Welcome @OakSnows
Think I’m going to spend about a week reading and learning and shopping and start a week Monday
Good plan - make sure you've read all the rules, which are on the spreadsheet, along with lots of resources that will help you understand Bootcamp.
You need to know, though, that Bootcamp isn't keto - although we keep our carbs low, we don't count them. Keto is, as far as I understand it, much stricter, with a daily allowance of no more than 20g carbs.
What apps/websites etc do people use? Happy to pay for some of them if they are genuinely helpful, think I’d rather real food than shakes etc
I don't use any apps, although I know some do. Some people use one to help them drink the amount of water that they should do. And definitely agree about the real food! This is exactly what we advocate on Bootcamp - real food, that's as unprocessed as possible.
Welcome too to @LittleMissPlump (you'll have to change that username soon!)
I really need to make some changes to my eating habits and the thought of not feeling hungry between meals is very appealing!
It's one of the most important benefits of a low carb diet, and it's what helps us to stay 'on course'. People are often criticised for having no willpower when it comes to dieting, and it couldn't be further from the truth. A high carbohydrate diet - which is inevitably what you end up eating if you cut out fat - means that you will be getting hungry between meals, and thus easily tempted to 'give in' and eat something. Because a low carb diet helps to keep your blood sugar levels even you won't find this happening to you. (Although this will take a couple of weeks to take effect).
I’m sorry if these questions have been asked before
As you're new, you're forgiven
. However, one of the things that I do ask people is that they read all the posts on each Bootcamp chat thread, as otherwise you'll miss out on lots of stuff, and it becomes very irritating to have to answer the same questions again!
what are people eating for breakfast?
Anything they want - as long as it's low carb! It's only because of Mr Kellogg that we think we have to eat special food at breakfast time. That said, yoghurt and eggs feature a lot in people's diets (if they're eating breakfast - after the first two weeks of Bootcamp you can skip breakfast if you want to, which means you'll be introducing intermittent fasting)
And is there a lactose free version of the full fat Greek yogurt available does anyone know?
it looks like Tesco makes one, and it's also high fat, which is good!
Third and final question but what dressings are people using for their salads?
The best dressing is one that you've made yourself. Shop-bought ones often have sugar in them, which is what we're trying to avoid. So an oily dressing like a vinaigrette - here are quantities for a basic vinaigrette:
3-5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (adjust the amount of oil to suit your taste, but try to keep it on the higher side)
1 tablespoon of wine or cider vinegar (not balsamic vinegar as this is too carby, unlike wine/cider vinegars)
salt and pepper to taste
You can add to this - so either Dijon or wholemeal mustard, or some finely chopped garlic, or a little horseradish.
Otherwise, a good mayonnaise - just watch the carb count, as these do vary.
Thanks so much in advance of your help... I’m really excited that this way of eating might bring me some calmness to my anxiety and to my relationship with food
I think and hope that it will! You'll certainly find lots of help, support and general friendship on Bootcamp
