Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 9

Morning all! Nice, bright and early today because I woke up at stupid o'clock Smile

As ever, here's the spreadsheet

Just two weeks left!

Hopefully we're all in the swing of things, but if you've found things slowing or slipping a little, why not go back to strict Bootcamp for these last two weeks?

It's very easy to let the carbs slip back into the daily menu, so a focused effort on keeping them at bay might be a good plan.

We’ve got Malta booked for last week in October. But once you get into November the weather can be unpredictable (just like the Canaries - been to Lanzerote in Dec and got sunburnt and the following year in November and it was chilly and rainy and we wore our travel outfits every evening and the bars were giving out blankets!).

I’m not sure whether we’ll still go to Malta tho as it’s an AI hotel and I can’t see how it will be enjoyable with social distancing. We were thinking of changing to a villa but the kids will be bored and I’ll have to shop and cook and that’s no fun really.

Anyway, I’m curating my denim and am pleased to say I’m back into 2 pairs of old size 10 jeans. But they are quite short on the leg and bootcut/flares so I’m not sure if I’d wear them again. Also realised my arse and upper arms are really suffering with no gym visits. Flat bum and bingo wings, not a good look!

@ShagMeRiggins - I'm using Cactus. I actually started in autumn last year with face to face lessons, and have kept the same tutor and lots of the group who continued in January! They have been really good at switching to Zoom and the tutor getting up to speed with how to teach online. I always book the next block of classes when they do the 25% off deal as well!

Looking FAB @MrsKoala - well done on the jeans!

BrassicaBabe · 22/07/2020 13:08

Looking good in those jeans MrsK! I've found myself looking at flares as a change when buying new jeans.

Made a "keto chocolate mug cake" last night. I normally can't be arsed with LC breads etc. But the kids had made bloody shortbread and I was struggling to resist. So this helped me serve that. Not my favourite but did the job.

I've made a massive frittata for dinner. Crazy days of working 9-5 then running out the door on self employed shizzle. So dinner prep for me and the family is hard work. (Feck, life is hard work at the moment!) It'll nuke easy enough and I managed to use up a chunk of our egg backlog. Winning!

ShagMeRiggins · 22/07/2020 14:07

Thanks, 8Track, I’ll look into that. I had tried to find a language tutor last Autumn but the ones I wanted weren’t available and then life got in the way. Online sounds incredibly ideal for my lifestyle.

MrsKoala what’s wrong with bootcut? It’s absolutely happening right now—skinnies have finally taken a backseat, plus bootcut is far more flattering to most figures.

You look absolutely fantastic, no matter what you say about your bottom or alleged wings. Hmm

ealingwestmum · 22/07/2020 14:34

😎😎 MrsK!

MrsKoala · 22/07/2020 14:39

I know bootcut and flares are back in and they are easier on my enormacalves, but I struggle with footwear to go with them. If I wear flats I feel like one of the scooby gang and if I wear heels it’s all a bit noughties Victoria Beckham.

Looking at those pics has inspired me to do some squats and arm toning. That’s the problem with being a she hulk, there is nowhere soft to balance me out so the wobbly untoned bits look out of place. If I was softer all over It’d blend in.

I’ve promised myself when dd starts school I’m going to do online Spanish. I’m not a natural when it comes to languages and have been a bit scared since my disastrous German gcse

Rshard · 22/07/2020 14:53

Love the breadth of conversations on here lately!

Really interested in languages, helping dd with her French has been the best bit of home schooling. I’ll take that over GCSE PE any day!

Hope you find somewhere that fits your trip wish list taking.

Takingontheworld · 22/07/2020 15:14

Maybe we fly long haul, then pay for the inlaws to come join us bringing the kids for another week?

I dunno... need to give this more thought!

Mimosa1 · 22/07/2020 17:38

You look terrific @MrsKoala . I particularly like the colour of the first pair and it must have been very satisfying to for back into them. I have an old pair of jeans gathering dust in my cupboard for just such a day!

@Takingontheworld what about Israel? I've never been but always been curious to visit and I think should still be warm but fairly short haul still.

Bad day for me with LC snacks - too many nuts, LC "granola" and raspberries. Better then it could have been but not great.

Takingontheworld · 22/07/2020 18:09

Israel hey? I'll Google!

I've had a big tuna and manchego salad, a cheesestring, half a punnet of raspberries 😳 was really craving fresh fruit...
And then because i haven't managed to foodshop i had another big salad with salmon topped with pesto and seeds.

Not enough water, too much gardening. Ouch!

Rshard · 22/07/2020 18:15

You do look fabulous mrsk! Sorry I was so caught in the travel/language chat I missed your pics before.

Israel is a very interesting place taking, lots and lots of culture but also resort type experience can be had in Eilat or Tel Aviv. And the security at Israeli airports is something to experience. My name is Hebrew in origin and I was questioned at length!

BrassicaBabe · 22/07/2020 19:08

I went to Israel in the 90s Stunt. My dad is Irish. Can't remember how it came up with security. Ah, think it's because his initials were on the suitcase. But I also spent a lot of time talking to security!! The most stringent airport security in the world.

MrsKoala · 22/07/2020 20:02

@Takingontheworld I’m also a winter baby so my birthday treats are usually city breaks. But next year I’m celebrating my 40th - 4 years late as when I was 40 I’d just had dd and a c section and had a just 4 and just 2 year old (there are good reasons people have kids in their 20s Grin. So I’ve decided that now the kids will be 8,6,4 I’m going on a cruise to see the northern lights on my birthday- probably blissfully alone.

BIWI · 22/07/2020 20:03

Firstly @Takingontheworld you need to stop feeling guilty about having time for yourselves!

If you can get your inlaws to look after your kids, then surely that's a positive solution? (I'm assuming they get on with your kids/your kids like their grandparents being around?)

That time of year - look at the Caribbean. It's a 9 hour flight, but if you choose your airline wisely (Virgin all the way for me!) it makes the flight part of the holiday. Plus, on the way back, it's overnight, so you sort of save a day.

The weather in the Caribbean at that time of the year will be lovely. The hurricane season ends around end of October/early November. But even in October we've had mostly great weather. And even if it rains, the temperature is always in the high 20s!

Rshard · 22/07/2020 20:14

Ooh the Caribbean! Lovely and warm to swim in.

Yesss... enjoy that!!!! I wanted to book same cruise but DH wasn't keen 🙄

We're doing finnish lapland for xmas (or atleast... for now we think it's still happening!)

I think I'd go for longer/long haul if i left dh at home and went with a girlfriend 😂 so maybe thats the solution...

I do really fancy barbados.

I know biwi, I mean one holiday in a decade of parenting won't traumatise them for life? remembering how pissed i was DM left me behind for her Australia trip when i was similar age

I just really wanna take my soonish to be skinny body to a adults only luxurious all inc. Probably never do again until we're retired/kids have properly left us type hols...

Takingontheworld · 22/07/2020 20:24

Out of interest... do these threads ever spin off into facebook groups? I really like you guys!

But I'm equally aware I'm making myself more and more identifiable the more I share and im 100% sure atleast one of my SIL is a mnetter.

I also keep almost accidentally signing off with my own name! 🤦‍♀️

BIWI · 22/07/2020 21:14

@Takingontheworld

I worked for myself for many years, but a combination of circumstances meant I went back to being 'gainfully employed'. One of the (many) things about that that I really didn't enjoy was having limited holiday/having to ask for holiday! Anyway, after a year or so of working very, very full time I was definitely in need of a holiday. DH was, by then, working in a contract role where he couldn't (easily) take any time off.

I was desperate for a break by then, so decided I'd go to Barbados. It's a hotel we'd been to several times previously as a family - AI, great location, etc. But I found it really difficult to commit to it, because it was spending money just on me!

I can honestly tell you it was worth every penny.

Do it. Go for it.

Barbados is truly wonderful. If you're looking for hotel recommendations, I can recommend Turtle Beach, on the South coast.

Hello all, just checking in. Haven't been on the threads for the last week or so, but catching up. Will weigh tomorrow.

Laska2Meryls · 23/07/2020 05:56

Interesting holiday talk.. I have recently left work and finally after years of planning, choosing and saving finally bought the much longed for campervan just 2 weeks before lockdown .. Brilliant timing , eh?🙄. Plan was to take it to Denmark for family wedding in May ( which was cancelled) and then maybe onto Sweden.. Aldo to Spain Portugal in early Autumn.. At the moment she is sitting looking fab and shiny in the drive...while we wait and see how things pan out .. .Ah well maybe Northumberland in a few weeks instead. ...
But Bootcamp.. . Am Koko and back to hardcore for the last 2 weeks.. It looks like working and that I am possibly a smidge down again this morning. Also excited today as first visit to hairdresser in 4 months !

A few years ago I suggested a FB group/page, but there was quite a bit of resistance, because not everyone has FB. It also feels a bit disloyal to MNHQ, IYSWIM!

That's not to say that I haven't ended up with various Bootcamp people on my FB, just like I have with other MNetters - but it's happened organically rather than in any kind of planned way.

Some great results, well done everyone, and MrsK you look fabulous, I can only dream of a figure like your's.

I am finding my motivation slipping a little, not helped by a family emergency (elderly parent) involving ambulance, A & E & a 24 hour hospital stay (all well now) ... during the 'crisis' I stuck faithfully to low carb eating, in fact I wasn't that hungry at all, but when I got back to my own home I just sort of went into comfort eating & wine drinking mode .. it was as if adrenaline kept me going at the time. Back on track this morning.

Good luck to all for KOKO.

ealingwestmum · 23/07/2020 10:50

Flowers Ragwort. Stressful times result in needing the things that make us feel better, and that’s what the comfort food did. It’s job.

MrsKoala · 23/07/2020 11:27

Sorry to hear of your stressful time @Ragwort comfort eating is understandable when the initial adrenaline has gone. Hope everyone is okay now?

venusandmars · 23/07/2020 12:44

laska ditto on the campervan. We got it the end of last year with the idea of lots of local trips this year and then a couple of months away next year in May / June. However all my work from this year had been rearranged for next year, so that puts paid to those plans. In April we resorted to having a picnic in the campervan in the driveway, just so we could use it!

Having said that, dh and I have spent 4 months both wfh, in the same space constantly (albeit the space of a large house) so I'm not sure we want to be cooped up in a campervan together for a while. Dh has in fact gone to the hills for a few days leaving me to enjoy the splendid peace at home Grin

And I'm eating my favourite foods...
Brunch was creamy scrambled eggs with smoked salmon
D - langoustines with garlic butter and a heap of salad

Local prawn boat is now going out regularly and selling direct to the public so I have langoustines at least once a week - happy, happy days not so happy for the boat owners who have lost most of their international markets
