Low Carb Bootcamp Léger! Notre quatre semaine est ici!

BIWI · 15/06/2020 07:33

It's Monday! So soon! Wink

Morning all.

Ici, c'est le début de notre quatre semaine du Bootcamp. C'est léger est pas ordinaire.

... which means we can relax things slightly.

Some fruit is allowed in moderation - mainly berries. Nuts and seeds in moderation, and alcohol very much in moderation.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you need to, check the rules for Bootcamp Light on the tabs there.

If you're happy on 'ordinary' Bootcamp, then by all means continue. If you were finding intermittent fasting was helping you, then you could also consider trying to extend the length of time you've been fasting - so if you were managing 12:12, try working up to 16:8. If you were managing 16:8, see how much long you can extend that for. Just don't let it go so long that you get too hungry and are tempted to cheat.

Alternatively, you could do a hybrid, so strict Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

We only have two weeks left of this Bootcamp, so let's get/keep focused, and see what we can do!

*vary!

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/06/2020 14:33

I have some vodka-soaked blackberries in the freezer so I might try a combo blackberry mojito tomorrow night.

Because of the missed water yesterday I ate too much. All on plan but very much not hunger. A combination of thirst and tiredness. Gained a pound but I'm still in ketosis I do use the sticks but I know it's not something to obsess about. I find they register ketones in the morning best.

Freetodowhatiwant · 19/06/2020 14:41

Interesting about the sticks, I’ve never used them. I did enjoy ovulation and conception POAS back in my TTC/having miscarriages days.

Are there any substitute meat products that are low carb? I’ve been avoiding them as I felt that they’re probably not great, being processed and all, but I’m getting a bit sick of eggs and I’m not a huge fish eater by choice (non meat eater though).

prettybird · 19/06/2020 15:00

Iirc, tofu is ok as a meat substitute but quorn (which is highly processed) is not recommended.

Caveat: I am not a vegetarian!

lurknolinger · 19/06/2020 15:12

I'm trying to find BIWIs recipe for the celeriac mash for the top of a shepherds pie, it's the one with leeks and celeriac in it.
I've checked the recipe thread and that recipe uses just celeriac on its own, and I fancied trying BIWIs new approved version of the mash that she came up with.

I saw it one one of these threads but can't find it anywhere, does anyone have it to hand please?

ShagMeRiggins · 19/06/2020 15:18

free what would you normally be eating if not on this WOE? Is it protein you’re looking for, or just some texture, or...?

Also, I’m quite tickled that you “enjoyed” POAS. Grin

Puppermint · 19/06/2020 15:19

@lurknolinger it was on the recipe ideas spreadsheet in the prep thread for this bootcamp (in one of BIWI's posts on page 2 I think - I've made it several times and keep having to go back to it).

Ninkanink · 19/06/2020 15:26

Here’s a bootcamp friendly recipe that also uses celeriac, just in case anyone else is looking for inspiration!

celeriac, chorizo and taleggio hash

One celeriac (medium to large) 2-3 leeks, depending on size

Peel and chop celeriac, and boil in salted water until tender - about 20 minutes, depending on the size of the chunks

Wash and slice the leeks, and when the celeriac is cooked, add them to the same pan. Cook for another couple of minutes, until the leeks are soft.

Drain in a colander/sieve, and leave to dry - leeks retain a lot of water, so it's important not to skip this step.

Put them back in the pan, with a large knob of butter and then mash - ideally with a stick blender - to the consistency of your choice. Season to taste with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.

@Ninkanink that recipe sounds really good - will have to try that one.

Ninkanink · 19/06/2020 15:46

I know! I really want to try it but frustratingly haven’t been able to as we’re only doing a shopping delivery once every 4 weeks, and last month I could get celeriac but no taleggio and this month I could get taleggio but no celeriac! Angry Angry

Freetodowhatiwant · 19/06/2020 15:53

I think I’m just looking for an alternative protein, so I could do chilli non carne or something. Sausages or burgers. I’m not a huge fan of them usual either but just a bit bored of the only protein being fish and eggs. I can manage without. Tofu is never very inspiring to me. I need to do a big shop anyway so will stock up on more interesting veg and fish.

lurknolinger · 19/06/2020 16:02

Thanks Puppermint and BIWI. I thought there might be some other ingredients that I'd forgotten, but it looks like it's just celeriac leeks and butter 👍 the celeriac and chorizo hash recipe looks lovely too.

LostaraYil · 19/06/2020 16:43

I know were trying to avoid sweet things, but we're having a mini party for DS who is leaving home tomorrow Sad to go to another country, so I made a baked lemon cheesecake from the Rose Elliott low carb book. It also works as a gluten free option for FIL. I can't wait to try some, and really need some comfort food as well!

Puppermint · 19/06/2020 16:45

Sorry I know I seem to be posting tonnes of crap on the thread today but wanted to mention an NSV.

Today for the first time in a very long time I have voluntarily worn a pair of jeans without being in agony or having to take them off after about half an hour and change into leggings. Granted they are my fat jeans but they are comfy and it's been quite a while since I've been able to say that!

ShagMeRiggins · 19/06/2020 17:13

That’s a great NSV, Puppermint, I’ve felt the same about my “good” bras in the past, and where on earth did you get the idea you’re posting tonnes of crap?! Grin

Takingontheworld · 19/06/2020 17:19

I've caved. Like not badly. There was no icecream or pizza but i ate 3/4s of a 90% lindt bar, half a tub of mascarpone and a handful of almonds.

Gonna have salmon and greens for tea and i imagine in still at an ok carb count really but just needed to share that I am shit today.

I wont be buying anymore dark choc and mascarpone. It started out as a small treat and escalated too fast. Clearly I'm not to be trusted yet.

Rshard · 19/06/2020 17:33

Well done brassica, you’re doing so well!

And nigella closing in on a stone, so impressive.

Freetodowhatiwant · 19/06/2020 17:39

That cheese cake sounds amazing @LostaraYil. You must be struggling though with your DS moving abroad! Hope the cheese cake helps. I need gluten free things for my DS age 7 so perhaps you could pass on the recipe?

@Takingontheworld these things happen. Try not to beat yourself up about it. And yeah it's definitely better to just not have it in the house. I am leaving the treats for my kids for when we are out and about rather than having them at home.

Well done on the jeans @Puppermint!

I thought about NSV today and I am not sure I really have any clothes that I can't squeeze in here so I went to try a few on. A size ten I bought at the beginning of lockdown which was a bit snug is definitely a bit less snug on me now so that's something. I keep trying on a bikini to see if I improve my feelings about myself in it. I weirdly have always had a slug of fat around the love handle area, it only goes if I am really really skinny - when people tell me I am too thin. I have thought about something like Aqualix for it but am not that brave and don't have the money.

Freetodowhatiwant · 19/06/2020 17:44

Oh and who said that fat can feel a bit flabbier and loose just before it starts to disappear...? I am definitely feeling a bit flabby around the tubby. Attractive.

kakiqueen · 19/06/2020 20:04

Hello All,

Just to let you know that I am bowing out, as I am finding this experience a bit taxing on my mental health.
It's bringing up issues I have previously had with disordered eating and I just can't go there again.

I won't go crazy and suddenly eat loads of cake, but I have realised that this way of eating is not for me and I don't lose weight like this.
3 weeks in and I am actually heavier than before and I am obsessed with food, in a very unhealthy way.

Good luck to all of you for whom this way of eating works and thank you all for the support over the last few weeks.

Especially you @BIWI, you have gone so far to support me, but I just can't do it.

Good luck y'all.
Xx

Puppermint · 19/06/2020 20:05

Haha @ShagMeRiggins, feel like I have been on here A LOT today work avoidance much .

On the subject of bras, I will be demanding a gold star when I manage a full day in an underwired jobby. Currently sports bras are the item of choice for me.

BIWI · 19/06/2020 20:07

I'm sorry to hear that @kakiqueen - but I'm glad. I would hate for this to cause you more problems.

Good luck, and hope things get better for you. Flowers

Bad timing cross post @kakiqueen - sad to see you go but can totally understand your reasoning Flowers

ShagMeRiggins · 19/06/2020 20:10

Nigella is this near stone just from this Bootcamp? I’m not worthy, great job!

Brassica your alcohol journey inspires me. I’m thinking seriously—really seriously—if same come Sunday or Monday. I’ve been looking at photos of “one year after alcohol” online, and maybe some are after only one month, but the difference is astonishing. Not only would it improve health and emotions, but—dang!—I’d look so much better! #shallow

I wont be buying anymore dark choc and mascarpone. It started out as a small treat and escalated too fast. Clearly I'm not to be trusted yet.

Takingon it’s good you see that. You eill get to a stage where one square of dark chocolate is enough. I absolutely believe it.

This is a process, it’s a way of eating that is unforgiving but also inclusive. When we get to goal weight, maintenance sets in, and I believe that’s a different but similar track. We all need to sort it out for ourselves, but as long as we KOKO in a mindful way, it works.
