This is the full list of those who have signed up. Hopefully you're all on The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (unless you said you didn't want to be!

Remember, weighing in tomorrow is not part of this week, although if you want to, you can put your weight in the 'original start date/weight' columns

Thanks must go, as always, to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for setting up the spreadsheet. You'll see this time that we've amended it slightly so that you can record loss for this Bootcamp as well as since you started, for those of you who started earlier.

If your name isn't on the spreadsheet, don't panic! Just add it to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that later.

If you are on the spreadsheet, but don't want to be, send me or Athelstane a PM and we'll remove you.

Whatever you do, don't touch the blue cells!

If you're using a mobile to access the spreadsheet, you'll need to download the Google Sheets app.

I'm struggling a tad with my electrolytes, I'm having half a teaspoon of salt with water morning and afternoon but still feel dehydrated quite often.

Why not have a mug of bouillon/stock/bovril before or after your dinner as well?

ChristMyArse · 14/01/2021 11:12

@Ninkanink I'll give bovril a whirl - thank you. Can't say I'll look forward to it but shall try 😁

Laska2Meryls · 14/01/2021 11:17

Christmyarse

I used to find this a problem but I now have have water with salt and big squeeze squeeze of lime or lemon
Also a high strength magnesium citrate tablet every day .. Solgar brand (expensive but worth it .. )

Laska2Meryls · 14/01/2021 11:22

Just eating my usual eggs n cheese brunch. This evening I am going to try a this waitrose salmon recipe, (without the sugar and rice and using less carrot) but with courgetti and extra green veg , maybe fennel and pak choi if I can get any ..
Scales looked promising this morning !

1WayOrAnother2 · 14/01/2021 11:50

Water 1litre
Greek yogurt and cream with a few blueberries
black coffee

Water 1 litre
Cauliflower and halloumi curry whole-soup
Redbush/honey/fig tea bag in hot water

Water 1pint
Chicken legs/thighs with lemon and cabbage
mint tea

tanoshii · 14/01/2021 11:52

Hello fellow low carb bootcampers!
Long time lurker here, but decided to join you all as you seem like a very friendly bunch. I've added my name to "the list", and hopefully I've done it successfully.
I started low carb eating almost two years ago, and managed to loose 3 stone over a eight month period pretty easily and maintained at 10st6lbs (5ft5) reasonably well for a year. I had a blip at Christmas time though, and what with homeschooling hell, I am now back up to 11st3lbs. My jeans are feeling tight, and I'm hoping this bootcamp will help me reach my ultimate goal of being under 10st.
Re-discovered miso soup yesterday, and hoping it will help when I get the munchies in the afternoon.

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 14/01/2021 12:12

@BIWI that makes sense, thank you. I know what I really need to do is retrain - my tastebuds, brain, etc - to be satisfied by good, sufficient food, not to “need” excessive amounts of sweet stuff!

Withershins · 14/01/2021 12:28

Hi, hopefully I have correctly added myself to the list! It will be my birthday this weekend so will be starting after that. This will be my first attempt at low carb/hi fat so could anyone recommend a cook book which will have suitable recipes please? I am reasonably adventurous food and cooking wise, and not really too pushed for time. Thanks Smile

BIWI · 14/01/2021 12:34

Welcome @Withershins! The very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready is Mistress of the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, and I'm sure she will have added you.

Re recipes, if you go to the Low Carb Bootcamp topic, you'll find lots of recipes there, stickied at the top. They're grouped by type, so meat, vegetarian, chicken, etc.

OP posts:
BIWI · 14/01/2021 12:35

As an example, here is the thread with meat recipes

Ratherchillyinhere · 14/01/2021 12:36

Well, I over slept a bit this morning before lessons started so didnt have time for a proper breakfast.

B - cheese and marmite sandwiches this morning - slices of cheese spread with marmite in between. Coffee with cream.

L - chicken bone broth with cream soup.

D - bacon wrapped halloumi and fried egg 😋

I thought my confirmed carbivore children might object more to the meals (they always have done in the past) but they're satisfying their cravings with pasta and noodles at lunchtime - which I don't even feel like I need to resist!

I did a bit of a naughty weigh in this morning. 5lbs down since Sunday!

I know it's mostly water weight but I've also lost just over 1/2 inch from my waist. Didn't check the others- that was good enough!

I think I just ate so much crap over Christmas that my body is responding really well! 😆

Ratherchillyinhere · 14/01/2021 12:52

And I've taken advantage of the new year sales and bought 3 dresses in the size below. Because I know I'm going to get there!

Withershins · 14/01/2021 13:03

Thank you @BIWI, I will take a look.

Cactusowl · 14/01/2021 13:04

I made crustless quiche with tuna, olives and spinach. I made the mistake of using milk, will find a different recipe next time but it still makes a low carb lunch.

Pandoraslastchance · 14/01/2021 13:20

Oh dear me I was bad.

Yesterday
B-nothing as the kids drove me bonkers
L-grilled bacon, eggs and sausages(mushrooms went icky over night)
T- donner kebab with lots of lettuce, onions and mayo.

B-nothing as the kids were fighting again
L-2 boiled eggs and mayo, pepperami and fried (in butter) cabbage and chorizo.
T-homemade chicken curry with cauliflower.

I'm struggling to get fat into my diet. I'm cooking with butter.

I'm struggling to see how that was bad? The only possibility is that you had the pitta bread with the kebab or rice with your curry - but as you've said cauliflower, I'm assuming you had that instead? But apart from that - what's the issue?

Re the fat - stop grilling your bacon for a start! Adding butter to veg, as well as frying in it, is good. Try having a green salad with your meals as well, dressed with an oily dressing.

OP posts:
Pandoraslastchance · 14/01/2021 13:44

Nope no pitta bread. I gave it to the dog Grin I'm proud as I didn't even order chips!!! I know that a chicken kebab is better than the lamb doner so ill try that next time.

I had to sacrifice my last salad for the bloody guinea pig yesterday as she "wheeks" if she doesn't have salad. Fussy madam.

I've sent OH to sainsburys to get more spring greens and salads and eggs of course. I've got some lovely olive oil with chilli so I'll have that on salads.

Oneborneverydecade · 14/01/2021 13:48

It's really difficult to keep up but hello to everyone joining. It's really interesting to hear from people who have previously lost a lot and kept it off for a long time (even if 2020 has meant a small gain!). It gives me hope for the future

venusandmars · 14/01/2021 13:57

@Ratherchillyinhere Vegetables? I'm sure you just forgot to list them Wink

B - nothing, went for a long walk instead
L - broccoli and Stilton soup, chef's salad
D - teriyaki salmon with stir fry veg

Chef's salad has chopped chicken, mayonnaise and whatever else is available. Today it was grated cheese and chopped mushrooms.

For anyone looking at the recipe thread the IPD moussaka is amazing. Takes a bit of time and faff, but worth it.

52andblue · 14/01/2021 14:05

I still easing it and it is my Birthday today.
So:
B: coffee, scrambled eggs with buttered green veg
L: corned beef sandwich (no bread ;) and salad
D: steamed salmon, buttered green veg, hollandaise sauce
Birthday Cake (my dd, ASD, made it and there's no way I'm refusing :)

also, took my painkillers, vits, lots of water
keeping up with medical appoints for me not just the kids this year.

New Birthday Year Self Care Resolution :)

venusandmars · 14/01/2021 14:27

Also, for anyone worried about salt...

A few years ago I had catastrophically high blood pressure. As well as immediate medication there was a whole list of 'NOs'

No salt. Especially NO SALT
No fat
No caffeine
No alcohol
No dairy
Lean meat only
Eat plenty of wholegrains, pulses, oats (which I already did)

Fortunately I managed to loose some weight, and that combined with medication reduced my blood pressure to acceptable levels. But I wanted more, I wanted to reduce my medication as far as I could and to be as healthy as I could for the long term. I started researching low carb, and read that a hflc diet could also reduce bp.

Out went the miserable diet, and in came avocado, butter, coconut curry, confit duck legs, plus loads of wonderful veg. Plus salts - potassium, sodium, magnesium. And down went my blood pressure (and my weight). To the extent that 2 years ago I stopped taking any medication. Goodbye limp, steamed broccoli (with no seasoning) and Hello broccoli roasted in olive oil, salt, pepper, crushed fennel and carraway...

This way of eating is so far away from the ingrained diet 'advice' that it can be difficult to comprehend.

However... it's 100% NOT a mix and match.

I can eat pork belly with buttered veg, I can enjoy scrambled eggs made with cream, I can eat avocado and mozzarella with olive oil dressing. But add in apple sauce and roast potatoes to the pork, or a couple of slices of toast with the eggs, or the odd pudding, biscuit or cake as a 'treat', and my weight balloons and my blood pressure soars.

I know which way of living and eating I prefer. And bootcamp is a perfect way of being supported on that journey.

1WayOrAnother2 · 14/01/2021 15:14

Thank-you @venusandmars this is very helpful. It is hard to see 'official guidelines' that are so contrary to this and ignore them... and yet this way of eating works for weightloss and feels healthier.

BIWI · 14/01/2021 15:24

@Pandoraslastchance

But I still don't see why you think that was bad! What do you think you did that you shouldn't have done?

OP posts:
BIWI · 14/01/2021 15:24

That's a fantastic post @venusandmars

I've felt pretty good all week - stuck to the rules and upped my fat intake and green veg etc. I've been drinking 3-4 pints of water at least a day and have survived the fluey symptoms and an abscess.

I know I'd dropped weight/lowered fluid retention as when kneeling, it was lovely to not feel tight and uncomfortable in the legs. But today, that tight feeling is back again.

Would anyone know why?
