Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

Checking in!
Feel like I'm getting a cold, no idea how as havent been anywhere or seen anyone! Hopefully it's just a cold!

StuntNun · 07/02/2021 21:38

Replying to posts on the old thread...

Bestbees the salt and vinegar pork scratchings were from Sainsburys although a few brands do them now. They had a BBQ flavour too but it was higher carb.

Fagey my dad used to make egg curry with whole eggs in when I was a kid. You don't realise how poor you are when you're young! We used to have egg curry or tinned pilchard curry when things were tight. I remember him moaning when he couldn't get rabbit any more because it was always so cheap. A few weeks ago I had some takeaway curry left over and I served it over a couple of boiled eggs cut in half which was surprisingly delicious.

prettybird · 07/02/2021 21:48

Thinking ahead to what we'll be eating next week, I'm announcing now that dh and I will be having scallops and/or tiger prawns with home made aioli (of course Wink) and/or Dover sole next Sunday with some lovely South African Sauvignon Blanc (either the lovely Iona or the equally lovely Rickety Bridge Sauvignon Blanc Smile).

And just to place mark: here is another a cat picture of the cats knowing that they look gorgeousWink

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!
venusandmars · 07/02/2021 21:49

I have these weird thoughts where I sometimes can't believe I've actually lost weight... I think it might all be a delusion and that tomorrow morning I'll step on the scales and the 9lb will all be back (and more!). So I go through this ludicrous ritual where tonight, on a Sunday evening, I stand on the scales, after dinner, wearing my clothes (big jumper and all). And STILL I'm not as heavy as I was on 24/12/20 when I started.

Whatever the scales read in the morning, I know I have lost real weight.

@prettybird such beautiful cats... such delicious sounding wine

Motivateinmotion · 07/02/2021 22:13

Thanks for new thread @BIWI

ZiggZagg · 07/02/2021 22:30

Just place marking, I have my chicken and veg bake for lunch tomorrow then Courgetti bologna for dinner!

Good luck to everyone weighing in the morning Grin

Ninkanink · 07/02/2021 22:45

Thank you for the new thread! Checking in.

I love boiled eggs in a vegetable curry - I usually halve them and put them straight in to warm through.

Hope you’re all feeling rested, relaxed and at peace this evening. 💐Good luck for tomorrow’s weigh in!! 🤞 I’m on my period so unlikely to see a loss but that’s ok - I’m happy enough as this is a long term way of life for me so the present one or two lbs up or down is almost incidental.

ListenLinda · 08/02/2021 06:03

Checking in with 0.5lb off. As i said yesterday, i’ll take that!
Need to restock the food supplies, what lovely meals are you all planning this week?

Onelittlepiglet · 08/02/2021 06:14

Hi everyone, I’ve not been around much the last few days - one of my fillings fell out and I had to get that sorted out and it was very painful!

I’ve weighed in and am 0.5lb heavier than last week. I’ve been doing this since 1 jan so am in my 6th week. I’ve only lost 1lb in 3 weeks which is quite disheartening. I still have over 1 stone to loose and that’s not to get to a low weight, it’s to get in the upper range of my BMI so it’s not like I’m close to my target either.

I haven’t cheated, no alcohol or anything like that. I have had raspberries with my yogurt twice in a week (and only 3-4 frozen raspberries). I’ve measured out milk so I don’t have too much and only have up to 50ml a day (usually much less as I only have one cup of tea most days, sometimes two if I really feel like it). I drink loads of water - definitely hit my target every day so no problems there.

Am going to cut right back on dairy and stop having yoghurt and cream. The scales are just not moving for me and I don’t know what else to do.

Typical food for me in a day would be Greek yoghurt and cream for breakfast, green veg soup with cheese and cream or salad with avocado and chicken for lunch, diner something like steak and green veg or chilli and cauliflower rice plus green veg, beef stew and green veg, Bolognese with courgetti (but I limit meals with tomatoes to once or twice a week).

Yesterday was:

B - tablespoon on yoghurt, teaspoon of cream, 4 raspberries
L - big plate salad cups with a chicken breast, avocado and a spoonful of mayonnaise (2.7g carbs) plus olive oil slathered over.
D - roast beef, broccoli, asparagus and roasted fennel (with lots of butter and the meat juice).

Today will have

B - 2 eggs with butter
L - cold roast beef, avocado and salad with lots of olive oil.
D - chicken (not sure how I’ll cook this yet) piles of green veg like broccoli, spinach, courgette with loads of butter and oil.

Does this food look ok? I quite often have green veg soup for lunch with cheese and a bit of cream. I’ll make some this week and leave out the cream and cheese and add more butter maybe? Any other suggestions of how to improve?

Oneborneverydecade · 08/02/2021 07:09

@Onelittlepiglet I'll leave it to an expert to look at your food, but I just wanted to reassure you that losing 1lb between weeks 3 and 5 is not unexpected. It is disheartening but please keep going

Oneborneverydecade · 08/02/2021 07:19

I've lost 3lb this week which is the most I've lost in a single week in a looong time. I did some reading up on IF and switched from 16:8 to nearer 20:4 - I think I just needed a new focus.

Good luck for this morning and the week ahead everyone

Elpheba · 08/02/2021 07:23

1.5lb down after week 4 for me. Wish it was coming off faster as I feel cross at myself that I’ve got so much to lose. But trying to reassure myself that scales are moving in right direction and am finding it easier and easier to resist other food. Spent the weekend, as ever, prepping carb filled food and snacks for my DC and managed to resist them all. Bought some fancy pate to enjoy on the seriously low carb bread that has arrived.

ChristMyArse · 08/02/2021 07:23

@Onelittlepiglet I've been in the same boat. I am currently in week 6 and have seen the same lb Bob around for 2.5 to 3 weeks / finally shifted it in the last couple of days so this week I have lost 2.2lb. I've cut down cream and cheese in the last 2 days.... I'm hoping that it's just coincidence as I do like my cream.

Bestbees · 08/02/2021 07:23

Morning. 1lb down so not too bad yesterday considering. I think what I am finding hard is I am the same weight I would be eating toast, big bags of crisps, jacket potatoes, drinking half a bottle of wine. Apart from yesterday I have been really strict! @venusandmars I wanted something that wasn't fat! I had eaten plenty I just wanted something fresh and sweet and juicy.

Avoiding fasting this week as wondering if that is making me bingy.
B ham and butter lettuce sandwich
L veg curry with eggs on the side
D pan fried seabass, celeriac and swede mash and lots of fried cabbage.

Hope everyone is waking up with a good loss this morning.

VeryLittleOwl · 08/02/2021 07:24

2.2lbs off - that takes me to 10% of my starting weight last October gone Grin

ZiggZagg · 08/02/2021 07:41

3pb off for me this week, I'm happy with that little whoosh, hopefully it will continue going down now!!

Well done on your losses everyone and KOKO if you don't get a result that you want, it will come off, have faith!

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 08/02/2021 07:45

1.5 off, which takes me to a stone off this boot camp! Very happy with that. That’s also a 5% loss, my next big target is 10% loss.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 08/02/2021 07:45

I'm up a couple of pounds. The week before last wasn't good for me food wise but I've been back on track this week. Maybe too much cheese? Combined with totm? Will see how this week goes.

Jollyholibobs · 08/02/2021 08:05

Well done on losses everyone and KOKO if it’s not a loss for you this week. I am up 1lb. Very near target and the same pound is bobbing up and down. I am just happy that this WOE allows me to feel relaxed around food after over 40 years + of yo-yo dieting and beating myself up.

B black coffee
L tuna Mayo lettuce cups
D cauliflower cheese and flgv

Have a good day everyone.

pinkpinkeverywhere · 08/02/2021 08:10

Morning, 2.6lbs down in week 3, so I'm please with that after hearing often week 3/4 are bad. I tried a couple more meals off the vegetarian thread and they were nice, although making pastry from cauliflower was time consuming!
We had a takeaway on Saturday (and a glass of Wine) but I had roasted salmon and asked for the dill crushed potatoes and pickled veg to be swapped for celeriac mash and roasted veg, so hopefully it wasn't too bad - made a lovely change from cooking though!
Hope everyone's weigh in are in the right direction Flowers

Dailyhandtowelwash · 08/02/2021 08:11

@Onelittlepiglet it is really hard isn’t it?

I’ve put on and my total loss for this diet is 2.2lbs. I ate cheese twice at the weekend.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 08/02/2021 08:26

3/4 of a pound on for me this week. Feeling ok, mainly due to the warnings on this thread about weeks 3&4.

Sorry to those of you struggling Thanks

Thank you to whoever suggested almond milk lattes (I've lost track, sorry). I'm going to avoid substitutions for now, mainly because they give me flashbacks to WW, but will bear this in mind!

KOKO 💪

venusandmars · 08/02/2021 08:27

Just over 1lb down. Steady and slow...

Brunch - creamy coffee; meatloaf, salad, avocado, mayonnaise, kimchi
D - roast veg and chorizo (there will be butternut squash but I'll only have a small amount) the rest is leeks, broccoli, beans, with a hand full of kale added for the last 10 minutes.
