@cheeseisthebest I've started with a cold as well! Came on yesterday, completely out of the blue. Sick of blowing my nose already. (No other symptoms, fortunately)
@Fagey/@StuntNun boiled eggs are great in a curry, especially a lentil curry (although that's off limits for now, sadly)
@Onelittlepiglet
I’ve weighed in and am 0.5lb heavier than last week. I’ve been doing this since 1 jan so am in my 6th week. I’ve only lost 1lb in 3 weeks which is quite disheartening. I still have over 1 stone to loose and that’s not to get to a low weight, it’s to get in the upper range of my BMI so it’s not like I’m close to my target either.
Don't worry and please don't get disheartened! You have just been through the Bootcamp equivalent of the doldrums - we know that weeks 3, 4 and sometimes even 5 can be weeks where we see little or no loss, and sometimes even a gain!. Ask yourself - are you enjoying your food? Do you feel deprived? How would you feel if you were on a low fat/low calorie diet? Would you even have stayed on a low fat/low calorie diet for this long?!
Am going to cut right back on dairy and stop having yoghurt and cream. The scales are just not moving for me and I don’t know what else to do.
Cut out the cream and cheese, if you must, but honestly I'd say just keep doing what you're doing. Your food looks lovely and sounds as if it's low carb/high fat.
See what happens this week before you make any changes.
@Elpheba
&1.5lb down after week 4 for me. Wish it was coming off faster as I feel cross at myself that I’ve got so much to lose. But trying to reassure myself that scales are moving in right direction and am finding it easier and easier to resist other food
No point being cross with yourself! That's wasted emotion. Just be pleased that you've lost 1.5lbs, and overall you've lost 5.5lbs. Being realistic, you shouldn't be expecting to be losing massive amounts every week from now on. I know that can feel frustrating, but this is a marathon not a sprint. The weight didn't all go on in one go so it's not going to come off in one go either.
@Bestbees
I don't really understand your post:
Morning. 1lb down so not too bad yesterday considering. I think what I am finding hard is I am the same weight I would be eating toast, big bags of crisps, jacket potatoes, drinking half a bottle of wine
And why did you have the pear?! At 15g carbs per 100g - it's really, really not allowed on Bootcamp.
If you're feeling bingy and hungry (really hungry, not just 'mouth hungry', which is a great expression!) then definitely stop the fasting. I'd also look to up the fat in your meals as your protein choices are fairly lean.
@ZiggZagg
3lbs off for me this week, I'm happy with that little whoosh, hopefully it will continue going down now!!
Great! That's not a little whoosh though - that's a definite whoosh.
@Jollyholibobs
I am just happy that this WOE allows me to feel relaxed around food after over 40 years + of yo-yo dieting and beating myself up
Absolutely. One of the best things about this WOE is that you can really enjoy your food!
I have to say, though, that as you are weighing in at 8 stone 5lbs, you probably really don't have much to lose, so you should expect a bit of bumping up and down. Unless you're incredibly short, you must be in the healthy BMI zone by now?
@Dailyhandtowelwash
I’ve put on and my total loss for this diet is 2.2lbs. I ate cheese twice at the weekend
Gaining weight and slow loss is very, very, VERY unlikely to be because you had cheese twice! It's much more likely to be because you're eating too many carbs, or not eating enough fat/drinking enough water.
Step back and have a look at what you've been eating, and check how well you've been following the rules. And list out for me your food/drinks over the last few days, so I can see if there's anything I can tweak for you.
@MaudesMum
Your menu today looks very sparse! And your lunch in particular.
b: Full fat yoghurt with cinnamon
L: sort of coleslaw with kimchi
D: cauliflower & leek cheesy bake
I'm assuming that you're a vegetarian? But even so, you need to be eating more protein, and just more in general. What sort of lunch is just coleslaw and kimchi?!
Please remember, this WOE is not about deprivation. We don't starve ourselves, and we should be eating plenty of good fats and protein.
This is a great post from @Ninkanink
Also don’t be tempted to cut back on food (unless you are very close to target weight) or especially fat - that will be counterproductive. Eat more veg, eat plenty of fat, drink lots of water. Cheese and cream, fine - halve what you’ve been having and see how you go, or cut out the cheese altogether and have cream (or vice versa)
Remember what I said previously - as fat cells empty they will be filled with water so there is a temporary ‘gain’ (or at least a levelling up) whilst the body does its thing - then, if you keep eating plenty of fat in the meantime, and don’t feed your system any forbidden carbs, the body will at some point process things, expel the water and get rid of the fat cells. That’s when you’ll have the whoosh
Focus on the good food, the long term health benefits, and especially on any NSVs you’ve had
@Cactusowl
I’m in week 6 and gained 0.6lbs this week but was 2.6lbs lighter yesterday
If you were 2.6lbs lighter yesterday, then that will be what you put in the spreadsheet! You won't have gained that much fat overnight.
@Underthebludgeoningsofchance
Yesterday, I made plaintain chips and scoffed most of them. Oops!
That's not an 'oops' that's an epic fail! Why? The fact that you made them is even worse. What were you thinking? Why are you sabotaging yourself like that? There are 32g carbs per 100g of plantain, which is massive!
This WOE is not one where you can cheat. And we're only just starting week 4. You've done really well so far, so why would you want to undo all that good work?
Which brings me to your next post:
Forgot to say, tomorrow is my birthday. I'm planning to have strawberries coated in dark chocolate. I really dislike dark chocolate so guess it will help me limit the numbers!
Does anyone have any ideas for a low carb cake?
I get that it's your birthday - but here again, you're obviously planning on cheating!
The strawberries aren't too bad - 5.8g carbs per 100g - but if you already know that you need to limit yourself somehow, by adding in the chocolate (more carbs!) then why do it? And as for cake - nobody (except small children perhaps!) needs cake on their birthday.
Don't do this to yourself! Give yourself the best birthday present of staying on track and seeing a loss next week.
Welcome back @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer - sorry you've had a stressful time. Now you're (hopefully!) through it, it's a good opportunity to look back and think about the food/drink that you had, and to try and identify other choices that you could have made. Using food/drink as an emotional crutch is something we all do, and it's a very hard habit to break - but it's a good idea to try and think about how you might deal with it next time. Because, sadly, there will be a next time!
As to your other question, what do you mean by 'fatter without putting on weight'?
@Lyrata
Sorry you had a bad day yesterday and I hope you're feeling better now. I'm not sure the cream crackers were the best idea though - half a packet of Jacob's Cream Crackers will have cost you 102g carbs! At least the scales have been kind to you today. Hopefully if you're super strict then the impact won't have been too bad.
@NotwatchingSpooks
However I am reminded that I am still 12.5lbs lighter than when I started in September. Bizarrely, a NSV, I have gone down between 2 and 3 notches on my belt, so I do wonder if I have just retained water, anyway I will KOKO
Very good post. Always good to step back and get an overall perspective on things! And also a very good example of why just using the scales to measure our progress isn't always the best. If your clothes are fitting better, this is a much more realistic way to show progress.
@Iamnotacerealkiller sounds like you're having a bit of a rough time - I don't envy you/anyone those early baby days! I would definitely try and eat something though as you do need to get good nutrition - and please don't stop drinking. That's equally important.
Also - half a pound lost is half a pound!
@PineappleSunglasses
I'm in the gained camp too and was a bit demoralised this morning but it's my TOTM, theres some stress in my family life currently and a busy weekend meant I definitely did not drink as much water as should have done! With all that being said I'm trying not to sweat the small stuff and focussing on the NSVs like the fact I'm sleeping so much better
Sorry you've gained, but absolutely this is the right perspective to have.
to everyone - good luck for the rest of the week.
