Final Week of Low Carb Bootcamp ... or is it?!

BIWI · 22/06/2020 06:53

Morning all!

Spreadsheet is here

This was, initially, supposed to be the last week of a 'short, sharp shock' Bootcamp. However, I know that many of us have really got the bit between our teeth and it seems too soon to stop!

The very lovely Guardian of the Spreadsheet @AthelstaneTheUnready already took the precaution of adding a few extra weeks to the spreadsheet, so at the moment we're all set to go up until w/c 20 July.

If, though, you only signed up for 5 weeks and feel like you're being lured into a false promise, obviously you can still have this as your final week Grin

Whatever you decide - welcome to week 5.

Hopefully the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 will have passed, and the scales will start to move again.

Remember to KOKO - put down all those slices of cake and cheesecake - and stay focused on cutting the carbs. Don't forget to keep your fat intake high, and keep an eye on the things we've introduced in Bootcamp Light.

Good luck Flowers

That looks good BIWI. I did a chorizo and courgetti affair last night with garlic and creme fraiche. Very good and very easy.

Cookathon today, so next week's meals pretty much sorted. Coleslaw with homemade mayo, coriander & lime dressing, greek salad, bolognaise & aubergine affair, and tonight's dinner was Moroccan chicken with fennel.

Also sold our DC's bike trailer today which made me Sad as it reminded me of when they were little and tucked in their together fighting. Now they are teenagers who can't be turfed off devices.

I hope the shoulder is better soon @AthelstaneTheUnready. They suck.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/06/2020 20:32
@venusandmars Yep, the food was pretty dire! And the only drink I was given was a tiny cup of orange juice with each meal (which I left!) I asked for water and was given a v small cup. Also not allowed visitors or to walk around due to Coronavirus.
When I had just had DD, and everyone was buying flowers and baby clothes, my wonderful late MIL came in with a case of bottles of sparkling water. I bloody loved that woman.

Went to a local hippy place and got keto bread, granola (chopped up nuts!) and pecan squares. Delicious but the opposite of moreish (lessish?). Have a couple of bites, done. DH found them moreish (because he's not fat adapted).

MrsKoala · 27/06/2020 21:10

Oh dear hopeisnotlost, that sounds like adding insult to injury. I get irrationally angry about hospital food. When I was pregnant with ds2 I was in hospital on bed rest for almost 10 weeks. Every single day for lunch and dinner they served mashed potato, even if if was fish/cottage/shepherds pie already topped with mash or fish n chips or a roast, mash was served as THE vegetable side. Everyone was shocked when ds2 was born at 37+2 and was over 10lb! I wasn’t- he was made up of 30% mashed bloody potato Grin

Athelstane hurt shoulders are the worst. I did mine once in a fit of anger when ds1 undid his car seat on the a21 and was jumping about the car. I pulled over and turned round so fast I snapped something and couldn’t turn my head or lift my right arm for weeks. So frustrating because you forget and reflexively try to move and it’s agony. I hope the painkillers are helping.

I may try that recipe BIWI. I’m trying to find something that makes me like celeriac more. I just don’t seem to get it. Like poetry. I feel like I should like it but I just don’t. I’ve not tried it raw yet or in the remoulade which Nigel Slater does, so maybe that’ll be the gateway. Like the food version of Pam Ayres. Grin

BrassicaBabe · 27/06/2020 21:22

Sorry for injuries and hospital stays Thanks

I agree hospital food is criminally bad. I had 10 days in hospital when DTs were a little prem. The mince was brown slop. All exactly uniform brown colour, no texture. Pre LC, I ate cheese sandwiches or food bought in for the whole time.

I know exactly what I've eaten because I cooked it (chilli) but I feel horribly bloated Hmm

Takingontheworld · 28/06/2020 07:28

Am i being thick?
My scales weigh in lbs but then convert on the bluetooth app to stones.

But when i use Google st>lb converter, if I type in 14st 10, it says 197lb, but it i reverse it and put in 209 which is what it says on my scales, it says 14.9286?!

LaganBubbleCruises · 28/06/2020 07:57

209 lb is 14st 13lb the converter is using decimal point so 14.9286 is just below 15st not 14st 9lb

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/06/2020 08:19

I’m up a couple of pounds in the last couple of days. I just hit a wall, where I feel so lousy and can’t koko. Nothing to do with this woe. Just my health. Juggling home schooling, trying to feed dd and me, unable to walk the dog, up the stairs, just manage some shuffling around the house. My body screams for food and immediate sustenance because it just cannot process anything so I overeat and the wrong things. Not sure what today will bring as I’ve now got migraine vision loss. Writing this down to try to give myself focus....

Laska2Meryls · 28/06/2020 08:22

Still hovering a 1/4 under the next stone...I an being super on plan today woth the hope of seeing a proper confirm in the morning!!

4l water

Noshowofmojo · 28/06/2020 08:32

Do you allow people here that are doing the Fast 800? I'm keeping my carbs very low and having 2 meals a day. I've lost 6.5lb in 4 days and feeling wonderful. I'm currently morbidly obese so am thrilled. Anyway, just let me know if I'm in the wrong place. Thanks.

Takingontheworld · 28/06/2020 09:18

I can't work out what I weigh. Why would the scales say 209 but then upload to the app as 14.10? I'm so confused. Haven't slept in about 72 hours though

Final Week of Low Carb Bootcamp ... or is it?!
prettybird · 28/06/2020 09:42

Because one is in decimals (a base of 10) and the other has a base of 14 (pounds). So, for example 11st 7lb is also (accurately) 161lb and 11.5 stone (as in 11 and a half stone).

prettybird · 28/06/2020 09:45

209lb is 14st 13lb and also 14.929 stone. 1lb is not 0.1 of a stone.

You're more than welcome to join us - however, would you not be better off joining one of the Fast800 threads?

Bootcamp isn't a low calorie way of eating, and it's probably lower carb than the Fast800, as we don't allow things like pulses, or as much fruit.

I'm glad that what you're doing is working for you though! Flowers

Sorry to hear you ended up in hospital @Hopeislost - but if all you gained was 2lbs, I'm sure you'll soon see that disappear.

When my dad was in hospital he had a horrendous time with regards to the food. As well as being seriously ill and in a lot of pain, he was also a diabetic. Yet no account was taken of this, and he was regularly served sweet yoghurts, fruit juice and sandwiches. And the food - or at least the choices he was making - was disgusting. One day when I was visiting, he was served meat pie and mashed potatoes. It looked like a load of dog food had been dumped on his place, and I am genuinely not exaggerating that.

Not surprising, he lost a lot of weight. He went in weighing 12 stone and came home 6 months later weighing 8 stone. Angry

He never fully recovered his mobility - partly from being bed-bound for such a long time, and losing a lot of muscle strength - and when he did come home, had several falls which ultimately led to him going back to hospital. I'm convinced that losing all that weight also will have contributed to that.

I've just made 9 sourdough Scottish morning rolls (well fired, as per the Scottish West Coast tradition). Dh tells me they're very good Halo

Takingontheworld · 28/06/2020 13:21

Sourdough... mmmmmmmmmm!

Big lunch: 3 eggs, tenderstem broccoli, sunsoaked tomatoes, cheddar, 3 pepperoni slices (needed using up!) Omlette and then lots of garlic kale.

Heading to a friends this afternoon and she always puts trays of sweets out so am hoping to be as strong as I was yesterday!

1WildTeaParty · 28/06/2020 14:11

Sorry to hear about your dad BIWI. It is so strange that a place dedicated to health does not connect eating with its overall mission!

Why must it be drugs OR good food?

Cost is the reason cited but you can't help wondering how much the expense of good food would be offset by patients not needing to come back as often (or as ill).

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 28/06/2020 14:46

Feeling very excited today as my pre-weigh-in weigh-in shows that I have FINALLY gone into the next stone bracket albeit by 1/4lb so having started at 16st 1lb, I am finally (just) into the 14s.

Bloody love this WOE!

Usually by week 2 or 3 of a diet I'm fed up (or more literally, NOT 'fed' up!) and I ditch it for something else. Thanks to all the support and wisdom on here, I've pushed through the plateau and hopefully feel myself coming out the other side.

As someone with thyroid issues (and who very recently was more or less bed-bound due to a change in meds) I have so much more energy, my moods feel more stable, I am literally never hungry and I can feel where the fat has left my body.

Yes its a bit more hassle than eating as I usually do, but I still really enjoy what I eat, I can see a way ahead where I can introduce more keto recipes etc that may not be strictly bootcamp, but can allow me a more rounded diet while still hopefully reaping the benefits of this WOE.

Thank you to you all, especially BIWI and Athelstane, but really to everyone who contributes and shares on these threads. I haven't posted much, but I've read them all. FlowersBrew with cream and a Star for us all for getting this far!

nowlook · 28/06/2020 14:54

Need to give my head a massive wobble.

I'm doing really well, sticking to all the rules. Just coming to the end of week 3. Have lost about 11lbs already. Also gave up smoking 3.5 months ago.

And then, for no apparent reason, I thought I'd try on one of my (much) smaller dresses this morning and have sunk into despair.

Not quite sure what I was expecting given I'm two dress sizes bigger than when I bought it.

I don't even like the fecking dress-made me look like Alice in Wonderland's fat aunt even when I was under 9 stone.

Complete twat, aren't I?

1WildTeaParty · 28/06/2020 15:08

Well done @nowlook on the -11 lb and giving up the smoking. That shows impressive will-power and determination.

Why is it that when you start getting successes, it is so easy to fall into self-criticism and to make the losses ahead seem a bigger hurdle than they are?

The interior voice which will belittle your efforts is harder to get rid of than fat!

Don't be fooled. This is just a Doldrums mood they do pass. (I know this because I hit one of these yesterday and it has lifted today.)

You will feel better tomorrow and won't have given in today... because that is not what we do on bootcamp :)

nowlook · 28/06/2020 15:09

On a brighter note, I went through the "advanced search" facility and found the cauliflower chicken alfredo recipe that was recommended on BC about 18 months ago and that I loved. Even I can cook it and that's saying something Wink

Ifeelfat · 28/06/2020 15:12

MarkRuffalo I know exactly what you mean... I must be around the same weight as you. I’m hoping that tomorrow (post loo, before water) I too will reach the 14s... it’s SO exciting.

nowlook that is slightly twatish yes. Nearly a stone in 3 weeks, after giving up the weed, you should be bloody delighted.
Imagine if you had put it on instead!

nowlook · 28/06/2020 15:12

Thanks @1WildTeaParty

I think I'm mainly struggling with just how deluded I was about the weight creep over the past year. Still, onwards and downwards, eh?

nowlook · 28/06/2020 15:16

Grin @Ifeelfat

I reckon I'd still be convincing myself that I was a size 8...there's just so much time without the fags. Not sure what the rest of you do to pass the time all day- tell me it's not cleaning.
