2nd week of Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp! But our third thread!

BIWI · 25/01/2021 00:13

This Bootcamp has gone crazy! I'm very hopeful that means that the results on the scales/with the tape measure etc will have been positive.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I love this week. For so many, it's a total vindication as well as complete reassurance that this WOE really works!

I hope, very much, that the scales are kind to you and look forward to hearing everyone's progress.

Your MIL sounds formidable @nowlookGrin

@AthelstaneTheUnready sorry you're feeling down & twitchy. Not surprising really. Times are not currently conducive to relaxation, & you've booted the fags! No advice to give, just sympathy Thanks

Bumbledee · 26/01/2021 15:00

@venusandmars that's a great poem! @BIWI that's really chuckle-worthy!

@AthelstaneTheUnready do you like fidget toys? I've found these really help me deal with anxiety, stress and general lockdown twitchiness! :D I hope the rest of the week goes well for you.

I've finally weighed myself today and I am back down to the 60 kilos that I was at the beginning of Easing-in-week. According to the spreadsheet it's a loss of 1.2 pounds. I hope this means I will lose more weight this week, keeping my fingers crossed.

Today's meals as eaten and planned:
B: 1 large egg boiled with smoked salmon
L: yesterday's meatballs with a salad with oily dressing.
D: This is most likely going to be lamb shanks, roasted veggies and a raita with full fat yoghurt.

LazydaysofSummer · 26/01/2021 15:10

@AthelstaneTheUnready I find background music can really lift my spirits when I'm not in the mood. Obviously depends on the music, but something upbeat and familiar which means you don't actually need to listen too usually fits the bill.

Primitivo · 26/01/2021 15:30

Cauliflower rice opinions please! I've just bought M&S cauli rice for the first time and was really impressed with the 'riceyness' compared to my usual grating, but dismayed at the plastic bag in a plastic bag packaging. Can anyone recommend a good brand of cauli rice that comes in a fair sized packet, that doesn't have too many plastic bags involved? Thanks!

I've noticed Im getting stuck fridge foraging rather than planning meals out. Means I rely too heavily on lumps of cheese...

Finally, what's the consensus on miso? Yay or nay?

Thanks!

LostaraYil · 26/01/2021 15:36

Loving the poetry!
TMI, but I think something has affected my digestive system and given me stomach cramps and definitely cleared out any blockages. Not sure whether it's celery or maybe the low carb rolls? I might have to weigh myself again!
Still eating though, lunch was left over pork shoulder and cauliflower cheese, dinner will be steak and salad with avocado. I fancy a decaf coffee with cream but not sure my stomach can handle it right now.

poorbuthappy · 26/01/2021 15:37

Speaking of NSVs...

1 of my major customers at the mo is called NSV.
When I was asked in a meeting what their full name was I had to stop myself saying non scale victory...I was squirming trying to remember.

OneFootintheRave · 26/01/2021 15:41

Found you allGrin well done to all the losers, I am pretty steady this week and this morning went up a tiny bit (though I'm not far from my goal weight so I understand loss will slow (also sneaked some nuts).

My new strategy is to add my weight to the sheet on a Friday morning.

Made a large celeriac dauphinois and will now portion it up to eat this week.

NotwatchingSpooks · 26/01/2021 15:43

@AthelstaneTheUnready sorry your having a tough day, I hope that this thread has at least raised your spirits a little.

My dd2 who has a learning disability, looked at me yesterday over dinner, after we had , had what I thought was a very pleasant day and announced "I've really had enough of you!!!" , harsh but I did get where she was coming from, but really??

Thank you @nowlook for "norks are as of this morning fully accommodated by their bra cups, as well they should be.", thank you it was the "as well they should be" that made me snort.

I also liked "that kitchens never seen an onion" I will be saving that for the future, thank you

I am also experiencing lockdown/shielding boredom, just had to eat a bit of chorizo and have had an extra decaf coffee.

IncurablyCurious · 26/01/2021 15:45

Gosh, I fell behind because it was all moving so fast - only just managed to catch up! I missed Burns night - disaster! Will have to try to fashion a low-carb haggis equivalent for the weekend to make up for it. Loving all the poetry, BIWI, you had me snorting very unattractively into my tea with yours Grin

I was v lackadaisical last week; was too shattered from previous couple of exam weeks to do hardcore bootcamp, so only lost a couple of pounds. But, onwards and upwards, have a nice strict week planned. Think I might have veered a bit dairy-heavy, so need to try to include more meat and such.

I'm really struggling with sleep, and craving carbs in lieu. Trying to stay reasonably full to avoid making grabby-hands at DP's snacks!

B: Cold cheeseburger pie & coffee
L: Burrata salad
D: Steak & broccoli w/bearnaise

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/01/2021 15:48

"My dd2 who has a learning disability, looked at me yesterday over dinner, after we had , had what I thought was a very pleasant day and announced "I've really had enough of you!!!" , harsh but I did get where she was coming from, but really??"

I passed a woman in the park the other day who's prepubescent son was shouting "no!! I don't want to! I'm with you ALL THE TIME NOW ANYWAY!!!" at her. They both looked near tears.

It's really tough atm.

MrsTaytodarling · 26/01/2021 16:01

No breakfast it's not my thing.
L-omelette with bacon and cheese
D- pork chops with crackling, leftover baked creamy leeks, mashed turnip Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 26/01/2021 16:14

Here’s a goal photo for this Bootcamp. To zip it up, even if stuffed.

This made me think how I’m feeling incredibly loose in the jeans I wear from the next size up. I have to belt them, always (yeah, sure, let’s pretend belt is a verb in the sense of clothing rather than physical assault).

Anyway, I felt glorious and slender in my size 16 jeans, and these are size 14.

I reckon even Natalie Portman or Anna Kendrick (both short and very slim) have an “OMG IM SO FAT” moment when putting on clothes that are too small.

So it’s not just us. KOKO

ShagMeRiggins · 26/01/2021 16:15

poorbuthappy, that’s funny. Hope you remember NSV’s name in time.

OneFootintheRave · 26/01/2021 16:31
@venusandmars' poem reminds me of this:

Prince Charles is visiting Borders General hospital. He enters a ward full of patients with no obvious sign of injury or illness and greets one.

The patient replies,

"Fair fa your honest sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin race,
Aboon them a ye take yer place,
Painch, tripe or thairm,
As langs my airm."

Charles is confused, so he just grins and moves on to the next patient.

The patient responds,

"Some hae meat an canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat an we can eat,
So let the Lord be thankit."

Even more confused, and his grin now rictus-like, the Prince moves on to the next patient, who immediately begins to chant,

"Wee sleekit, cowerin, timrous beasty,
O the panic in thy breasty,
Thou needna start awa sae hastie,
Wi bickering brattle."

Now seriously troubled, Charles turns to the accompanying doctor and asks "Is this a psychiatric ward?"

"No," replies the doctor,
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
"This is the serious Burns unit."
prettybird · 26/01/2021 16:36

ShagMeRiggins - that will be a great progress picture. You will be doing that zip up soon Grin

You've inspired me to take a picture in the next day or so of my attempt to wear my button up the front Nicole Farhi dress. At the moment, if I can do it up at all, there will be massive gaps and I will be a buxom wench exploding out the top Wink

But hopefully by my 60th, it will be wearable in company again Smile

Almahart · 26/01/2021 16:43

Running out of ideas for nice things to eat so am going to sit down with the recipe threads and a notebook tonight.

I clocked the sausage and cabbage lasagna a pp linked to in the Guardian too. Looks delicious.

NSV, able to fit into jeans that have been too tight for years and what's more, wear them for a day of wfh in complete comfort!

Mixitupalot · 26/01/2021 17:04

Sorry, I've missed loads and will catch up tonight. I was just wondering if i can have 1 or 2 beef sausages? Are they ok carb wise, i was thinking of having them after my run tonight.

Well done everyone on the losses I've sen so far...amazing.

Bestbees · 26/01/2021 17:05

@Hopeislost thanks for that recipe. It has lentils, so will wait until bootcamp is over, or maybe replace with some thing else - diced mushrooms maybe?

I am Hungry today! Came home and munched two boiled eggs with mayo and a wedge of cheese. Then looked at the clock and realised that it was close to my usual dinner time (eating later without kids tonight) so I guess that explains it. Will just eat a smaller portion of dinner.

For more experience low carb people: I have read people talking about appetite dropping and only going to 2 meals etc. I am wondering if I am more suited (and my lifestyle) is more suited to 4 smaller meals? Is that a bad idea? Find that I am really full after eating meals, but don't want to stop as I will otherwise be hungry later (dinner at 5.30, if not bug enough I end up snacking at 9ish). So smaller portion of dinner and something allowed at 9 like cheese/egg/meat? Or koko focusing on 3 meals and making them bigger. Wonder if anyone else feels like this?

BIWI · 26/01/2021 17:06

Phew - I've just caught up with the thread now too!

Can you see my Halo? Rather than go for a walk, because it's horrible weather and I couldn't be arsed I have done a thorough, deep clean of the kitchen. Not just cupboards and worktops, but the glass splashback (that goes round half of the kitchen), the ovens, both oven trays and 3 oven shelves. Cleaned the filter over the hob and washed the floor. I reckon that has used more calories than going for a walk! It took bloody ages, and I've wrecked my fingers with the wire wool I had to use on the oven shelves.

Then I realised I hadn't planned anything to cook for tonight, so we're eating out of the freezer. DH/DS will be having lasagne that I made earlier, and I'll cobble something together with Bare Naked Noodles. Feel like a glass of wine, but will not give in, especially as it's only Tuesday!

Check the carb count on the packaging of sausages. Generally they’re fine but it’s important to use high quality sausages (less crappy carby filler).
ShagMeRiggins · 26/01/2021 17:15

Marigolds are your friend. Hmm

Well done on the deep clean, though.

I know 18 Jan was supposed to be Doomsday for all, but I see a lot of Poole here and in my real life struggling today.

Just keep at it, everyone.

For those “cheating,” just stop it. You’re only cheating yourselves, and you’re worth more than that.

For those sticking to it, even struggling, thank you and well done and please keep sharing, especially how you’ve managed to not give in to the Fuck Its.

WATER!!!!!

Frty · 26/01/2021 17:20

... serious Burns unit, tehee. Passed that straight to Scottish husband, thank you.

nowlook · 26/01/2021 17:21

Another solid few hours of drafting here! You'll get into those jeans, no bother, Shag. Vanity precludes me from posting a photo, but I hope that by the end of this BC my c-section overhang will at least be a shelf rather than a chest of drawers.

MrsOmelette · 26/01/2021 17:24

Made a lovely crustless quiche earlier, was planning it being my lunches for next few days but it’s already been eaten by everyone lol. Always happy when they have extra veg.
B - stir fry L - pepper, mushroom & tomato quiche D - sardine & cauliflower fritters, green beans.
Tomorrow’s meals: B - green pepper omelette L - chilli D - mushrooms & Boursin

Hopeislost · 26/01/2021 17:30

@Bestbees Oh yes, I would definitely adapt to make it Bootcamp friendly. More veg instead of the lentils and would use BIWI's cheese sauce recipe because I love it!
