Final Week of Low Carb Bootcamp ... or is it?!

BIWI · 22/06/2020 06:53

Morning all!

Spreadsheet is here

This was, initially, supposed to be the last week of a 'short, sharp shock' Bootcamp. However, I know that many of us have really got the bit between our teeth and it seems too soon to stop!

The very lovely Guardian of the Spreadsheet @AthelstaneTheUnready already took the precaution of adding a few extra weeks to the spreadsheet, so at the moment we're all set to go up until w/c 20 July.

If, though, you only signed up for 5 weeks and feel like you're being lured into a false promise, obviously you can still have this as your final week Grin

Whatever you decide - welcome to week 5.

Hopefully the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 will have passed, and the scales will start to move again.

Remember to KOKO - put down all those slices of cake and cheesecake - and stay focused on cutting the carbs. Don't forget to keep your fat intake high, and keep an eye on the things we've introduced in Bootcamp Light.

Good luck Flowers

Morning!

Has anyone been experiencing facial flushing? My cheeks were red and really hot last night and when I woke up this morning still much warmer than usual.

The only changes I've made have been to my diet so wondering if this is a side effect? Never experienced this before.

NeedChoos · 23/06/2020 08:17

Well that’s week 1 done for me. The water was a test - I drink gallons of tea normally no problem. Think I averaged about 2ltrs a day. Also I’ve stuck to the 1000 calories and the 60gr carbs (average was 32gr) - I’ve been googling but it suggests that the carb macro needs to be between 5 and 10% ....is that true ? Mine is 15%...😞

Ifeelfat · 23/06/2020 08:42

FreetodowhatIwant have you had a look on the diet doctor website? Loads of low carb and Keto vegetarian recipes on there.

Laska2Meryls · 23/06/2020 08:51

Morning ! The scales have edged down a lb again ! I am hoping that will stick and maybe more this week after the last two very slow weeks .
I made pinchitos morunos -Spanish pork kebabs -from the Moro cookbook last night and lit the bbq. They are really good, one of my favourite summer things.. we had them with salad , garlicky yog and cue dip, jalapeno peppers and pitta for those not on l/c

venusandmars · 23/06/2020 08:56

Meeting a friend for a picnic today. I have prawn cocktail and salad with avocado, a packet of wasabi seaweed thins, followed by rhubarb and ginger fool.

Dinner is Omlette with cheese, ham and veg.

Burnshersmurfs · 23/06/2020 09:20

Good morning! Ive fed the chickens and dogs, been for a sociallydistanced sea-swim with a friend, set my first lesson for the day, and written part of the zoom quiz I'm hosting for new uni colleagues (we start in September, but all online, so have to make a special effort to bond). I'm quite productive in the morning, but it rapidly goes downhill after that normally. I am in the energetic buzzy stage of bootcamp, though- feels good, and the scales have started to move again after a 3 week plateau. A big thanks to the gentle goddesses of bootcamp, who granted the extension request- I'll be happy to keep going until the end of term. I'm setting an eventual goal of 63, but not really expecting to be there until the end of the summer. I'd be fab to start new uni course feeling on top of my game.

Randomfatty · 23/06/2020 10:07

started my running yesterday - that was hard with the extra weight as I'm usually around 63kg. weights session today and will try and jump on the treadmill for a quick jog after - if I have any energy left!

lunch - leftover courgette fritters (very yummy but a bit messy to make as you have to squeeze all the water out of the shredded bits) with eggs, cheese, ham and salad
dinner - seabass with a load of veg

felippertyfeck · 23/06/2020 10:27

Morning all, @Virago1 interesting you should say that. I'm more hot and flush than usual, and a real burn up hot and flushed the other day has coincided with the weight coming off again. I did wonder if it has anything to do with fat burning or if it was just hormones.

Rshard · 23/06/2020 10:49

Lots of us full of energy and having constructive mornings! Mine usually wanes in the afternoon too burnshersmurfs! What uni course are you starting? I’m just starting the dissertation for my degree, online learning has been surprisingly good

Virago1 · 23/06/2020 11:54

@felippertyfeck that's really reassuring because I have lost 2lb overnight after a long stall, so I assume you're right and it's just a sign ketosis has kicked in or something.

I'll take a flushed face if it means I finally start losing again!

1WildTeaParty · 23/06/2020 13:09

@Laska2Meryls I like the look of the pork (and the aubergine) recipe. Might try that tonight. (Marinaded meat is a popular choice here.) The cook book looks good too.

We haven't got a set carb macro @NeedChoos! The introduction of carb counting in the first week was done solely with the purpose of getting people re-focused on what we're eating.

As long as you've kept under the 60g you'll be fine.

Next week, your week 2, forget all about counting calories and carbs!. As long as you follow Bootcamp rules, you'll be fine.

That said, you definitely need to drink the water and keep your fat levels high.

@TenCornMaidens

Morning! Will do spreadsheet and so on unless it would be better to start on the next round? Breakfast this morning - bacon and eggs.
Just jump on! Add your name to the bottom of the list - don't worry about trying to alphabetise it. And welcome!

@Freetodowhatiwant

Today I had 1pm buttered kale, fried egg and sour cream 3pm 4 x almonds (this is when I miss the something more refreshing) 6pm salmon filet and courgettes in butter 7pm small bowl Greek yoghurt

I posted it before but here it is again. Maybe because I don’t eat meat and didn’t have any fish today too. I don’t really fancy fish every day though. How would you tweak this? This is the first time I’ve had almonds as I just couldn’t face more veg and cheese or eggs.

So your lunch doesn't sound very substantial - I'm not surprised you're hungry in the afternoon! Why only one fried egg?

In the afternoon you really shouldn't be snacking, even if it was just four almonds! If you want something refreshing, drink some water Grin

Go and have a look at the Bootcamp recipe threads, stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic. There's a fish thread as well as a vegetarian thread, so should be lots there to inspire you.

Thanks Biwi - just had chicken salad and I'm stuffed. I chicken breast, salad leaves / spinach / cuc / a tomato and a couple of random olives that looked lonely. Olive oil with a splash of vinegar and some mayo.
Awesome

Hi @Virago1

I've never heard of this, but a quick Google tells me that you're not alone!

I can't really find a solution for it, nor a cause - although there's some suggestion that it might be niacin. Are you taking a vitamin supplement?

Are you keeping your carbs really, really low? It could be that you need to up them a little.

But generally speaking, from what I've read, it seems to be a temporary thing.

Freetodowhatiwant · 23/06/2020 16:39

Thanks @biwi. Ok so a bigger lunch then? I hate cooking so much that even the word ‘recipe’ fills me with dread. But I will make more of an effort because I am feeling a bit empty and weak again now and it will be a couple of hours before dinner.

Ninkanink · 23/06/2020 16:50

If you hate cooking then one suggestion I’d make, once you’ve found some easy and convenient meals that you don’t mind making, is to get in the habit of intentionally cooking extra so that you have enough for at least two lunch portions. If you do that most evenings you’ll not have to think about cooking specific lunch meals very often.

BIWI · 23/06/2020 17:14

@Freetodowhatiwant

I am feeling a bit empty and weak again now and it will be a couple of hours before dinner.

This is really concerning. Please, please, remember that this WOE (way of eating) is NOT about deprivation.

You're clearly not eating enough if you're feeling so weak - and not enough protein or fat. I know you might hate cooking, but surely it's not too much to have 2 eggs instead of 1?!

You also need to add more veg, as you're really not eating enough of that.

Freetodowhatiwant · 23/06/2020 18:07

Ok thanks, will up the size of lunch and see how that goes. I have just made and eaten a big and very tasty bowl of cauliflower rice kedgeree (with a salmon fillet flake) and feel nicely full.

Virago1 · 23/06/2020 18:09

Thanks @BIWI. I take a Mg supplement so I'm going to skip that and see if it makes a difference. I also ate chicken and avocado last night, both of which have a lot of niacin so could have been that.

My carbs are OK I think, looking at the past two days I average 30-50g but if it happens again I'll try upping things.

LostaraYil · 23/06/2020 19:19

I finally managed a swim in the sea this afternoon, it was amazing. I'm making the most of the weather and heated some German sausages over the fire pit for dinner, along with FTGV. A glass of wine would make sitting by the fire perfect, but I know it's a slippery slope so I'm having a creamy decaf coffee instead. Btw 2 glasses of wine on Sunday left me with a monstrous headache on Monday, which is another reason not to drink (during the week).

Freetodowhatiwant · 23/06/2020 19:55

A sea swim sounds amazing Lostara. I would love one. I am soon going to be moving out of the big smoke and back to the coast and can’t wait.

I know this is probably obvious to a lot of people already as I’ve seen it suggested many times but never really had one at nine but...I am having a massive glass of sparkling water with ice and two big chunks of lime and it’s amazing!! Feels like having a g&t.

Ifeelfat · 23/06/2020 20:14

I was enthused by all this talk of sea swims. Cycled down this afternoon - choppy and frankly freezing. And that was just the beach.

Clearly you’re all mad, or I’m a soft southern jessy Grin

I'm retraining as an edpsych. It's been the dream for years, and I've worked like a demon to get here- so excited! It'll be online at least until Jan but I've done online before, including the research study, so am ok with it. Good luck with the dissertation- I found it a bit of a change to the more structured way we worked on the rest of the course- but it's very satisfying to get it submitted!
