Morning all.

We've completed our ten weeks - and I can see from the Spreadsheet just how well it's gone!

But just because the ten weeks are up, doesn't mean we have to stop. So here's a bright, shiny new chat thread for us to keep chatting and supporting each other.

What a lovely dog lyrata

I had brunch today - creamy coffee, lots of mushrooms, scrambled egg, sausage, and a little piece of back pudding. Kept me going for an 8 mile walk.

dinner is a sort of kedgeree made with cauliflower and cabbage 'rice'

Oneborneverydecade · 10/01/2021 17:51

That's really interesting @StuntNun thank you. I can't deny I was a bit worried to read that his future may already be written. Trouble is he's a carb addict, but we can make small changes

@BuffyTheBuffetSlayer @ZiggZagg that's reassuring thank you, I am hoping that DD won't struggle with her weight. I'm hoping that the changes I've made to my diet will set a better example

Laska2Meryls · 10/01/2021 17:58

chicken dinner tonight - roast chicken and ill have it with creamed leeks and cauli .. I may have a v small spoonful of carrots and peas ( even though I know I really shouldn't , but Ive had a FK-it G&T this evening .. 6 days of heavy hedge and tree pruning/ garden work and I really ache and feel that I've earned it ..

In lots of ways ill be sad to go back to the official BC starting tomorrow - not because I dont want to , but because the 'In-between' threads when there is just a few of us posting are those I enjoy most !.. ok I know that's v bad form and more than a tad selfish

StuntNun · 10/01/2021 18:23

It isn't already written Oneborn it's just that he could be more susceptible to weight gain. We all know people who seem to eat what they like and stay slim. They've lucked out on the epigenetic lottery, that's all. If your son eats a healthy diet then he won't end up overweight. My kids eat carbs and sugar and I tell them they won't be able to keep doing that forever. However if they eat well as adults they can prevent weight gain and retain their metabolical flexibility so that they will be able to indulge in, e.g. pizza every so often, without any issues.

@Oneborneverydecade

I've just spotted that Daisy May Cooper is losing weight with lchf. If you're here Daisy hello! and you were robbed on Taskmaster Grin Oh and ignore the naysayers on Instagram saying its calories in vs calories out!
I commented on her post then saw several people saying everyone was missing the joke so panicked and deleted my comment but i reread her caption several times and still read it as legit.

Fecking love taskmaster. "I LOVE THIS" 🤣

I've managed today on track you guys. Tikka cauli with lime/cucumber yog and then this for dinner:

Praise be. I feel highly irritated and almost exploded when i found MIL had hidden a box of celebrations in the bread bin she gave us today. I made DH take them straight out to the van. I was almost in tears worrying I couldn't trust myself! I absolutely hate this. I miss when nothing tempted or phased me. Will i get back to that!? These sweet cravings are so demoralising.

Sausages are 1.5g carbs per 2. Tesco finest pork sausages.

Happy Christmas Bootcampers!
Oneborneverydecade · 10/01/2021 18:57

@Takingontheflab I think it's legit too. She literally looks slimmer and it's natural that might want to try and lose a little weight after having a baby

The scene with Richard feeding her watermelon is my highlight of 2020 Grin

Well done on a good day and feel the same about the sweet cravings - I wish they'd sod off

@Laska2Meryls I agree, I think the new threads may feel a bit manic for a while

Thank you @StuntNun

BrassicaBabe · 10/01/2021 21:03

Crashed and burned today. Couldn't mentally manage BC AND Dry January Sad Have managed 10 days alcohol free though

BIWI · 11/01/2021 10:41

10 days alcohol-free is a great achievement though @BrassicaBabe.

Don't beat yourself up. I remember from other Bootcamp threads that you have a tendency to be very hard on yourself!

Arghhjj I've accidentally picked up extra thick double cream. Is my cheeseburger pie doomed? I've been excited all day about it!

BIWI · 13/01/2021 13:23

That's not a problem at all - it's exactly the same carb count anyway. Just use it as you would use double cream.

OP posts:
Takingontheflab · 13/01/2021 14:48

Will it loosen up if i heat it do you think? Imagining it'll be hard to pour over the mince otherwise?

BIWI · 13/01/2021 15:06

Don't you have to mix it up with eggs and cheese and mayo anyway? It will be fine! And totally yummy

OP posts:
prettybird · 13/01/2021 17:17

"Extra thick" double cream loosens up if you stir it so you'll be fine.

BIWI · 13/01/2021 17:53

I wish I was having cheeseburger pie now!

OP posts:
Takingontheflab · 13/01/2021 18:16

I stirred and it was the best damn pie I've ever made.

V much struggling not to eat the 2nd half 😳

Takingontheflab · 14/01/2021 17:49

Sorry to come back to this thread but didn't wanna stress the newbies.

I bumped into a friend earlier who asked how diet was going & i said I hadn't lost anything for some months now. Very much seem to have hit good maintenance 2 stone too early! Anyways she said keto commonly stops working after 6 months, suggesting this is my issue. Apparently her online research leads her to believe you have to "change it up again" around the 6mo mark.

I know stuntnun mention about plateaus before.

Is there some truth in this? Thing is i love low carb and how it makes me feel, I really enjoy it and find it maintainable... but I really need to get back on a regular pattern of losing and it isn't happening. (I mean obviously I've had blibs but I've lost roughly 4lbs since September, after initials losing 3 st in 4 months... is it possible I've used up my quota of low carb results briefly? Sounds mental but 🤷‍♀️ grasping at straws now really.

StuntNun · 14/01/2021 19:10

I wish people wouldn't share stupid facts like that: keto doesn't work after six months; only men can lose weight on low carb; it's only water weight etc.

The truth is that on any weight loss plan weight loss often plateaus at around six months. Here's a paper on the subject. It's just the way our bodies work. We evolved to maintain a consistent healthy weight eating a species appropriate diet. We screwed up our diet causing weight gain. But we haven't evolved to lose weight. Weight loss is a "bad thing" because it goes against homeostasis. That's why (a) weight loss is really hard work; (b) it's easy and quick to regain lost weight; (c) weight loss involves plateaus all the time.

Here are your options Taking ...

  1. KOKO. If you're eating well and following the rules then you will start losing weight again.
  2. Log your food for three days in My Fitness Pal and see where your calories and macros are. Note that this isn't counting calories to restrict food rather it's recording what you would eat anyway. I've had success in the past with breaking a stall by simply getting the person to add a tablespoon of olive oil extra to their food each day. Logging your food will also identify other issues such as overeating, undereating, carb creep, or protein intake being too low.
  3. Change things up with intermittent fasting. Try 16:8. If you're already doing 16:8 try 20:4. Or alternate day fasting. Or 5:2. Or an extended fast.

What to you think might work for you?

Takingontheflab · 14/01/2021 20:40

Thanks stunt nun. I do 16.8 daily, often going to 20 hours once or twice a week by accident. I've actually tried not to fast at all this past week just to see if my body wanted a change. No dice yet.

I think I'll have to use mfp for a few days to see if I'm definitely on the right track as you suggest. I'd hoped to be at target by now, now I'm hoping April but with january almost over I can see it rolling around before I know it if something doesn't kick-start me soon

BIWI · 14/01/2021 20:58

One other thing - just to check ...

Are you taking any medication? Do you regularly take ibuprofen?

OP posts:
Takingontheflab · 14/01/2021 21:48

No meds, am prone to headaches which I can't take paracetamol for as it doesn't touch, they are worsening (i think linked to neck tension and eye issues) but I guess how often would be considered often?

I have periods of time where I don't get headaches at all.- weeks, maybe even months..

StuntNun · 15/01/2021 07:01

If you're up for it Taking then try the MFP for three days and if you PM me with your calories for each day, macros and current height and weight then I'll run the numbers for you.

Takingontheflab · 15/01/2021 14:33

Thanks StuntNun, i will do xx

Takingontheflab · 16/01/2021 07:09

Sorry guys, me again.

I've woken with what I think is thrush, again.

I'd never had it all before, and now twice in 6mo. Anyone got any thoughts on whats triggering it? Its absolutely hellish.

Previous i was on slimming world which heavily limited my dairy, is it possible I've upset my balance?

StuntNun · 16/01/2021 08:51

Taking it's really easy to get. A common cause is highly scented products like Lush bath bombs but a lot of women get thrush every so often. I suggest Canesten Duo which is one tablet and a cream. Here's some more information..*

Takingontheflab · 16/01/2021 10:52

Thanks love, I'll nip out for more canneston. I don't use anything i think could be setting it off, but i do like a bath. Usually it's just water or v occasionally a squirt of shower gel for some bubbles 🤔
