Low Carb Bootcamp Léger! Notre quatre semaine est ici!

It's Monday! So soon! Wink

Morning all.

Ici, c'est le début de notre quatre semaine du Bootcamp. C'est léger est pas ordinaire.

... which means we can relax things slightly.

Some fruit is allowed in moderation - mainly berries. Nuts and seeds in moderation, and alcohol very much in moderation.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you need to, check the rules for Bootcamp Light on the tabs there.

If you're happy on 'ordinary' Bootcamp, then by all means continue. If you were finding intermittent fasting was helping you, then you could also consider trying to extend the length of time you've been fasting - so if you were managing 12:12, try working up to 16:8. If you were managing 16:8, see how much long you can extend that for. Just don't let it go so long that you get too hungry and are tempted to cheat.

Alternatively, you could do a hybrid, so strict Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

We only have two weeks left of this Bootcamp, so let's get/keep focused, and see what we can do!

Jealous of all this cake and scone action. I love scones and also Victoria sponge but I think I could quite happily just eat the cream and jam. I realise jam is forbidden fruit (see what I did there) so many strawberries and cream will hit the spot.

I’ve been really tired today. Not much sleep last night - Stayed up far too late then the kids up early - and then didn’t really eat much before 3pm. We were making use of newly opened things and got pizzas to sit in the park. I was hoping they would do a salad or something but they didn’t so I just had to eat the topping which wasn’t nearly enough at all!

So I’ve had:

1pm some soggy mozzarella
3.30 pm tuna mayo salad
6.30pm aubergine and melted cheddar with a big blob of Greek yoghurt and some taramasalata.

Well done on the 3kg @OneFootintheRave. I am hoping I am 3kg down by Monday but who knows. That’s the whole of boot camp not this week!

OneFootintheRave · 20/06/2020 19:21

@Freetodowhatiwant my 3KG loss is for the whole of boot camp too. So 750g a week or about 1.65 lbs. When I think back to that picture @BIWI posted on an earlier thread of a pound of lard we should be delighted. I wish I had screenshotted that pic now.

BrassicaBabe · 20/06/2020 19:29

Glad the scales are good Onefoot. 3kg is amazing!!

Rshard · 20/06/2020 19:37

Made Jamie Oliver lamb and aubergine curry tonight, switched the onions for shallots. Served with cauliflower rice and a dollop of yoghurt - was lush!

Puppermint · 20/06/2020 21:27

I'll confess that I've only had a cursory scan through the thread but wanted a whoop whoop for the new members of the Nine Stone Club!! Can't wait to join you don't save me a seat, it's a looong way off

So anyway, I'm a bit sloshed. BUT it is my birthday and food has been so on point it's untrue.

I have avoided:

Proper nice icecream
Crisps in their many forms
Actual cake

I have had (mostly cooked by my amazing DH who has looked after me today):
L: BLT on cloudy bread with MH mayo
D: HM burgers with bacon and cheese, salad with MH dressing, HM mayo
A fair old bit of fizz...

I have also made Diet Doctor low carb choc cake which we've had with clotted cream and a few berries - amazing for a special occasion.

So anyway, not perfect, and I'm sure I'll pay for the booze in the morning (And on the scales on Monday)but this is the first time in forever I've navigated a 'special occasion' with sticking to anything. So am pleased is the point of this post (@and also possibly a bit pissed) Grin Blush

Freetodowhatiwant · 20/06/2020 22:31

Hey Puppermint happy birthday!! That sounds like an amazing birthday meal. I’m very envious.

I am so fed up of my limited cooking I’ve spent the evening (a lot of it when lying with the clingy kids who still need me to lie with them to sleep) reading the most recent, before this, BC weeks 4 and 5 and writing down ideas in my phone of things to buy in a big shop.

It’s funny reading about life pre corona too as there’s a lot of travel and eating out. I miss travel and eating out so much but I guess at least we have more control over what we make at home. The only thing is being a not great cook is very limiting during lockdown where I’ve been making three meals a day for the kids and I. One child is gluten free too. Dh and I are separating after 20 years so it’s a weird lockdown together. He is a much better cook than me but doesn’t underhand this WOE. He tries but then tonight used the mixed fish I had bought for something creamy and added corn flour in it. so I gave it a miss and had something more low carb and then he got annoyed with me.

LostaraYil · 20/06/2020 22:45

Happy birthday, Puppermint! Sounds like you're having an amazing time, enjoy!
Freetodowhatiwant, I don't like cooking either, so just end up eating the same things. It gets a bit boring eventually so I need to start trying out more recipes. I would love to go out for some tapas or a steak...

Ifeelfat · 20/06/2020 22:46

Biwi
Wondering if you can define ‘moderation’ when it comes to alcohol please - I suspect it’s a moveable feast but hoping I’m wrong as it would be so much easier to have numbers to follow.
After 31 days AF I decided to have some nice wine tonight. 2 glasses, half a bottle. That will be it for the week. Will possibly have the same next week.
Is this ok do you think, or does it depend? It is literally my only vice, but I don’t want to jeopardise weight loss... I suppose I’ll have to wait and see.
It’s about one quarter of what I used to drink a week, but perhaps any amount will stall weight loss. I know it’s ‘allowed in moderation’ during bootcamp lite but I suppose only time will tell if it affects the scales.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 20/06/2020 22:49

@OneFootintheRave is this the one?

lurknolinger · 20/06/2020 23:13

Just wanted to update on the celeriac mash that I asked for the recipe for yesterday. It was great, can definitely recommend. Not sure why but the addition of leeks seems to make it lighter and fluffier, and more well, mash like. Will be doing that again.
Thanks for the cheesecake recipe @LostaraYil I've made that tonight and plan to have it tomorrow for Father's Day when everyone else will be eating cake.
Happy Birthday Puppermint and Thanksfor Motherofdragons and your dd.
Congrats to those in the nine club.

prettybird · 20/06/2020 23:32

Ifeelfat - you've answered your question for yourself Wink. It really depends on you: how your body reacts( what else you're having (as your body will use the alcohol for fuel first); and how quickly you want to achieve target.

For some of us, allowing ourselves to have a small amount of alcohol stops us face planting into vats of alcohol Grin

On a more serious note, the fact that this WoE seems to make us lightweight viz-à-viz alcohol over time naturally discourages us from drinking too much. Wink

venusandmars · 21/06/2020 06:02

Ifeelfat I think it also depends on whether drinking alcohol affects what you eat. Does it make you more likely to grab a handful of crisps or nuts? To crave biscuits and cheese after dinner, to be tempted by a bowl of ice cream? And the following morning do you feel the need for toast, or a coke or to eat breakfast when otherwise you might have fasted till lunch? That would all have an impact.

I have been lying awake since 3am. No idea why. All my usual tricks for getting back to sleep have failed: reading my book, relaxation exercises, examining the colours on the insides of my eyelids... And I feel HUNGRY. I know lack of sleep increases ghrelin and decreases leptin, but I kind of that the effect was long term poor sleep not just one wakeful night. But I'm lying here craving freshly squeezed orange juice, a bacon sandwich, a coffee and some toast and marmalade. And my tummy is rumbling.

I've got another day of yoga and meditation workshop I guess as soon as we lay on our mats and close our eyes for meditation I will be the one snoring loudly so I'm going to listen to my body (not my carb craving mind) and start the day with some scrambled egg and a little bit of crispy pancetta. Coffee with cream mid-morning, green vegetable soup for lunch and smoked salmon and avocado salad for dinner. Today does not feel like the day for I/F.

Ifeelfat · 21/06/2020 08:34

venusandmsrs god yes you’re so right about the snacking! Usually after a drink I’d crave chocolate and give in immediately - and it was really interesting last night as I was aware of how sweet the wine itself was (a strong red) and how that made me want more sugar afterwards. My palate is so much more sensitive after a month of very little sugar. Last night though I resisted, and went to bed instead!

Freetodowhatiwant · 21/06/2020 08:50

I am quite gutted about the alcohol, I definitely feel the lightweight thing the few tones I’ve had wine during this boot camp. I’m gutted as I do enjoy drinking! And don’t want to be drunk if, when once we get back out there, going out for dinner and sharing a bottle of wine.

Anyway, I’m chuffed this morning as the scales have stayed the same as yesterday- 63.5kg - which by my calculations is still just in the 9s. I was worried that might have just been a low blip. If they can STS tomorrow I would be happy.

Rshard · 21/06/2020 09:37

Happy birthday for yesterday puppermint, sounds as though you had a lovely day

Ragwort · 21/06/2020 10:23

Out of interest, how do people manage the 16:8 IF?

In an ideal world (ie; no family and no job Grin) I would have brunch at 11am and evening meal at 6pm. But that just doesn't work now that I am back at work. Just have black coffee & water before 2pm - I genuinely don't feel hungry or have any less energy (retail so I am on my feet all day plus 30 min walk to and from work).

We have our family meal at 7.30/8 ... I start work around 11ish and probably find it easiest to eat "lunch" around 2pm. Not ideal but I can't see any better way, I get in around 6pm and don't want to cook or eat straight away.

Just interested to know how others manage?

Ninkanink · 21/06/2020 10:28

I don’t strictly IF (because I have a creamy coffee every morning and a couple of cups of tea) but I’ve fallen into a good pattern for me where I eat my first meal of the day at around two. Any fasting window that works well for you is just fine.

NigellaAwesome · 21/06/2020 10:29

Ragwort I have a creamy coffee at about 10am, then lunch around 1pm. Dinner is generally between 6 and 7. I do a lot of meal prep on my days off so that dinner is generally just reheating things or adding a few veggies.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 21/06/2020 10:36

I’ve finally reached the 1 stone off mark!! Been stalled for 3 weeks (I started a week before boot camp) and thought this day would never come Grin. Feeling very chuffed with myself.

Not so chuffed with Tesco though - ordered 2 Caulis for my rice/cauliflower cheese/pizza crust etc. This is what I got!

Luckily I also got 2 huge Celeriacs. I once had celeriac mash with toasted pine nuts on top and it was Delish so that’s how i always make it now.

bibliomania · 21/06/2020 10:39

I'm wfh for now, so I do 16:8 early - breakfast from 8pm and my main meal around 2 or 3pm, with something in between if I fancy it. I don't feel hungry in the evenings and traditionally it's been the time of day I eat and drink the wrong stuff, as a post-work reward and a response to boredom. Going back to 9-5 in the office will make it harder, as the evening is my only time for cooking. I don't know what will happen then, but I might as well make the most of it for now.

devoncreamtea · 21/06/2020 10:43

I find it hard to skip breakfast as I wake up hungry - but I do skip lunch most days - and actually always have as I just find it an annoying meal!
I eat early mostly with kids - about 6 and so get 12 - 14 hr fast in depending on whether it’s a work day.
Scales still being annoying but I’m sure I’m thinner!!!! I briefly glimpsed a collar bone the other day - looking forward to being reunited with them...!
B scrambled egg, avo, salami, olives
L ?
D I’ve got out pork steaks but am regretting it! Fancy a spicy sausage on the bbq with salad now...

Ninkanink · 21/06/2020 10:43

Should have been clearer - I’ve done this for several years now, including when woh. I’m never hungry before two.

Freetodowhatiwant · 21/06/2020 11:09

I did IF fasting much of last year, worked like a dream at first and got down to 60kg in the summer (currently 63 having risen to 66 in the beginning of lockdown). I’m doing it now with the LCHF and it’s ok most days. I usually fast from 7pm until 11am but have been pushing the morning break of the fast to a bit later so it’s lunch time and not a late breakfast. I sometimes feel a bit empty, not really hungry, so will have a cup of tea with milk by 11. Today I felt empty when making the kids breakfast at 9ish so randomly I had a small spoon of butter (!). It actually did the trick. You do get used to 16:8. I do worry it becomes less effective after a while though.

prettybird · 21/06/2020 11:11

We often eat late (around 9) but I'm happy not eating until closer to 2pm, even though I exercise in the mornings. I don't feel the need for breakfast any more.

venusandmars · 21/06/2020 11:35

freetodowhatiwant I was wondering the same thing. I used the time very early this morning to listen to some podcasts about intermittent fasting. Jason Fung showed data which compared the change in metabolism with I/F, standard low calorie & high exercise, and bariatric surgery. He showed that with the calories in - calories out approach after 6 months metabolism was much lower, so the calorie restriction became ineffective. Not so with I/F or even bariatric surgery because the low calorie approach didn't control insulin and therefore was less able to utilise fat for energy, and essentially kept filling and depleting glycogen stores on fewer and fewer calories.

He was also talking about alternate day fasting (500 calories on the fasting day) and after this bootcamp I was thinking of giving that a go. Alongside lchf and all the normal bootcamp rules about water etc. I think that ringing the changes sometimes feels good for me.
