General Low Carb Bootcamp Chat

Although I generally keep a chat thread going at the end of each Bootcamp, I think it would be better to have an ongoing chat thread that isn't linked to a specific Bootcamp.

So here it is. A sparkly new thread, for all things low carb and Bootcamp chat. As well as anything else you'd like to chat about!

Feel free to chat about anything you like here.

So far it's working like a charm and I have lost my bump which is great news for someone who is not pregnant. I've still got to get through the weekend but I am going to study the menu tonight for the pub we're going to tomorrow night to plan in advance what to have so I don't make any bad decisions. Btw how bad is cheese souffle as they have the most delicious double baked cheese souffle on the menu - I know there's flour in there but not sure if it's minimal or maximal (if maximal is a word).

Baystard · 14/01/2022 19:03

@byebyecarbs i think most souffle recipes are about 30-40g of flour, serving 3 or 4 people. So that would be maybe 10g flour per person (about 8g carbs)?

BIWI · 14/01/2022 19:48

I think it's a difficult one @byebyecarbs - according to BBC Good Food based on their recipe it would be 18g carbs.

So the answer is simple - none of us knows how carby it will be, but potentially it could be really high.

Do you want to link to the menu and let us see if we can help you navigate it?

Goodness, that's not an easy menu Confused

I think whatever you choose you're going to have to ask for some element(s) to be left off or substituted.

For starter, I'd go for either the prawn cocktail or the salmon - obviously without the melba toast/sourdough bread. Possibly take the risk with the cheese soufflé!

For main, I'd go for the slow cooked beef cheek (obviously without the mash), the sea bass/gilthead bream (without the potatoes), the steak (without the chips).

There are at least some good options when it comes to the sides, as a replacement for potatoes/chips.

And then the cheeseboard.

Thank you very kindly @prettybird for the shoogled sprouts. I had a (small) bag of them with a Brantley lamb chop for supper tonight. Delicious.

ZiggZagg · 15/01/2022 04:17

Morning all, I have started 2022 not as I meant to go on- single after hubby left me today. I haven't eaten anything until the 2 bottles of wine then had a doner kebab 🙈 I'm thinking heartbreak diet might override low carb diet for the next few weeks 😭

byebyecarbs · 15/01/2022 05:18

@ZiggZagg I'm so sorry to hear this and I'm sure under the circumstances the bottles of wine and kebab were very much needed. Hope you don't feel too rough today. Sending a virtual hug and sisterly support to you.

@BIWI thanks for taking the trouble to look through the menu and yes I was thinking steak with lots of green veg. I might have the souffle as a starter as it comes with a big green salad so if I avoid all other carbs today it hopefully won't be too bad.

In other news I'm back in my jeans. When I was in denial about my expanding girth, as well as avoiding the scales I avoided wearing jeans and switched to sweater dresses and woolly tights. I'm still not in my favourite jeans but I'm hoping bootcamp will take care of that.

ditavonteesed · 15/01/2022 05:42

@ZiggZagg so sorry to hear that, I hold your ok. Do you have some support?

prettybird · 15/01/2022 07:43

Sorry to hear that @ZiggZagg SadThanks I'll echo what @ditavonteesed has said and ask if you have real life support?

I've seen really good practical and emotional advice on the Relationship boards. And of course we're around for you Smile

Carbs and wine are a short term (and very understandable Wink) refuge but in the long term they are not a solution.

Take inspiration from the meaning of BIWI's name: Because You're Worth It and remember You Are Worth It Smile

Thanks
BIWI · 15/01/2022 08:09

I'm so sorry to hear that @ZiggZagg Sad

Wine and a kebab are both entirely understandable in the circumstances, and I hope you're not feeling too (physically) rough this morning.

Talk here if it will help/we can help you in any way.

Thinking of you @ZiggZagg

SweetPotatoDumpling · 15/01/2022 09:20

Hello to the weekend! It's felt like a long time coming to be honest...as I realised by Wednesday that I was in full blown 'carb flu' (which isn't easy when you need to 'Put On Your Smiley Face' all day for your little lovelies in Year 2)

I found an old spreadsheet on one of the past Bootcamp threads, and I started Bootcamp 'proper' on 3rd January, as I know that once I set my mind on something, if I don't do it 'right now' I just won't go back to it! Also, Burns Night!!!!

I know it is probably mostly water, but stood on the scales today, and did a little victory dance when it told me I'd reached my first milestone loss of 8lb...which brings me into the 'next stone' bracket :-) I always think that's psychologically encouraging!

@ZiggZagg really sad to hear about the crappy time you're having! Hope that you are able to find someone to support you IRL today - rant away on here too, it's good to talk!

byebyecarbs · 15/01/2022 11:21

This morning I went for a run and it was very chilly. When I returned I rewarded myself with the most delicious croque monsieur made with seriously low carb bread and fried in lurpak. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Baystard · 15/01/2022 11:35

@byebyecarbs that sounds really good. I've never tried low carb bread but I night give it a go. Lunch today for rest of family will probably be bacon rolls and whilst I'll be happy with bacon and fried eggs I miss the texture of some toasted or fried bread.

byebyecarbs · 15/01/2022 11:42

@Baystard seriously low carb bread is fab and so like proper bread. I have lots in the freezer. It’s not cheap but so worth it as when I’m overweight I buy more clothes to hide the bulges and make me feel better. When I’m slimmer I am very happy with the clothes I have as they fit properly. Having this bread means I can stick to low carbing and never feel deprived. I am trying to stick to a max of 4 slices a day. They are small slices though.

Prinnny · 15/01/2022 11:47

We ate out and I went for a mixed grill with salad, the two glasses of Pinot were my only carb content so don’t feel that guilty!

Think I’m going to have a low carb bread toastie for lunch then we’re getting Nando’s for tea so that will be plain butterfly chicken, coleslaw salad and halloumi 🐷

AllTheBlackCoffee · 15/01/2022 13:13

Sorry to hear your news @ZiggZagg Flowers

I've just had a bacon, mushroom and cheese butty on a SLC roll and it was lovely. I bought them earlier in the year and froze them but fell off the LC wagon never tried them so I wasn't sure how well they'd have kept but they were good. I have a loaf too, again never tried, so I'm going to have that toasted with leftover Christmas pate tomorrow. Can't wait! Little things like this make LC so much easier.

ZiggZagg · 15/01/2022 14:02

Thanks everyone, it wasn't too much of a shock but still upsetting.

Back on it today, with just coffee.

Planning a lovely mixed kebab from my local Lebanese place this evening, my absolute favorite and totally LCHF compatible Grin

BestIsWest · 15/01/2022 15:27

Sorry to hear you’re having a crappy time of things ZiggZagg .

Just had cheese and salad for lunch and planning a takeaway for lunch. Just bathed two very smelly dogs. No idea what they’d been up to. Rolling in something unmentionably stinky I suppose.

MercedesBenz · 16/01/2022 14:48

De lurking ready for tomorrow start !

Made celeriac soup for tomorrow ( dp and I just had a bowl , delicious )
Getting my head ready
I altered my scale to read in lbs , I want to lose 56 lb ( 4 stone ) so a fair way to go

Sorry to hear your update @ZiggZagg

StuntNun · 16/01/2022 16:34

Oh ZiggZagg what a shock for you. I hope you'll feel up to starting Bootcamp with us tomorrow. Thanks

Here's the week 1 chat thread

Well I've hardly deviated from the low carb path this weekend which is unheard of for me as weekends are usually when it all goes horribly wrong. Dinner at the pub last night went great and I ate a small amount of potato by accident but otherwise did very well. Today was a sunday pub roast and I gave my husband the yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes and had beef with cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. Raring to go with bootcamp now! Off to check out the other chat BIWI just posted about.
