Morning all

I've started a new thread as the first one was taking so long to load (and also because I kept forgetting to change my Christmas name each time I posted!)

Here's the spreadsheet

@TheSoundofMusic23 you are definitely on it! I've put in your 8lb loss, as I can't see why that wouldn't have been a real loss, but feel free to change if you need to.

Great to hear that things are going well for you @MetabolicallyComplicated - especially re the bleeding.

Maybe it's an all in one oven with grill? My in laws have one of those

Never heard of such a thing.

Thanks @prettybird
That was the recipe we used.
It was absolutely delicious, although the stalks were hard as rocks.
Definitely one to do again

I saw your post too late @Metabolicallycomplicated - but all I'll say for now is 'why?' Chinese food is pretty difficult to navigate from a LC perspective.

It’s my sisters favourite restaurant from when we were kids and it’s round the corner from the bridal place and she really wanted to go for lunch. It’s her day so I had no intention of putting a spanner in the works! I survived with my carb virtue in tact, I found double cream on the dessert station so had some of that in a coffee. Had a
couple of comments from my mum about ‘just give it a break for a day and get back to it tomorrow’ but managed to navigate it and just made sure I joined in and was lively with conversation so no one felt I was missing out or just being miserable. It worked out fine Smile

BIWI · 13/01/2024 17:07

Bloody well done though!

<pins medal on @Metabolicallycomplicated>

Honestly thought I was done for - would have been had I not had this little community to be accountable to, I think.

Anyway all is well, broccoli cheese bake for dinner!

AIBConsiderate · 13/01/2024 17:19

@Metabolicallycomplicated yaaaaas congrats on breaking the stone barrier! I'm genuinely pumped everytime someone on my team has a win.

Yeah the resentment over the Welsh cake has gone. For me it is all addiction and fear of missing out on a sugar hit, which is ridiculous and really does hit the drug analogy. I still do get cravings, but my management of them is better. It's a journey.

I have to say my mental health has soared lately, I've got so much more energy and I'm enjoying my time with the kids so much more. Not that it's all down to bootcamp I'm sure, but it's a big contributor.

Over my friend's this eve and I've already made the whipped feta (which omg, where has this been all my life) to take along in place of other temptations.

Exactly how I felt about whipped feta Grin

prettybird · 13/01/2024 17:37

Our oven has an integrated grill, so I found the instruction straightforward Wink

I think the thing about pre-heating it to high and then putting it in the middle of the oven is so that the oven cavity is hot and that it takes a bit longer before the broccoli and halloumi char.

I do a combination of cutting the stalks and florets about a centimetre thick, lengthways and a few of the bottom part of the stalks across the way (so into medallions) a bit thinner. The harder stalks (after cooking), I leave to nibble on the following day Grin

Baystard · 13/01/2024 18:47

Ooh discovered konjac noodles as a substitute for a mashed potato type side today, will defo try them again. Need a trip to an Asian supermarket soon.

BIWI · 13/01/2024 19:04

@Baystard Most of the big supermarkets sell them - brand is Bare Naked noodles

Could do with some quick help please. Kids and DH ate earlier. I put mine in the oven and set a timer. Took DC to bed and asked DH to take it out in 15 mins. He didn't and it's totally scorched. Food shop is coming tomorrow so we're running low on everything. I'm vegetarian and I've got firm tof, greek yoghurt, double cream, one yellow pepper, a sorry looking leek, some onions. Some pulses/beans/chickpeas. One block of halloumi. Can someone help me piece a meal together please before I boil a pan of pasta 😭

PurpleWhirple · 13/01/2024 19:35

I would be having buttery fried leeks and yellow pepper with some fried halloumi. If you have garlic do a dressing with oil, garlic and a squeeze of lime or lemon.

Redhothoochycoocher · 13/01/2024 19:41

Just remembered I have mascarpone as well

BIWI · 13/01/2024 19:50

@Redhothoochycoocher beans/pulses/chickpeas are not allowed on Bootcamp - even for vegetarians!

OP posts:
BIWI · 13/01/2024 19:51

What spices do you have? Do you have anything like harissa in your cupboard?

I'd do a stir-fry with your tofu and whatever other veg you have. Spice it up with harissa or chilli powder - a bit of soy sauce if you have any, and some garlic/ginger if you have either/both of those.

Eek! That's gone completely over my head. Ok, I've not had them much, I think just once actually but I'll avoid for the next couple of week.

I've got the making of a very small simple stir fry with my sorry looking leek and yellow pepper. Or maybe the creamy cheesy leeky dish? I'll go rummage now and see what seasoning I've got for each.

Thank you both, was about to drive to the supermarket and give up. DH has been having beers, kids had chips at dinner, macarons were passed around. Been so much temptation and I was fine as I knew I had a nice meal coming.

BIWI · 13/01/2024 20:15

From the week 1 thread:

As well as following the rules, you need to know which foods you won't be eating during Bootcamp. These are:

  • pasta/noodles/rice (of any colour or type)
  • bread, in any form
  • pastry
  • sweet and savoury biscuits/crackers
  • sugar (which also includes honey, agave syrup and fruit sugar)
  • flour (and sauces/gravy thickened with flour)
  • cakes
  • full sugar fizzy drinks, and squash/cordial
  • fruit juice
  • potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweetcorn, beetroot
  • balsamic vinegar (all other vinegars are fine)
  • grains/pulses/legumes (which includes peas)
  • sweets

@Redhothoochycoocher leek (sweet) and halloumi (salty) is a great combo. Have you got a lime? One of my all time faves is griddle halloumi, softened leeks with lime juice and cumin seeds. Truly greater than the sum of its parts

Almahart · 13/01/2024 20:23

griddled

Oo sounds lovely. I've eaten now but still have the halloumi so will try that later this week

LowCarbingIn2024 · 13/01/2024 21:24

Good news, @Redhothoochycoocher, battered husband isn't on BIWI's banned list, so next time he neglects to take your dinner out of the oven....

NotDonna · 13/01/2024 21:28

@SpinningTops also have a look at what you’re drinking. It’s easy to forget how many carbs are in milky coffees and teas etc.

I didn’t think you could get a grill that wasn’t inside the oven! So where are your grills? Photos please!

Good day today - lovely dog walk with friends,
Bfast - fennel tea
Lunch - Bolognese with a splash of cream to loosen it up, green beans & kale
Dinner - pan fried salmon, peppers, green beans.
Groceries arrive tomorrow thank heavens!

NotDonna · 13/01/2024 21:29

🤣🤣@LowCarbingIn2024 battered husbands! I think BIWI would be getting her big stick out re the batter; sautéed in butter, however…

Both my main oven (which I can choose between conventional and fan cooking) and my combi microwave (ditto) have grills. They're both Neff.

In both cases, the grill is the top element which would also be used for the conventional cooking.

In my main oven, I can also choose between conventional (top and bottom elements) and bottom only conventional cooking. I presume "top only" would be the grill Grin

I can also, in both the combi and the main oven, choose an option which is grill and fan cooking at the same time. So the top element is on (as the grill) while the fan at the back of the oven is forcing the hot air out!

The oven in my gas range cooker (6 rings) can also be a grill as well as an oven - but I've never used it (I have used it as an oven but I've got better at coordinating in the other two so that nowadays, the big range oven is mostly full of baking trays and roasting dishes Blush

NotDonna · 13/01/2024 22:01

Exactly @prettybird so what are these grill-less ovens that others speak of? 🤔

blackteaplease · 14/01/2024 06:50

I have a grill, it's just not in the oven. I have a range similar to the photo (but mine has a gas hob). Top left grill, bottom left fan oven, right side conventional oven.
