Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

  • you don't have to have three meals a day
  • you can have some fruit (berries)
  • you can have some nuts/seeds
  • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

3lbs off here to take me down to 11st 2lbs, which is the lowest weight I've been this year. Really didn't think it was going to be that much as I was still on 11st6lbs on Friday, but the water retention caused by the bicarb drinking has whooshed over the weekend. NSV of being back in a 34" bra today Grin

8lbs gone in total and quite a difference in the shorts.

For those who are going to allow themselves some Wine or Gin in moderation - be warned that on this WoE, even in moderation they have more of an effect on you Shock

NigellaAwesome · 26/10/2020 10:00

Morning all,

Weighed at 197.5 lbs today which I think is another 1.5 lbs off this week, bringing the total to almost 6lbs.

I can't seem to get on to the spreadsheet to record this. Would someone mind adding this week's weight for me please?

20bloodypumpkins · 26/10/2020 10:00

Ooh look at all those lovely losses on the spreadsheet!

I'm down 2.6 so 4.4 pumpkins pounds overall. It feels really motivating. Yesterday I felt like I ate so much fat, with bacon and eggs, creamy coffee, pork belly. I was sure that my weight would be up this morning and I was planning to input yesterday's weight as my weekly low. But lo and behold, another 0.4 off this morning. This is truly an amazing woe.

Will keep to normal bootcamp until Friday, when dinner with my sister will include a glass or two of wine.

I made a huge batch of coleslaw yesterday so lunches will be all quite similar this week. But it is so delicious that I don't mind.

B - creamy coffee
L - avocado, ham, cheesy coleslaw
D - creamy, buttery, veg soup, then sardines on toast (early tea before a meeting)

SailingandSauvignon · 26/10/2020 10:00

3lbs off- that was my first week, not as fabulous as many other first week losses, but 3 less than last week! And, I did eat fruit & nuts as it’s been ‘interesting’’ at work. Now on 1/2 term so a little less pressure, some more sleep and better food choices!

4lbs to go til healthy BMI.

20bloodypumpkins · 26/10/2020 10:03

SomethingInTheWaySheCooks I pour a generous glug of cream into my coffee, and whizz it with the mini blender to make it frothy then I have another glug of cream directly from the pot before I put it back in the fridge Blush

ShagMeRiggins · 26/10/2020 10:05

Was it totalshambles who asked about artificial sweetener and zero sugar soda (I’m guessing Diet Coke here, we seem to ahttract a few addicts Grin).

I know BIWI has answered but my question is why would you? You’ve spent two weeks adjusting your palate and body to no sugar flavours—why undo that training?

And what benefit will you get from Diet Coke in your life?

At this stage we’re allowed a bit of fruit via berries. Why not try that first and see how the natural sugars taste?

I honestly think reincorporating artificial sweeteners and sugar-free soda is best left until the maintenance stage, or at least the end of Bootcamp. It keeps things simple and clear and the possibility of overdoing it disappears.

Having said that, if you must have a Diet Coke a good approach would be to allow it for yourself only after ALL your water for the day has been consumed. And maybe sometimes if you’re out for a meal, instead of having alcohol (although my personal preference would be the glass of wine when out).

Sweeteners, are you thinking in tea and coffee or are you talking about cooking with it...?

If, like me, you drink one tea or coffee a day, I don’t think a teaspoon of xylitol will be a problem. But I have never had a sweet tooth and generally find it incredibly easy to forego desserts and biscuits and cakes.

Good luck.

Those shorts look like you'll soon be able to attempt the zip! Wink

I was surprised! From previous experience there's an interim stage where I can get them buttoned but the zip, even when lying flat on the bed and sucking in with all my might, doesn't go anywhere Wink
ShagMeRiggins · 26/10/2020 10:17

Nigella I’ve added your weight.

If anyone else needs weight added to the spreadsheet just tag me in. I’ve just appointed myself Official Bootcamp Weight Adder Inner.

All other spreadsheet matters please continue to direct to Athelstane as I won’t be able to help. She will, I’m sure, kindly pause from making her posh teas and waft over to the spreadsheet in silky loungewear, effortless messy bun flowing atop her head in a fetching manner...

DiscontentedWoman · 26/10/2020 10:19

I can drink all the water but a couple of days out walking have meant reduced loo access so I had to knock the water on the head. Back to it today Smile I think I would have had a bigger loss if I had been able to keep up the drinking.

The kids have asked for pizza later in the week - we always do our own from scratch, and it kills a couple of hours during a wet half term. Has anyone actually had a go at any of the low carb pizza doughs? Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

CrepuscularCritter · 26/10/2020 10:23

Really excited to read all your good news. Grin I opted out on the spreadsheet, so I'm not needing this recording, but I am down a single pound. However, my scales finally expired this week between weighing in sessions and I have a new set, so who knows what the actual loss might be.Confused I will KOKO and have a better idea of what's happening by next week. And in good news, the headaches, presumably from carb flu, appear to be easing.

Lyrata · 26/10/2020 10:28

I weighed yesterday and will not be weighing again until next Sunday, but I’m still feeling very pleased with my four pounds. 4.5 total this BC.

Is anyone else waking up terribly early? I’ve been up since 6 which has made me snack as I’m pretty sure my body thinks it’s lunchtime.

Breakfast (6am) - coffee with cream
Snack (10.20am) - creamed leeks
Lunch - mushroom pate with crudités
Dinner - leftover Sunday lunch: beef, kale, leeks (with possibly some additional freshly roasted radishes (I am in love))

itsmeagainagain · 26/10/2020 10:29

@ShagMeRiggins please could you add my weight I can’t do it from my phone... I’m down 3lbs to 12 at 2 lbs thanks x

Thing101 · 26/10/2020 10:36

Well done all! I think I'm going to stick to full BC while I'm in the zone!

@DiscontentedWoman there is a thing called Fathead pizza which I think is cauliflower based - I've never made it of course, but have seen it lauded in several places!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 26/10/2020 10:52

I'm going to keep on with tea and coffee minus sweeteners. I don't like it as much but I know it's healthier. Will also not go back to diet drinks as mixers for the reason stated above. If I'm going to drink, it will be a glass of red wine or a whisky with ice (which I believe is no carb?)
I've missed nut butter on celery, but I have always been careful about nuts so I don't think it will be a problem for me with portion size.
Well done everyone on their losses. Am very surprisingly 2.5 pounds down today which I truly wasn't expecting, since things have been up and down this week.

AthelstaneTheUndeady · 26/10/2020 10:53

Thanks Shag!

Nothing for me, but hoping to ditch the heavy-duty painkillers this week which are puffing me up, so will have another couple of weeks of BC heavy before going out of my head on mincepies and wine BC light.

Notwatchingtvtoday · 26/10/2020 10:54

SomethingInTheWaySheCooks I use my biggest teaspoon 😀 and add 1 teaspoon of double cream to coffee

ShagMeRiggins · 26/10/2020 10:58

itsmeagainagain by my calculations 12 stone 2 is 170lbs but that was your weight for last week so doesn’t reflect your 3lb loss.

Was last week’s weight wrong? Sorry, I can put in 167 but wanted to double check. That would be 11atone something.

Or I can click the conversion tab when I have a sec and see if I’m doing something wrong!

sheepysheep · 26/10/2020 11:04

Well done everyone - verylittleowl that’s some impressive belly reduction! kleptronic I’m with you - I put a bit on too. I could make excuses and say it was water retention in my muscles from mountain biking last night but the truth is that I was on week 3 last week and was a bit too liberal with the black chocolate and nuts. Back on boot camp proper this week...

CrepuscularCritter · 26/10/2020 11:12

That was meant to be a big grin at all your losses, but somehow I ended up with two confused emojis.

StuntNun · 26/10/2020 11:12

@DiscontentedWoman it's Fathead Pizza you want. https://www.ditchthecarbs.com/fat-head-pizza/

Hopeislostinthehauntedhouse · 26/10/2020 11:14

@DiscontentedWoman I've tried quite a few low carb pizzas. The fathead dough (made from cheese, egg and ground almonds) is nice but v filling so only count on managing a slice or two. And it's a bit of a faff so I'd recommend doubling up and freezing half.

I'm not a fan of the cauliflower-based pizzas as too much cauli sets off my IBS. My favourites are the chicken breast or portobello 'pizzas'.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 26/10/2020 11:14

I had an awful week last week! I had 2 meals with carbs and I am paying the price. Dont worry at BIWI, I've been beating myself with a big stick. On top of it all AF decided to visit.

My weight today : 14st 10. My weight a few days ago before the carbs is on the scales in the photo. It wasnt worth it!!
