Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

 • you don't have to have three meals a day
 • you can have some fruit (berries)
 • you can have some nuts/seeds
 • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

@BIWI That looks rather good, and thanks for your testing work. Sadly it's something I can't have because I am coeliac (although generally low carb is a really easy thing for me to manage). I will have a look at the ingredients and see if I can concoct a gluten free equivalent at some point, or maybe some crackers based on almond flour. I now have a week's worth of suggestions in my back pocket, so that's great.

ponygirlcurtis · 26/10/2020 19:00

ShagMagicRiggins I am sloshing! Definitely hitting 3l a day, over the weekend was more like 4l. Although it took a few days to work up to hitting the 3l mark, maybe that had an impact. I know, 3lbs is fine really, especially when I have been eating low-carb for years already. Hopefully things will continue down, that's all that matters. Wink

Well done to everyone who lost and massive sympathy to everyone who didn’t.

I’m having my first proper sugar cravings today after a hideous day at work. I’m craving one of those horrid little packet hot chocolates (which I don’t even enjoy).

I just had an amazing dinner of steak with onions and gravy on top of crispy kale.

(Still want the horrid hot chocolate)

RitaEllen · 26/10/2020 19:22

I lost 3lb, I’ve now lost 7lb altogether. I was very pleased with myself this weekend as I managed to resist temptation. My son offered me some sweets as he knows they are my favourite, I politely declined and explained I was eating healthier and wanting to lose weight. He then left a little pile next to me incase I wanted to change my mind! 😂 I didn’t!

Solongsugar · 26/10/2020 19:26

@ShagMeRiggins I'm 12.7 stones. I make that 175lbs but I did get an E in g.c.s.e maths Blush. Your weight loss was fab this week b.t.w !

BIWI · 26/10/2020 19:43

Ah I'm sorry @CrepuscularCritter I hadn't realised/didn't know you were coeliac. Sad

... but you could always try Lo dough

You could use this as a wrap, or as a pizza base.

Ok so I’m soooooo close to being in the 100-club or whatever it was called, AND I’m now... overweight!!!!! I haven’t been overweight for years, BMI Is now 29.7 so out of the obese range! Grin

However, I think I’m there partly because I ate very little most days last week. Had a large cheese, leek and broccoli omelette around 2.00pm most days, and that, with a couple of creamy coffees were enough for me. This week I’m hungrier, and it’s half term so having a few days in a hotel and there will be wine ...

Whatever happens this week though I will continue to IF as I feel better without breakfast, I will drink water, and I will eat (mainly) low carb. I reckon it will be a good 2 weeks or so before I lose anything else, so it’s damage limitation really.

BIWI · 26/10/2020 19:56
@BIWI sorry they're upside down.
Oh and it's not tomorrow it's now Friday. They're shut tomorrow!!!
There's actually quite a lot there that I think you can eat, but it seems mainly to be in the starters. It's always difficult with the dishes (especially the main courses) to know just how it's cooked (i.e. is it battered?) and what kind of sauce it's in.

I'd go for a selection of starters - first choice would be crispy lamb or the chicken lettuce roll. The shredded duck with spring onion looks good (I'm assuming that doesn't come with pancakes?)

The prawns in creamy sauce sounds interesting, but could possibly be in a sauce that uses flour. The smoked shredded chicken with garlic flakes sounds good too!

Hi just placemarking Grin

Got my first "Have you lost weight?" today from a client in work Grin

I had Cauliflower Curry Soup for lunch.
Just had lots of Peri Peri Chicken Wings and salad. With some full fat natural yoghurt for pud.

CrepuscularCritter · 26/10/2020 20:03

That's a great alternative BIWI. I will need to ask about the wheat - even though it's gluten free - but I hadn't realised it might be an option. Excited to check it out now!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 26/10/2020 20:18

Finished eating for the day. B - celery and almond butter (only 2 tablespoons which is 200 cals, so not tons of the stuff). Bern fancying it for 2 weeks!
Lunch was 2 slices of smoked cheese with a square of 85% lindt dark choc. Not great but dinner was better - beef casserole (with veg) and roasted radishes.
Still got more water to consume though.

Pleaseandthankyou · 26/10/2020 20:25

@ShagMeRiggins
Could you pls add my 174 to the spreadsheet for me. I thought I had updated earlier but it hasn’t saved. That’s 4lb off
Thank you!

poorbuthappy · 26/10/2020 20:29

@BIWI tremendous thank you!!!!

Redsparklybucket · 26/10/2020 20:33

@ShagMeRiggins could you please add me to the spreadsheet down 5lbs to 301!

NorthOfAmazing · 26/10/2020 20:39

Well done everyone on your loses , and some good looking pictures too ! It’s so satisfying to get old favourites back on isn’t it ? I’ve got a pair of black skinnies I’d love to fit back into, albeit they’re a couple of sizes too small now and don’t go over my hips. There’s still time !! And like a pp , I’d love to be ‘just’ overweight again , no matter how long it takes.

Food today
B - creamy coffee
L - busy day so hardly any time , more creamy coffee and a leftover cooked sausage cold from the fridge ( surprisingly nice)
D- homemade jalfrezi-type chicken curry with cauliflower rice - I love curries and used to eat them a lot , this took some working out as both tomatoes and peppers on the high side, not to mention the onions! One chicken breast , one tin of tomatoes , half an onion and one yellow pepper made two ( small ) portions so I think it’ll be ok.

2l of water too. Work tomorrow and lots of bad bad choices in the staff canteen , must stay focused !

NorthOfAmazing · 26/10/2020 20:41

Meant to add commiserations to everyone who is stalling too , I’m trying hard to stay positive too so I know how disheartening it is Flowers like the brilliant ShagMagic says , weight loss is not linear .. and one bad week does not make an impossible task Flowers

Don’t be sorry!!!

VeryLittleHowl · 26/10/2020 21:02

Lunch was veggies, scrambled eggs and quarter of a Boursin. Supper was mashed sprouts and chilli.

Second NSV of the day - I find it almost impossible not to finish DH's leftovers (hangover from going to a boarding school where you were made to sit in front of your plate at lunch and supper until it was empty, even if that meant you missed lessons). Tonight I took one bite of his leftover chilli and went, 'No, I'm not hungry, I don't need to eat this,' and threw it in the bin. I can count the number of times I've done that in the past 27 years since I left school on one hand.

Tiny username change for Halloween Grin

Why are you counting the calories? We don't do that on Bootcamp!

@NorthOfAmazing

If you substitute shallots for the onion you will halve the amount of carbs. Buy the echalion (sometimes called banana) shallots as they're much easier to peel than the small, round ones

Biwi I was looking to see how much I could I eat without going overboard, since nuts are very easy to over eat.

Kleptronic · 26/10/2020 21:32

Sheepysheep my pound on was definitely the 2x5k, the 2 HIIT classes and the pilates making my muscles retain water - it absolutely had nothing to do with any wine, oh no, not at all 😬

Pleaseandthankyou · 26/10/2020 21:43

I bought a pair of very expensive jeans in a sale online. I can zip them up but definitely couldn’t leave the house in them. They might explode. I am not going to return them. I am going to fit into them. Hopefully before they go out of fashion :)

ponygirlcurtis · 26/10/2020 22:11

(Is your name a Ron Swanson ref? He would approve of this way of eating, apart from the FLGV anyway!)
