Final Week of Low Carb Bootcamp ... or is it?!

BIWI · 22/06/2020 06:53

Morning all!

Spreadsheet is here

This was, initially, supposed to be the last week of a 'short, sharp shock' Bootcamp. However, I know that many of us have really got the bit between our teeth and it seems too soon to stop!

The very lovely Guardian of the Spreadsheet @AthelstaneTheUnready already took the precaution of adding a few extra weeks to the spreadsheet, so at the moment we're all set to go up until w/c 20 July.

If, though, you only signed up for 5 weeks and feel like you're being lured into a false promise, obviously you can still have this as your final week Grin

Whatever you decide - welcome to week 5.

Hopefully the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 will have passed, and the scales will start to move again.

Remember to KOKO - put down all those slices of cake and cheesecake - and stay focused on cutting the carbs. Don't forget to keep your fat intake high, and keep an eye on the things we've introduced in Bootcamp Light.

Good luck Flowers

Some pork scratchings for crunch.

Peanut butter for the celery sticks.

Eggbound · 22/06/2020 09:35

Thanks so much @BIWI and @Athelstane for extending this bootcamp. I only started a week ago, so now I can have a good five weeks at it with support on here. Smile

So the weight has been falling of in week 1 for me - I'm quite shocked. 6lb down as of this morning. Shock I know it's mostly water, but according to my supposedly clever scales, there is fat loss in there too.

I'm now just 1.8lb off the 11s, which I haven't been in since ... February last year!

DP has, to my absolute amazement, embraced this WOE. He has a bit more to lose than me - maybe 3st - and is a carb monster (bread, beer, jam ...). I played him a few videos on YouTube to explain this WOE and he has run with it. It's so nice to be doing this with someone at home. He has lost 3.5kg since Tuesday. He's struggled more with cravings and hunger than me though; I haven't had either (yet).

Speaking of the snazzy scales, apparently I am losing a little muscle mass too. Fitting in exercise is a real challenge around work and kids. Any doable, super-efficient suggestions for preventing this? HIIT? Long exercise sessions aren't an option.

One more question: AF is due in 1.5 weeks and, ordinarily, for the week beforehand, I am consumed with the munchies. Maybe it won't happen the same this time, but I'd love some tips in advance for handling any late-night toastie urges so I don't derail.

Thanks for the support and advice, and well done all with progress. Flowers

Ninkanink · 22/06/2020 09:36

If you have a good cooler/icebox you could take some liver pâté or some fish mousse. Cucumber rounds make good crunchy vehicles to spread it onto.

Eggbound · 22/06/2020 09:38

Oh, and I had an unexpected foodgasm last night over a creamy, garlicky, cheesy mushroom sauce I knocked up for my pile of broccoli and chicken. It's awesome to be discovering new tastiness along the way.

Ninkanink · 22/06/2020 09:39

It’s my week three weigh-in today. Cumulative loss is 2.9kg (6.393lbs) in three weeks which I’m very happy with. Bootcamp/bootcamp lite will be my continuous woe from now on for health reasons so I’m in it for the very long haul and any weight loss is secondary to health benefits.

KOKO and have a great day everyone! 🌼🌺🌸

BIWI · 22/06/2020 09:40

@Eggbound - I'm not really sure I believe your scales!

Your initial weight loss (well done!) will be mostly water and then glycogen - the carbs/glucose stored in your liver and muscles, and a small amount of fat.

If you're low carbing, you're 'persuading' your body to burn fat. It won't be muscle.

BIWI · 22/06/2020 09:41

Also @Eggbound - if your husband is struggling with hunger, he needs to eat more fat and drink more water.

Did someone say the not eating enough thing is balls when you’re doing LCHF? Only that because I’m doing 16:8 and I’ve lost my appetite in the back of my mind I have that nagging ‘you’ll slow your metabolism/go into starvation mode’ old chestnut. This isn’t actually true is it? I am sticking to the WOE.

Ninkanink · 22/06/2020 09:54

It’s not true. You’re basically running all your body’s energy needs off your fat! Woohoo!!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 22/06/2020 09:58

Ugh. Birthday wine turned into two days, with three day toxic sluggishness to follow and the mother of all headaches this morning. From one bottle! Three days ago!

I am NOT doing that again in a hurry.

Not weighed today as previously decided to ignore the consequences for one week, but jeans don't feel any tighter so hopefully not going to be too bad.

bluelefant · 22/06/2020 10:01

Yay!for BC extension 😊
I feel I can make a really good progress this time and the thread is so supportive.
3lbs lost this week which I am extremely happy with after 2 week stall.
My DH is also doing it with me and he lost a whooping 28lbs so far. He's got a lot more to lose though and BMI currently 37...
Yesterday and today I recorded the lowest weight since as long as I don't really remember 🤔 Must be at least 13-15 years

Freetodowhatiwant · 22/06/2020 10:03

Thanks @Ninkanink! That’s what I want to hear! 😂

Forgive yourself for some bday wine Athel sounds like it was fun. Although the rubbish feeling afterwards is no fun of course. That’s the annoying thing about breaking an abstinence, feeling like a lightweight! For me anyway as I DO want to continue having wine every now and then and not having to feel rubbish afterwards or get too drunk and make an arse out of myself

Freetodowhatiwant · 22/06/2020 10:04

Damn, it’s been ages since I tried a strike through. Mind you the underline is probably more appropriate

CalendulaAndRoses · 22/06/2020 10:10

hello everyone - great to hear of the losses and NSVs too. Delighted the BC is being extended. I didn't get to post much last week but loved catching up today and definitely makes it easier to KOKO knowing you lot are all out there doing the same. So Flowers to everyone and especially @BIWI and @Athelstane

I like the sound of the cheesecake and leek and celeriac mash from last thread so will def be trying those

Last week was a good one for me, managed to stay on BC ordinary, apart from two small glasses of red wine Friday and Sunday evening. Managing NOT to polish off the entire bottle was a definite NSV for me on Friday evening. I noticed how much I savoured those two glasses, really paying attention to the taste, sweetness, mouth feel etc. All the things I often miss when I am knocking wine back. It was good. But I know I need to limit it as otherwise I will easily fall backwards.

On the scales this morning I was 2lb down, so nearly on the cusp of getting into a new stone bracket. Yay! I also measured today - over the entire bootcamp, nothing shifted on hips, 1 inch down on waist, and a most satisfactory 1.5 inches on thighs (each thigh Grin ). Nothing shifted on boobs thank god as they are already fairly puny (I'm a real pear)

Me and my teenage daughter bought the same trackie bottoms on Friday, same size too. She is three inches taller than me and a lovely shape (athletic and toned mixed with hourglass), she is bringing hers back as she says they are too tight on her thighs, she did a double take when she saw mine on me, quite loose in that area. She said they looked much better on me Shock Grin

CalendulaAndRoses · 22/06/2020 10:12

missed your post about the 3 day hangover @AthelstaneTheUnready hope you feel better soon

Rshard · 22/06/2020 10:13

That’s a great NSV calendula!

RozHuntleysStump · 22/06/2020 10:20

First week. Did BC Light and lost 5lbs.

Will I ever go to the toilet again?! I feel like it would be a lot more if this was remedied... I've tried to eat loads of veg - mostly broccoli and salad and stuff.

Ninkanink · 22/06/2020 10:23

You need plenty of oil and butter and fats from meats. And as much water as you can possibly imagine drinking. Bigger portions of veg. The poo will come!

Linnet · 22/06/2020 10:23

Hi, I’ve lost 2lbs this week which brings me a total loss of 7lbs so far. I’m quite happy that I’ve hit the half stone mark, just need to keep going to lose the rest 🙂

I’m still doing the 16:8 and drinking loads of water, even managed to meet up with some friends last week, socially distanced of course, and had no cake! I did treat myself to a long vodka on Saturday night to celebrate hitting my 7lb loss though 😄

I haven’t lost any more inches but my jeans are looser and my belt is now in the last hole, if this continues I’ll need to get a new one.

I might try to make the cheesecake next weekend for my husbands birthday, it sounds really nice.

Laska2Meryls · 22/06/2020 10:32

@Ninkanink

Sk1nnyB1tch · 22/06/2020 10:33

Thanks for the extension I fell off the wagon in week 1 and have thinking about restarting ever since! Feel like I won't be alone now ☺️

nowlook · 22/06/2020 10:35

@Laska2Meryls
I had to go to Pembrokeshire and back (from Derbyshire) last Thursday. Might not be your cup of tea, but I made a really dense omelette with spinach, mushrooms, cheese and bacon which I cut into wedges and had cold. It was a bit like quiche.

felippertyfeck · 22/06/2020 10:35

Thank you BIWI and Athelstane. Great news we are continuing. 1.8 down, I'm on the move again thank goodness. Gutted about the Lidl yoghurt. I liked brand and the pot with the handle! The last 100g consumed this morning, will now have to taste test some more. Good luck with week 5 everyone.

nowlook · 22/06/2020 10:59

@Laska2Meryls
Sorry, posted too soon. I'm quite used to low-carb on the road (albeit in normal times). Things that work for me are:

  • Mini Babybels or sticks of cheddar;
-Celery; -Mini cucumbers; -Thermos of beef consomme; -Whole cooked baby leeks, coated in full fat cream cheese, with prosciutto wrapped round them; -Chicken kebabs; -Sugar free jelly pots; -Bag of spinach; -Hard-boiled eggs.

You might need to ease up on the water on Wednesday. There were huge queues at the loos in service stations last week!
