Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

@catwithflowers I love fathead pizza! I use the diet Doctor recipe, which has vinegar in, but it looks almost identical!

@Oneborneverydecade I use the cheeky wipes ones overnight and have never leaked, but haven't tested them in daytime.

cheeseisthebest · 14/02/2021 18:01

Soup nice for lunch too.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 14/02/2021 18:10

We’ve got a block of mozzarella from our local wholesaler. They’re selling directly to the public at the moment because the restaurants are closed. £12 for a block that’s lasted us two months of weekly homemade pizza nights (there are six of us). Might be worth seeing if you have anything like it locally?

I’m about to commit Bad Things with dinner tonight as the potatoes I knew about have been joined by the starter (not scallops but Coquilles St Jacques, so extra potato).

We had a lovely meal last night of ribeye steak with dirty celeriac fries (absolutely epic), and homemade red cabbage and kohlrabi coleslaw. Tasted amazing and not remotely diet food and I woke up this morning 2lbs heavier so go figure. There was a small amount of squeezy cheese but otherwise the whole meal was super compliant with severe boot camp! (I did have a glass of red wine though - a small one.)

Getting fatty meat here is so hard because people don’t want it and the butchers trim EVERYTHING. To get an untrimmed rib of beef at Christmas I had to plead with one of them. But I did score a lovely pork belly joint yesterday, left sitting sadly on the shelf because of the fat layer.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 14/02/2021 18:11

And thanks for fathead pizza recipe. Has anyone tried it in a pizza oven? I got DH one for Christmas and it makes delicious pizzas but it’s an intense cooking experience - would that dough hold?

StuntNun · 14/02/2021 18:17

If you've just started losing weight (by any method, not just low carb) then your periods can be disrupted by the oestrone hormone which is stored in fat cells. This weak form of oestrogen can cause mid-cycle bleeding (looks like an extra period mid-cycle), return of periods after menopause, or breakthrough bleeding if you're on hormonal contraception or have a coil. After 2-3 cycles your oestrogen levels will have reduced to compensate and any disruption will stop.

Hopeislost · 14/02/2021 18:25

@Dailyhandtowelwash The diet Doctor instructions get you to precook the fathead crust before you put toppings on, which helps it stay together.

ZiggZagg · 14/02/2021 18:39

Evening campers!!

Tapas went down well, all low carb bootcamp friendly then DH produced a gorgeous biscotti cheesecake. I'm definitely eating it, if only the cheese and not the cake!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 14/02/2021 19:23

I used to like fathead pizza but I found anything with large quantities of almond in gave me awful stomach ache. Tried it with coconut flour but didn't like the coconut flavour. I fancy trying meat base though, more meat is always welcome!

catwithflowers · 14/02/2021 19:24

@Hopeislost What does the vinegar do?

BustleInYourHedgerow · 14/02/2021 19:24

Thanks for that info Stuntnun. You are a foundation of knowledge!

I had duck breast and roasted cauliflower for dinner. Grim. Husband was cooking stir fry and noodles to go with the duck and I went through what to put in the Stirfry, ginger, pak Choi, cucumber, baby corn, shallots. Yum. I roasted some cauliflower on the side because I thought the stir fry was meagre. Grand. Sat down to eat and the stir fry tasted really sweet? He had added some teriaki sauce that has fructose syrup as the second ingredient. Ugh. Good thing I roasted the cauliflower but dinner was very unsatisfying.

Oh well I'm off work tomorrow so will just do the cooking.

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/02/2021 19:41

Just made a lovely roast chicken dinner , think I over vegged
Cauli cheese , kale , broccoli , fine beans ( and a couple of carrot discs to make the plate look pretty 😍 )
There’s enough veg for a fry up tomorrow lunch time , not all bad news !
DH ( well trained over the years ) bought me some posh scented candles for Valentines , I won’t be tempted to eat them !

@Justcallmecaptainobvious Tesco do some good frozen veg , get some frozen mushroom medley and some shallots , add some butter, chicken or veg stock cube , blitz add cream , almost instant 5 minute soup ( frozen leeks are good too , but are a bit tough , even after blending ) frozen broccoli and cauli are useful for soup too
A good fry up for lunch , just make sure you make too much dinner , and fry it up for lunch
Pate ? With some celery or cucumber to spread it on
Or my favourite.. cheese 😍

Howdidthathappen1 · 14/02/2021 19:45

Is anyone else concerned that their other half is gonna be the size of a house from joining in with all the lovely high fat meals but supplementing with carbs!?
Dh is already not exactly small and I'm genuinely concerned about the health implications for him eating high fat and high carb but I don't have a chance of him even attempting the woe.
So todays dinner was roast chicken, flgv and celeriac dauphinois - so chicken skin, butter, cream and cheese!! However hes had sandwiches for lunch and is currently munching on garlic bread pinched from dd's valentines dinner!!
Previous to me doing this it wasn't so bad due to less focus on fat.

Lyrata · 14/02/2021 19:55

Valentine’s Day dinner done. Steak + rocket salad with olive oil and salt, whipped bone marrow and chimmichurri. And ramen with a whole range of low-carb toppings.

Feel slightly poisoned with the amount of food but it was delicious.

I hope everyone else’s food has gone well!

Forgot to post my meals for the day...
B: none as I fast 16:8.
L: bacon, eggs and mushrooms.
Snack: cheese muffin with lots of butter.
D: roast chicken with braised celery and roasted broccoli.
Also too many Valentines Day chocolates because I have no self-control. Why couldn't DH have bought me some lingerie or something else non-edible? I know he means well but he can tolerate the extra carbs if he indulges not fair why is it easier for men?!

Ninkanink · 14/02/2021 20:04

Lunch was a cheesy omelette with mushrooms and chives. DH had his on a piece of toast. I had a bowl of buttered sprouts with garlic and salt as well.

Dinner was yummy! Had a cobra to drink with it.

Hope you all had a lovely day. Flowers

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 14/02/2021 20:08

Thanks for the lunch ideas!

@Howdidthathappen1 the thought has crossed my mind! Mine started eating the same as me, lost loads in the first two weeks, but has been back on bread and chocolate this week.

catwithflowers · 14/02/2021 20:29

@Howdidthathappen1 I had the same thought earlier today 🙈🙈

BIWI · 14/02/2021 20:36

Well, they're grown adults ...

You can explain what low carbing is about and point out that they can either have carbs or fat but not both. If they choose both, that's their look out!

CaptainOmelette · 14/02/2021 20:52

Well I’ve had an absolutely rubbish eating day, yes low carb but definitely not healthy. B was scrambled eggs with mushrooms/pepper/shallot but lunch was three pepperamis and dinner was a 1/2 bar of 90% chocolate. Have come to bed just to get the day over. Refocusing tomorrow, new week...B - scrambled eggs & mushrooms, L - sardine salad D - Bolognese

venusandmars · 14/02/2021 20:54

@Justcallmecaptainobvious I made meat loaf last week (wrapped in bacon). Would be ace for lunches.

venusandmars · 14/02/2021 21:04

So much deliciousness...
Back to strict BC tomorrow.

@Lyrata and @venusandmars your meals look amazing.

@CaptainOmelette sorry to hear you've had a crap day, fingers crossed tomorrow is a fresh start

cheeseisthebest · 14/02/2021 21:24

I'm slipping back a bit. Still low carbing but boredom eating! Just had low carb toast with marmite and a lot of cream cheese. Mmm. But was total boredom eating, not hunger.

Lyrata · 14/02/2021 21:25

That looks so good @venusandmars! What was the nicest course? Would you recommend it?

Ah sorry you’ve had a bad day @CaptainOmelette. Well done for it not being worse though. Even if it’s not technically healthy, at least you haven’t eaten a load of carbs that will cause cravings etc. So well done. Sometimes unhealthy low carb is the best you can do!

prettybird · 14/02/2021 21:30

A bit too much alcohol has been consumed Blush but a lovely meal of tiger prawns with home made aioli followed by roasted monkfish, celeriac dauphinoise and Savoy cabbage with crispy bacon.
