Morning all.

Sorry if you're chomping at the bit to announce your loss this morning!

Here's the spreadsheet

Some great losses already posted, so well done.

But don't despair if you haven't lost as much as others. Remember, this isn't a competition. We're all here with different startpoints, and everyone loses at a different rate anyway.

Hi BIWI thanks so much, we are visiting our daughter so I am fitting in with rest of my family, I will go safe with the steak and veg. To be honest it is not about the food, more the company and being out 😀

I will swerve the starters, by getting them to order a sharing plate and I will just have some olives. The alcohol does not bother me fortunately.

Thanks again

Notwatchingtvtoday · 23/10/2020 10:38

And not having to prepare or clear up 😀

StuntNun · 23/10/2020 11:02

@plumstone sparkling water is fine from a low carb point of view. This article mentions some of the health benefits of drinking sparkling water.

There's the wine and crisps of an evening, the Saturday morning visit to our local bakery for sourdough and fancy buns, pizza with the kids...
@EarlGreyHot what would you drink instead of wine? I sometimes put a herbal fruit teabag in a big bottle of sparkling water and have that with ice and a slice for a low carb alternative to alcohol. Instead of crisps you could have cheese crisps, kale crisps, pork scratchings, celery batons with cream cheese dip. I sometimes have chicken wings or ribs if I want an evening snack - but check labels carefully as some are very carby, try to go for ones with a separate sachet of sauce that you can leave out. Do you have to go to the bakery? Is there anything low carb you could get there? How about going out for coffee instead/as well. Could you get some nice soft fruit such as raspberries in readiness for Monday when we move to Bootcamp Light, so you've got something to look forward to after making it through the weekend. Incidentally Greek yogurt with a scattering of raspberries and a little dark chocolate grated on top is a fantastic treat when we're on to Bootcamp Light. My DS2 invented it and he calls it Bressert because you can have it for breakfast or dessert! What could you have instead of pizza? You could try a cauliflower crust or make a meatzza from pork or pork and beef mince.

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously it's really common for periods to stop weight loss but they don't stop fat loss so long as you stay on plan. You'll probably see a drop on the scales within a week of your period starting.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 23/10/2020 11:23

Thank you StuntNun.

EarlGreyHot · 23/10/2020 11:36

@StuntNun wow thanks for all the suggestions Flowers

I love sparkling water so will pick some of that up and pop some lime in it... pretend it's a g and t! Love the chicken wings/ribs idea too so will stick that on the list. Unfortunately we're in NI so takeaway coffee only. I think we'll just give the usual bakery routine a miss this week.

I only started on Monday so no Bootcamp light to look forward to just yet. I've ordered some low carb bread so that should arrive in time for next weekend. Halloween is a big deal for us so I'll be prepping meals and tasty snacks well in advance!

CrepuscularCritter · 23/10/2020 11:47

Hoping the carb flu will be on its way soon; it's been mostly headaches with me, and I am keeping my water level up. Hope everyone else feeling poorly is on the mend.

I've been enjoying the food I've made although I welcome the suggestions for having things that are ready to go in the fridge. I had a go at cheese crisps last night while I was cooking, and I'm pleased to report they work with lactose free cheese too (am very lactose intolerant). Today is going to be broccoli soup with bacon crumbled on top, then some kind of beef casserole with cauliflower mash for dinner.

LemonSea · 23/10/2020 11:51

Bad night for me, all period related, I will spare you the details, it’s more a menopause thread thing. I weighed as I thought I must have surely lost some more weight but noooo I have gained 3 lbs! I am ignoring it, it’s all period nonsense.

B Coffee
L Piece of cold chicken
D Roast cauliflower and eggs or chicken

Just aiming to get through today. Rest of family getting a takeaway.

Don’t get derailed by “it’s Friday” everyone, it could undo days of good eating. KOKO

20bloodypounds · 23/10/2020 11:59

I love sparkling water. I've got a soda stream and always have a bottle of fizz in the fridge. Served in a crystal glass, with ice, lemon or lime, or maybe a drop or two of angostura bitters...

I've been making a real effort on drinking all my water, although I do find it more difficult when I'm out of the house and rushing to the toilet At home I drink a glass of water whenever I go to the kitchen, so when I'm waiting for the kettle to boil, or putting something in the dishwasher. And I always have a big glass of water on my desk.

B - creamy coffee
L - creamy leek and cabbage soup, and a piece of left-over chicken stuffed with brie and wrapped in pancetta, with salad and mayo
D - a sort of kedgeree made with vegetable 'rice'

I notice that my appetite has reduced so there's lots of leftovers for lunch, and the eggs / avocado / tuna mayo that I would normally have are being left uneaten. I've already got leftover veg for tomorrow's lunch (with fried eggs) and there will no doubt be left-over kedgeree for Sunday. And somehow I have to squeeze in my bacon and scrambled egg weekend brunch! I know I could have the leftovers for dinner, I do that if I'm on my own, but cooking and eating a delicious dinner are one of the few pleasures left severely restricted Scottish lockdown location

DiscontentedWoman · 23/10/2020 12:06

Tier 3 disappointments meant I fell head first into half a toasted bagel yesterday morning Blush onwards and upwards though.
Enjoying pâté smooshed onto celery sticks for lunch. I'm watching Nadia use grated potato to make a shell for quiche and pondering if swede or celeriac might do a similar job... I feel an experiment coming on Grin

LemonSea · 23/10/2020 12:37

Correction to above, not enough fat now I look at it, tinned sardines and avocado for L instead of chicken.

Rshard · 23/10/2020 12:44

Love the Friday/Monday weighing idea poorbuthappy, that’s exactly how my mind works too!

Jdhshekr · 23/10/2020 12:46

I’ve just had some leftover cheeseburger pie for lunch. I had a brainwave and ate some gherkins with it (not too bad for carbs as long as you don’t eat loads) for that ‘McDonalds’ flavour 😂 Handy if you’re craving junk food. Now all I need to do is fashion a low carb Big Mac sauce and I’m all set.

Seriously though, I have eaten that much cheeseburger pie over the past week that I never want to see it again.

BIWitched · 23/10/2020 12:49

Why didn't you just freeze it?!

LadyLazarus20 · 23/10/2020 12:51

@BIWI Hello, is is possible to join in with this a week late? I'm trying to get back on track with low carbing as really improves my health and general wellbeing. I also have some weight to lose so would love to join you all!

BIWitched · 23/10/2020 12:53

Of course it is! The very lovely @AthelstaneTheUndeady will add you to the spreadsheet - what's your starting weight?

poorbuthappy · 23/10/2020 13:10

I can't explain how much I bloody love roasted kale.
Especially with halloumi wrapped in bacon.

VeryLittleOwl · 23/10/2020 13:12

Thank the Gods for the NHS and antibiotics - 2 days of them and I'm feeling a lot better. Thanks to everyone who sent Flowers Turnedouttoes I hope you're on the mend as well.

Lunch: cheese and veg omelette, yoghurt
Supper: no idea, DH is wandering around the house like a lost soul, musing about what to cook. I sense a Tesco trip coming on!

For the next five days I'll be eating ALL the yoghurt to try and stave off the semi-inevitable bout of thrush from the antibiotics! (Worked last time, so fingers crossed.)

ShagMeRiggins · 23/10/2020 13:22

I’m with BIWI on freezing the pie, Jdhshkr (what a name to type out, sheesh! Grin), but maybe you’ll change your mind in a month or so.

I really enjoyed the cheeseburger pie—amazingly it did taste very cheeseburgery—and the gherkin idea is inspired. I couldn’t eat it days on a row, though, but my god my husband and eldest son went batshit for it. Husband hasn’t stopped referring to it!

For the sauce, I’ve attached a few copycat ingredients lists from the net. I’ve had success with a lot of these sites when trying to recreate favourite American foods, especially sauces. Have a go!

My daily weigh ins are looking positive but again I won’t jinx anything. Even if there’s no loss I’ll still be 7lbs down in two weeks and my goal for these 10 weeks of Bootcamp is 20lbs so if I stick to what I’m doing I feel very positive about achieving, which would be seismic for me and take me to a scary (good) weight I haven’t seen in a very long time.

This sort of maintenance phase I’ve been in has been good psychologically, but I’m starting to look almost normal in the mirror (never mind the tits, they’ll always make me look fat from certain angles). It’s taken a bit of getting used to and now I want to see how far I can push it rather than be complacent my 60+lbs loss but still quite overweight/not healthy BMI.

Honestly, I’m so used to being The Fat One, it’s a whole new world.

Anyway, WATER y’all and hang tough through the weekend. You can all do this—it’s so worth it.

Good but ordinary menu yesterday - omelette breakfast, salad & yogurt lunch, courgetti bolognese for dinner.

I seem to have cracked the boredom/fancy something snacking and am definitely less hungry, which is a stage I've never really reached before and should help get the last few pounds off, particularly combined with some fasting and exercise.

Will definitely buy a big bottle of sparkling water to liven up a dry weekend again.

Breakfast - two boiled eggs mid morning (swim/fast day)
Lunch - salmon mayo on salad. Bought a tin of salmon on a whim, probably haven't eaten it since childhood; bit disturbed when I realised there was skin and bones to faff with so nice enough but unlikely to repeat! Yogurt.
Dinner tonight will be one of our lockdown favourites: moussaka boats. Lamb mince with some veg/moussaka style spices on aubergine "boats". It's based on a recipe from "Real Meal Revolution - Raising Superheroes" which I would recommend for low carb family cooking. Ironically my relatively unfussy toddler has no time for this recipe...which is from the toddler section of the book.

I have OCD relating to food hygiene and cannot freeze food because I have too much anxiety over whether it is ok or not. I logically know that it’s fine, but if I froze it I’d never be able to eat it because I’d spend the next two days having panic attacks that I’d poisoned everyone.

prettybird · 23/10/2020 13:28

ShagMeRiggins - I tend to start the name with an @ so that I don't need to type it (especially the long or complicated ones) and then swapping the @ with a * at both ends (so that it doesn't trigger the email).

I’m curious—is that the kind of thing you would have eaten before trying Bootcamp or did you try it based on recommendations/limitations?

Asking only because one of the fab things for me over the years has been exposure to foods and ingredients I never would have thought of. And I’m reasonably well-travelled and had tried all sorts!

Rayna37 · 23/10/2020 13:34

One tip for the weekend, especially in lockdown, is to have a "recipe night" - shop for and cook something more involved or new to you that you wouldn't try on a weekday. A curry from scratch or any of those things that have a long list of ingredients and use lots of pans!

Part of me thinks I should be taking advantage of being able to get a table at all the great local restaurants easily and supporting the ones I want to survive. However I also want to stay on track so putting it off at least until bc light. Babysitters also not strictly allowed, Tier 2. Maybe a nice lunch or early evening thing and we're definitely out for DHs big birthday in a couple of weeks.
