Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

BIWI · 26/10/2020 08:57

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

 • you don't have to have three meals a day
 • you can have some fruit (berries)
 • you can have some nuts/seeds
 • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.
@20bloodypumpkins okay.... so best keep that to myself and not post it on a public forum Blush
I am the sort of person who needs to see data so standing on the scales, measuring my runs etc is what keeps me honest. So I shall just make sure that I tip over ever soooo slightly into a darker colour than neutral. I find the 3l of water daily hard and I easily drink 2l under normal circumstances but find 3l finds me in the loo to a ridiculous extent.
Please keep posting! I promise I won't be too hard on you. I'm lying

But also - drinking all the water is really, really important

Your body will get used to it, I promise.

Please ditch the ketostix.

@LemonSea

No change for me, I have my period and usually gain at this point, I will just keep going.

B Coffee
L Lettuce and feta
D Chicken casserole with celeriac

The boy DS sits next to in school tested positive for covid last week, we are a family of asthmatics so a bit nervy here. I reckon if we get to Friday without symptoms I can start to relax. We are quarantined obvs which is fine.

Well done on those who have lost. Don’t give up those who like me have stalled.

It doesn't sound to me like you're eating very much/enough - and certainly not enough veg/salad! Why only lettuce and feta for lunch? Especially as you're not eating breakfast?

Sending you positive anti-covid vibes!

Mimosa1 · 26/10/2020 17:28

@CrepuscularCritter could you make a nice hearty hot stew with beef, celeriac, etc. To take with you?

Sorry I cant help @NoraEphronsBoltintheNeck but hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can offer some helpful advice. Could it be that you're nearly at goal?

Thinking of Halloween names for @ShagMeRiggins... SpookMeRiggins?

BIWI · 26/10/2020 17:30

@Superspecs

Brilliant jobs everyone! Some great losses! I am 4lb down, so 6lb in total which I am.super.pleased with. I'm going to do bootcamp lite but no nuts as I think once i pop I may not be able to stop!

What are the least carby alcohols?
How much is fruit in moderation? Is 80g frozen berries every day too much?

Thanks!

80g is a serving - but the carb counts will depend on which berries you're eating. Sainsbury's frozen red berry mix are 4.6g per 80g, which isn't too bad.

@NoraEphronsBoltintheNeck

Well done in everyone's fantastic losses.

I'm feeling a bit disheartened. I continued with boot camp after end of last one and Continued to lose very slowly 1lb a week. I've started this bootcamp light and haven't lost anything at all for the past two weeks.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can kickstart things again please?

But a pound a week is great!

However, if you're doing Bootcamp Light, why not go back to full-on Bootcamp?

Have you considered introducing intermittent fasting?

@BurningGubbins

Was it this that you were looking for?!

This is what a pound of fat looks like. So next time you catch yourself thinking "I've only lost a pound" just think of this!

Y’all are cracking me up with the Halloween names. Grin

Athelstane unless it’s 3lbs into the 160s I’ll probably shit up because weight isn’t linear—as well all know.

I might do a personal striptease à la Kim Bassinger in 9 1/2 weeks to celebrate my amazingness.

Burnshersmurfs I like the way you think!

Anyway, great day of meetings and clients and income today, plus my husband has unexpectedly invited me for dinner—tonight—at a Thai place locally.

Thai food is rather shite for LCHF and I’ll do my best, but I’m not going to pass up a dinner out even though I have been slow-cooking pulled pork for a family meal all day and stir to serve The Hormoaners

WTF?! Hmm Grin

Sunseed · 26/10/2020 17:39

Blimey - that's a great visual aid - thanks BIWI!

sheepysheep · 26/10/2020 17:40

CrepuscularCritter I spend quite a lot of time in fields too... i quite like aubergine pizzas for picnic type fayre. They can be a bit messy though! Literally just cm deep rounds of aubergine pre roasted then topped with purée or pesto plus anything pizza-esque you like and some cheese. Buttered ham roll ups are another favourite and of course the humble egg muffin / crustless quiche in all its permutations. I guess it depends on how you feel about cold food - I could eat anything cold so it doesn’t bother me. Tesco were selling thermos food flasks last week for £2.50 - I’ve bought one but not tried it yet so I’m not sure how good it is. I think soup / stew / chili/ mince will be going into it. Can’t wait to try the famous cheese burger pie - I’m off shopping tomorrow. My children love anything mince based so I’m hoping they like it too. I’m thinking of making a chili version with some jalopeno in the sauce.

ShagMagicRiggins · 26/10/2020 17:41

Thank you shagme, happpy to report that all systems are now working

Hallelujah Rshard.

BIWI · 26/10/2020 17:43

Please don't shit up @ShagMagicRiggins!

Best go to in a Thai is usually chicken satay to start and then crying tiger for main, with stir-fried green veg

OP posts:
ShagMagicRiggins · 26/10/2020 17:50

Crying Tiger a great recommendation, thanks BIWI. My Go To is pad Thai but I’ll refrain. Your recommendation reminds me of the Idiot Proof Diet (IPD for those who aren’t familiar) recipe for Thai Beef Salad. I used to hoover than in 2008.

Also, shall try desperately not to shit up, ta.

CrepuscularCritter · 26/10/2020 17:53

Ooh sheepysheep I like the sound of aubergine pizza (and I guess your user name gives the outdoor concept away...). Crustless quiche is a winner too...as someone coeliac, that's normal food here.

CrepuscularCritter · 26/10/2020 17:56

And BIWitched, I want to know where I was hiding that handful last week. Grin

BIWI · 26/10/2020 18:00

@CrepuscularCritter - and anyone else interested!

@StuntNun and I have been (bravely) trying out Seriously Low carb bread

I have to say it's amazing - soft and squishy just like normal bread.

It's genuinely low carb and - so far - doesn't seem to be impacting on weight loss or blood sugar levels.

That said:

a) it's more expensive than ordinary bread
b) it's also more processed than some breads (especially organic breads)

But if you're somewhere where having a sandwich would be helpful, this is a seriously good option.

@ShagMeRiggins
Could you pls add my 4lb loss to the spreadsheet?
Thank you!

Looks like a Chinese takeaway tomorrow night for us.
Can I have some food meaty options pls?

Well done everyone!

NoraEphronsBoltintheNeck · 26/10/2020 18:32

Mimosa thanks for replying, I wish I were near goal but a good few stone to go yet!!

Biwi got my bootcamps mixed up - I was doing bootcamp proper and light in between two bootcamps.

NoraEphronsBoltintheNeck · 26/10/2020 18:33

Biwi have always followed 16/8 from end of May too.

BIWI · 26/10/2020 18:34

@poorbuthappy do you have a menu for the takeaway? If not, do they have on online you can link to?

ponygirlcurtis · 26/10/2020 18:36

Brilliant to hear about everyone's losses, really well done to everyone. Star

I am a week behind so have registered 3lb off for my first week. Teeny bit disappointed that it's not more, tbh - I have stuck to it absolutely and I had previously been consuming about a million calories a week in wine, breaded chicken, crisps and hoummous so I thought that it would have a bigger impact. But I was still eating mostly low-carb other than that so my eating isn't massively different other what I have cut out. Plus I am older and even when I was younger my weight loss was always a slow glacial process. So I have had a word with myself. Onwards and downwards, no matter how slowly it's all in the right direction.

I think I am mostly annoyed that my positively saintly efforts with not drinking haven't been magically recognised and rewarded by the diet gods, since I probably haven't gone this long without since 2014...

poorbuthappy · 26/10/2020 18:37

@BIWI sorry they're upside down.
Oh and it's not tomorrow it's now Friday. They're shut tomorrow!!!

Done. Next time, please just tell me what weight—in pounds—to add to the spreadsheet.

Very very happy to donor, not delighted to have to look up old weights etc and sums etc and I’m doing it from a phone blah blah blah...I think I need some food grumble grumble.

Sorry poorbithappy absolutely nothing against you! Flowers

ShagMagicRiggins · 26/10/2020 18:41

ponygirl how have you been with the water this past week? Three lbs not bad at all. Well done and keep it up. It’s a way of eating and it works.

poorbuthappy · 26/10/2020 18:54

@ShagMagicRiggins
Blush sorry.

lurknolinger · 26/10/2020 18:55

1.4 lb loss for me this week - which added to my 6.7lbs last week means I've lost 8.1lbs in 2 weeks. Which I'm pleased with, especially as we went out for dinner to a Moroccan restaurant at the weekend so declined the bread couscous and booze. I'm not expecting to lose much in the next 2 week, but will stick with proper BC for now. Also tried the Cheeseburger pie and roast radishes this week, thanks for all the recipes and tips.
Well done to all the losers too.
