Welcome to week 5 of the Low Carb Bootcamp; we're nearly halfway through! If you've had a pause in your weight loss during week 3 or week 4, the scales should hopefully be moving again now and you can expect an average weight loss of half a pound to 2 lb each week. Nobody ever gets consistent weight loss from week to week so try not to get hung up on each week's weigh-in, it's the overall trend that we want to look at. If you're a daily weigher then try an app such as Happy Scales or True Weight that uses a rolling daily average to give you a more accurate record of your weight loss.

Add today's weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. And here's to another great week...

DH and I don't normally make a fuss of valentines but we've barely seen each other this week due to work, poorly DC etc etc So I bought the m and s dine in deal. Was very selective and just about managed to keep it low carb.

King prawns in garlic butter
Sirloin steak with truffled cauliflower cheese (and extra asparagus)
Strawberries which I'm going to dip in dark choc and serve with cream.
Nice bottle of Bordeaux to wash it all down.

Apart from that, My other food today has been yoghurt with three pecans and some leftover chicken with forkful of coleslaw.

Couple of tricky meals to navigate this weekend including birthday lunch at BIL's and children's birthday parties. Will try to fill up on egg breakfasts beforehand so I'm not tempted to overdo it.

Amazing meal last night and very BC; I know I'm wanging on this week but it's like something has just clicked and I've had a mindset change grown some willpower and worked out how to KOKO properly to reach target and maintain well! Saying that I did eat a particularly luscious dried fig at work (basically a ball of sugar) but it was worth it; I've turned down all the crap chocolate biscuits.
The key to last night's success was I had my pate starter on celery instead of bread Halo
The Chateaubriand was amazing, and I made a sauce of red wine, stock, tarragon and butter which was perfect. Served with celeriac chips in dripping and sautéed kale.
Dessert was a slightly larger than necessary chocolate pot (served 2):
100g 85% chocolate, melted
50ml just boiled water
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
About 100ml double cream.
Add the water and vanilla slowly to the chocolate, mixing well, then stir in the cream. Set in the fridge.
Daily weigher. Managed to STS as yesterdayafter an enormous poo and currently just 2 and a half lbs from target.

Rayna37 · 15/02/2020 07:16

Also I just had one 125ml glass of red! We're out for dinner tonight though so will drink more then.

Exitstrategist · 15/02/2020 07:16

Fell off wagon headfirst into pitta bread and baklava last night. Feel so full and sick still.

BrassicaBabe · 15/02/2020 07:36

Oh the bitter sweet moment of seeing a lb loss but knowing it's dehydration from the wine and champers drunk Hmm I won't believe it until I see it on about Monday.

PinkSubscriber · 15/02/2020 07:39

I’ve had a whoosh 🎶🎶 I’ve had a whoosh.

After 2 really hard weeks of feeling ravenous due to period being late feeling starving etc. I KOKO and my period arrived a couple of days ago and I’ve been rewarded with 122.2 lbs this morning. That’s almost a 3 lbs loss from a day or 2 ago.

I bought a pair of trousers last week which although they fitted were a little snug shall we say. Can’t wait to get them on this morning.

Almahart · 15/02/2020 07:56

@TheClitterati that is really interesting. Women’s health really isn’t taken that seriously is it. I can completely relate to what you say having suffered from depression most of my adult life. Wierdly, though my circumstances could be expected to make me depressed, at the moment I’m feeling pretty much ok without medication. I think swimming and eating well are really helping. NB for the avoidance of doubt I am very pro medication when it’s needed

I’ve got a BC question - has anyone managed to make their celeriac chips crunchy? Mine are always soggy Sad

BrassicaBabe · 15/02/2020 08:03

alma is the choice not soggy or burnt? Grin

Almahart · 15/02/2020 08:18

Well yes it does seem to be so!

BIWI · 15/02/2020 08:52

I don't think celeriac chips will ever go crispy - it's something to do with lacking the starch that potatoes have. However, as long as you don't get to burnt Grin they are still very tasty - especially when seasoned with crystals/flakes of sea salt and chilli flakes! (You could also try roasting them in beef dripping for extra flavour?)

VeraPamil · 15/02/2020 09:08

I’m a daily weigher, I’ve put on 5lbs since yesterday. I know this is not true weight but even so 5lbs!!! Suspect it’s all the steroids I’m on just now, it’s just so frustrating.

BIWI · 15/02/2020 09:23

Well it can't be that much fat overnight! More likely to be water retention. Are you drinking enough water? I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but water retention means you need to drink more!

VeraPamil · 15/02/2020 09:34

I am drinking plenty water. A bit worried it’s a sign of further rejection of my kidney. Maybe my new medication isn’t working. It was quite a shock to see a 5lb gain overnight. It’s probably transplant connected and not bootcamp connected.

I don’t know it’s just frustrating when I have so much to lose to see a gain like that!

Maybe will go and moan to the Dr instead of a bootcamp thread, might be more appropriate! Grin

Notwatchingtvtoday · 15/02/2020 09:45

Morning all, I’ve had a really busy week, so have been reading but not posting. I am 2lbs down since Monday, so hoping that stays off. Went out for lunch yesterday to a “Bills’ i thought I was doing really well and ordered their naked Lamb mint burger, should have had a steak or their normal burger as it was a really processed lump, I hope it did not have loads of carbs mixed in.

I think this woe is very good for my mental health as well. I suspect it is the structure and that you don’t have the dips that you get with carbs and especially sugars.

Hope you all stay safe in storm Dennis.

CheddarGorgeous · 15/02/2020 10:45

I am feeling bluergh today. I know I'm a bit worn out from normal work and life stresses. We have hit some financial problems (not real "can we pay the electricity bill" problems but just worry over future financial security). It was a tricky week at work. DH has a health condition that causes constant low level unhappiness etc. etc.

I had a exercise class early this morning and came back with a lack of appetite for anything low carb. I had a boiled egg with mayonnaise but followed it up with (trigger warning) half a pain au chocolat, half a piece of toast with honey and now three dark chocolate Lindt balls. I'm in bed feeling sorry for myself and wondering why I can't stay on the WoE train permanently.

And my problems are not even big. I'm in awe at some of you amazing women showing such positivity and KOKO while dealing with actual difficulties, not my general life wrinkles. I'm concerned maybe that my iron levels have dropped again (I was severely anaemic last year) but my next blood test isn't until 10 March and I don't want to take supplements before then because I want to see what's happening in my body without them.

Sorry for the long whining post.

TheClitterati · 15/02/2020 11:22

My train was cancelled leaving me stuck in London. So I unexpectedly ended up at a friends impromptu dinner party. Held it together Re the food, but drank booze for 2nd time this year. I'm now suffering - but lots of fun last night 😁😁

If this WOE is going to work I'm going to have to cope with the odd night on the lash. Food rules mostly followed though. I ignored the mac cheese, rice & peas, plantain crisps etc & had chicken curry, aubergine & salad. Followed by 🧀

moleeye · 15/02/2020 12:54

Mmmmmmm @TheClitterati all my fav food!!!

I made jerk chicken and ackee and saltfish last night and we had it with coleslaw and a mountain of leaves.

Enough leftovers for today and maybe tomorrow depending on how greedy the OH is!

Tenementfunster · 15/02/2020 13:17

Hi all
Quite fancy a Chinese tonight... any tips on what to order that’s low carb?

StuntNun · 15/02/2020 15:07

Tenement I go for ribs with no sauce for a starter and something in black bean sauce for a main as it's one of the least worst sauces. You can often get stir fried veggies such as bean sprouts for a side.

I'm wishing the day away today as I've made chocolate mousse for tonight's dessert. There's no sugar in it, just chocolate, butter and eggs, so I'm going to serve it with some raspberries and I've loaded the cream whipper with double cream for squooshy cream.

Hope you're okay Vera Thanks

I survived valentines meal out and had a fab time Grin

For starters I had brisket burnt ends, they same with bbq sauce but it was tart rather than sweet so hopefully not too bad for a special occasion.

For main I had a black and blue burger (black pudding and blue cheese) and asked for it without chips or bun and with salad, I didn’t eat the onion rings that came with it Halo

Had a glass of champers and a gin and slimline tonic, so I was actually pretty well behaved overall!

So all week I’ve been absolutely obsessed with the idea of making popped cheese, after seeing the price of Cheesies Popped Cheese on amazon (it’s extortionate!)

So, I’ve found out if you dry cheese out then put it in the oven on a high heat, it pops like popcorn and now I’m obviously fascinated.

I bought 3 types of cheese (medium cheddar, Red Leicester, double Gloucester) and I’ve bunged it in the dehydrator on the lowest heat I can to set it, plan to shove it in the oven tomorrow morning and see what happens Grin

If this works, it’s going to fully blow my mind.
