Morning all!

I see a few have braved the spreadsheet already, and some nice results coming in Smile

I love this week because it's so often a (lovely) surprise for so many - especially anyone who hasn't low carbed before.

I have noted several lapses already, however! Remember, this WOE isn't very forgiving, so it is really important that you don't cheat. (Hospital stays etc are clearly something you can't do anything about, however).

But let's put last week behind us, and focus on a good, strict, week ahead, before we move on to Bootcamp Light.

We've been invited to friends' this evening, for a music night (choosing an album from '1001 albums you must hear before you die' - a bit like a book club). It's pizza night, apparently, so I've made the shallot and Gruyère tart from the recipe thread to take for us.

Here's to a good week Flowers

Thanks for the new thread, @BIWI. Marking my place!

We're about to embark on Day 1 of building work. The skip arrived just before 7am this morning.

I'm going to need to be really organised with food, I think, especially dinners as last time we did anything house-related, we ended up with convenience food and take aways!

poorbuthappy · 20/05/2024 08:22

Morning campers!
2lb off for me which is fabulous considering I'm a Jan starter.
Needed the kick up the arse last week which you lot so clearly provided.
Off to have poached eggs and mushrooms for breakfast.
Remember drink the water people!!!!

UnOeufIsEnough · 20/05/2024 08:29

How does your music night work, @BIWI? Do you listen to an album in full or highlights from a few? It sounds really fun!

BIWI · 20/05/2024 08:45

We've only had one so far - the person who chooses the album talks about why they chose it, then it's played (in full) and people talk about it if they wish. The album that was chosen last time was mainly music, only one track had lyrics, so mainly people just chatted with each other! Tonight's album will be different, so it will be interesting to see what people do. It's an album I've never heard, so I'm looking forward to that. It's Joni Mitchell ‘The Hissing of the Summer Lawns’. (1975)

Fab! We've done a Desert Island Disc night in the past, which was fun but I like the idea of listening to albums in full.

Enjoy!

TheOnlyMrsW · 20/05/2024 08:58

@BIWI that sounds great, it's something DH and I do every now and again (and then argue about who's taste is "best"!!!), thank you as well for another BC........
1.6lb down this week and it's been very hard to refuse alcohol on a busy sunny weekend with gigs but glad I've managed! Off to plan this week as it's another busy one and we're away Friday for the start to festival season 😍.

Blush I have lapsed, going to try and start again today. I do not find it at all easy with a family full of carb-munchers. I haven't had any breakfast, I really can't face carb-less breakfasts they all taste too greasy and rich for the time of day, but I know I do OK going straight through to lunch.

I'm surrounded by carb munchers too. It's not easy, but it's much easier when you're not hungry... the other day I ordered chicken Caesar salad in a restaurant and the others were having fries with their meals. I was jealous of the fries at first but once I'd had my salad and was full they didn't appeal any more and I was proud of myself so it does get easier. Once you see results on the scales that keeps you going too. Smile

Stowickthevast · 20/05/2024 09:19

Thanks for the new thread @BIWI . Love a bit of Joni, you're in for a treat.

I have a 1.7lb loss which I'm thankful for. Got a shock standing on the digital scales this morning when I seemed to have gained weight, but then got off and they were still reading 0.80 Kg so was very relieved! There's no reset button so no idea how to resolve it.

I had a Prosecco misdemeanour on Saturday night at an old friend's 50th. I'm drawing a line under it and focusing on being better this week. I may do an extra bootcamp week before progressing to light to make up for it. No more 50ths until 15 June so will not have temptation in my way.

I've just had some FFGY with cream for breakfast. Lunch is left over curry - saag paneer, brinjal bhaji and cauli rice. Not sure what supper will be but I'm going walking at 7.30 so may just have something light before I go like an egg. I won't feel like eating when I get back.

Good luck with week 2 everyone.

BIWI · 20/05/2024 09:19

... and also bear in mind that, if you're the one doing the cooking, that they get to eat what you are! The more you find yourself having to cook two different kinds of meals, the less likely you are to stick to this. It really won't hurt the rest of the family to have a few meals without the carbs.

UnOeufIsEnough · 20/05/2024 09:21

@Stowickthevast my digital scales reset if you press down on them until the screen blanks and then give them a quick press again.

No idea if it'll work with yours but worth a go? Grin

Stowickthevast · 20/05/2024 09:22

My family are also massive carb fans - a lot of bread and chips get eaten here @EasilyDefined @alwaysonadiet1 .

The thing I find hardest to resist is the fresh sourdough DH gets in on a Saturday. And mindlessly picking fries from the kids' plates 🙈

Stowickthevast · 20/05/2024 09:23

Thanks @UnOeufIsEnough - I'll give that a go.

OpalTiger · 20/05/2024 09:30

Thanks for starting this week’s thread! Very pleased to see 6lb off this week - I realise that’s likely going to mean less, if any, next week, which I’m fine with.

Feel really good about this weekend and managed to stay on track despite lovely weather and my sister coming for a visit! My children are still at a stage where it’s hard to limit carbs for them but I have managed to cook things where I can just replace their pasta/rice/potatoes etc with things like kale and cauliflower rice. Made my son’s favourite soup yesterday which has lots of veggies, beans and pasta in it so I made a separate version for me and replaced the beans with chicken and pasta with kale - was actually nicer than the usual version!

I have a few potential pitfalls this week with work meetings where there’ll be sandwich lunches and pastries etc but hoping that by preparing in advance and bringing own food options I’ll be able to resist. Can’t wait for boot camp lite when I can start eating nuts and some fruit again, I’ve missed that!

EasilyDefined · 20/05/2024 09:39

Unfortunately it isn't that easy, DH has T1 diabetes and does need a certain amount of carbs to keep his blood sugar levels steady (they are very well controlled). One of the DCs has very restricted eating due to autism and is underweight so no carbs is definitely not an option there either. The other is a pasta fiend. So we do quite a bit of separate cooking, also because we all come and go at different times in the evenings (we are all adults). Anyway, trying again.

Thesoundofmusic23 · 20/05/2024 09:41

your night tonight sounds fun @BIWI - I’m also a Joni fan - please report back.

I am one who struggled with compliance last week as the social diary was so complicated. Am kicking into full compliance this week though so hopefully a loss next week for me.

Have a good week everyone.

Nestnearlyempty · 20/05/2024 09:55

My digital scales (salter) reset if you press them, let them go off. Then they are reset and ready to use.

3lb loss which I am really happy with- did get lower earlier in the week but that’s just daily weighing for you.

ive got a week away with work and a dinner which tbh I would rather not go to. I may have to see if there is a way I can wriggle out of it…

fitflopqueen · 20/05/2024 10:00

Happy I bumped into this BC last week, the weather has helped with more water and no need to fill up with warming foods. 3 lb down and motivated for this week. Think I will return to fasting though as didn’t enjoy eating earlier for this past week. Keep going and it’s one day at a time.

mimosa1 · 20/05/2024 10:10

2.2kg off im so pleased! Especially as I've snuck into the 70s at 79.4kg. Hopefully I can use it as motivation as I've got a long weekend in Paris with all the family for the long weekend coming up...

I'm really struggling with breakfast. FFGYoghurt just doesn't fill me up and I don't love eggs every day. Any ideas?

prettybird · 20/05/2024 10:27

Down to 12st 7lb, so that's 4lb down Smile

I was actually down to 12st 6.5lb last Wednesday Shock but that was the day before my wedding anniversary which I kept quiet about to hide from BIWI's Big Stick as we enjoyed rather a lot of very good bubbly Blush

@NotDonna (from the end of the last thread): my tzatziki also has the essential ingredient of lots of mashed garlic Grin So, plenty of grated cucumber which I salt lightly and leave to drain (squidging it down in the sieve periodically), a few tablespoons of FFGY, at least 5 mashed garlic cloves, a wee bit of olive oil, a small squirt of lemon juice and some black pepper. If I can be bothered, I'll add some finely chopped mint.

Wasn't so good on the water yesterday so today I'm going to concentrate on that. Halo

Bex5490 · 20/05/2024 10:36

2.8lb off! But more importantly my stomach definitely looks flatter.

@prettybird I was also 1lb lighter when I weighed on Friday but I know it fluctuates so trying not to be too disappointed that I wasn’t at my lightest point for the weigh in this morning!

I’ve been totally strict with everything but I’m a huge Arsenal fan so ended up having 1 glass of rum punch yesterday to drown my sorrows. But this will not happen again!

Have done the weekly shop and feel positive and ready for week 2!!!

Baystard · 20/05/2024 10:39

I love that idea @BIWI

I've still had a decent loss in spite of the wobbles of Saturday but I must try hard this week not to have a repeat.

Going to try the coleslaw for lunch today. I made the cheese sauce to have with veg last night and will do the same again tonight, there are some tired veggies in the fridge to be used up. I'll probably top with the sauce and more cheese and stick under the grill.

@EasilyDefined it isn't easy, there'd be a riot in our household if I cut out carbs from family meals. However I am trying to cook LC as far as possible and just add a carby side option for the others, like chips, potatoes, pasta, rice, or bread etc. If I've cooked then I want to feel like my meal is 'normal' and has all the flavour and taste, and the others can add a simple plain carby side if they want/need.

prettybird · 20/05/2024 10:40

I was up over half a stone on Friday, ie in only a day Shock (now that I think back, it was actually Thursday, the morning of my wedding anniversary, that I saw 12st 6.5lb) so it shows how easily the damage is done Blush

crosspatchdownthehatch · 20/05/2024 11:01

3lbs off, was 5 in the week but 2 sneaked back on. V pleased though - if I could lose another 4 I'd be at one of my half-stone milestones so that would be fab.

had a formal three course dinner on sat and did NOT. EAT. THE POTATOES! This was a major win for me. Every woman seemed to be a perfect pilates toned size 10 though, which is what I used to be a very very very long time ago - i am choosing to see it as aspirational rather than depressing!

EasilyDefined · 20/05/2024 11:02

We all take turns to cook and unfortunately the others all tend to favour meals with "integrated" carbs such as enchiladas or pizza. Lunches are bad too when they are all tucking into baguettes and I'm eating salad. Anyway, enough of my moaning.
