Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - our last week!

BIWI · 27/07/2020 08:18

It's odd, thinking back to when Bootcamp first started, how different things were. 9/10 weeks doesn't seem like it's a very long time, but it seems a very long time ago since we began, and we were in a very different place - with Covid-19 - to where we are now.

It is all feeling much more optimistic. Hopefully things will continue in this positive vein, and we can all get back to some kind of normality - or whatever is going to pass for normal now.

I hope very much that this Bootcamp has done what it set out to, i.e. to refocus us all and get back into the swing of a healthier way of eating, a healthier mindset and ways of caring for ourselves.

Flowers

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet

Next Monday will be the final weigh-in, so I hope that this last week is a successful one for us all.

Blimey @Rshard you weren't wrong about that early start! I'm going for my (much more leisurely swim!) after work.

Weight fluctuations are MASSIVE at the moment - 3kg! Not sure if this is normal - but health improvements feel good. Definitely sticking with it!

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 28/07/2020 10:35

That's interesting @Takingontheworld

Maybe I should stop worrying and just see how it goes.

I think for me the key will be to stay on the ball. It was a slow weight gain that I ignored. When the battery ran out of the scales I didn't replace for about 4 months. Now I will weigh at least once a week and do something if I see even a small bump.

I think vanity sizing and the trend of cocoon dresses also made it bad. I could hide in my collection of Whistles tents dresses and mud myself I had gained 20lbs!

My eating habits were shocking after having kids because we had snacks in the house and I grazed on stuff the kids left. One of the most interesting things for me joining boot camp as a lurker at the start of the year was how many times I had to stop myself grabbing sweets / scoffing a spare dough ball, eating a cracker etc. It's been a really good reset of behaviour.

Eggbound · 28/07/2020 12:03

Thanks @BIWI.

Well done all with the inspiring losses and habit shifts.

I've just completed my sixth week and am 10.4lb down. Weekly loss of 1.4lb. I'm really pleased with this. I feel slimmer, and I just don't get bloated (and gassy Blush) anymore, which is a revelation. With this WOE, there seem to be so many pluses beyond weight loss, which I find are keeping my motivation up to stick with it.

I don't know if this is definitely a LCHF NSV, or just random, but my irritable bladder has been 100% calm these past six weeks, even with having reintroduced a couple of cups of coffee a day. I started to get flare-ups for the first time a couple of years ago, at 40, and cut out coffee, which I hadn't long introduced. It helped, but I'd still get debilitating flare-ups (e.g. urgency and frequency - like a UTI but without the burning) until relatively recently. But absolutely nothing during these six weeks of LCHF eating. Could sugar be a trigger maybe?

Also, yesterday, I wasn't due to be working, but something urgent came up at work with a 5pm deadline. The older kids looked after the little one and I just stormed it, submitting at 4.36pm. Grin I got to dinner on two cups of creamy coffee and a slice of Brie (and All The Water), and didn't feel hungry, and was just so mentally sharp (for me!). I haven't experienced the mega energy some people talk of having on keto, but I do feel much more even in my energy and concentration - no afternoon slump. I said to DP I couldn't have done it if I hadn't been eating this way. I felt like Wonder Woman! Grin

So @BIWI, do we just keep going with LCHF long-term then, post-bootcamp? Is that how you eat normally yourself?

(I ordered Keto Kitchen - thanks to the poster who recommended. It has some lovely-looking recipes.)

NoraEphronsneck · 28/07/2020 13:11

Having said I'd not lost any weight yesterday, today I'm 2lbs down so I've gone with that for the spreadsheet...

Rshard · 28/07/2020 16:55

Definitely log that 2lbs nora!

venusandmars · 28/07/2020 17:02

Went out for a birthday lunch. The menu was more restricted than advertised - great set of starters but the mains were all a bit iffy and carby. Then I spotted a haloumi and mushroom burger with rocket salad and guacamole. For some mad reason I interpreted that in my keto brain exactly as it was written. I was a bit shocked to find it served in a bun and accompanied by fries, it hadn't even crossed my mind Grin I suppose to normal people 'burger' automatically means a bun and chips with some kind of filling. It's so long since I've ordered one that I thought it would just be the filling, like I would have at home!

venusandmars · 28/07/2020 17:03

But I wasn't tempted by the bun, and I only ate 2 chips.

Choux · 28/07/2020 17:18

Hi everyone - after a week of celeriac remoulade (when shredded it goes a lot further than it looks as a whole vegetable so I was eating it for days) I lost 0.8lb. Was hoping for a bit more but the scales are another 0.4lb down today so think it is just timing. I just logged the 0.8lb though.

This is the last week? So there isn't another bootcamp starting next week? Will there be a thread at least for those of us who will still be KOKO? I have a few more months of weight loss to go before I can even think of moving onto a maintain WOE.

This week am trying to be strict as am meeting friends on Saturday so there will me lots of opportunities to eat. I will be staying LCHF though - there's already a veggie and a pescatarian in the group so what's another dietary requirement when finding a suitable place for a socially distant meal for four households (think we need to be two tables of two households). We might end up with a takeaway in the garden!!!

I don't start a new Bootcamp straight after each one has finished. I need a bit of a break! Herding cats is easier

However, we do keep the chat thread going, and there are always plenty of people who are here, so lots of support and chat.

BrassicaBabe · 28/07/2020 17:34

Checking in. Not had a chance to catch up yet. But think I spotted some great losses.

They've changed my HRT med. This is now day 2 of massive migraine! Waiting to hear back from doc. But...migraine makes me eat!! 😩😩😩 I could demolish a loaf of bread! (Think it's a recognised effect).

Takingontheworld · 28/07/2020 17:35

Bit upset to weigh in at 14.2.2 instead of 14.1.8 as i did yesterday, for literally zero reason i can think of. But I'm ignoring it for now. I've done a 4 mile rural walk today and just eaten this veg laden beaut so I'll weigh again for a sneak peak thurs AM and see whats cracking.

I saw a close friend i haven't seen in months and months and she said absolutely nothing so that really confirms that its not noticeable at all yet. I can't wrap my head around 2 whole stones being unnoticeable! Its frustrating me aswell as spurring me on impatiently.

Thinking of buying a treadmill. Its too fucking hilly here for outdoor runs and i don't have enough childfree time either... any thoughts? Will neighbor's hate me?

Takingontheworld · 28/07/2020 17:36

I also just threw DS's have eaten gloriously toasted and buttery bagel straight in foodwaste instead of gobbling it like i momentarily considered.

BrassicaBabe · 28/07/2020 17:42

I haven't demolished a loaf of bread bu the way. But I've eaten heaps more pepperami and cheese than is necessary Hmm

Is cheese ever unnecessary?

This isn't a good thing to get upset about - it's hardly a huge increase! It's quite natural for your body weight to fluctuate on a daily basis, so you do need to understand and get used to that.

Are you sure your weight loss isn't noticeable? Or do you just have the kind of friends/colleagues who wouldn't comment on your weight? After all, if someone says to you 'have you lost weight?' they're actually saying that they've noticed that you were fat! A lot of people are very sensitive about saying something in case they upset you.

Hi @Choux I will certainly be continuing BC - I also have a while to lose and would like to carry on. Another 20kg is my aim, for health reasons.

You got the POWER @Takingontheworld, you defeater of stodgy breadiness! A little slither of salted butter will melt in your mouth even more deliciously, have that instead if you fancy.

Ooh @BrassicaBabe, feel for you with the migraine. Awful, awful things - I'm so impressed by the fortitude to cheese your way through it. Definitely medicinal cheese.

Today:
B - bowl of watercress, smoked salmon, mozzarella ball, black pepper and huge drizzle of olive oil.
L -breqkfast kept me full till 3! So had a first attempt at a chia pudding. 15grams chia seeds, in a blob of double cream and 3 tablespoons of yoghurt, bit of vanilla essence and a splash of black chai tea (I got worried they were going to swell up inside me!!). Yummy!
D - just been for a swim, DP is roasting chicken breasts with leeks in the chicken juices as a side. Am hungry now I can smell it, but loving that I felt great during exercise (dont be getting all impressed now, it's a quick 15 min walk to the pool, was 40 mins and 36 slow lengths, and a 14 min walk back!). My stress-hunched upper spine feels FABULOUS after a few lengths of backstroke though -i read it was best for spinal relaxation and alignment. I am wonky though, so can only do it when noone else is in the pool!

Thanks so much for this WOE @BIWI and everyone for their advice, chat and support.

8Track · 28/07/2020 20:46

Breasts?! No, chicken thighs. Crispy crispy skinned deliciousness....

AWryGiraffe · 28/07/2020 21:12

I had a handful of walnuts for breakfast, lunch was two eggs fried in butter with spinach, dinner was low carb pasta (edamame and mung beam) with a tomato sauce with courgette and red pepper with mozzarella in the sauce and green beans. Bit of dark choc as a snack.

NigellaAwesome · 28/07/2020 21:49

Hello! I haven't weighed this week as I am On Holiday! We are in France and can't quite believe we managed to get here. In last week's thread there was chat about the a, b or c approach to holiday eating. We have been away for 4 days, and I started at a, and am now hovering between b and c. Had moules frites tonight, but gave 3/4 of the frites away and 1/2 the moules. Annoyingly I am the designated driver all holiday, and I find it hard to watch DH happily knocking back several beers and wines whilst I pray for the bill to come.

Anyway, it is glorious - swimming in the river every day, kayaking today, walks to waterfalls, scenic villages, gorgeous food, and welcoming hospitality. Covid measures a bit hit and miss. Mask wearing is widespread and compulsory indoors, but social distancing is terrible!

🌷🌷 to MrsK and Takingontheworld

After being mentioned in dispatches a couple of weeks ago, I feel I have slipped a bit. More nuts, more berries, and the start of alcohol saw a slight rise, but then back down again. I'm just going to do the best I can on hols, and try to claw back once home.

AWryGiraffe · 28/07/2020 21:56

Where are you in France?

cad186 · 28/07/2020 22:30

Takingontheworld I agree with BIWI, people have probably noticed your weight loss but are just unsure whether they should comment or not. You are doing really well to have lost 2 stone, don't get disheartened!

Rshard · 29/07/2020 07:04

Hope that the migraine has passed brassica

Another one hanging around between boot camps choux

Exercise is exercise 8track, doesn’t matter how fast/slow/far - you’re doing more than those sat on the sofa!

So jealous nigella, sounds lovely. France is a beautiful country, enjoy!

StuntNun · 29/07/2020 07:21

Quick question: my Tesco delivery substituted 0% fat yogurt for my usual yogurt. Is it okay to eat it anyway? I have some double cream I can mix in to get some fat in it.

BIWI · 29/07/2020 07:24

Definitely put the cream in it - it makes the yoghurt much more enjoyable and palatable as well as increasing your fat.
