Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6 already!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for its weekly outing.

Don't forget to check out all the different resources on the spreadsheet - it's a huge mine of information.

We are now past the half way point - so only 5 more weeks to go until we get to Christmas! Shock

But that means there's still time to lose a good chunk of weight, if we all knuckle down and get on with it.

Flowers to us all!

Mine also went mouldy well before I could eat them even stored in the fridge. It’s a good idea and the bread is better than others I have tried but too expensive esp if it doesn’t even last. I prefer to make something up using ground almonds a bit of chia, flax, eggs etc if I really need bready type stuff but actually I am finding I am not really missing it (surprisingly as I usually love a piece of buttered toast!)

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 18/11/2020 19:27

This is my 3rd order, I've never had any issues before. I wonder if it wasnt stored correctly while in transit.

Am I meant to keep the bread in the fridge?

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 18/11/2020 19:29

I had fried egg on toast this morning, I'm now wondering if it was mouldy toast I ate. My DC were harassing me, pulling on my clothes and trying to climb up my leg while I made it so didnt notice anything Blush

AWryGiraffe · 18/11/2020 20:13

Oh god I'm also now paranoid I'm eating mouldy bread. Must check tomorrow. Definitely complain - it's surely not ok to go off that quick. It does stay store in the fridge though

Oneborneverydecade · 18/11/2020 20:53

@solongsugar I'm 5ft 10 and I'd like to know too. It's reassuring that you're a 14 at 12st, I think I'm creeping into a 14 but not there yet. I think I'll probably need to be nearer 11st to be a 12?

Midlifemission · 18/11/2020 21:03

Hi everyone life outside bootcamp has been hectic and a bit stressful ( trying to sort out a house move for PIL in their 80senough said ) anyway I just wanted to say I was another one disappointed by mouldy low carb bread - it was really off putting and I threw half my order away !

I have enjoyed reading all the weight and size debate too - I can’t scroll on my phone to find all your names but I am also 5 feet 6 and looking forward to a weight that starts with an 11 now despite for years being closer to 10 . I found that the extra weight I put on over the last couple of years meant I was no longer pear shaped which I always
Knew how to dress for even if not slim. I got to a point where nothing felt good on me at all. I am still a long way from getting back to the ‘old me’ but knowing there are others in the same boat Is so helpful .

sheepysheep · 18/11/2020 21:26

Another one for the 5 6 club! Mousey hair too, I couldn’t be more average haha. Certainly no Jessica rabbit though - more like tweedledum type apple. No arse, no boobs, big belly. My trousers are always falling down as belts don’t tend to work when your waist is bigger than your hips. DH keeps threatening to put me in braces but I just know I’d end up wetting myself as I wouldn’t be able to escape quick enough (thanks kids for destroying my body!) 🤣

prettybird · 18/11/2020 21:36

I've made a second loaf of my low carb sourdough bread. It's nowhere near as light as the pictures of the Seriously Low Carb bread, but it is still nice. I upped the egg this time (not sure I need to - will maybe just replace the 3rd egg with water), put in extra mixed seeds and added some fine ground almond flour.

If anyone remembers Vogel bread, it's a bit like that. It's lovely warm with a generous slather of butter and then it's great toasted. Smile

I think it works out at about 2g carbs per slice.

MsAwesomeDragon · 18/11/2020 21:50

prettybird where did you get the recipe for the low carb sourdough? And does it freeze? I think if I'm making something myself I want to be able to batch cook it and freeze in portions, as it'll only be me eating it (the rest of the family can have cheap and nasty bread!)

MrsKoala · 18/11/2020 21:54

My seriously low carb bread arrived yesterday and I put it straight in the freezer for the weekend. I really hope it’s not mouldy. I’d definitely complain if it were, especially at that price!

prettybird · 18/11/2020 21:55

I made up the recipe after looking at the list of ingredients for the Seriously Low Carb bread. Key ingredient is Vital Wheat Gluten - but only 150g. I'm sure it will freeze - the last loaf lasted ok out of the fridge but this loaf (which is bigger) I've put in the fridge.

I'll post up the recipe when I've calculated the carbs.

It does say on the pack to store in the fridge.

@BuffyTheBuffetSlayer and @ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh did you buy the bread direct from the Seriously Low Carb website or through Amazon?

I bought mine direct from the Serously low carb bread website.

BIWI · 18/11/2020 23:10

That's interesting. I was wondering if it was a problem if you ordered through a third party. You should definitely complain. It's too expensive to let them get a!way with it

OP posts:
ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh · 18/11/2020 23:16

Yes I bought mine directly too, I will send an email tomorrow and see what happens!

Jdhshekr · 19/11/2020 03:27

I made this the other day. I used a bit less water than it states and it was lovely. It takes about an hour to bake but you throw it together in less than 5 minutes so it’s nice and easy: www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/the-keto-bread

Oneborneverydecade · 19/11/2020 07:19

Where did you buy your psyllium husk @jdhshekr?

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 19/11/2020 07:41

I received a generic email back last night saying that you for contacting them, they are busy dealing with urgent emails about orders and replying to customer reviews so wont be able to look at my email until monday Hmm

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 19/11/2020 07:42

Maybe I should leave a review!

Mimosa1 · 19/11/2020 08:06

I think it may be better to order directly. I bought some off Amazon below and they haven't arrived yet and looks like they will have spent 5-7 days in transitConfused

Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6 already!
Lyrata · 19/11/2020 10:02

I’m very intrigued by this low-carb bread but I don’t miss bread all that much so I should probably avoid just buying it for the novelty!

I’m feeling weird about my current attitude towards food. I’m often really obsessive about food - I talked about this before - even when I was a child, I would obsess about X or Y food. When I’m not dieting I often have a ‘favourite food’ (often some sort of chocolate bar) that I want to eat every day and when I do diet, I normally feel very attuned to food and often over-eat the tastiest element of my food (this is worse with low calorie diets where I will be very excited about popcorn or diet snack bars but then find it hard to stop at one - but even with low carb I have previously found I would fantasise about pork scratchings or those meat and cheese roll-ups and struggle not to buy and snack on them daily. At my old workplace they had snack dispensers - including roasted almonds - and sometimes I would count out a portion in the morning and have them on my desk - all but vibrating with a desperate desire to eat them).

It’s not happening this time. I don’t know why. I feel really mellow about food, and I don’t feel the need to snack. I’ve even broken the diet multiple times and eaten dessert at dinner parties when it’s felt rude to refuse but felt fine about it and switched back to this WOE the next day with no real issues. (Breaking like this is normally the beginning of the end for me).

It’s obviously really nice - I swear this isn’t a humble brag - but also a bit scary. It feels a bit like uncharted territory, I suppose. Normally, I suppose I know my “triggers” and what not to do, but at the moment I’m not sure what sort of spell I’m under - and whether it will end! It’s almost too easy and I feel scared that it will suddenly get hard. I don’t know what the new rules are or why low carb is working so much better this time around.

Sorry for the mega post! I just wanted to write this down somewhere.

BIWI · 19/11/2020 10:20

That's very interesting @Lyrata, but also bodes very well for you for being able to maintain this WOE!

@BuffyTheBuffetSlayer I would try and call them if you can (assuming there's a telephone number). It's a fairly small and, I think, fairly recent business so they won't be very happy to know that this is happening with their product. If you can't, and/or they don't deal with your email as promised, then I'd definitely leave a review.

It's such a shame as it's a really good product. I have some rolls apparently arriving next week, so very hopeful that I won't have the same issue! (It will be my third order - safe to say I haven't had problems so far, but don't want to jinx that)
