@Bex5490 I can only echo what everyone else has said. You've lost some already, so it's working! Not at the speed you want, but trust the process. I started low carb in January this year, and only this week have hit the 2 stone lost mark. My mate, who does slimming world and started a few weeks before I did has lost 4 stone 3lb, which is great, but she eats some right super processed shit! No thank you!!

@mimosa1 Hope you have a great trip!

Haven't had a good food day today. Not eaten anything wrong, just lack of it! Bad planning and all that.

B: Coffee and milk (My double cream had gone off 😩) & cheese
L: Scratchings
D1: beefburger (no bun) Was a quick bite to eat as played taxi for DD. Again!
D2: Mini ham and cheese omlette (Eating now!)

Had an omlette disaster though. I have a mini frying pan, just big enough for 2 fried eggs, so thought that will do for a tiny omlette. Well, it decided it was no longer non-stick didn't it, and my lovely omlette all burnt and stuck to the pan and broke into pieces!! Had to scrawp it out the pan and make do. 😡

@HelloDaisy - have you downloaded the Google Sheets app from the Apple Store? That might help. Otherwise, you could always post your weight here and someone will add it for you.

@BIWI - I just keep on forgetting to go on the laptop to enter my weight Blush

I'll try and remember tomorrow Blush

lastchancesalmon · 23/05/2024 23:06

Lovely treat when I got home, DM had cooked meatballs for DD1 so she'd done enough for everyone 😁

D - Meatballs in tomato sauce with salad leaves (and French dressing), ts broccoli roasted in butter and parmesan cheese on top - brilliant. Pretty much did the water today, just topping up with a herbal tea!

I'm planning for the weekend already. Meeting a friend for a walk and brunch on Saturday and she's suggested a cafe that has a great menu. Everything comes with toast but I'm going to say no thanks, and otherwise looks amazing eg scrambled eggs with creme fraiche and avocado and bacon (that's what I'm having!)

I'm hoping I can get coffee with cream - I find that so difficult to get. DD2 eats LCHF all the time and we've only just discovered that Costa have 'pouring cream' as a standard option, but otherwise it's hard to come by.

Then we are trying out my DSis's new rotisserie accessory for the BBQ with a whole chicken and I'm going to make Caesar salad and remoulade I think to go with it.

Bex5490 · 23/05/2024 23:13

Thanks @BIWI and @MissBeck was just having a moment as since Monday I’ve been the same weight but it’s all going in the right direction.

And sorry to hear about the scraped burnt omelette!

Bex5490 · 23/05/2024 23:16

@lastchancesalmon If ever you fancy a random dinner guest! 🙋🏽‍♀️

The sound of that bbq rotisserie chicken has me salivating! 😂

DrBlackbird · 23/05/2024 23:17

I’ve never eaten so many veg in my life but branching out beyond corn and peas has been quite eye opening. Free use of cheese has been the winning touch. The key is definitely planning. I was able to take packed lunch which was a lot of salad. If I haven’t planned then I’m tempted to just go for a piece of toast. It’s been surprisingly easy to say no to biscuits but looking forward to making some sort of almond tort. And nuts next week 🎉

FinallyHere · 24/05/2024 08:37

Coffee with creme is one of the pleasures of the way of eating for me. Cafe Nero does an espresso con panna "A double shot of our Classico espresso with whipped cream."

2.8g carb per product 3.0g / 100g

Which can't just be creme, can it? Maybe it means that the creme is sweetened

FinallyHere · 24/05/2024 08:43

Oops, pressed post too soon. I'm away for the weekend and finding good pretty easy to navigate, a mixture of M&S at fuel stations and good restaurants.

Meant to add with cafe Nero probably using sweetened creme, for 3g / 100g carb value, I buy a carton of double creme to add to espresso / americanos. Depending on the weather it can easily last the weekend, worse case I end up with clotted creme

DrBlackbird · 24/05/2024 09:16

I’d like to print out the 4 week plan in the spreadsheet but not familiar with google sheet, does anyone know if / how it can be printed out?

MissBeckIsAtWork · 24/05/2024 10:43

@DrBlackbird Not sure if you're on PC or phone. On PC, in the left hand corner at the top there is a file tab. When you click this it shows a dropdown menu, and at the bottom of there is a print option.

alwaysonadiet1 · 24/05/2024 11:49

For those who love pickles, Edmond Fallot cornichons (mini gherkins) are delicious and sugar free. I get them on Ocado.

lastchancesalmon · 24/05/2024 12:19

@Bex5490 thank you!
@alwaysonadiet1 great tip

TheOnlyMrsW · 24/05/2024 13:48

Pleasantly surprised to be 1/2 lbs down this morning, haven't been bad this week but not especially good either.....combination of totm when I'm not hungry anyway, v busy and unexpected car stress meant plans went out the window. Also not enough water or herbal tea.

Off to a festival this weekend ☔️🤣❄️ which are dire for lc anyway, and the forecast is going to make cooking difficult so am loaded up with rollitos, hardboiled eggs, baby babybels and pork scratchings. Will keep alcohol to a minimum but won't be completely dry, will keep to strict bc for another week when home (DD is working all next weekend so no opportunity for a glass of wine then!).

Have a lovely weekend all 😍

PunksVersusBrats · 24/05/2024 17:38

I knew that the lovers of all things pickled and fermented would eventually make themselves known 😁

If you haven't already tried them, let me introduce you to gherkin stuffed olives 😋

MissBeck · 24/05/2024 17:39

Well I only popped into my butchers for some Ham and ended up spending £60.00 on meat!! I am so spoilt for choice for my dinner now! 😂

Pleaseandthankyou · 24/05/2024 18:06

I was delighted to find you all last Saturday. I vanished without trace during the last boot camp. 5 pounds down this morning. I made a vat of Biwi’s Cole slaw and have been enjoying it. I have made a vow not to buy any new clothes this year and I have too many outfits straining at the waist so I intend to last longer than last time.

Pleaseandthankyou · 24/05/2024 18:11

To keep me from going astray I have just placed an order of low carb bread and wraps. I put them in the freezer and use them when I need something quick or portable.
Olives with gherkins, I need a jar of those .

PunksVersusBrats · 24/05/2024 19:13

The teens have had fish and chips for tea (half term tradition) and still I did not give in to temptation 🥳 It's quite sad how proud of myself I am. I'm distracting myself with a strong-smelling decaf coffee and cream, as the smell of hot vinegar wafts around the house 😣

B - yoghurt and cream
L - ham, goat's cheese with chives and salad
D - Paprika Prawns (old Fast800 recipe) and 2 Babybels

I also bought some Ketosis sticks to remind me that this is working, when I can't see it on the scales.
