Final Week of Low Carb Bootcamp ... or is it?!

BIWI · 22/06/2020 06:53

Morning all!

Spreadsheet is here

This was, initially, supposed to be the last week of a 'short, sharp shock' Bootcamp. However, I know that many of us have really got the bit between our teeth and it seems too soon to stop!

The very lovely Guardian of the Spreadsheet @AthelstaneTheUnready already took the precaution of adding a few extra weeks to the spreadsheet, so at the moment we're all set to go up until w/c 20 July.

If, though, you only signed up for 5 weeks and feel like you're being lured into a false promise, obviously you can still have this as your final week Grin

Whatever you decide - welcome to week 5.

Hopefully the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 will have passed, and the scales will start to move again.

Remember to KOKO - put down all those slices of cake and cheesecake - and stay focused on cutting the carbs. Don't forget to keep your fat intake high, and keep an eye on the things we've introduced in Bootcamp Light.

Good luck Flowers

@Rshard, hooray for nicely fitting knicks! That's great.

@MrsKoala, that's so tough about your friend. So much harder in these circumstances too, and for it to be your first close loss. I am so sorry.

You sound only a lb or two off me - I'm hovering at 12st 1.6lb and am so keen to see the 11s - it'll be such a motivator. I'm in awe of your measurements; you sound curvy and I'm much more straight down (always have been). I need to reach 10st to see a 28" waist! Hmph.

I would really like to have a little bit of 'shape' again at the end of this.

BIWI · 26/06/2020 13:19

Congratulations @Randomfatty! 80% is brilliant Flowers

@Freetodowhatiwant

Does our fat and shape change as we get older? I’m down to 9 stone and 8 something and I remember being 9 and a half stone and feeling pretty slim. At the moment I feel like I’m getting slimmer but when I sit down I still have these rolls. And when I see photos of myself I feel more podgy.

I think many things change our shape - certainly bearing children changed my body shape. But also don't forget that you're now older! (Sorry!). Probably less toned than when you were last that weight.

@NigellaAwesome it's almost certainly due to the heat and not enough water! If you're already not drinking the right amount, and then this hot weather comes along, that could explain it. The steroids might also have had an impact. Instead of trying with the water, why not actually do it?!

@bluelefant

I understand different reasons but it's a bit demotivating as I am now up nearly 2lbs from my lowest which I only achieved last week

Well, firstly you need to understand that our body weight does fluctuate naturally, so 2lbs isn't that bad in the great scheme of things! But also, it's probably to do with water - up your water and keep an eye on your electrolytes

@Eggbound

I lost 6lb in my week 1 (last week), and this week have stayed the same since Monday

Well - it's only Friday! You saw a great loss last week, so please don't be so impatient!

Two key differences: in week 1, I was doing the 1,000-calories-a-day thing, whereas this week I've not counted (overeating?); and I'm due on in about four days

If your period is due, this can have an impact - drink more water and that should help.

After such a great start, I'm hoping for a loss again soon - it would be such a boost to get into the 11s (not been there for about 18 months). I wonder if I need to go back to the 1,000 calories/day

NO, NO, NO, NO!

We don't count calories (or carbs) on Bootcamp. The only reason I introduced this for this Bootcamp was to help people focus/re-focus on what they are eating.

Be patient, follow Bootcamp rules (you are, aren't you?) and things will move for you again soon.

@Takingontheworld

Scales are another 1lb down... 3.5lbs in 3 days? Seems crazy so i won't hold my breath but am hopeful that the scales are finally on the move again! And BIWI.... I've not logged on MFP in a week. Are you proud!?

Grin

Very. Really well done.

@MrsKoala Flowers I'm sorry for your loss. But I have to pick you up on this comment:

This is my first time grieving for someone so close and I think I’m a bit shit at it. I just don’t think about it, till I do, and then it seems overwhelming

There is no right or wrong way to grieve! Don't beat yourself up about it - just let it happen. If it's the first loss as well, it can be very confusing; how should I grieve? When my mum died I was shocked by how little I seemed to 'feel' about it (after the immediate shock of her death). I actually went to a bereavement counsellor because I felt I should be feeling devastated and crying all the time - neither of which was the case. The counsellor made it clear, once we had talked it all through, that my response was entirely legitimate and she gave me permission, if you like, for it to be OK.

Thank you for your comment @BIWI. I try my best and stay positive and of course on plan with the support of my DH who is still losing consistently Grin

Back up to 11st 9.25lb - but I suspect that's because I haven't upped my water consumption to cope with the extra heat.

I've run over 5km 3 times this week Halo looking forward to resting over the weekend Wink

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/06/2020 15:01

I'm up as well. Hormones and water.

Eurgh.

BIWI · 26/06/2020 15:05

Running in this heat is no mean feat, @prettybird (at least I'm assuming it's as hot where you are?!)

I finished week 7 of the C25K yesterday, with the last of three 25 minute runs. It was really hot, but I managed to find a route in the park that was mostly through trees, so pretty shady.

Start week 8 tomorrow, with a 28 minute run, so hoping it's cooled down a bit by then!

Hi can anyone tell me how I add my weight to the spreadsheet please. I’m listed but I can’t seem to add details.

prettybird · 26/06/2020 15:09

Yesterday was particularly hot BIWI - my hair looked liked I'd run through a heavy rain shower afterwards Grin Unusually for a Scot, I was looking for the shade to run in Wink

Today wasn't so bad as it was wet (although not raining) so it was cooler. Monday was the same.

venusandmars · 26/06/2020 15:23

Just had a lovely thunderstorm here, so it's feeling very much fresher. I opened the window in my office so I can breathe in that heady scent of rain on warm earth usually more rain than warm ground in Scotland

I'm just plodding on with this woe, not seeing very much progress but KOKO anyway.
L - creamy coffee, boiled egg, avocado, big salad, olive oil, mayonnaise
D - confit duck legs with broccoli, cabbage, asparagus. I'm going to boil down the duck cooking liquor, add butter, cream, mushrooms and some truffle oil... fingers crossed for something delicious.

Takingontheworld · 26/06/2020 15:40

This is my first time grieving for someone so close and I think I’m a bit shit at it. I just don’t think about it, till I do, and then it seems overwhelming.

There is no shit way to grieve, or a good one either. Grief is unexpected and consuming and overwhelming. I'm so sorry, please don't police your emotions..let yourself beFlowers

MrsKoala · 26/06/2020 15:55

There is no shit way to grieve, or a good one either.

I see what you are saying but I think there might be healthier ways of dealing with it than forcing myself not to think of it then hearing a song which reminds me of him and sobbing for 3 hours and drinking 3 bottles of wine! Blush

BIWI so sorry that you lost your mum. I’m starting to stress about losing my parents, I just don’t know how I will cope. I’m not really a very outwardly emotional person and I don’t have any family to share it with. H lost his mum 5 years ago on the 15th and he still is grieving. In fact the last year has been very hard. Lots of anger. Also about his dad who he has lost via the back door of dementia. I’ve been urging him to go for counselling and he says he will then doesn’t.

I’m very impressed that anyone is managing any exercise in this weather, let alone running and 2 chin ups Shock I’m a bit scared to go back to the gym and see how unfit I have become. I just can’t get motivated when it’s so nice and warm.

Going to do my meal plan for next week now I think as shopping in the morning. Also my cucumber plants and raspberries are almost ready for picking :)

MrsKoala · 26/06/2020 16:03

Forgot the pics.

Also just for showing off purposes here is our new addition. He adopted us and the owners were moving and said we could buy him from them as he spent more time in our garden —killing things— than with them anyway. He is rather splendid but a prolific hunter. We’ve had to drive 2 baby birds to the local sanctuary in the last week and I’ve disposed of about 10 mouse/bird corpses. But he makes me 😊

Conversation heats meals

I don’t quite know what this means, 1Wildteaparty but I find myself agreeing with it absolutely. Grin

Would love to see a Yorkshire family and a French family having a meal together. Oh the cultural differences and similarities!

LostaraYil · 26/06/2020 16:57

I love the pictures, MrsK, your raspberries look amazing!
FreetodowhatIwant, I have a power rack thingy and a bunch of weights in the conservatory so I can do a decent range of exercises and I've been using it regularly since we got it in February. With 2 teenage boys in the house it seemed like a good investment, but I think I've used it the most overall Grin. Obviously even the 14 yo can squat a lot more than me!

Takingontheworld · 26/06/2020 17:02

Koala, admittedly 3bottles of wine probably not grand-but maybe lead the way for DH and grab some counselling too?

Your new addition is 😻😻😻😻😻

Chilli for me tonight
All I've eaten in 2 scrambled eggs and a cheesestring until now as i just wasn't hungry between the heat and water.

BIWI · 26/06/2020 17:06

Hmm, three bottles of wine is probably not the best idea @MrsKoala Grin

MrsKoala · 26/06/2020 17:26

I know. I felt utter shit for 3 days after. Totally served me right.

Got leftover coconut broth courgetti and prawns for dinner.

I also now have to work out a way to get ds1 who is 7 and now overweight to go on a secret diet without realising it, when he has a seriously self restricted diet of bread, processed meat, hula hoops, ice cream and digestives. Confused no idea where to start with that piss poor selection!

TenCornMaidens · 26/06/2020 17:36

I managed to skip snacking this afternoon. Didn't even think about it. Credit goes to the tablespoon of MCT oil in my tea at 11 am, I think, and eating enough for lunch. Hu gry for dinner now though - will be a bunless burger, courgetti and broccoli with a ton of oil, I think.

Almahart · 26/06/2020 17:43

@MrsKoala I am in a similar position with my son. He was getting a bit chubby before lockdown and now really is overweight. He needs to get back to school, move more and snack less. For now I'm doing my best to talk to him about what he chooses to eat to be healthy. It's an absolute minefield.

Is anyone else really bloated at the moment? Am wondering if it is heat related

venusandmars · 26/06/2020 18:03

@mrskoala grief is such a strange thing. I had a bit of a time of it earlier this week. It is 30 years since my childhood friend died suddenly from pericarditis at the age of 29, leaving 2 tiny children. She was living in Holland at the time and I couldn't even go to her funeral (travel seemed so much more difficult then). Somehow missing that important rite of passage has stayed with me and I still feel guilt that I should have done more to get there. I spoke with my friend's Mum this week and it reignited the grief, loss, sadness... Flowers for you MrsK

MrsKoala · 26/06/2020 20:03

I’m so sorry Venus, that is far too young to die.

Almahart how old is your son? It’s so hard when they are too young to understand and you don’t want to give them food issues. My niece has anorexia and is in and out of clinics. Im worried when he goes back to school people may comment because it really is noticeable.

I’ve just worked out all the calories in what he eats and it’s eye watering. 1200 in just his dinner everyday! Shock

BrassicaBabe · 26/06/2020 21:00

Wow you guys have been a hard bunch to catch up with this week! I've been on the back foot since Monday! Every time I nearly catchup something happens and I'm behind again!

Sorry MrsK Thanks

Day 20 no alcohol! Feck I fancied wine tonight. Arguing with myself along the lines of "what would it matter, there are no real rules that mean I can't have a drink". Then reminded myself to suck it up. It's only 30 days. The world won't end.

No loss for me this week yet. But still seeing that 9! I'll be happier when I see that 9 at night too. DTs birthday on Tuesday. Had a family bbq. Maybe some carb creep with the sausages and a Chinese rib thingy. Totally knackered this evening so we had a takeaway. I had doner meat and cheese. Probably just too many calories for any kind of loss. Hey ho.

ShagMeRiggins · 26/06/2020 21:13

Is anyone else really bloated at the moment? Am wondering if it is heat related

I’m certain it’s heat-related. Not age.

All the FlowersFlowersFlowers to everyone.

So much to say, so little time, but I have RTFT (agree with Brassica it can be hard to keep up with) and you’re all coping so well, even those of you who think you aren’t, because you’re here and posting and getting support for whatever.

You’re taking care of yourselves.

Just bumping this.
