Morning all.

We've completed our ten weeks - and I can see from the Spreadsheet just how well it's gone!

But just because the ten weeks are up, doesn't mean we have to stop. So here's a bright, shiny new chat thread for us to keep chatting and supporting each other.

Plus water water water

StuntNun · 01/01/2021 11:56

Take care of yourself Nigella sometimes you can only fight one battle at a time. Things will get easier and then you can refocus on your weight loss.

Lyrata · 01/01/2021 12:45

I have just finished a batch of spinach soup I made earlier in the week. I adapted the recipe from here: www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/creamy-spinach-soup

(No lemon, cream instead of milk, no potato).

Including the recipe despite the aggressive adaptations because it has the cool method of wilting half the spinach (though the suggested 15 minutes is too long imo) and then blending in the other half raw. It makes the whole thing so fresh and vibrant.

That being said it’s nowhere near as filling as the cauliflower soup. I think I will switch back to that for the soup du jour next week.

Other than that I have just thrown away half a packet of mint imperials I was mindlessly snacking on while telling myself they didn’t really count, and am now in a carb free house again.

I’m going to weigh on Monday. (I am quite apprehensive).

Hi all,

I am considering low carb but will it be possible as a vegetarian?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Thanks!

BIWI · 01/01/2021 13:58

@purplegirl13 yes it's definitely possible! A vegetarian diet inevitably contains more carbs, but in the great scheme of things will still be lower carb than a 'normal' diet. There are specific Bootcamp rules for vegetarians too - i.e. you don't have to exclude nuts/seeds in the first couple of weeks.

Check out the vegetarian recipe thread stickied at the top of the Bootcamp thread - some lovely ideas there.

And also, Rose Elliott has written a specific vegetarian low carb book and recipe book which is worth checking out too.

Thanks @BIWI

I have looked at the veggie recipes and will add to my meal plan.

I'll also take a look at the rules.

I should've mentioned this in my post but I suffer from Ulcerative Colitis so when flaring my go-to's are mashed potato, rice and white bread. Not an issue right now.

Currently I'm well, but limit my intake of 'nuts', raw veg/salad and my tummy doesn't like seeds.

It's just me so I'm cooking for one, have a batch of soups in the freezers for lunches, and will look at lc dinners. Can only do salad a couple of times a week before my tummy kicks up a fuss.

In terms of moving forward, Can I join the chat but not the bootcamp? Is that an option? Just whilst I find my feet and adjust to lc.

Batshittery · 01/01/2021 15:01

Hello everyone. Mind if I join you?
I was a long term low carber and have done many bootcamps, but fell off a couple of years ago.
I'm going to be jumping back in on Monday (I have seen the soft option BIWI but I need to get a start sooner rather than later)
I don't intend going on the spreadsheet but will join the chat if that's ok?
Best of luck to all Smile

Takingontheflab · 01/01/2021 15:17

Thinking of you Nigella. We'll all be here when you're ready. For now take really good care of yourself Flowers

You're very welcome - but please just be mindful what you post, if you're posting about non-Bootcamp foods!

Good to read everyone here today. Wishing everyone a lovely New Year. A warm welcome to all new people joining for the next bootcamp.

Special warmth to you NigellaAwesome . I hope you and your daughter have a much better year in 2021.

BrassicaBabe · 01/01/2021 19:46

Happy New Year BCers!

I'm back in. Didn't join your last BC. But I'm a long term LCer. I've face planted into everything carb related since Christmas Eve so I've been rewarded with 9lb on. I'm hopeful that about half will shift pretty quickly but experience tells me my body will cling on to about 4lb of that for grim death.

So I'm back on plan as of today. And doing dry January for an extra push.

We do have enticing food still in the house, but I've always scoffed the stuff that I really can't resist. So at least I stand half a chance.

devoncreamtea · 01/01/2021 22:29

FlowersNigella so sorry to hear what an awful time you’ve been having. Hope this year brings better things for you and your family. 🙂

Laska2Meryls · 02/01/2021 09:08

Takingontheflab
I have been thinking about doing your cauliflower tandoori wedges .. Do you use a dry spice mix to coat or tandoori paste?

Takingontheflab · 02/01/2021 09:11

Hi Laska!i use pataks tikka paste which is 7g for 100g, i usually use between 25-45g but for me it feels worth it. I add some extra oil to ensure it goes crispy! So yum.

I'm down 4lbs from my Christmas gain! Wahey! 3lbs more to go until I'm back to pre-Christmas.

ChristMyArse · 02/01/2021 09:21

Please could someone let me know if I've done day 1 reasonably correctly? I drank 4.5lt in water (correct for my weight according to the water chart) I didn't have breakfast due to a late wake up after NYE...
L gammon omelette cooked in butter
D torn gammon with courgettes and sprouts fried in butter.
1 cup of tea with a dash of milk..

I've put 1lb on which is why I'm asking 😳

Sorry if I'm derailing.. I just want to check that I've started off ok! Thank you!

Totalshambles · 02/01/2021 09:35

christmyarse I think maybe you need more veg as only courgette all day but wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along. Also I wouldn’t pay any attention to weight gain after just one day as it’s not long enough and could be due to lots of other things.

Starting today on bc proper. Roped the husband in as well as his belly has ballooned and it doesn’t look healthy - he says he feels rubbish and is fed up of it. However he can’t cook (won’t cook) so this means I am managing both our meals. I guess I just make more of what I am having and perhaps it will be easier as I was otherwise making adapted meals for myself v him and the kids (although will still have to be doing that for the kids). Means we will get through a mountain of broccoli, courgettes, avocado and cauliflower we get through each week!!

Good luck everyone who is back on the wagon x

BurningGubbins · 02/01/2021 10:57

Happy New Year one and all!

I’ve avoided the chat so I could eat all the carbs and sugar without guilt. Did that, felt shit, kept going, still felt shit, but now ready to get back on it. I did have a couple of bootcamp friendly meal between Christmas and New Year to try to pretend to myself I was behaving, but following them with a Lindt reindeer doesn’t work apparently...

Thinking of you NigellaAwesome.

Laska2Meryls · 02/01/2021 11:16

Thanks Taking they sound really good ... I am starting back proper BC this week ... Would like to have already lost my Christmas tum for the start of the official one !

Takingontheflab · 02/01/2021 11:37

@ChristMyArse. More veg love. Way more veg!

And stay off the scales! Oily salad on side of omlette and more greens with your sprouts.

BIWI · 02/01/2021 11:46

@ChristMyArse are you just trying to low carb generally, or are you following Bootcamp?

If the latter, a few things to note:

  • remember that the beginning of Bootcamp you should be having three meals a day, so you really should have tried to have some breakfast!!
  • not really enough veg, especially if you're only eating two meals; please remember this is not a zero carb WOE (way of eating), it's a low carb WOE, and your carbs should be coming mainly from vegetables and salad. Your day today has become more a high protein day, which isn't what we're trying to achieve
  • if you're going to fret about weight gain if you're weighing daily, you need to step back from the scales. It's quite normal for your body weight to fluctuate day-by-day - and you've only done one day so far!

Make sure - if you are doing Bootcamp - that you have a really good read of the rules.

And you're not derailing at all - that's exactly what these threads are for! Post as many questions as you like

But above all, really well done you for starting! Flowers

@BIWI thank you very much.

I'm following bootcamp, so will up the veg and salad and ensure I have 3 meals a day.

I think I'm just a bit unsettled with it, as it's totally different to what I'm used to. I'm excited for the upcoming bootcamp though and am throwing myself in to it 100%

Thank you for your help 💐

BIWI · 02/01/2021 13:56

My pleasure!

It is a bit unsettling, I know. It goes so much against what we've been taught over the last 30-40 years or so. But it works - trust me! Grin
