This is the full list of those who have signed up. Hopefully you're all on The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (unless you said you didn't want to be!

Remember, weighing in tomorrow is not part of this week, although if you want to, you can put your weight in the 'original start date/weight' columns

Thanks must go, as always, to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for setting up the spreadsheet. You'll see this time that we've amended it slightly so that you can record loss for this Bootcamp as well as since you started, for those of you who started earlier.

If your name isn't on the spreadsheet, don't panic! Just add it to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that later.

If you are on the spreadsheet, but don't want to be, send me or Athelstane a PM and we'll remove you.

Whatever you do, don't touch the blue cells!

If you're using a mobile to access the spreadsheet, you'll need to download the Google Sheets app.

Thanks both! I drink my tea and coffee black with no additives! I'll occasionally drink a fancy coffee in a shop.

However, I don't think I'll drink a BPC 🤢

I've had darjeeling tea with butter and black Pepper though :D

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 12/01/2021 15:11

Afternoon!

Great to read all the meal ideas in here: so helpful.

I'll pop onto the spreadsheet later for a proper nose-around. Impressive amount of work and detail has gone into this! Thanks for BIWI & Athelstane.

I'm a bit stuck for breakfast ideas for next week. I always have natural yog with fruit & nuts. Not a big fan of very savoury breakfasts. Any ideas anyone?

Today, B was the above, lunch was tuna melt salad with an apple, & dinner will be sticky chicken with butter-roasted sprouts.

ANewDawnANewDay · 12/01/2021 15:37

MilesJuppIsMyBitch - I will be stealing your dinner (idea)
Sticky chicken and butter roasted sprouts! thanks Smile

Question - are herbal teas good for drinking all day?
I like the Twinnings Ginger and lemon one - it says "Sugar free | All Natural Ingredients" -so I am assuming it's fine.

CeibaTree · 12/01/2021 15:50

Thanks so much BIWI and Athelstane for running this again :) I put on half a stone over christmas, mostly from chocolate and booze! So this bootcamp has come at the perfect time.

My menu today:

Breakfast - 1 M&S pre-cooked chicken thigh, cup of homemade bone broth
Mid morning: creamy (decaf) coffee
Lunch: 2 rashers of bacon and a fried egg with mayo
Snack: 2 brazil nuts (I know these will be out from next week!)
Dinner: Roast chicken, garlic spinach, and braised red cabbage

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 12/01/2021 16:39

@AthelstaneTheUnready

Oh, and a rough rule of thumb for everyone - It Is Not Possible To Overdo The Green Veg.

Seriously.

Pile it high.

Swim in it.

You cannot physically eat enough green veg in one day to mess up this diet. And yes, I double dare you to try. But you can't. Grin

Unless you totally overestimate the amount of brocolli when idly entering it onto the Fitbit carb counter thing and it tells you you’ve had 67g of carbs in one meal Grin
missboots · 12/01/2021 16:56

I've just added my starting weight to the sheet. I did my first weigh in on Monday 4th, and spent last week slowly cutting out sugary treats and carbs. This week I'm trying no sugar, and only carbs from berries/bananas/seeds. Oh, and dry January. Misery! 4lb down by Monday 11th though.

BIWI · 12/01/2021 17:13

@Ifeelmuchlessfat

I'd be ignoring that carb counter from now on. (Unless you've eaten a whole sack of broccoli of course?!)

OP posts:
BIWI · 12/01/2021 17:14

@missboots - get rid of the banana asap! That's one of (if not the) worst fruits you can be eating, from a carb point of view.

BIWI · 12/01/2021 17:16

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch

Re breakfast - a couple of things. First, why not just have the yoghurt on its own? Lots of us do! You can add double cream to it to make it even richer.

Also, one of the key things about Bootcamp is that we're trying to get rid of our sweet tooth (teeth?!) so an expectation that breakfast is about sweet things is something you should be looking to break.

It doesn't matter what you eat for breakfast. There's no need for special breakfast foods. We have Mr Kellogg to thank for that!

Now, yoghurt with cream is something I can get on board with!

I've always had a sweet tooth, but I noticed after eating this way for a while that natural yoghurt started to taste sweet to me.

Thanks for the suggestion Thanks

prettybird · 12/01/2021 17:51

I like Greek yoghurt with a pinch of cinnamon. Smile

I used to add blueberries, raspberries or strawberries as well once I was on to Boot Camp Lite - but stopped when I realised I didn't actually "need" them.

Pandoraslastchance · 12/01/2021 18:03

B-boiled egg as I was trying to educate the feral ones.
L- chicken breast with lettuce and ceasar dressing
T- chicken, bacon and cauliflower cheese(mascapone cheese, mustard powder, cheddar and a dash of double cream)

Bloody kids have now decided they like boiled eggs so they are stealing mine!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/01/2021 18:05

Ack. Not on full BC rules yet (stuff to use up) but close. And saw first result of that today, when finally got off last work call at 5.30, thinking "I feel a bit spaced out with this non-drinking thing".

To realise I hadn't actually eaten today. It's been a while since the whole day has whizzed past without hunger pangs.

Now topped up with emergency cheese and cold pork. Need to sort out some green veg when I've stopped burping as, I guess, pudding. Confused

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/01/2021 18:10

Today's food:

B: not hungry first thing, just had a creamy coffee. Got peckish around mid-morning so had a few olives and a bit of cheese.
L: egg Mayo salad
Snack: creamy coffee and a couple of squares of dark chocolate - I knoooooow, but as I never eat more than a couple of chunks at a time, I still have Christmas chocolate to eat.
D: cooking it right now. Courgettes and cauliflower roasted in garlic oil, buttery mashed celeriac, and a couple of sausages fried in butter.

2.4 litres of water down so far.

missboots · 12/01/2021 18:10

I think this is where is struggle with the low carb concept. I'm happy to drop berries for a couple of weeks in the hardcore bootcamp, but the idea of not "needing" berries doesn't quite sit right with me - surely they're full of nutrients that you might not get in all the green veg etc? Will definitely be adding cinnamon to my Greek yoghurt though!!
1WayOrAnother2 · 12/01/2021 18:12

Yes @Pondoraslastchance - one of the hazards of LCHF eating is low-carb-thievery.

Our food is all too delicious to be left out in the kitchen... and even hard to hide well enough in the fridge.

(No-one ever wanted my low-calorie substitute foods.)

BIWI · 12/01/2021 18:15

Then you need to do some serious reading about low carbing and what it's all about!

The reason we don't allow fruit (and then restrict to berries) is because the fruit contains sugar. And it's the sugar that we're trying to avoid.

What nutrients do you think you're getting from fruit that you can't get from vegetables?

OP posts:
BIWI · 12/01/2021 18:16

... oh, and don't tell me that it's because fruit is natural sugar. Sugar is sugar is sugar as far as the body is concerned!

OP posts:
ANewDawnANewDay · 12/01/2021 18:16

Antioxidants?

missboots · 12/01/2021 18:22

Was also going to say antioxidants. I know it's sugar, and I will definitely do the 2 week boot camp without, but not sure I would ever get to the point where I would feel that I don't want to eat berries longer term!

prettybird · 12/01/2021 18:37

If you've re-educated your taste buds, you don't "need" the sweetness sugar of the berries for breakfast.

I'll still have them on occasion as a treat as dessert - but not as an everyday thing (which is what I was doing when I had them for breakfast).

I tend do 16:8 now and don't eat breakfast anyway Wink

Because I'm having a FLGV with my other meals ( and trying to "eat a rainbow" ), I'm comfortably eating more than my "five a day" Grin

Yesterday I had a good portion of left over celeriac dauphinoise for lunch and then for supper had a shepherds pie with carrots, leeks, shallots and tomatoes in the lamb mince base, topped with a cauliflower and celeriac mash and served with shoogled (microwaved one butter) sprouts.

Today I had left over shepherds pie for lunch, left over sprouts as a snack and tonight we'll be having "spaghetti" bolognaise: the shepherd pie mince base with all its hidden veg and the "pasta" being a whole thinly sliced courgette fried in butter (dh will have standard spaghetti Wink).

StuntNun · 12/01/2021 18:37

Missboots there aren't a lot of nutrients in berries, or any fruit for that matter. That's a lie conjured up by the five-a-day marketing slogan. Vitamin C would be the main one. If you want nutrients then go for vegetables. Strawberries contain vitamin C and a tiny bit of calcium, iron and magnesium along with a fair amount of sugar. A single cup of kale contains loads of vitamins A, K, C, a good amount of manganese, and small quantities of vitamin B6, calcium, copper, potassium, magnesium, and a tiny amount of vitamins B1, B2, B3 plus iron and phosphorus, also protein and is only 33 calories.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/01/2021 18:48

When I was taking a packed lunch into drama school last year, I had Greek yoghurt with a few raspberries in it most days, didn't seem to hurt my weight management. But it was like 6 raspberries, and I'd been low-carbing for a while by then as well.

BIWI · 12/01/2021 19:09

... and you can go back to eating any fruit you like after Bootcamp @missboots. But you need to be aware that it comes with a big cost to you, as well as any benefit!

OP posts:
Lyrata · 12/01/2021 19:18

Totally agree - how convenient it is that the sugary sweet fruit that can be packaged up and sold as smoothies and juices and fruit ‘roll-ups’ and yogurts are talked about as the onnnllyyyy source of vitamin C.

I was so shocked when I learned there’s just as much in vegetables like broccoli. Still if I feel a bit under the weather it feels intuitive to have some orange juice (I don’t even like orange juice). Crazy how marketing embeds itself into your instincts.

Breakfast - a coffee with double cream
Lunch - bacon, chicken, mushroom and cauliflower soup
Dinner - chicken thigh with feta, yellow pepper, tomatoes, aubergine, courgette and onion.
