This Bootcamp has gone crazy! I'm very hopeful that means that the results on the scales/with the tape measure etc will have been positive.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I love this week. For so many, it's a total vindication as well as complete reassurance that this WOE really works!

I hope, very much, that the scales are kind to you and look forward to hearing everyone's progress.

@WellityWellityWellity

Hello!

Extremely late to the party, but wonder if it would be ok to join you? If not, no problem and I'll lurk Grin.

Hi and welcome! Flowers of course it’s fine to join us, and @BIWI will be along soon to officially welcome you, I’m sure! You’ll need to start with the two bootcamp weeks to get your body fat adapted, so have a look at the rules and do some reading on the spreadsheet.
Ninkanink · 30/01/2021 11:19

@ouchmyfeet

Regardless of weight loss I am really enjoying this WOE. I'm not really feeling any cravings for snacks or anything and the thought of eating rice or pasta or chocolate doesn't feel nice. I've also noticed I have been waking up really fresh and well rested.

This is how I feel, I have a lot to lose and feel like I could carry in with full on bootcamp, rather than switching to the less strict, light version. I assume that wouldn't be a problem? I can't see what about this WOE would be unhealthy if followed for a sustained period.

It’s absolutely fine. I usually continue with bootcamp proper for at least 4 weeks but this year I’m going on to light.

Or some people do bootcamp proper during the week and bootcamp lite at the weekend.

wanderlove · 30/01/2021 11:22

So following biwis advice I'm going to have a couple of dairy free days whilst chugging water non-stop. Lots of salmon , coconut milk sauces , avocado, eggs and olive oil with everything! It's so inspiring seeing everyone's gorgeous recipes

@BrassicaBabe

ADHD post: I've been aware of my shortcomings for decades. I put things off, I stress about them, I still dont do them, I stress some more. I'm quite bright but I failed in education because I didn't/couldn't study. I now know that's because simple tasks overwhelm me and I can't focus/concentrate. I'd buy birthday cards but never send them. Small tasks like posting a card just felt too hard. (That one is very difficult to explain. It sounds so daft ). I am super focused and successful when something interests me. But can't concentrate on tasks that are more mundane and don't light me up. My mental motor was always ON, a spinning top that someone had wound up to max.

I had the gradual realisation that I probably had ADHD over a few years. But couldn't see the point in getting a label at 45, 46, 47 etc. After all outwardly at least I'm on my game and doing quite well. Then someone in our extended circle got diagnosed and medicated. I spoke to her over Xmas and. decided to proceed. Booked the appointment and had to wait until 19th jan. (This caused the stress that made my sodding Xmas weight cling on!!). Had the appointment over zoom. (Went direct. Paid privately). Diagnosis confirmed and meds came through the post.

Took first dose on Monday. I cried!! I'm not a crier. I felt so calm. The motor of thoughts in my head that was constantly running stopped. Like constant voices (not voices! Just me) nagging me about my to-do list stoped. I could relax properly. I could stop scrolling manically through the apps on my phone. Big one...I didn't feel I needed wine! Dry January has been a bitch! Now I know it wasn't just the desire for alcohol but I was using alcohol as a poor tool to help me switch off. Once the meds started DJ was easy!!

This week I have completed at least 4 tasks that I've been putting off for MONTHS. I focused on dull but important meetings and contributed. I was able to help DS with his homework for maybe the first time ever Sad. No wine with ease. Last night had one glass and I was happy with that. Didn't need to keep going to keep the motor turned off. Watched a TV program with subtitles! (Could never have concentrated on that before). Was able to put my phone down!

Oh and I've lost 3-4lbs because I'm not stressed!! Grin

It's a bloody revelation!

@BrassicaBabe I could have written this too (and you did so beautifully). I was diagnosed with ADHD in autumn 2019. It was a revelation in terms of forgiving myself finally for all my ‘faults’ and realising that my lifelong depression was intrinsically linked to the ADHD. One of my friends has since got her own diagnosis and her life has totally changed.

The only thing, sadly, that I can’t relate to is meds’ changing things. I have tried two other meds which haven’t really worked for me, and I have a really poor doctor who tells me I can’t try Elvanse because ‘it’s just the same as all other stimulant meds’ and is making me try one I know doesn’t do much all over again. I have no idea why he’s so stubborn. I’ve got an appointment tomorrow so I’m newly resolved to make a fuss.

Your weight loss will hopefully be helped by the meds as they speed up the metabolism, but you’ll know that!

StuntNun · 30/01/2021 11:24

Brassica see how you go with dosage. My DS1 is 18 years old and still on almost the same dose he was on at 7 years on (only 36mg instead of 30mg because it's a different extended release formulation that only comes in multiples of 18mg for some reason.) When his dosage has been too high then it's left him a bit zombie-like. So more isn't necessarily better, it's about finding the optimal dose for you. Also, DS1 experiences an interaction between caffeine and methylphenidate so if he has too much caffeine it becomes more effective. Elvanse has a different active ingredient so I don't know whether caffeine has the same effect. Have you been told not to take Sudafed with your ADHD medication? Afaik there's a dangerous drug interaction between the two.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 30/01/2021 11:28
@BrassicaBabe amazing! You sound just like me, but I've never seen the point in being assessed! I'm on all sorts of medication for depression and anxiety but have made no difference to my motivation to do boring things (which I have to do in my job) or my concentration and organization!

Where did you go to be assessed?
Depression and anxiety are extremely common in people with undiagnosed neurodiversity. ADHD also often goes hand in hand with a horrible thing (which I now know I have) called Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria. There’s no clear view yet on whether this comes from a quirk of the ADHD brain or from the conditioning that you get growing up with ADHD behaviours, but it’s so interesting:

Thank you @Ninkanink Smile.

I am going to write a shopping list based on 2 week starter rules! Will weigh in when you guys do it next.

cheeseisthebest · 30/01/2021 11:49

I'm big time back on it. Although we are flooded in and we cant get out of our village and dont think our shopping delivery will get in!

ZiggZagg · 30/01/2021 11:49

@Dailyhandtowelwash wow! That is me 100% I tend to strive for perfection but always waiting for people to "catch me out". When it gets really bad, I just completely avoid doing things Sad

BrassicaBabe · 30/01/2021 12:02

I was ok with caffeine for a few days Stunt but yesterday and today it feels like I've had double!! Teeth clenching the works. Sadly I might need to address my 30 year Diet Coke habit 🤣🤣 (which BIWI has been known to pull me up on. Memory like an elephant that one! 🤣)

StuntNun · 30/01/2021 12:04

You can get caffeine-free Diet Coke Brassica shh don't tell BIWI I told you. Wink

Dailyhandtowelwash · 30/01/2021 12:06

Anyone considering getting diagnosed should definitely look into it. I live in a house of six and between us we have three people with ADHD, two with ASD and two with autistic traits. Knowing what makes us all tick is so helpful!

StuntNun · 30/01/2021 12:07

The egg bites were wonderful, I must make them again. They're a lot like a quiche filling but the egg stays soft, more of a scrambled egg texture.

2nd week of Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp! But our third thread!
Dailyhandtowelwash · 30/01/2021 12:08

On a different note I just wanted to share my lunch, because it looks so pretty!

Lunch: crab, avocado, njuda and lemon mayonnaise in little gem lettuce, with prawns

Dinner: game casserole with cauliflower mash and greens

I have body eumorphia today. I feel very slim so tried on my nice clothes. They don't fit.

I wondered what the post record for week 2 is Biwi and other life-servers?

You sound a different person Brassica. Thrilled for you!

Both DSs and DDogs are asleep; DH has gone to get an MOT for his car, so I have a wonderfully quiet house.

Motivateinmotion · 30/01/2021 12:23

@BrassicaBabe so lovely to hear how positively the diagnosis and meds have affected your life!

pinkpinkeverywhere · 30/01/2021 12:25

Hi everyone, having laptop disasters here and have missed checking in properly. However have been sticking to the plan and am losing weight steadily. Found Friday night with no gin and smelling pain au chocolate cooking this morning quite difficult, but I got through it by thinking about the lovely new clothes I'm going to treat myself to in the summer!
Really sorry to ask, but please could someone share a cheese sauce recipe? I have looked on the recipe thread, but I don't think the one I found was the one everyone is raving about?

crackofdoom · 30/01/2021 12:38

Hello peeps!

Well, I started early, so I'm now on week 3.5, and this week weight loss has stalled, as expected. Annoying, because my target loss is 8lbs, and I'm on 6-7lbs, depending on the day Hmm. Also premenstrual, and feeling crampy and horribly bloated.

Yesterday's menu: L: Total Greek yogurt with a dessertspoonful of tahini

D: 2 boiled eggs in mayonnaise w/ celery (starter), quorn "bolognese" (with leeks, garlics, stock and shedloads of olive oil) with ample cheese grated on top, leek and mascarpone bake, sprouts.

(nb: am vegetarian, so allowing myself to eat quorn, ample dairy and tahini. There's only so many eggs and tofu one woman can take!)

I've got a couple of problematic meals coming up over the next few days. Firstly, this evening I have a gentleman friend coming over (we're bubbling), and will be making sag paneer, something with aubergines, lentil daal, and some rice for him. Hopefully the lentils won't be too bad, if I have a spoonful. (also lashings of vodka and diet tonic, in a fond farewell to dry January Grin).

Secondly- and this is worse- it's DS1's 11th birthday on Wednesday. Now, I always make elaborately decorated birthday cakes for the DC's birthdays- slathered in buttercream, topped in sweets, etc. This year I'm pondering a Minecraft cake. So far I have managed to stand firm against sampling bits when baking with the DC, but in this situation there is NO WAY I'm going to avoid licking my fingers a bit, and not joining him in a slice, when the only birthday celebration the poor kid's going to get this year is a meal with me and his brother, is going to be downright impossible.

Plus, I'm planning on asking him what he wants for his birthday meal, and he's going to want me to share it. He might opt for a takeaway- if I could steer him towards Indian it would be easier, but he might choose the local Chinese, and I strongly suspect that all their veggie dishes have got a lot of sugar in their sauces.

How can I undo the damage in all this? Egg fast for a couple of days afterwards??

Yes, I'm autistic, and have a good friend with ADHD. Comparing the similarities and differences between the ways our minds work is endlessly fascinating.

"Your weight loss will hopefully be helped by the meds as they speed up the metabolism, but you’ll know that!" Stunt I hadn't picked that one up yet. Rats, now I feel like I'm cheating Sad

Lyrata · 30/01/2021 13:41

Ahh that description of rejection dysphoria resonates loads with me. Might put that in a box and never look at it again.

@StuntNun my egg bites weren’t like that - they were far smoother! I think I googled for ‘Starbucks Egg Bite recipes’ or something to that effect and found a website that had experimented with 3 versions: egg + 1. Milk, 2. Double cream, 3. Blended cottage cheese.

Their conclusion was that the cottage cheese was nicest, I think, but I ended up using milk because that was all I had - and then I repeated it in future (I wasn’t LC at the time) - and it was very flan like in texture.

@crackofdoom This woe is rather unforgiving so it would be easier to minimise damage in the first place than try to mitigate it afterwards. And I say this as someone who made two family birthday cakes this week and didn't eat any of either!
