Week 4 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

Morning all!

here's the spreadsheet . If you haven't already seen it, check out the new info for veg/nuts/fruit that @AthelstaneTheUnready has added to it. Updated (and hopefully now the most accurate) data for all three categories, and all grouped into traffic light categories - green to eat freely (when allowed, in the case of nuts and fruit), amber to be more cautious about and red to avoid as much as possible.

If there's a particular ingredient that isn't on there, just let me know and I'll find the data for that and add it.

And now to week 4

A reminder that this week is also one where you're unlikely to see much loss - and possibly may see a gain. Just remember that THIS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL! Don't panic, but just KOKO and things should get moving again from next week.

Off to catch up with the end of last week's thread now. Hope everyone has an enjoyable bank holiday Monday Flowers

I love lamb, so do my children, definitely could make a hotpot this week..

nowlook · 04/05/2021 14:04

This is the recipe @Oneborneverydecade and @cheeseisthebest

All weights and measures very much approx Wink

750g lamb neck fillet
1 large leek
2 large sticks celery
2 large shallot
1/2 celeriac
125g baby spinach
50g butter
1 tsp chilli flakes
double cream (50-100ml, depending on how you like it. Oddly, I'm at the 50ml end now as taste has shifted over successive BCs Confused)
2 tsp cumin
1 clove garlic
Large pinch salt
Good few turns black pepper. (to taste).

Melt the butter in a large shallow oven proof saucepan (10 inch), add celery (1cm slices), leek (halved and 2 cm slices) and roughly chopped shallots. Cook slowly until soft (10mins) , turn up heat and add the lamb (smallish inch pieces), salt, pepper, cumin, chilli. Turn regularly to brown meat but not burn the veg. After 10 min remove from heat and add hot water ( just enough to cover mixture) stir and place in 180 oven for 1hr. Remove and add garlic (crushed) and spinach, stir and put back in oven for 20 mins (liquid should now have reduced) remove from oven and stir in the cream and cover with sliced celeriac (3mm) brush the celeriac with a little melted butter and season, back in the oven for another 30 mins.

nowlook · 04/05/2021 14:07

(it's also on the recipe thread if you ever need to find it!)

cheeseisthebest · 04/05/2021 14:07

Thank you nowlook!

nowlook · 04/05/2021 14:24

No worries cheese. Are you having a week off the scales? I haven't seen a post with your stats (sorry if I've missed it). I can't weigh as am away all week with work, but I can still do the spreadsheet-filling!

cheeseisthebest · 04/05/2021 14:34

Um no Blush 142lb after crappy weekend away.

Thanks nowlook

nowlook · 04/05/2021 15:27

Och, it'll come off right enough this week @cheeseisthebest Grin

Moonswimmer · 04/05/2021 15:45

MIM small steps - I have just joined my new local pool (i moved during lockdown and it’s only just reopened)! Now to find my swimming kit and actually book a session!

FinallyHere · 04/05/2021 16:28

@Moonswimmer loving the small steps

💐to everyone going through tough times, whether for big things or small, we all need support when making the changes for BC

MIM walk this morning and half way to 3.5l water so far.

L Greek salad and two lamb chops
Supper likely to be chorizo and roast celeriac.

colouringindoors · 04/05/2021 16:29

thanks nowlook ouchmyfeet I rarely have lamb as bit £££ but might just treat myself.

Oneborneverydecade · 04/05/2021 17:08

Thanks @nowlook I'd asked DH for a week of salads so the hotpot will have to wait for next week

I was up 1.5lb this week @cheeseisthebest humpf

cheeseisthebest · 04/05/2021 17:30

Will join in the humpf although mine is totally my own fault!
Back on it today and feel much better for it.

BSky · 04/05/2021 17:47

I’m gutted I’ve just written a long comment after catching up on the thread and it disappeared!

@ZiggZagg thinking of you today Flowers

Well done to people with losses & NSV & well done to all of those KOKO!!

Some people are having a really tough time now and I hope that changes soon. In the meantime take care and be kind to your selves. Flowers Brew 🛁

Loving the inspiration - recipes, achievements, lambs and flowers and the general comraderie. It’s so nice to be part of motivating & supportive community as per @FusionChefGeoff & @FinallyHere So much good advice about keeping on, trusting the process and not letting a detour completely derail you.

With that advice in mind.....

I have over indulged this BH weekend - mostly in line with BC but probably too much food & def too much vino. Couple of sweet potato fries & some Lindt choc with orange thrown in! Balanced with decent amounts of water (apart from yesterday when I was cold so drank lots of tea with milk and a cappacino)..... And I’m not sure my delving into the peanut butter jar today was completely necessary....

Courgette frittata tonight and more water.

ListenLinda · 04/05/2021 18:17

Well thank god DS ordeal is all over with. I can bath him tonight Grin
Got chicken thighs roasting in the oven which I will have with a salad and some premium range coleslaw.
Tomorrow will be a day to get everything done before going back to the office on Thursday. Including making a packed lunch, I managed to get hold of an insulated lunch bag.

Chattycatty · 04/05/2021 18:37

Feel a bit off today kind of fluey but also bloated and nauseous. I'm 8 days in is it likely to be carb flu? Probably asking a daft question 🤦🏼‍♀️

BSky · 04/05/2021 18:44

That’s great @ListenLinda - that will be a relief & hopefully you can get some better sleep.

You sound very organised with your insulated lunch bag. Hope your return to the office goes well.

Moonswimmer · 04/05/2021 19:14

Just checking in with today’s (in retrospect, surprisingly pig-based) menu.

B: sausage pattie with cucumber
L: leftover Vietnamese pork balls with salad
D: pork chops with garlic butter and salad.

Oneborneverydecade · 04/05/2021 19:36

@BSky how was the sweet potato fry and Lindt chocolate orange combo? One for the veggie recipe thread?

@Chattycatty sorry to hear you're feeling unwell. I don't think bloating is a symptom of carb flu but it may be

@ListenLinda that's great

prettybird · 04/05/2021 19:41

@Chattycatty - it could be carb flu - or it could be that you're coming down with something Wink Have you been having all the water?

BSky · 04/05/2021 19:48

@Oneborneverydecade 😆 Maybe a special veggie fusion thread...

Makegoodchoices · 04/05/2021 19:49

Messed up day due to horrible meetings and random family comings and goings.

As a result lunch was two ‘egg wraps’ with the egg as the wrap. They were rubbish but quick.

Dinner should have been satay burgers but instead was cooked Turkey mince with cauli rice, cucumbers and cheese. Lots of salt, pepper and garlic powder added. (Son and husband had it with pesto pasta). Bit random.

Got out for a walk this evening, which was good.
Not enough water...never enough water.

ilovecherries · 04/05/2021 19:54

@Oneborneverydecade

Flowers thinking of you *@ZiggZagg*

DD's first proper morning at outside preschool this morning and I've used the time for a disastrous run (stopped after 15 mins) and watching RHOBH. Oops

@ilovecherries I know that you've had a tricky couple of lockdowns but you obviously had great success maintaining. Can you tell us a bit more about you did it

This sounds like a lot of new age shite, but basically I started to feel well for the first time in years within a couple of weeks of starting Bootcamp - so long before I lost significant weight, as my loss, while steady, was always slow. I started to realise that eating in a way that made me feel well was an act of self love, and stuffing carbs down my throat was an act of self harm. So I just made a decision every single day that I was going to eat in away that made me feel well - and after decades of starvation diets, I made a commitment to myself that I would never make my body feel uncomfortably hungry again, and I would never again count a calorie. . If I get hungry, I eat. I don’t eat keto-cakes, because I find the ‘oh, naughty but delicious’ mentality around sweet food quite triggering. So - in short - I maintained for 4 years by staying on bootcamp. I didn’t have cheat days, I refused to discuss what I ‘couldn’t’ eat and focussed on what I could. I stopped being embarrassed about asking for what I needed in restaurants etc. I decided early on I wouldn’t get scared of a vegetable, so although I don’t eat carrots, sweet corn, peas etc at home if someone cooks them for me, I eat them but otherwise, I guess I’m strictly on bootcamp lite all the time. But potatoes, rich, pasta, puddings etc are on-negotiables. I don’t even think about eating them normally. I guess I just made a decision and recommitted to in every day. We’ve had multiple holidays, big birthdays, big wedding anniversaries, graduations etc etc, and I’ve just kept right on. In the first lockdown we were shielding dd, who moved home from uni to shield. Things were quite difficult till we got the priority shops sorted as we had to depend on local farm shops doing delivery, so I put on a few pounds - not much and I lost it again once I got back in control of the food I had. After I moved in with my dad to care for him at the end of his life, I ended up having to shield with him. But I didn’t have a minute to cook, he couldn’t eat, and I was so stressed and distressed I felt sick all the time. So I did live on toast and cereal. Having had a stable weight for years, I then lost another stone, I guess because I was living on my nerves and my calories were low. But I really didn’t feel well. Ironically, I always, even over the last four years, wanted to lose about another 10 lbs, but it never happened - I got into a healthy BMI and stabilised. Again, I found that quite triggering - I knew I couldn’t lose more without calorie counting, and I was sorely tempted, and had to keep reminding myself of my commitment. Having finally lost that 10 lbs when dad was dying, I realised the cost was really too high. Happy to answer any qus - I’m a bit evangelical!
ElasticFirecracker · 04/05/2021 20:20

I'm still catching up with reading the thread, but just wanted to post food.

@BIWI I've looked carefully at what I've been eating and I've made quite a few false assumptions. Haven't been adding fat to meals and eating some things which are more carby than I thought. I'm feeling much clearer about what I need to do.

I estimate that yesterday my meals were

10% carbs
67% fat
23% protein

Today

7% carbs
70% fat
23% protein

Does that look ok?

Today's food:

B: chopped liver (chicken liver onions & eggs) with lettuce

L: baked aubergine with lettuce and MAYO and cheese crackers

Planned Snack: cheese crackers & cream cheese.

D

Salmon cooked in BUTTER with green beans and broccoli with BUTTER.

FinallyHere · 04/05/2021 20:49

Thank you for the recap @ilovecherries

Really interesting to see it set out like that. Your approach helped me stop thinking about the number of weeks and help me realise that this really is a WOE.

As I might have mentioned before, I never enjoyed a holiday as much as the one where I kept to Bootcamp lite throughout. It's wasn't even difficult.

Very sorry to read about what you have had to dace in recent years. Hoping this is a good place for you to be.

BIWI · 04/05/2021 21:08

@ElasticFirecracker

That all sounds good - we don't set specific targets for the macronutrients, but the level of carbs definitely looks right - you could possibly look to increase your protein a little, but overall it seems like you're on the right track!

The only thing I'd question is the planned snack - you really shouldn't be hungry between meals, so that shouldn't be necessary.
