General Low Carb Bootcamp Chat

BIWI · 29/12/2021 23:37

Although I generally keep a chat thread going at the end of each Bootcamp, I think it would be better to have an ongoing chat thread that isn't linked to a specific Bootcamp.

So here it is. A sparkly new thread, for all things low carb and Bootcamp chat. As well as anything else you'd like to chat about!

Feel free to chat about anything you like here.

Oh, and I don't look like such a faddy eater

It's interesting how it's low calorie diets that, despite being the oldest 'diet' and one with which society is most familiar, attract most negative attention if you're eating with others - nobody ever remarks when you ask for an extra fried egg or horse into a cheese board Grin. I'm struggling to put it right but it's as if people innately understand that eggs, cheese, oily fish, fats etc are 'good', in spite of the marketing strategies of big 'food' manufacturers. There's hope for the species yet!

Baystard · 12/01/2022 17:27

B - black coffee
L - a utterly perfect-in-every-way avacado with a squeeze of lime juice
D - beef chilli (made with 25% fat mince), guacamole, and cheddar.

Wasn't very hungry at/after lunchtime but I've had a few lighter appetite days this week and I'm aiming for a more substantial refeed tonight.

byebyecarbs · 12/01/2022 18:31

A very good day here - an egg mayonnaise sandwich on seriously low carb bread and then creamed mushrooms with bacon bits. And two sticks of celery.

I know this is probably a silly question but when we count carbs on a packet do we count the actual carbohydrates or the "of which sugars"?

hapusrwydd · 12/01/2022 18:53

Been good today, although behind on the water - but will get there before sleep!

Had some lovely creamy Gorgonzola for brunch and having Bolognese with spinach with a bit more of that cheese for tea. Will see if dairy impacts loss soon!

BestIsWest · 12/01/2022 19:24

Also. good here. Cheddar and tomatoes for a late lunch as I took the dogs for a long walk. Such gorgeous weather today. Dinner was roast ham with swede mash.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 12/01/2022 19:31

Evening all.

Easing myself in slowly,

B. Black coffee
L. Slices of ham, cheddar, turkey with mayo, and a few silver skin onions
D. Pork shoulder steak, with roasted celeriac, sprouts and leeks

@ShagMeRiggins

I’m preparing for Monday by having two last hurrahs—one with girlfriends tomorrow and one with husband on Saturday.

I have a veritable bisexual harem, apparently. Hmm

Anyway, my gain from end of last Bootcamp to this one has been appx 4-6lbs. I can deal with that. Less than half a stone. Okay.

I have a friend who has a perfectly healthy BMI and also teaches Zumba (many, many times a week) who embarks on a weight loss program at the beginning of November so she can eat anything she fancies during the holidays and doesn’t worry about losing weight in January. Interesting approach.

When I hit my goal weight (2 - 2 1/2 stones to go, will get there, believe me), I’m considering adopting that approach; lose weight before a big period of time (Christmas, summer holidays) rather than after (when it all feels shite). Psychologically, it’s very interesting.

Sending massive flowers and appreciation to everyone on this thread. We’re going to have a great Bootcamp.

That is actually genius!

Also, yes it was me with the dirty celeriac fries, glad to see they're still being enjoyed! Aldi had celeriac today so I pounced on those, now have 2 in the cupboard (they keep for ages) awaiting their destiny. I have to be in the right mood for celeriac...

I'm on day 3 of easing in, made a moussaka type thing for dinner as DCs were having spag bol. For the topping, I just dolloped a load of creme fraiche, some lumps of goats cheese and a Liberal handful of mozzarella. Worked really well.

Re gallbladders, I left the last Bootcamp I joined after getting an awful gallbladder type pain that turned out to be some kind of infection. I couldn't eat much for a few weeks except fairly plain carbs. I was worried it had happened because of the diet, but I'd low carbed for ages before with no issues. Hasn't happened since, so I'm guessing it was just a coincidence.

@byebyecarbs we count the whole carbs, not just the 'of which ...'

Total carbs in the UK because we list fibre separately. Total carbs are sugars and starches (I think). In the US their total carbs also includes fibre, which is why their keto recipes quote 'net carbs'. I usually look for the carb count per 100g to decide if it's OK, but depends on the quantity I'll be eating it in.
byebyecarbs · 13/01/2022 06:58

Morning all! Just to say I no longer care about food and it feels very liberating. Obviously I will still be eating it sometimes but is is no longer my entire raison d'etre.

byebyecarbs · 13/01/2022 07:01

ps my post is lighthearted!

byebyecarbs · 13/01/2022 07:02

Just in case anyone thinks I've stopped eating for good or anything.....because I haven't

byebyecarbs · 13/01/2022 07:02

I'm just delighted that my life is no longer governed by what I'm going to eat next and I'm not a slave to my appetite any more.

Baystard · 13/01/2022 07:25

@byebyecarbs it's a great feeling to make rationale, considered choices about what food to eat and when, isn't it!

Baystard · 13/01/2022 07:25

*rational

AllTheBlackCoffee · 13/01/2022 07:45

Blimey, I was in a bad mood yesterday, like PMT but worse! I seem to remember this from LCing in the past - something to do with oestrogen being released from fat cells maybe??

Anyway, resulted in me eating two tiny bars of Green and Blacks, but then I was so pissed off I didn’t eat tea. So hoping the lack of a proper meal and the longer fast will have overridden the bad.

Glad that I’m getting all this out of the way before BC starts properly. Could still merrily kill someone this morning, made worse by the fact I thought today was Friday, but I’ll try to keep my mood in check.

prettybird · 13/01/2022 08:09

Thanks @AllTheBlackCoffee Hope your mood lifts soon Smile

Just as well it is not Boot Camp proper yet as BIWI would have got the Big Stick out Wink

Pleaseandthankyou · 13/01/2022 08:23

Had a binging carby weekend and was shocked by the scales on Monday. Stepped on the scales this morning and 4lbs lighter. Another 5lbs takes me to a normal bmi. Target is 8lbs. Checking in to keep me on track.

BIWI · 13/01/2022 09:22

Oh don't you worry @prettybird - I have The Big Stick all polished up and ready to go Wink

@Baystard your mention of the perfect avocado reminded me that I have one in the fridge. It feels just right, so it's going to be avocado, salad and egg mayonnaise for lunch. And a huge stir fry for dinner (cooked in some of the lovely duck fat left over from yesterday's confit legs) Mmmm.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 13/01/2022 10:29

I’ve decided I’m going to have a huge fry up for lunch. Feel like I need something really satisfying after not eating a right lot last night. Will be lots of bacon, creamy buttery (possibly cheesy) scrambled eggs, mushrooms fried in butter and spinach. Can’t wait Grin

prettybird · 13/01/2022 11:13

Lunch is the last of the vegetable soup (made with some of my gazillion frozen batches of ham stock). Supper will be (low carb) sausages with shoogled Brussels and buttery cabbage.

If I'm hungry I'll have some Greek yoghurt with cinnamon.

BestIsWest · 13/01/2022 13:08

Been feeling a bit under the weather today and very hungry so have just eaten two boiled eggs, half an avocado, three spoonfuls of peanut butter and a dish of Greek yoghurt. Not a combination I’d recommend as I feel even more yuk.

FusionChefGeoff · 13/01/2022 14:45

@AllTheBlackCoffee interesting about the hormones. I'm pretty convinced I'm heading in the direction of peri menopause (if I'm not there already) and have felt awful for the past 3 days.

I've been back on LC for a couple of weeks now and I know that I'm going to eat this way from now on. But for my eating disorder which I'm slowly getting a handle on (I hope) I need to step away from rules and the formal BC threads. I'm going to run a maintenance version which includes the higher carb veg and pulses but still steering well clear of the refined carbs. Apart from the odd definitely worth it treat eg home made cake / nice dessert if out.

I'm hoping (and seeing results so far) that this stops the deprivation / binge cycle.

So hopefully this chat will continue alongside BC proper.

Made the stick Mayo just now and having finished the Why We Eat Too Much book tried to replace sunflower oil with olive oil.

Definitely don't do this Grin

BIWI · 13/01/2022 17:27

Oh yes! Mayo made with EVOO is horrid. Far too bitter.
