Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

  • you don't have to have three meals a day
  • you can have some fruit (berries)
  • you can have some nuts/seeds
  • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

Should say @BIWI not at

prettybird · 26/10/2020 11:18

Looking at the ingredients for the low carb bread, I'm going to have a go at inventing an enriched loaf (ie with eggs and oil) using vital wheat gluten, flaxseed, seeds, physillum husks and a small amount of my sourdough starter (so it will have a wee bit of flour but the gluten will have been partially "eaten" by the yeast and lactobacillus). It might be a disaster Shock but it's worth the experimentGrin

I just need to get some vital wheat gluten first.

CeibaTree · 26/10/2020 11:21

I haven't lost any this week, but I blame my period for that! I'm going to stick to regular bootcamp for a while until I see some more weight shift.

Have a great week everyone :)

Choux · 26/10/2020 11:26

I'm 1lb down which I'm happy with as I only committed to joining boot camp yesterday.

First goal is to lose another couple of pounds to get back in the 11s. Would love to see that next week so will stay on boot camp.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 26/10/2020 11:29

I'll be sticking to regular bootcamp too Blush And I'm posting my meals in here again from now on. I clearly need the accountability and can't be trusted to go it alone!

B. Cheese and onion omelette
L. I haven't decided yet, probably mackerel in oil salad with buttered spinach.
D. Indian buttered chicken with cauli rice.

Aiming for 3L of water, 900ml down so far.

LadyLazarus20 · 26/10/2020 11:35

Well done everyone on all the success! I am down 2 pounds and enjoying the feel of less bloat.

Trying to avoid breakfast as I get too hungry in the mornings. I'm also trying to up my water intake.

LadyLazarus20 · 26/10/2020 11:35

That should have been as I DON'T get to hungry in the mornings.

SomethingInTheWaySheCooks · 26/10/2020 12:03

DiscontentedWoman It is Portobello pizzas all the way for us. Just take a couple of whole portobello mushrooms, lay flat on oven tray and top with pizza sauce, toppings and mozzarella. They are delicious!

prettybird · 26/10/2020 12:06

Woohoo! I'm into the 11s ShockGrin - didn't expect that this week Shock. Down to 11st 13.5lb, that's 3.5lb this week and 11.5lb overall GrinShock

Going to be sticking to strict 16:8 during the week, as that seems to be working in stopping the "habit snacking" (a supplemental incentive to the Big Stick for breaking the Rules by eating when not hungry Wink) and continuing to try to get to bed before midnight.

Will be having some bubbly hopefully at the end of the week to celebrate having a warm house after c8 years of problems with the heating.

BurningGubbins · 26/10/2020 12:10

Some great losses and maintenance!

I am 1.4lbs down, which at this stage of the game for me is just where I want to be. My goal this week is to lose the pound that would see me at my wedding weight.

BIWI in the last bootcamp you posted a pic of what a pound of fat looks like. I can’t find it now but if you have it to hand might be worth a repost as it’s pretty striking.

BasicMadeira · 26/10/2020 12:16

Love to see the shorts updates @VeryLittleOwl
Hang on in there @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer!
I am staying in bootcamp this week as I put on a lb. went off the wagon yesterday in a very lazy slide into bad habits way. I also have not been exercising so that needs to be addressed. The short jog/run I do I think makes more of a difference to my head than my body but it's all good.
I did buy those keto sticks for checking my wee and moved up two places last week so this week I am hoping to move further up the colour chart. I find them very inspiring and keep me motivated.
Good luck everyone x

Solongsugar · 26/10/2020 12:19

@ShagMeRiggins, can my weights be added please! +2 last week but s lovely 5 off this week. Thank you!

prettybird · 26/10/2020 12:24

My weekly belt watch. It does up! Smile I could wear it as it's only marginally uncomfortable Wink

Target is not to have muffin top over it and ideally to get to the third or fourth hole, which is where I used to wear it.

1WildTeaParty · 26/10/2020 12:27

I have UNDER 180lb on the scales this morning Halloween Smile
(179.4... but definately under - I checked twice and changed the batteries).

That is about 8lb loss so far despite 'that age' and its related slow-buring of fuel effects. Less than a stone to go.

Hoping to hang on to that loss for the difficult weeks 3 and 4 :)

I like the idea of sticking to strict bootcamp during the week and relaxing to bootcamp lite at weekends for (some) wine and nuts and berries.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 26/10/2020 12:31

Thanks @BasicMadeira I will, you too! My head is hanging so low with shame today I have friction burns on my chin!

Rshard · 26/10/2020 12:40

Lots of pesky pounds gone forever, everyone’s doing so well! And loving the shorts and belt progress verylittleowl and prettybird

I’ve stayed the same but have been having a ahem toilet issue for a few days - feel the need to go but when I go to the loo - nothing. It’s like it’s stuck. So sorry for the tmi, I’m not a poo troll I promise. Dh fetched me some ‘softener’ from the chemist and I’m eating flgv so I’m hoping that does the trick!

Oneborneverydecade · 26/10/2020 12:42

2.5lb down for me which I'm v happy with as I'd sts until Sunday. I'm now 1.5lb off 3st.

I bought radishes this morning so I'll be joining #teamfraggle asap

Congratulations to everyone on their losses, big and small.

20bloodypumpkins · 26/10/2020 12:45

basicmadeira you might get a gentle thwack from BIWI

Like you, I have used ketostix in the past, but only for the first 2 weeks so that I was certain I was eating the right things, and to motivate me to get into the groove. But please don't expect, or try, to increase the level of ketosis. If you are drinking the right amounts of water then you shouldn't be getting much more than low levels of ketones. Plus it is really important to eat in a healthy way - lots of salads, lots of low carb veg - and all of those do contain carbs.

There are some keto sites which focus on bullet proof coffee, loads of cheese, fatty meat, nuts, high fat puddings (made with sweetener) or fat-bomb treats. They will all deepen the colour of the ketostix, but overall the diet is not balanced, and probably not sustainable.

Chasing ketones is the wrong way to go. Focus on other more healthy NSVs. bit of stick waving of my own there, sorry

itsmeagainagain · 26/10/2020 12:48

@ShagMeRiggins

itsmeagainagain by my calculations 12 stone 2 is 170lbs but that was your weight for last week so doesn’t reflect your 3lb loss.

Was last week’s weight wrong? Sorry, I can put in 167 but wanted to double check. That would be 11atone something.

Or I can click the conversion tab when I have a sec and see if I’m doing something wrong!

@ShagMeRiggins I think I’m losing it!! Just seen I posted I was 11 stone 2 last week and I wasn’t I was 12 stone 2 which means I’ve stayed the same 🙄 thanks anyway will have a check in my diary too in case I’ve messed up!
prettybird · 26/10/2020 12:48

Wot she said Wink

prettybird · 26/10/2020 12:49

Hmm My ^ disappeared Confused

Pleaseandthankyou · 26/10/2020 12:50

Delighted to say I am 4lbs down. Going to try to stick to 16:8 as I have got used to not having breakfast - something I didn't think would be possible. I have been reading all the posts - very inspiring, thank you all

prettybird · 26/10/2020 12:50

I was trying to reiterate what 20bloodypumpkins had so beautifully said about ketosis.

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/10/2020 12:51

I think I'll stick to full bootcamp this week and see how I go. I'd like to lose another couple of pounds this week, but I'm ok with less than that. I'm even ok with sts as I'm doing this for blood sugar reasons rather than weight loss reasons.

I've got to buy new bras this week too 😃 My current bras are now too big, even on the smallest hook. Unfortunately, there isn't anywhere near me that measures properly as our independent bra shop closed back in March ☹️ I'll have to measure myself and order online.

Someone might have beaten me to it as this week your weight showed at 175, but that doesn’t seem to calculate with what you stated (I have you at 177)

Please will you confirm your weight at weigh in today solongsugar and not make me do the sums? Grin
