Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

BIWI · 26/10/2020 08:57

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

  • you don't have to have three meals a day
  • you can have some fruit (berries)
  • you can have some nuts/seeds
  • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

I had a lovely creamy chicken tonight but I didn't enjoy the flaccid green beans I'd made so I've decided to try this bbc GF recipe tomorrow with my dinner; probably chicken breast wrapped in Parma ham and cream cheese.

Put olive oil, shallots, garlic cloves and some salt in a frying pan, then cook gently for about 8 mins until soft but not brown. Tip in the beans and a grind of pepper, toss well, then warm through.

Takingontheundead · 26/10/2020 22:38

Thought I'd killed the thread with the picture of my lunch then realised its Monday!

Linnet · 26/10/2020 23:44

I have stayed the same, that’s ok at least I haven’t gained, but I will try harder this week coming. Off to update the spreadsheet. Well done to everyone else 😁

Summery1 · 27/10/2020 00:18

Just checking in again to record my food.
B: Baked egg(X3) with sausage, creamy coffeeX2
L:Leftover home made meatballs with home made tomato sauce.
D: One chicken satay skewer, green veg, Half a spare rib with sweet sauce scraped off. Greek yogurt with spoon of peanut butter (2.5g carb).
S: Herb tea with 85% chocolate (4.6g carb)

@prettybird it took a while to get the DVD to work but I did my first Shred in years and enjoyed it.
I'm working tomorrow so wont have energy for a workout but I plan to get in a walk somewhere - if it ends up too dark I could do the treadmill but I really love a bit of fresh air

Water, water, water drank!

2lb for me this week (3lb in total), im weighing on a Tues as I messed up on Monday 12, so started on Tuesday 13.

Im happy with slow and steady, I dont feel deprived and need to have a sustainable way of 'dieting' without getting to the weekend and troughing family bags of crisps/takeaways/wine etc.

The weight didnt come on over a weekend and it's not going to be quick to get off. Well done to everyone this week!

Rshard · 27/10/2020 06:36

Your cauliflower curry soup sounded nice ziggazagaarrgghh, recipe? Not sure if I got your name right?

VeryLittleHowl · 27/10/2020 06:49

Hooray, old scales and new scales weighed me at exactly the same weight this morning, so no revision of numbers needed. I was afraid I was going to go up!

Anotherducker · 27/10/2020 07:17

@VeryLittleHowl
I’ve just used my new ones and I’ve gone up 2lbs. Were you going to adjust your original weights?

PurBal · 27/10/2020 07:21

I love this diet. Fell off the wagon at the weekend because a friend cooked (I said on the last thread). I'm pretty mad with the situation but nothing I could have done bar suggesting we go out for dinner. Still a loss. Bloated as hell. Craving carbs now and haven't for months, dreading the journey back into ketosis. DH friend wants to go out this weekend, had chosen a restaurant with food I could eat and has now changed his mind to a bijou pizza place, nothing but pizza. No! So I'm not going. My health and my weight is too important.

VeryLittleHowl · 27/10/2020 07:23

@Anotherducker - yes, if I'd been up or down I'd have added or subtracted the same number of pounds to all my spreadsheet entries.

Anotherducker · 27/10/2020 07:32

Thanks I’ve changed them (actually managed myself which was a surprise)

ShagMagicRiggins · 27/10/2020 07:35

Takingon that made me laugh. For what it’s worth I nipped over your last week’s thread to admire your cauliflower cheese, so all was not in vain.

EarlGreyHot · 27/10/2020 07:49

Well done on all the losses, NSVs and determination to KOKO!

Yesterday:
B - Omelette with smoked salmon, spinach and feta
L - stuffed pepper with leftover tabbouleh
D - stir-fry w turkey mince, onion, mushrooms, green beans and bare naked rice. Sauce was tbsp each of soy sauce, oyster sauce, hot sauce and splash of rice wine vinegar (served 2).

SuperbGorgonzola to enliven steamed green beans try gently frying off a crushed garlic clove in butter and then stir through lemon zest and lemon juice, and fresh parsley (if you have any) then tip in steamed beans and coat. Works a treat!

(Is your name a Ron Swanson ref? He would approve of this way of eating, apart from the FLGV anyway!)

@ponygirlcurtis I’m afraid not. I had to google who he was :)
I just think people should be nicer to each other. More pleases and thankyous, less aggression, spread a little love . My lovely father always said manners cost nothing, everyone can afford them. Grin

Failed to weigh in yesterday, but managed this morning (on new scales, which are always worrying) to find a 2lb loss, which takes me to 8lb overall, which I'm pretty pleased with.

I also had a NSV yesterday; was on a zoom call with an old friend I'd not spoken to in ages, who announced that she was pleased to see that lockdown had been benefiting someone, and that I looked great Grin Clothes are also fitting a tiny bit better, and I'm feeling like I have more energy. It's all starting to settle into a pattern for me.

I'm not missing fruit or nuts, so won't be moving to those yet, nor am I feeling much of a booze pull. But! I'd love something that isn't fizzy water with dinner. I know they won't be perfect, but could someone give me an idea of how much a couple of them might impact weight loss, please and thank you?

That's so funny - I was already writing my post (includes the phrase "please and thank you") and posted before I read yours! I totally agree with you and your lovely dad Smile
MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 27/10/2020 08:23

Thinking of drinks, can I ask the people who've tried Sipsmith what it actually tastes like? I was tempted to buy some but it's £23 a bottle and I didn't want to spend that on something without being sure it really is like gin.

Takingontheundead · 27/10/2020 08:38

I've crept up by 0.5/1lb since i weighed sunday so no more 12s ffs

I've been good as gold so not going to overthink it. Body just being weird obviously.

But I've been regularly reaching 20 hr fasts - not pushing myself just genuinely not hungry... but did assume it'd make a difference as fasting is supposed to be a weight loss method on its own merit isn't it, lots of people talking about how 16:8 melts the weight off even with no huge changes to diet. Even when i do 16:8 which is pretty regular, my sort of baseline (i don't eat past 4pm so 16hrs is like 8.30am so easy) i don't think it does anything to help my losses?

I fast because my previously sensitive tummy feels soo much calmer and happier for it, hence why i keep it up. But I'm surprised to feel like it has no affect on me WL wise? Anyone else the same?

prettybird · 27/10/2020 08:43

Are you having enough fat if you're eating in such a small window? Are you keeping up with the water?

Write down what you're having on a daily basis and we can advise - but having said that (as you acknowledge) daily fluctuations are normal.

My current interim target, until I work out a new one, is to get into the 11s consistently as today I was just back over 12st (but I'm not doing the Shred today Wink - have my Pilates class instead Smile and haven't had a movement yet Blush)

Takingontheundead · 27/10/2020 09:04

Oh god yeah, yesterday i had the cauli cheese made with double cream and shit loads of cheese, red cabbage that was done in butter, the small amounts of carrot i had were done in oil, there was bacon on the cabbage and i had that with left over chicken. (I had at 11ish and then wasn't hugely hungry at 4 so just finished the rest off out the fridge!)

I dabble in mfp every now and then to keep track but BIWI will be pleased to know i locked myself out of my account over a week ago, and when i got back in, it was an old acc from 8 years ago meaning i lost all my tracking, my recipes etc. Was so bloody gutted so unless I'm scanning a barcode to check, I'm not using mfp anymore.

plumstone · 27/10/2020 09:06

12.1 for me, which I think is 1.5lbs. I have entered into the spreadsheet - if someone could check that would be lovely!!

Sticking with full on bootcamp this week, and maybe cut out as much dairy, feel its slipping into full on chess addiction - slices of cheddar with mayonnaise spread onto them.

Picture is very motivational @VeryLittleHowl - nice seasonal name change. Feeling very blah at the moment, work was a total pain yesterday, why do not people just do what I want, instead of thinking for themselves Grin its so frustrating. Got home, and collapsed on the sofa with aforementioned cheese and mayo slices, a cold pork chop, smoked salmon and spinach rolls. - All fine, but I do better with structured meals. Today will be better:

B - Greek Yogurt and splash of double cream
L - Pumpkin soup - cannot finish this fast enough, its not good
D - Cheeseburger pie, roasted sprouts and broccoli
W - 4 lts, C - 2

Have a great day everyone!

plumstone · 27/10/2020 09:18

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously Sainsburys on line do miniature bottle of Slipsmith for £3.00 so if you can try it that way... may be worth a shop - I investigated on week 1 and had it with Fever Tree Light mediterranean tonic - its fine - worth £23.00 not to me, but it was something different - I'll stick to my fizzy water with a variety of sliced citrus fruit to jazz it up! lime this week - possibly pink grapefruit next - the excitement is real Grin

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 27/10/2020 09:20

Thank you plumstone

Lyrata · 27/10/2020 09:23

What is the science on fasting in this WOE? I tend to have my coffee the moment I wake up. Should I try and wait?

prettyscarybird · 27/10/2020 09:27

Comes and twirls with new not very imaginative Halloween name change Halloween Smile
