Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - our last week!

BIWI · 27/07/2020 08:18

It's odd, thinking back to when Bootcamp first started, how different things were. 9/10 weeks doesn't seem like it's a very long time, but it seems a very long time ago since we began, and we were in a very different place - with Covid-19 - to where we are now.

It is all feeling much more optimistic. Hopefully things will continue in this positive vein, and we can all get back to some kind of normality - or whatever is going to pass for normal now.

I hope very much that this Bootcamp has done what it set out to, i.e. to refocus us all and get back into the swing of a healthier way of eating, a healthier mindset and ways of caring for ourselves.

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet

Next Monday will be the final weigh-in, so I hope that this last week is a successful one for us all.

@NigellaAwesome

Hello! I haven't weighed this week as I am On Holiday! We are in France and can't quite believe we managed to get here. In last week's thread there was chat about the a, b or c approach to holiday eating. We have been away for 4 days, and I started at a, and am now hovering between b and c. Had moules frites tonight, but gave 3/4 of the frites away and 1/2 the moules. Annoyingly I am the designated driver all holiday, and I find it hard to watch DH happily knocking back several beers and wines whilst I pray for the bill to come.

Anyway, it is glorious - swimming in the river every day, kayaking today, walks to waterfalls, scenic villages, gorgeous food, and welcoming hospitality. Covid measures a bit hit and miss. Mask wearing is widespread and compulsory indoors, but social distancing is terrible!

🌷🌷 to MrsK and Takingontheworld

After being mentioned in dispatches a couple of weeks ago, I feel I have slipped a bit. More nuts, more berries, and the start of alcohol saw a slight rise, but then back down again. I'm just going to do the best I can on hols, and try to claw back once home.

This sounds glorious! Not so much the designated driver bit though 😁 I'm really missing holidays right now.

Oh did i miss something RE dispatches?

Biwi, i know. Its pathetic. I'm just desperate to see 13st something. I haven't in sooo long!

It's not pathetic at all - we all understand and we've all been there/are there!!!

Just KOKO and it will happen for you. Just need to be patient (even if people don't like me telling them that Wink)

Literally the least patient person on the planet 😂

Oh God. They're all eating bagels downstairs and the smellllllll

Rshard · 29/07/2020 08:30

Ignore the bagels taking!

FizzyPink · 29/07/2020 08:47

@Choux I’ll also definitely be carrying on, I’m only in my third week as I fell off the wagon almost straight away at the beginning of this bootcamp and still more than 10lbs heavier than I was at the end of the last one.

With the unveiling of our new garden last week we seem to have offered to host three BBQs this weekend Blush What’s everyone’s favourite low carb BBQ offerings? I can’t wait to get some halloumi on there and maybe some prawn kebabs as well

BIWI · 29/07/2020 08:53

We always have halloumi on ours - with a lovely lemon, garlic and coriander dressing.

Aubergine slices are good too, just make sure they're thick slices, and that they've been drizzled with a lot of olive oil before they go on the barbecue. I serve those with a yoghurt dressing - just plain yoghurt into which I crush a small clove of garlic and the grated zest of an orange.

Sometimes do a butterflied leg of lamb, that I marinate for several hours beforehand in Moroccan or Indian spices, and then serve with cauliflower couscous and harissa.

And always, always sausages!

Morning! Have been AWOL for a while, due to ridiculous low mobility from shoulder injury and ridiculous over-pressure at work.

getting some headspace back for BC now, so just in time for the end, will be rejoining...

Freetodowhatiwant · 29/07/2020 09:44

Have I been AWOL too long to be remembered? I relied so much on this thread for the first few weeks we started it but three weeks ago finally managed to make it over here to Spain and get out of my lock-down separation (with DH after 20 years) and here with the kids to Spain. Life is good here, it feels like proper summer. Ok we are wearing masks which isn't much fun in the heat but we can laze around and to the beach and pool. When I think of, say, the first 6 weeks of lockdown sitting drinking wine in the garden and being really low (although thank god we had the wine and the garden) I breathe a massive sigh of relief.

WOE-wise I am not doing too hideously, all things considered, despite a bit of alcohol (and a lot of alcohol some nights as it was my birthday!), the odd ice cream and the odd bit of fruit. I am still doing 16:8 and have got to the point where I look pretty slim and I am happy to stand around in a bikini (or lie down but not sit up of course...).

Today I am 60.65kg although I feel these scales are slightly lighter than my ones in the UK I have still been losing so that is the main thing. I will update the spreadsheet of fab as I am now 133.71036 (to be exact...) which I think is....just checking spreadsheet now...a total loss of 13.7!! I am so pleased!!! I am now back to the weight I was last summer and I really really really hope I can stay this slim from now on.

Thank you all so much for your support and the hard work of BIWI you put into this. It really makes a massive difference to life in general to lose weight and be happier with the way we look.

FizzyPink · 29/07/2020 09:52

Wow @BIWI those are brilliant suggestions, thank you! I really need to step up my BBQ game after reading those!

@Freetodowhatiwant

I'm glad you're 'free' now Smile

Sounds like a massive relief for you. Can I be nosey? Why Spain? Very envious of you with the weather, pool and beach!

And glad to hear that you're happy in a bikini. Grin

I grew up here so have a place here and usually come for every school holiday. Because of Covid we had to cancel two trips but also because of Covid we were able to come here two weeks earlier than usual for summer as the schools were closed. It really is such a relief to be here, thanks BIWI. It's not always relaxing as I have two kids under 8 but it's really lovely to have the beach and pool and we have friends here too.

MrsKoala · 29/07/2020 10:11

Morning all. I’ve rallied a bit now after my emotional outburst on Sunday Blush had a few days of not eating well - not much food and one day I ate half an eaten cold hash brown and 6 cold horrible plain pasta twists which were the leftovers on the kids plates because I just couldn’t be bothered to eat anything else. Anyway yesterday was better and I went back to functioning like an adult and even did an hour online legs, bums and tums class and 20 mins upper body weights - which I can feel very much today. Will try for a stretch and sculpt class and Pilates later I think.

I think the smell of warm breast things is the hardest part of this @Takingontheworld. I try not to LC at Easter because toasted hot cross buns can actually drive me a little unreasonable.

@NigellaAwesome your holiday sounds gorgeous. I miss holidays too. We were meant to be camping in the isle of weight now. I know it’s not glamorous but I really enjoy it with the kids.

@BrassicaBabe I agree that cheese is always necessary. My friend and I used to refer to the really strong stuff that makes you sweat a bit that you usually eat with wine (especially good when feeling a bit low) as ‘emotional cheese’.

Going to have bacon and fried duck eggs with mushrooms, tomato and spinach for brunch today and meatballs and courgetti for dinner I think.

I’ve realised the weeks when I’ve lost most are the ones where I don’t eat much dairy and don’t have the low carb granola for breakfast. So I’m going to try to alternate dairy days and only have the granola 2-3 times a week, instead of every day and see what happens.

MrsKoala · 29/07/2020 10:15

That sounds brilliant @Freetodowhatiwant. I’m so pleased for you. Will you be setting up out there now or returning at the end of summer hols?

ealingwestmum · 29/07/2020 10:28

Just read BIWI’s BBQ suggestions to DH. Guess what we’re having this weekend. Yes, all of it Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 29/07/2020 10:37

Ha, that’s very funny ealing!

I wish I had something fabulously witty to contribute but just woke up and about to make a cup of tea.

Maybe FunShag will appear at some point on this thread but for now its been like my entertaining summer read. Wink

Freetodowhatiwant · 29/07/2020 10:40

MrsK Returning early Sept to live in a new town in the UK so our family home is being packed up and completed tomorrow! I feel bad not being there to help but it is far less emotional being at a distance.

Glad you're feeling better although having been out of the loop I am left wondering about the 'smell of warm breast things' Grin

MrsKoala · 29/07/2020 10:55

Haha. I meant bready things but my autocorrect has a filthy mind! 3.9 yo Dd would still prefer warm breast things over all other food tho and STILL seven months after weaning off the boob tries daily to feed and spends a long time with her hands up my top. Confused when will that ever stop?

Mimosa1 · 29/07/2020 11:44

300g on today for no reason I can discern aargh... a bit like you @Takingontheworld I'm dying to see a number starting with 77! I'm hoping it's TOM as I'm a bit spottier than usual.

Glad you're feeling better @MrsKoala . I'm going out for my first restaurant lunch in months today. I'm very excited :-)

SulisMinerva · 29/07/2020 12:52

Glad you are feeling better MrsK. My DD was also a breast fiend and still likes to try and put her hand down my top when she’s really tired or feeling ill. It’s definitely a comfort thing for some children.

The BBQ food all sounds delicious. I’m quite fond of mackerel on the BBQ too.

Yum! If only social distancing rules weren't in place. Am sure you would host an end of bootcamp bbq for us!

Can't check who mentioned it now I have started writing this post but 300g weight gain is just 1/2glass of water that you haven't peed out yet. I am weighing myself multiple times some days and can vary just from water in v water out as I haven't eaten anything since last time I weighed.

Weight fluctuations... they are just unfathomable. One day I weighed, went to the toilet, weighed again 1.5 lb ON Shock

L - left over homemade bahji things with smoked salmon and fried eggs
D - restaurant, but will be full of buttery, creamy stuff and little elegant dishes
