Final Week of Low Carb Bootcamp ... or is it?!

BIWI · 22/06/2020 06:53

Morning all!

Spreadsheet is here

This was, initially, supposed to be the last week of a 'short, sharp shock' Bootcamp. However, I know that many of us have really got the bit between our teeth and it seems too soon to stop!

The very lovely Guardian of the Spreadsheet @AthelstaneTheUnready already took the precaution of adding a few extra weeks to the spreadsheet, so at the moment we're all set to go up until w/c 20 July.

If, though, you only signed up for 5 weeks and feel like you're being lured into a false promise, obviously you can still have this as your final week Grin

Whatever you decide - welcome to week 5.

Hopefully the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 will have passed, and the scales will start to move again.

Remember to KOKO - put down all those slices of cake and cheesecake - and stay focused on cutting the carbs. Don't forget to keep your fat intake high, and keep an eye on the things we've introduced in Bootcamp Light.

Good luck Flowers

Congratulations Random! Nice work. And lots of love to you MrsKoala Flowers

Really wish I lived close to a beach so at least I could go for a dunk in the sea. Roasting here. Last summer I was lolling by the local pool feeling like I was on holiday Sad. Still, at least I may be somewhat closer to wanting to put on a bikini by the time pools open again Grin

Freetodowhatiwant · 26/06/2020 08:07

Morning all. I have had a loss every day this week on the scale. I might be blowing that tonight with a bit of wine but hopefully it will still be a loss.

Does our fat and shape change as we get older? I’m down to 9 stone and 8 something and I remember being 9 and a half stone and feeling pretty slim. At the moment I feel like I’m getting slimmer but when I sit down I still have these rolls. And when I see photos of myself I feel more podgy.

devoncreamtea · 26/06/2020 08:11

Morning campers!
It was so hot yesterday! I must have drunk about 20 pints of water!!!
Hoping it’s cooler today as I have a day off and need to clean my vile house...
Struggled with food yesterday as too hot and didn’t really feel hungry. 158 on scales this morning. Nice to see movement again and hoping it sticks for Monday.
B scrambled eggs avo mushrooms
L ?!
D steak salad flgv

Will have wine this weekend but will choose either fri or sat to indulge not both.
Someone said my face looked thinner !!! 😊

devoncreamtea · 26/06/2020 08:16

@Freetodowhatiwant I know what you mean! I’m not at a goal weight yet but I do think my body shape has changed over the years - definitely more shapely but with softer edges...!!!! I’m not convinced the softer edges will go completely as I lose - especially the tummy. Maybe that requires serious core exercise 😬😳

NigellaAwesome · 26/06/2020 08:31

Morning all,

🌷MrsKoala

Well done to everyone with their achievements, scales or exams.

I'm not sure what is going on, I saw 88.4kg last Tuesday, which stayed there all week, then rose to 88.6, now 89 for the last couple of days. I really can't think why. Other than 2 days with a portion of weighed nuts and the very rare strawberry, I have been super strict. So after losing a stone (delighted) now 11 days of STS or seeing a slight rise. Still in ketosis.

Possible reasons are:
Constipation. Have had some modest movement, but not much.
Water retention due to heat.
Steroids: I got my knee injected last Tuesday, so I wonder if some steroid is in my system? Knee is still sore.
Being too strict for too long? I have been tracking on MFP throughout, and I know we don't track calories and macros, and that doesn't drive what I eat, but I have been under 1000 calories a day and 8% (17g) carbs a day consistently.
Water: I do struggle to have enough, but consciously try.
Cream: the only dairy I have is cream twice a day in coffee, and rarely, some cheese. Perhaps I need to knock it on the head? I had thought it was about 10mls per cup, but I measured it out and it is closer to 20mls. I only had one yesterday.
Stuntnun's magic wobbly water fat that precedes a whoosh

prettybird · 26/06/2020 08:45

Nigella - I suspect it will be water retention. In this heat, the water target will be even higher than the ones on the Spreadsheet. And because of sweating, it will be even more important to maintain electrolyte levels.

Burnshersmurfs · 26/06/2020 08:47

Congratulations, Random!

bluelefant · 26/06/2020 08:53

Same problem @NigellaAwesome Confused
I understand different reasons but it's a bit demotivating as I am now up nearly 2lbs from my lowest which I only achieved last week Sad

Freetodowhatiwant · 26/06/2020 08:53

Nigella, could you be eating too few calories for this WOE? I was eating a bit less than I should (not counting calories but just not filling up as much as I could - such as one egg with veg for lunch when I could have two) and BIWI semi waved the big stick at me asking why because this woe is ‘not about deprivation’. 1000 calories a day is really low for me. That said you’ve already lost a stone which is amazing!! It might just be a bit of a plateau. My non expert advice would be to forget about the calories and stick to the woe for a week or so and see what happens.

Glad you can relate Devon. I also feel that my hips and thighs are wider than they used to be. I have had two children but both were by CS. And definitely more rolls of fat around the stomach.

NigellaAwesome · 26/06/2020 09:01

@Freetodowhatiwant it could be, but I really don't feel deprived at all. I'm not deliberately restricting calories or portion sizes, that's just what I eat. I'll double down on the water for a few days to see if that helps. Reduce my creamy coffee to one a day. I might have a coconut oil one this morning.

LostaraYil · 26/06/2020 09:27

Well done on your exam, Random! And well done on daily losses, Free, it's making me think I should weigh every day instead of weekly.
My body shape has also got a lot softer, with the beginnings of 'middle-aged spread' so my waist is not as defined as it was. I used to think I had long legs, but they definitely look shorter because my butt is lower down. I'm trying to work out and lift heavier weights but any results are coming very slowly... I might have to accept that I'm not in my 20s anymore Grin. But I did manage two chin-ups this morning, chin over the bar and everything which I feel is a huge achievement!

Freetodowhatiwant · 26/06/2020 09:42

Wow two chin ups is pretty fabulous @Lostara ! Women often don’t have the upper body strength. I love doing heavy weights and miss the gym. Do you have all the equipment at home? I have some but have no inspiration for home exercise at the moment. If I get to spain in a couple of weeks I will hit the gym there. I miss my leg press and I think my thighs and bum do too! I definitely feel happier weighing myself every day. If I have gone higher I will raise my game the next day and if I’ve gone down feel good and KOKO.

That would be just my thoughts on it, nigella, that you’re maybe not eating enough. But BIWI and others would advise better. Remember you have done amazingly so far too, losing a stone is a great achievement.

devoncreamtea · 26/06/2020 09:44

Wow Lostara! That’s very impressive !! I’d be more likely to pull it down...🤣
@MrsKoala I meant to say that I am so sorry to hear about your lovely friend. Flowers

Kids asking to bake...! Gah! I always thought I would love cooking with my kids but....turns out I’m like an evil Nigella instead of a benevolent Jamie in the kitchen 😬

Eggbound · 26/06/2020 10:05

So sorry about your friend, @MrsKoala. Flowers

Have been back to work after furlough this week and it's been full-on - not been on here so much but just had a quick catch-up. Some amazing losses!

I lost 6lb in my week 1 (last week), and this week have stayed the same since Monday. Sad Two key differences: in week 1, I was doing the 1,000-calories-a-day thing, whereas this week I've not counted (overeating?); and I'm due on in about four days.

After such a great start, I'm hoping for a loss again soon - it would be such a boost to get into the 11s (not been there for about 18 months). I wonder if I need to go back to the 1,000 calories/day.

Can someone link me to a bootcamp glossary, please, if there is one? I've worked out quite a few of the abbreviations, but some are still flooring me (NSV? FLVG?). Thank you.

Laska2Meryls · 26/06/2020 10:21

Hmm my Wednesday whoosh disappeared! 😪. Probably dehydration .. Ah well.. but I know that I still am on the way down .. I can get into some of my smaller shorts now[ smile]

NoraEphronsneck · 26/06/2020 10:25

Laska2Meryls

NSV means Non Scales Victory - ie a pair of jeans fitting better even - so not focussing on what the scales say but other changes you feel or see in yourself.

FLGV - Fuck load of green veg - what we should all be eating every day - can't have too much.

Laska2Meryls · 26/06/2020 10:25

eggbound. ( Do hope that you are not)
FLGV is 'fuck load of green vegetables)
NSV is non-scale victory .. like mine above, weight hasnt changed but you can get into smaller stuff anyway, or you suddenly see your double chin or something else has gone down, or someone says ' you look fab have you lost weight ? " Etc

NoraEphronsneck · 26/06/2020 10:26

Oh sorry that was meant for Eggbound Blush

Laska2Meryls · 26/06/2020 10:27

Cross post, Nora ! But it was eggbound not me
..

Laska2Meryls · 26/06/2020 10:27

😂😂😂😂and again! hi Nora !!

Takingontheworld · 26/06/2020 10:35

mrskoala Flowers I'm very sorry.

Scales are another 1lb down... 3.5lbs in 3 days? Seems crazy so i won't hold my breath but am hopeful that the scales are finally on the move again! And BIWI.... I've not logged on MFP in a week. Are you proud!?

Eggbound · 26/06/2020 10:50

Thanks @NoraEphronsneck and @Laska2Meryls - now I get it!

Well, I shall be having a FLGV tonight (kale), and I can report a NSV which is that with this WOE, I'm not remotely (TMI alert) farty. Something was obviously regularly disagreeing with me before because I have (had?) a bit of a reputation within the family. Blush Wheat? Pulses (definite post-beans reaction)? Carbs generally?! Fuck knows. But I'm very happy this is no longer an issue.

I also don't feel bloated.

And, in this full-on week back at work, I've had pretty consistent energy and focus, which has been a huge help (and is not normally the case ...).

Also pleased to report that while I am @Eggbound, I am not eggbound - but most definitely bound for eggs (omelette for lunch). Smile

Laska2Meryls · 26/06/2020 11:00

eggbound that is definitely a NSV !

MrsKoala · 26/06/2020 11:43

Thank you everyone. I feel a bit silly posting about it as I know we all have grief in our lives and have to get on with it. This is my first time grieving for someone so close and I think I’m a bit shit at it. I just don’t think about it, till I do, and then it seems overwhelming.

Anyway, feeling so bloated today. I have drank so much water Over the last 48 hours, I even had to get up in the night for a wee, which is virtually unheard of for me - even when carrying my baby elephants. I weighed this morning and have put on 2lb. I’m not too bothered as it’s totm any time now and I’m still (just) in the 11s and as I said on previous threads I don’t stay here for long. My waist is now 28, bust and hips are 40. Which is where I’m happy. I will now start paying less attention to the scales and more to how I look and feel.

Have good day everyone - stay cool. :)

Rshard · 26/06/2020 11:46

Well done on passing that exam random!

Two chin-ups lostara, I am in awe!

Love that NSV eggbound. I also have one, some knickers that we’re not coping with the size of my tummy 5 weeks ago, now are with ease! Not slipping down.
