Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

758 replies

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

@ListenLinda

Wow that post was a most random collection of thoughts 😂
I'm always like that listenlinda! Grin

@BIWI

... or not buy it at all, if it's tempting you?
Point taken. I feel that I need to have something in for me as my house is full of temptation due to its other occupants, growing boys who definitely do not need to lose weight and consume food at a ridiculous rate sometimes. I don't think it's fair to deprive them of a few sweet treats just because I'm trying to address my weight, so there is always tempting food here. To be honest it's been less appealing than I thought it would be.

I'm actually really happy with what I'm eating and I'm not feeling at all deprived. My only issue so far has been PMT, which always sends me running for junk food. Managed to keep it to one little row of G&B dark and the bar has been open for days now.

If I lived alone I just wouldn't have any of it in the house.

LittleMy77 · 08/02/2021 19:03

@ShagMeRiggins I got a 4 pack just in case they tasted like crap. The entire house only demolished all of them so I just bought a box of 32 Grin great on soup or when you get the munchies

Patapouf · 08/02/2021 19:04

Hi everyone, I'm desperately trying to catch up on the thread. Didn't contribute much in the first week because it was so fast paced, and then I was very unwell and off piste for 10 days but back on it today and missing carbs terribly already
I feel like I've eaten a lot of cheese and eggs today, will meal plan tonight and shop tomorrow.
Any pointers for family friendly meals that my rice and pasta obsessed DS will like?

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 08/02/2021 19:05

This is going to sound a bit sad... but @BIWI’s statement of “you don’t have to eat cake on your birthday” was a lightbulb moment for me! I’ve spent the afternoon thinking about how much disappointing cake I’ve eaten and the uselessness of it... I think most other diets claim (lie) that you don’t need to be deprived, whereas the attitude here is “you’ve got to prioritise - do you want the cake or do you want to lose weight? It’s your choice” and that’s actually quite different and refreshing. I feel both more in control and more accountable!

My birthday is coming up. I’m thinking seriously low carb bread, some really good butter, cheese and charcuterie may be the way to go for a nice birthday meal! Does anyone know a particularly good charcuterie source, before I go over the top in Waitrose?

BIWI · 08/02/2021 19:06

@cheeseisthebest

Look what's happened to my low carb bread! It's still in date but I've had to throw it away. Gutted! I should have put it in the freezer.
You are told to put it in the freezer though! That's what it says on the bag!

@RagzReturnsRebooted

As it is still in date, I would ask for a refund/replacement.
They won't do that though, as she didn't follow the storage instructions

My husband made a vegan moussaka and I tried a mouthful. It was delicious but has lentils and beans. Is that off limits for me? If I can have it was going to have that for tea tomorrow as there's loads left

Definitely out for you - lentils and beans not allowed on Bootcamp.

LittleMy77 · 08/02/2021 19:20

@Patapouf we just make regular meals so dh and DS have pasta, rice etc and I don’t have my of that and have veg instead as my side dish

Lyrata · 08/02/2021 19:21

I like the 90% Lindt chocolate dipped in tea so it goes all melty and nice (also you have the additional reflex challenge of not dropping it in).

I’ve still felt a bit nauseous and weird today. I think I need to cut back on the dairy.

Breakfast: creamy coffee, bit of cheese
Snack: 90% Lindt chocolate (60g)
Lunch: spicy sausage soup + leftover slow cooked mutton
Dinner: tuna in ‘Tiger’s Milk’ - photos attached. Although shamelessly I did also add my normal mix of courgettes, aubergine and tomatoes once the photo was taken.

Oh are you? I didnt see that about putting it straight in the freezer. What a donut. What a waste of money.

I thought so! Cant even pretend I'm vegan too seeking as I've just eaten steak! Grin

cheeseisthebest · 08/02/2021 19:35

It was lovely though. Might make a meaty moussaka next week.

nowlook · 08/02/2021 19:37

@Lyrata
Another amazing meal from you! Of that ingredient list, I could just about rustle up the rolling pin GrinGrin

Hopeislost · 08/02/2021 19:40

@cheeseisthebest There's a great moussaka recipe in the recipes thread definitely not vegan!

Please don't be disheartened if you're sticking to bootcamp 100% and not seeing losses. I have been low carb since the May bootcamp and this is my last 3 weeks!

Week 1: 0.5lb loss
Week 2: 0.75lb gain
Week 3: 2.5lb loss

Livelongandprosper · 08/02/2021 19:53

I've stayed the same this week. However, the photos I've been taking each week of me trying on my target pair of jeans show a definite difference Smile

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 08/02/2021 20:05

@cheeseisthebest

I get smoked salmon every week now as a lockdown treat. We get our shopping from asda, home delivery, so it's very reasonably priced!

Is asda home delivery any good? DP keeps suggesting it but I'm worried they'll pick food that's been lying around longest which has put me off so far.

@cheeseisthebest

Look what's happened to my low carb bread! It's still in date but I've had to throw it away. Gutted! I should have put it in the freezer.

Happened to me. I emailed them, explained I noticed the day after my bread arrived that the loaves were mouldy and attached photos showing the mould and the date on the sticker.

They dispatched a fresh order before they replied, no questions asked at all. They told me they have a 'make it right' policy which means they will fix any issues immediately to keep customers happy.
I also got a replacement batch when the delivery driver delivered to the wrong address. I emailed immediately to put a stop to the replacement order after my delivery was brought round but they insisted I get it anyway as a gesture of goodwill. Can't fault their customer service Smile

BustleInYourHedgerow · 08/02/2021 20:05

@stuntnun what you've said about weight loss is so true. Im going keep it in mind. I'm so tired of yo yoing. And now I'm the heaviest I've ever been and I hate it.

@ouchmyfeet Aldi and Lidl usually have individually wrapped bars in a pack of five. The Aldi version is called Moser Roth.And the chocolate is very good quality.

@cheeseisthebest your food today sounded delicious!

@Patapouf Glad you are on the mend. I have been cooking pasta and rislce for the rest of the family... My boys have a huge appetite and are growing so much that they need it.

Tonight we had Bolognase and I had sautéed courgette and aubergine strips, they had pasta and garlic bread. We all had green salad on the side too. I prepped the veg beforehand and sautéed it quickly on a hot pan whilsthe pasta was cooking. Otherwise I just do an extra portion of broccoli, cauliflower for myself and have it with lots of butter.

Livelongandprosper That's great! I must do this, it will motivate me for the inevitable plateau.

Today I ate:

B :Greek Yoghurt with cream
L:Egg mayo with spring onion and parsley, lots of mixed greens with spinach and some cold ham.

D : Bolognase (I made the sauce completely different to how I normally do, I usually roast peppers and dice carrots, use wine and milk...) I used one tin of tomatoes, a tablespoon of tomato puree, sweated shallots, garlic and diced celery. I added freah oregano and thyme. A dash of red wine vinegar and some Nutmeg. Two pounds of minced beef and a small packet of smoked lardons. (made enough for 8 as I always freeze half).

I had sautéed sliced courgette and aubergine on the side and some salad leaves with oily dressing. Oh and some parmesan.

Drank 3l + of water.
1 creamy coffee.
2 green teas.

5k run.

cheeseisthebest · 08/02/2021 20:17

Thank you. Yes Asda has been brilliant. I dont get meat from there as we can walk to a farm and get meat but we've found Asda to be great, it's cheaper too
We never used to shop at asda before lockdown.

cheeseisthebest · 08/02/2021 20:19

Oh that's interesting about the bread. I just saw the best before date and didn't read anything else!

Sorry the thank you was for saying my food sounded delicious! I really like the messes (which I've decided to call them!) That I've been having for my lunches!!

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 08/02/2021 20:24

@NotwatchingSpooks

P.s welcome back BuffyTheBuffetSlayer glad you managed to get your course work done and glad you are back

Thanks, I'm definitely sticking to checking in, I need the accountability, support and motivation! I think one week before submission date I had 4 chinese takeaway, domino's pizza and a kebab plus surviving on 2 to 3 hours of broken sleep a night!
So glad block 2 is done, that'll teach me for falling so far behind!

@BIWI

Welcome back @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer - sorry you've had a stressful time. Now you're (hopefully!) through it, it's a good opportunity to look back and think about the food/drink that you had, and to try and identify other choices that you could have made. Using food/drink as an emotional crutch is something we all do, and it's a very hard habit to break - but it's a good idea to try and think about how you might deal with it next time. Because, sadly, there will be a next time!

You're right, my eating got totally out of control. Ive set myself right back and now tired all the time, lethargic, wake up with back ache and just been told I have arthritis in my knees so need to lose weight asap Blush
What I meant by getting fatter without putting on weight is I got really fat, like nearly 2 sizes up, but my massive size increase isnt reflected on the scales. Last time I was this size I was 16st 4, but my scales have barely increased from the 14st 3 I was last bootcamp and much smaller. Weight this morning was 14st 7.

ZiggZagg · 08/02/2021 20:25

Guys, I've decided to do a tapas style meal for Valentines Day, can you give me some ideas please? All low carb, lots of fat and no pork or alcohol if possible Grin

cheeseisthebest · 08/02/2021 20:30

Tapenade?
Olives
Cheese
Chorizo
Some sort of fried courgettes or aubergine.

cheeseisthebest · 08/02/2021 20:31

Re your post buffy, good luck and welcome back!

oscarandelliesdad · 08/02/2021 20:33

Evening all. Well managed to not gain this week so I'm taking it as a win Grin
B- creamy coffee
L- cheesy omelet (kids fed all my veg to the guinea pigs so fail there)
D - tuna steak with courgettes and Greek salad (post trip to supermarket) all fried, loads of sesame oil today. Managed my water but probably not enough veg. Apparently guinea pigs are cuter and like kale more than I do.
