Morning all!

As ever, here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Looking forward to reading how you all got on.

Hopefully it's good news, but if it's not what you expected then have a think about what you've been doing - read the rules again and make sure you know what to do.

If you're sure you've been following the rules, then post and let me know what your last 3-4 days have been like in terms of what you've been eating and drinking.

@ChairOfInvisibleStudies venison sounds lovely, I'm pretty sure that the red wine is OK (and supposed to be good for the gut biome) for cooking since the alcohol has evaporated off? I really fancy casserole with cheesy cauliflower mash or something now! Bear in mind it'll be lean though, so some fatty streaky bacon would be a good and tasty addition, and fry it off with plenty of beef dripping at the beginning.

Team Baystard are having posh (but def not LC) chicken nuggets, chips and salad for dinner so I'll substitute them with Feta. Feta sliced, egged/crumbed with ground almonds and fried in dripping is very nice and is my normal nugget-night alternative but I'm trying to be super strict re nuts this week so I'll just roast a plain block of Feta in the oven at the same time as the chicken.

Baystard · 04/08/2022 09:14

@loopylu26 try to imagine the unrest in your gut is because your carb-loving gut gremlins flora, who have hitherto been running a bit of a protection racket, are being shown the door by the good bugs - it'll settle down once they finally realise they're beaten 😂

5thWisdom · 04/08/2022 09:22

Morning everyone.

Quiet day yesterday, appetite has still gone through the floor, it really is a weird sensation.

I'm hoping to take my DS for a meal this evening as a summer holiday treat and wondered if Nando's was a good option? I'd be grateful for any best menu option suggestions, if you think this is a good idea? I've not been in years.

BIWI · 04/08/2022 09:24

I haven't been to Nandos in a long time, but from memory it was always good for low carbers. Either just chicken pieces or one of their salads with chicken.

5thWisdom · 04/08/2022 09:25

@BIWI Thank you, I thought it might be a straightforward option. I'm not sure what sauces best to avoid, I'll have a Google!

prettybird · 04/08/2022 09:27

@Bunce1 - I too don't understand the love of seaweed thins. They're not even crunchy Confused - they just sort of dissolve while you're eating them Hmm

BIWI · 04/08/2022 09:29

A quick look at their menu would say that any of the Peri peri chicken dishes should be fine - they're coated in the Nandos sauce which - I don't think - has any sauce in it. If there's sugar in it it would probably be minimal.

@5thWisdom I've found Nando's pretty good for eating low carb. I usually have the chicken thighs or 1/2 chicken, with mixed leaves and broccoli as the sides. Last time I had rainbow slaw instead of the mixed leaves, but I suspect that's not as low carb. Still a safe-ish choice though. Nando's is my go-to takeaway as the rest of the family like it.

Just try and resist the pastel de nata 😳 afterwards.

5thWisdom · 04/08/2022 09:50

Their Rainbow Slaw sounds delicious (I love coleslaw) but says a portion has 11.3g of carbs (of which sugars 5.3g) - what does the 'of which sugars' part actually mean? Sorry for daft question!)

5thWisdom · 04/08/2022 09:51

Their basic coleslaw has 11.4 g (7.5 of which sugars)

loopylu26 · 04/08/2022 09:53

@Baystard thanks, hopeful it'll settle down soon. I'm just glad I WFH!

Today
B - Crustless quiche, baby toms & mayo (again)
L - Roasted chicken thigh with all the skin (yum) & salad
D - Smoked salmon fillet with buttered tenderstem, baby corn & green beans

A bit of a dodgy tummy over the past few days, wondering whether it's my system getting used to the extra fat in my diet after years of depriving myself

Thanks @venusandmars for the cheese sauce tips, I shall try next time. I sometimes add a little freshly ground nutmeg which goes really well with spinach

@Bunce1 I agree, seaweed thins are the devil's crisp

I've been similar and wondering if it's this woe or the heat. Prob both.

Yesterday had a yummy homemade chicken, cauli, onion and courgette curry.

Sorry, TMI, does anyone find they're more uncomfortable, feel a bit like I have thrush (but don't) with this woe? Am having yog most days snd take a good probiotic. I was reading that keto changes your vag ph which can cause discomfort? Really don't need this at the moment...

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 04/08/2022 10:24

@Baystard I assumed the carbs in the wine would be a problem, but maybe I should investigate further... The tagine idea is interesting too though - can't abide apricots so leaving those out will be no hardship Grin

prettybird · 04/08/2022 10:26

The alcohol might burn away but the carbs do not Sad

loopylu26 · 04/08/2022 10:47

@colouringindoors glad I'm not the only one. Heat is definitely not an issue for me, I live in Scotland and am wearing a thermal vest!

Change of plan for lunch as Asda delivery won't arrive on time, HM burger with the help of my defrosting mat and buttery mushrooms

Pleaseandthankyou · 04/08/2022 11:31

Sneaking in to join you. I have just caught up with the thread. Long term low carber but have been off piste for a while and did not have the courage to weigh until this morning. Not as bad as expected. I need to lose 6lbs to get me back to my maintenance weight. I have stopped eating breakfast which has helped with damage limitation. For those new to bootcamp it definitely works. Interestingly I had a guest staying last week. He is waiting for an op and his surgeon put him on a no sugar diet. He had lost a stone in 4 weeks.

prettybird · 04/08/2022 11:32

One of the things I've found on previous Boot Camps is that I'm more susceptible to feeling cold Sad

Not sure if it's losing the insulating layer of fat Blush or a side effect of the WoE/becoming ketogenically adapted - or a combination of the two Grin

It means that 5.3g of the carbs is sugar in some form, and the remaining 6 g comes from non-sugar forms (in this case, the vegetables in the slaw).

Personally the slaw wouldn't suit me while on Bootcamp, but between bootcamps while I'm just keeping carbs lowish, I'd have it occasionally as a treat.

As it's Bootcamp time, I'd just have the broccoli and mixed leaves. Eating out or takeaway is always a bit of a minefield but that's the best I've found.

prettybird · 04/08/2022 12:28

Nearly at my next goal (to be into 3 digits again Blush, ie under 10st 10lb): 10 st 10.25lb Smile Only half a pound to go Wink

That's a loss of 5.5lb so far Grin

Bunce1 · 04/08/2022 13:34

prettybird that’s an amazing loss! Well done!

glad I am not alone in the seaweed thin dislike. DH doesn’t mind them though….

b- didn’t have time!
l- one latte, whipped feta, some olives and a red pepper and some sugar snaps
d- not sure….. maybe a curry

rushka · 04/08/2022 17:11

Hi All, today (and yesterday) have been noticeably harder... mainly because I"m an emotional eater and have had some stress to contend with. Trying to keep within the boundaries, but wine was had with dinner last night and an ice lolly today (pure orange juice but that probably doesn't make any difference except to me psychologically!!) Anyway, thank you @Pleaseandthankyou for saying 'it definitely works' as I need to hear that and am determined to keep going!!

5thWisdom · 04/08/2022 19:33

@prettybird well done, that's fantastic progress.

Back from Nando's. In the end, to save money and carbs, I stuck with half a chicken with some yummy Nando's sauce, no sides - I double checked the sauce and it's 1.2g per 100g so just enjoyed the flavour. That was plenty to eat, didn't feel like eating anything else. Had big salad for lunch.

Sat here now, feeling quite full. Zero appetite for anything else apart from lots of water.

Might get some Nando's sauce to eat with chicken at home, it was yummy.

colouringindoors · 04/08/2022 20:47

B greek yog
L salad with bacon, avocado, leaves
D Haddock with a creamy cheesey sauce, plus broccoli with butter. Was yum!

LOADS of water and a Dioralyte 🙄

Chocasaurus · 04/08/2022 20:48

@prettybird Well done on a great loss
@rushka sorry to hear things are stressful, be kind to yourself

Today's LBW for me is not feeling hungry or wanting to snack, so hopefully I've adjusted to this WOE. Food today
B = eggx2, tomato and flat mushroom
L = sausage salad with mayo
D = salmon with broccoli and kale (with butter)
W = 3l

Tomorrow's Food will be whatever is left in the fridge before our shop gets delivered in the afternoon. I'm at a friend's for dinner in the evening - takeaway was originally mentioned but plan has changed to cheese, meats and olives etc so should be hopefully relatively BC friendly. Just need to swerve dessert!

Right, early night for me as was up in the night with a teething toddler DC 😴 on the plus side I can't eat any more this evening!

Chocasaurus · 04/08/2022 20:49

@5thWisdom well done on successfully navigating nandos!
