Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 9

Morning all! Nice, bright and early today because I woke up at stupid o'clock Smile

As ever, here's the spreadsheet

Just two weeks left!

Hopefully we're all in the swing of things, but if you've found things slowing or slipping a little, why not go back to strict Bootcamp for these last two weeks?

It's very easy to let the carbs slip back into the daily menu, so a focused effort on keeping them at bay might be a good plan.

@Turnedouttoes google mega colon massage. I know it sounds absurd and probably won't work alone, but it does help, a bit like rubbing a baby's tummy to make them go. Years ago, my midwife recommends eating kiwis whole with the skin on as a sort of brush to help me go and it worked. Not the most LC fruit but one should be ok to get things moving if you're having a very low carb rest of the day?

@Takingontheworld love the nail polish too! So nice and summery. Thinking of you.

Just came back on to have a mini rant. My DH is dropping weight so bloody easily and he's within a handsbreath of being lighter than I am. It's ridiculous that it should upset me as I'm happy it's working for him - but I secretly hate the idea of being heavier than he is. Aaargh!! Men!

Thanks for the cauli recommendations. I think frozen is the way to go, instead of the weirdly preserved microwave stuff.

Takingontheworld · 24/07/2020 12:23

Mimosa, i hear you!! Dh eats whatever he wants and never gains a pound. I outweigh him significantly! I refuse to tell him how much I weigh though!

ShagMeRiggins · 24/07/2020 12:54

@Takingontheworld

Look what just happened!!! I broke out of the 200s!

By a smidgen. But a smidgen all the same

It’s healed really well thanks stuntnun, but I have no feeling in it and a weird looking nail. But That’s better than having a half finger!

SuperSange · 24/07/2020 13:58

I'm just joining in a bit if that's ok? I've previously found that making too many changes at once sets me up for failure, so this week I've been doing 16:8 and it's done for me. I'm easing the booze and bread/cakes out, so will weigh again in Monday. Then I'll take it on from there. I've read som great things on these threads, so hopefully I can build week on week. Is that ok do you think?

BIWI · 24/07/2020 15:01

What's wrong with diving in for the full-on Bootcamp experience?! Grin

You're very welcome Flowers

I could do the full boot amp when I'm at work as I'll be distracted, but I'm on school holiday the moment so too much time!! I forgot I started C25k too, I'm starting week 2 tomorrow. So fasting, no processed carbs and increased exercise. That'll do for this week! Next week can be no booze, cut rice and potatoes. See how I go. 😂😂😂

Rshard Shock

venusandmars · 24/07/2020 18:32

mimosa remember though that you've got boobs and hips (I guess). My skinny dh is straight up and down from his pelvis to his collar bone - no pecs, no biceps, not really any buttocks. No wonder he weighs so little. I am altogether a more rounded form totally ignoring the running and cycling that he does and I don't However he is a great deal taller than me, so I still win on the scales.

Hopeislost · 24/07/2020 20:49

Anyone else back to the gym tomorrow? I am really excited to go back and am hoping it'll give me a bit of a boost, mentally and physically.

MrsKoala · 24/07/2020 21:56

Oh my god Rshard, that’s made me feel all funny inside. Did you have to have it sewn up?

Well done @Takingontheworld. I love blue on toes too. Try not to stress about your tests. I know that’s easier said than done - I was poorly 2 years ago and the gp thought it might be MS I had to wait 8 months for a neurology appointment to tell me I was just chronically tired Blush Fingers crossed its just some weird body fluctuations.

I don’t have the same problems with my H. He just steadily puts on weight thinking that going for a run every few days is going to allow him 5000 calories a day Hmm it’s often what happens when someone leaves the army and stops all the phys. He’s a squaddie gone to seed. Grin He won’t ever diet or change tho and he’s happy the way he is. He still seems genuinely surprised that his trousers have ‘shrunk in the wardrobe’ .

I’m not going back to the gym till the kids go back to school. Even tho I really miss it. I hate actual gym workouts and usually do 3-4 classes a week but my gym aren’t allowing pre booking classes so it means first come first in and I can’t queue for ages for an hour spin class. even if h could watch the kids for an hour he couldn’t for the queuing time too. It’s weird the way they are doing it - I thought booking would make it easier for them to limit numbers, as I think this way the street is going to have loads of people hanging around outside. Then having to go home if they don’t get in. Who has that kind of time to waste.

Hopeislost · 24/07/2020 23:01

@MrsKoala That's a really strange way of running things! My gym have set up compulsory booking for gym visits or classes. No showing up allowed at all to keep numbers down.

MrsKoala · 24/07/2020 23:09

I know! I’m so pissed off about it. It’s PureGym and usually in normal times you can book a class 2 weeks in advance, but now they’ve decided that it’ll just turn up. Surely that’s the opposite way round Confused I can’t get my head round the logic. It means I won’t be able to go and I feel annoyed because I chose to continue paying the fees to support them rather than suspend the membership and now it’s open I can’t even go anyway. Angry

Mimosa1 · 25/07/2020 07:04

After my rant yesterday, I woke up to a 500g woosh overnight! Just goes to show Grin

I'm not a gym goer but I'm starting c25k again.

We've got a socially packed weekend starting. All outside / picnic-y stuff with people bringing their own food which means DH and I can control what we bring. We're off to M&S food later this morning. I'm excited to try the rollitos and will probably pick up a rotisserie chicken and some salad and berries.

All the best to you all

Rshard · 25/07/2020 07:59

I’ve booked a couple of classes for next week hopeislost. Dh has made a gym in the garage during lockdown so I’m going to carry on using that. Will change my gym membership to classes only. That system at your gym sounds bonkers mrsk, who is going to do that??

I didn’t have it down up mrsk, as I’d lost flesh and they said sewing it would have left me with worse scars. I had two cuts and also two breaks in the tip of my finger. Had 5 months of physio on it! I’d post a pic but it’s a bit gruesome!

Rshard · 25/07/2020 07:59

*sewn not done ffs

Laska2Meryls · 25/07/2020 08:07

Scales have been kind this morning hopefully they will still be on Monday for WI
Wink

StuntNun · 25/07/2020 10:38

Has anyone used powdered gelatine to thicken sauces? I'd never heard of it before but I saw it in this recipe today: https://www.wholesomeyum.com/instant-pot-beef-short-ribs-recipe/

8Track · 25/07/2020 10:38

Bombay Celeriac

Peel and chop a celeriac into chunks.
Boil until tender - not so squishy they fall apart. Mine took 15 mins.
In a wok heat up some oil then fry the spices. When your mouth waters at the smell they are good to go!
Add a thinly sliced celery stick - I used this as didnt have a shallot - and fry until translucent.
Add a big lump of butter.
Add the celeriac and stir so it gets coated.
Turn the heat down and add a couple of chopped tomatoes and half a bag of chopped kale. Sticks lid over and stir it a few times when you remember. I left it for a glass of wine and batter with DP about 20 mins on a low heat, but it would have been fine with just 5 mins I think.
Ready to eat!

The spice mix I used was from an old present and was www.spicebox.co.uk/curry-mixes/bombay-potato.html
It would be easy to make your own though, the ingredients are on the site.

Love the enthusiasm for the celeriac!! It needed a bit of salt to taste best, to counteract the inherent sweetness. Was even better for breakfast the next day!

Takingontheworld · 25/07/2020 12:54

Thanks MrsKoala- chronically tired is probably my main issue tbh! I have bad genes on the arthtris front too.

Down another lb on the scales so touch wood, it seems I'm back in losing mode. Can't wait to see 13st something on the scales! I haven't been 13st 7 since i was married 7 years ago. Thats 9lbs away which doesn't seem insurmountable now. I'm definitely not looking any different on the outside yet despite being 1st 11 down now.. i think its gonna take another 1.5 to become really noticeable. I really can't wait for someone to really notice! So shallow Blush i feel a bit like i can see it on the scales and feel it in myself, but until it's publically noticeable i start to wonder if its all in my head!

8Track · 25/07/2020 14:15

Wowzers, well done on the loss @Takingontheworld!

In other news.....I went for an outdoor swim today. It was BLOODY LOVELY.

Mimosa1 · 25/07/2020 18:14

Wow @8Track where did you go? Was it a pool or wild swimming? I'm dying for a dip
In the sea...

@Takingontheworld congrats on the loss!

Had a wonderful meal with a friend today. Salmon and salad (with edamame beans so not perfect) and strawberries but swerved the chocolate cake and the couscous so overall rather good.

Take care all.

8Track · 25/07/2020 18:35

An outdoor pool - local leisure centre had a 3 month deal on membership, so I have joined (probably just for the pool!). I am going again tomorrow, it was bliss! 5 of us in an outdoor pool at most, 2 most of the time. Wonderful. I ache now though!!

Had mozzarella ball, amazingly spicy watercress and smoked salmon for breakfast.
Celery and dips for lunch.
Cherries (picked yesterday!)
Dinner - no idea, we're debating now!!

FizzyPink · 25/07/2020 19:23

Ooohh an outdoor pool sounds perfect right now! My gym membership was being paid for by work and then stopped when we all started to wfh and I probably won’t be going back for a while. I really only enjoy body pump and I did sign up for les mills on demand but it’s just not the same without the proper weight and they’re all so expensive!

Saying that we’re probably going to have to cancel our trip to Palma in a couple of weeks with tonight’s news so maybe I can afford to splash out on them after all. So gutted we won’t be able to go after I spent all of last week planning each and every meal Blush

Takingontheworld · 25/07/2020 19:49

Turned I've missed the news... why no palma?
