Welcome to week 5 of the Low Carb Bootcamp; we're nearly halfway through! If you've had a pause in your weight loss during week 3 or week 4, the scales should hopefully be moving again now and you can expect an average weight loss of half a pound to 2 lb each week. Nobody ever gets consistent weight loss from week to week so try not to get hung up on each week's weigh-in, it's the overall trend that we want to look at. If you're a daily weigher then try an app such as Happy Scales or True Weight that uses a rolling daily average to give you a more accurate record of your weight loss.

Add today's weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. And here's to another great week...
Onwards and downwards!

The German one is about 3.8 carbs a slice I think

KondoKonvert · 10/02/2020 09:08

Feeling really good with a 4lb loss this week.

I started low carbing in early September and I'm now 2lb shy of having lost 3st! Feel hugely better within myself!

CheddarGorgeous · 10/02/2020 09:09

I am slightly up from (0.5lb) my mid week weigh but down on last Monday. Most importantly I can pinpoint the behaviours that are holding me back, mostly at the weekends. Not enough water, difficulty eating on plan in social situations and too much snacking on nuts.

I've meal planned the week and done all the shopping / prepping so I'm feeling committed to week 5.

My day:

B - 2 scrambled eggs, mushrooms
L - Tuna mayonnaise salad
D - Roast chicken with FLGV

@Teapotdespot amazing chart. Well done and thanks for sharing.

bibliomania · 10/02/2020 09:13

2lb up, but unwise choices were made at more than one point during the week. On the bright side, the blips don't feel like reasons to throw the whole thing in. There are enough enjoyably things about this WoE that I do genuinely want to do it - I'm not gritting my teeth and suffering through it.

truelove · 10/02/2020 09:39

1lb off this week. Very happy with that. I’ve been doing 20:4 or 19:5 for 10 days now but have introduced a few more carbs in the form of a couple of apples and a veggie chilli with pulses in. I was getting very bored of eggs and cheese (I’m veggie). 4lbs to get to target.......

Summery1 · 10/02/2020 09:45

Angryjust lost a post Angry

Anyway STS. Which is a 2lb loss overall after a 2.8 loss and a .8 gain!
I've had good days and bad, good meals and bad. Last week was a big week emotionally, with sleep loss as a result. Anyway, I haven't quit, so that's good. Your posts are inspiring me to get back on the wagon, so thanks to all.
I'll shop soon and definitely low carb.

moleeye · 10/02/2020 09:49

3.4lb loss for me this week which after last weeks 2lb gain (fully deserved) I'm really chuffed about. Taking me to 11.8lb off so far this BC.

Went out on Thursday night with friends, first time since having the baby (he's still on the boob at night). Stuck to LC food but did have more than my fair share of wine. However I had 3L of sparkling water whilst out so I think that helped!

And then even though I was hungover on Friday I didn't face plant into a plate of carbs or sugar. 💪🏼

Had a slight wobble yest where I really wanted to eat a Bounty, but I steered clear knowing today was weigh day and had a fruit tea instead.

I've meal planned for the whole week and I'm feeling pumped. I've also got an aqua aerobics and a boxing HIIT class booked.

Although we have been eating far too much clotted cream, full fat yogurt and strawberries in the eve. I've knocked that on the head as I haven't put it on the food shop. But my oh my it's delicious!!

10.5lb to pre preg weigh and 18lb to target!

KOKO!!

ShagMeRiggins · 10/02/2020 10:06

Down another 1lb to 180 and really want to get in the 170s, but I just realised that last week I dropped into the 12 stone range without noticing, so that’s kind of nice. It’s been a very longwhile.

I was consistent with my water last week. That is, I consistently drank about half a litre less than I’m meant to. So that’s my main focus this week.

Might try the waterlogged app that was recommended but feel it’s something I should just be doing as I used to be so great at it, it was effortless.

Have a great week y’all.

RobinHobb · 10/02/2020 10:11

What is opinion on sugar free jelly please? I had a massive craving - totm - and made some but haven't eaten it yet. Surely must be carb free although appreciate rammed full of sweetners?

Rayna37 · 10/02/2020 10:23

1.8lbs off this week to reach 124.4lbs which means 4.8lbs overall and 4.4lbs to target! Really would like to get there by the end of week 10 but that will require proper focus.

However, I'm beginning to see some real behavioural change such as not eating for the sake of it and experimenting with IF. I usually have a mid morning snack at work of approx 30g nuts (or cheese in the first two weeks) but aiming to drop this as it's really only for boredom, I don't actually need it.

Great to see all the meal planning for the week, it's beneficial in so many ways. I have a nice clear week lined up, then LCHF Valentine's meal planned for Friday and we are out for dinner on Saturday night.

BrassicaBabe · 10/02/2020 10:31

Plan for today is now
L: hm coleslaw and 3 chicken sausages
D: slightly warm hm coleslaw and 3 chicken sausages in hotel room having flown dinner out with me
S: no additive pork scratchings
No wine!
Regulated amount of water so that I'm not caught short while travelling Blush

AthelstaneTheUnready · 10/02/2020 10:35

Having stayed exactly the same every.single.day for the last 3 weeks, I have put 4lbs ON overnight.

Given I have not eaten 4lbs worth of food in the last few days due to bug (chicken soup yesterday, some ham&olives Saturday, nothing Friday) this is annoying.

I can only conclude that 4lbs is pretty much exactly the communal weight of all the germs multiplying and making merry hell in my body. At least 2lbs worth swelling up my face I should think.

Bah.

Summery1 · 10/02/2020 11:06

@Athelstan I'm sorry to laugh. Happy with my STS now.

ShagMeRiggins · 10/02/2020 11:10

Athelsyane you know it’s not 4lbs overnight. It’s not a 4lb gain at all. It’s a weekly fluctuation. It was just a bad day to weigh.

If you haven’t been eating, have you had the energy to drink all the water? Not cups of tea, but water? That could be why.

I’m so sorry you have multiplying germs. Flowers

Here’s a slight diversion— when I saw Brassica’s menu of hm coleslaw and 3 chicken sausages it reminded me that every time I see someone type “hm” I think “Her Majesty.”

So, Her Majesty’s coleslaw, Her Majesty’s mayonnaise, Her Majesty’s soup...

sheepysheep · 10/02/2020 11:11

FFS 2lb on. Bit too much chocolate and nuts I suspect but I’ve done three days with no breakfast (IF) so I thought it’d be ok. Cant even blame period as that was last week.

I’ve been eating LCHF for four years now. A stone crept on in the last six months (mainly carb creep With a few too many treat meals rather than falling off the wagon) But I can’t seem to lose it again now. Surely this WoE will still work? I’ve read a few scary things about long term effects of LCHF and how it can damage your metabolism (but equally I’ve read plenty that says it doesn’t so 🤷‍♀️). I would like to get to 10 stones so that’s a 10lb loss. I’ve given up long distance running so I’m not longer running 20 miles a week (but I’m cycling). Is it the lack of exercise?

BIWI · 10/02/2020 11:33

@RobinHobb - it will contain artificial sweeteners, which are a bit of a no on Bootcamp. They're OK occasionally - but also, remember that what we're trying to do on Bootcamp is to break the hold that sugar has over us, and to retrain our taste buds.

If you can, best avoided!

BIWI · 10/02/2020 11:35

@sheepysheep

Yes, this WOE will continue to work - but only if you stick to it! With 10lbs to lose, you're not far off your target, and progress will slow down.

Exercise is much less important than diet, so focus on keeping the high carb snacks to a minimum.

IF will help, but it's always going to be a long term thing. As we always say, this is a marathon not a sprint.

Also - you could just be seeing a daily fluctuation?

CheddarGorgeous · 10/02/2020 11:40

What is the average/maximum length of time it takes to retrain taste buds? I've never found anything "too sweet/sickly" ever Grin and when I give up sugar I never seem to lose the craving for it (I just get better at resisting the craving).

The psychology behind behaviour change says that you shouldn't tell yourself negative things about yourself. But how to you describe "sugar addict" in a positive way??

TheClitterati · 10/02/2020 11:47

yay another loss!! Which after 2 weeks of "gain" is welcome.
Scales say 7lb off but I don't really believe them.
My scales seem to be a bit dodgy - even though I do know my weight has always fluctured wildly.

What matters is I'm sticking to the plan, and nearly 11lb off since the beginning, which is great. I don't really have ££ to buy new scales ATM, but have moved them downstairs to the solid concrete floor and hopefully they will behave a bit better now.

For those who have been doing this for longer than us newbies, thanks so much for sharing your stories - its so encouraging!!

Im IF too - here's todays meal plan:
B black coffee
L cold chicken, mayo salad.
D I need to make a soup with all the bone broth I made and a cauliflower.

Here is Tom Kerridges cheese omlette in a bag - great for those on the road. Apparently you can make it in a kettle too:

TheClitterati · 10/02/2020 12:05

@BrassicaBabe head to your nearest traditional German inn (they are everywhere) and have a classic pork shank (crackling skin, slow cooked tender meat) and sauerkraut!!! Hold the spuds.

prettybird · 10/02/2020 12:41

Down 1.25lb to 11st 4.25lb Smile That's 11lb since I started (this is Week 6 for me) - and 2lb below where I'd got to before Christmas Smile

If I can continue at an average of 1lb a week, I'll smash I should reach my target of getting below 10st 7lb by mid May, when we're due to go on a family holiday to Australia Smile - and just as importantly, well into a healthy BMI (I'm 5' 5.5")

Well done to all the losers - and KOKO whether or not you lost anything experienced a fluctuation Grin And drink your water!

ShagMeRiggins · 10/02/2020 12:49

Cheddar how long have you been trying to retrain your tastebuds re sugar? In my experience it’s a gradual process and then suddenly one dives into a Cadbury’s and thinks “ooh, that bite was quite enough, thanks.”

The idea isn’t no sugar ever for the rest of our lives—I’ll still have a crème brûlée or two over summer holidays in France because it’s a dessert I enjoy.

But generally I don’t enjoy sugar.

DiscontentedWoman · 10/02/2020 12:59

I had mashed swede yesterday and couldn't finish it - tasted far too sweet! So my tastes are definitely altering

prettybird · 10/02/2020 13:13

I no longer feel the need to have sugar on strawberries or raspberries. The double cream I pour on them is quite enough!

I also still enjoy creme eggs, caramel eggs and mini eggs when I'm skiing Blush (Fortunately, we're not going skiing this year Wink)

Key thing for me is that I no longer feel the need to eat all those sweets or chocolates Smile. I can walk into a petrol station to pay and not even glance at the shelves of sweets put there to tempt you - whereas previously I'd have bought a bar or three Blush and devoured eaten them straight away ShockBlush

Rayna37 · 10/02/2020 13:31

Another one who can happily still eat sweet desserts adn other things and enjoy them despite years of low carb. However, I do notice sweetness more than before, especially in "savoury" things such as carrots. I do find though that I do not particularly enjoy chocolate such as Cadburys, Nestle etc now but I suspect that's more to do with all of the reformulating to reduce sugar and the weird aftertaste from all the artificial sweeteners artificial everything they contain.
